What a weird decision that they made Catherine the main character in this season. They could've picked neko zombie, Death, Judgement boy or hell even Gregory's mom. But no...they picked the blood sucking lizard.
The Bloody Karte is such a big step down from the earlier series. Catherine was great when she was a total sadist, but here she's just a generic "lovelorn girl who does violent stuff" like in a billion other anime shows. What a disappointing note for GHS to end on. There's a lot of cornball humor in TBK too. I wish they'd just stuck with the dark & creepy tone that made the earlier series unique.
Honestly, it's kinda hard to judge the series, regarding the jumps it made. The first one was the best one. The idea was generic (family man wanting to go home to his family, while on the same time escape this routine) and the first-person perspective a HELL but somehow the show still managed to pull off a good escape story. The second one had a better protagonist, but a very dull story that caused a lot of cultural misunderstandings. Like, a woman is heartbroken & in a midlife crisis after she went for her career and turning down her bf's proposal (which -in Japan - means she'd become a housewife), which causes them to split and him marry her best friend. Throughout the whole season the woman doesn't get morally judged like the guy, but rather guilt tripped about deciding to go for her career, however at least she interacted with her environment and showed how different the guests reacted towards her. Still, the worst thing was when they completely threw away her concept after she "joined" Gregory's family as a mouse. If I'd remake the series, I would maybe introduce her as Gregory's "daughter" or "wife" (cause she has this vision of marrying him) in S1 and than reveal her backstory, basically in S2. The last train...well...it did have it's moments. And finally a good steady third perspective. Like, S1&S2 were extremly confusing, because they randomly changed from 1st to 3rd perspective without notice, so you sometimes don't know wtf happens. The bloody Karte is more of a side-scroll exploration. And honestly; I like that developement of Catherine. Sure, Catherine was a creepy antagonist with her desire to take blood tests, but as a firm character it's good developement to show that she's not a 2D enemy. It makes her even more tragic: technically she's nice (more or less -she's working with Gregory), but she's disturbed by her paraphilic desire. She ruins every relationship with it and normally hates her desire, so when it's somebody she doesn't care about she's going beserk to fullfill it. Imagine her like a starved dog. Normally she can't really eat to her heart's content, but when it's a Guest you know she won't hold back. In general however, I'd remaster the whole series from Season 1. The show needs an update in graphics (not directly models), a good third perspective, longer episodes that can ensure a deeper story exploration & more time with certain characters.
@@katziliaf I would honestly love a remake of the series. Similar themes and familiar moments (albeit with a twist), but with more of an overarching story, with just a touch of mystery and revelations. The manga also has some neat ideas to take inspiration from as well.
Happy 2 years of making this comment! I agree, this season is just… fetish stuff. They obviously only made it because Katherine sounds sexual. It’s pointless. There’s no integrity. At least it’s short.
I didn't even know there was a Gregory Horror Show volume 4, how in the hell did I miss this.
Just rediscovered this and I'm so glad this is real and not just a weird af fever dream i had as a kid

They picked the sus lizard.
People liked the horny lizard so they made this
She's so popular that she has her own series?
