Run 8 is a railroad simulator, a sandbox to do whatever you wish. It features superb physics, deep system simulation, dispatching, working hump yards, and more. To learn more about Run 8 see their website www.run8studios...
Run 8 v3 includes both the UP and BNSF Mojave Subs (220 miles combined), BNSF Barstow yard, UP Yermo yard, and the BNSF Needles Sub (168 miles). All of these routes have been merged and updated with additional track and new scenery. That's a world over 400 miles long (with yards) which includes two freight crew districts and a long pool district!
The UP/BNSF Mojave Sub routes combined are roughly 220 miles long and includes the world famous "Tehachapi Pass Loop". Ruling grades over the pass roughly range between 2.4 and 2.8 percent. The steep mountainous grades, and countless mountain curves over the Tehachapi Mountain range and the high speed running across the Mojave desert into Barstow present quite a challenge to man and machine, and the route is still considered to be one of the most challenging for railroad crews in North America.
The Southern Pacific railroad originally built the line over the Tehachapi Mountains back in the late 1800s in order to gain access into Los Angeles and the greater southern California area. The mainline makes a climb of nearly 4,000 feet in elevation between Bakersfield which is at 600 feet, and Summit Switch located east of the small town of Tehachapi which is at 4,600 feet. The line then descends down the eastern side of the Tehachapi Mountain range, and into the small high desert community of Mojave.

Dynamic brake is your first set of brakes you use before you ever touch the automatic! First service is about 7 pounds minimum and then 10 pounds should hold it it!

You also don’t physically check the brake shoes in real life you look at brake piston! If it’s out brake applied!

I don't know if they still do it, but there used to be a rock train that they ran from this line back and forth to an aggregate company in the valley in L.A. each day. They would put one unit on each end and just reverse at each end. If you look up 'Tehachapi Live Train Cams' on YT, they have movable cams at Cable, the loop, Tehachapi and Mojave.

still learning from your videos but i just got to try and understand dynamnic brake usage a bit more

Check out The Depot channel for some good tutorials. www.youtube.com/@TheDepotServer/videos I think the video about bringing a heavy train down the mountain has some info about dynamic brakes

Does this game simulate the differences between AC and DC traction locomotives?
We use BNSF run-through power on our lines. Depending on the combinations, AC/DC or AC or DC or the dreaded C4, dictates how we start/stop. AC power (C-C, not the B+1-1+B or A-1-A - A-1-A) is something else, great adhesion and pull/stop like a dream.

I don't know enough about the prototype to say but I do know the different locos will load up on amps differently

@@KerboOnYT Gotcha. The biggest difference is that AC units do not need to have a minimum continuous speed. An ES44AC or SD70ACe can lug all day in run 8 at a crawl.
AC units dynamics all generate much more braking force than a DC at any given speed.
Like in rail industry simulators-recreational rail simulators can't be 100%.
I've looked at Run 8 for a while to buy but haven't yet.

Does the game trade out the full cars for empties at industries or does the player have to change the fulls out for empties?

The industries process cars and will produce either empties or fulls depending on the configuration. CalPortland for example takes loaded coal cars and empty hoppers and produces empty coal cars and loaded hoppers. It also takes an acid car or 2 I think. Each industry is different and you can even define your own if you want
