In Pendolino you can click buttons below the screens, in Traxx you can go to locomotive options on left screen and also change light/dark mode for the screens, in Dragon there are few options you can activate from right screen (like change power source from panto to "last-mile" engine that actually works) and in Elf... well you can only turn on and off passenger compartment lights.

Even if at this point it is not a 1:1 competitor with TSC/TSW.....having competition in the market is great as they will push each other to make a better product. The fact that it has multiplayer and an editor on the way shows they are trying to 1 up their competition already
I agree with Squirrel in how I hope the release of the editor opens up the game completely (along with Workshop support). Im not sure how they will get around the licensing minefield (which have been cited by DTG as the main reason of the editor not being released publicly); but it's sure to be interesting to see how it develops. The reason you need the throttle to go "green" is because EU07 is an old DC locomotive, meaning it has no thyristors or asynchronous motors (the thing that goes wheeeeeeeee on modern electric rolling stock) nor it has tap changers like the British AC electrics such as the class 86. Instead it uses rheostatic control, i.e the traction motor voltage is controlled by succesively cutting out resistor banks as you increase the power handle (wheel) notch by notch. It goes green (and the rheostat light on the panel goes off) when you're in a notch at which all the resistors are cut out. There are three or four such notches across the movement range, corresponding to series, series-paralell and parallel connection, separated each by a few "rheostatic" notches (and there is also the weak field control, which the English translation is incorrectly calling "shunt", in the EU07 it's a separate lever just besides the power wheel) The reason you should reach the non-rheostatic notch as soon as practical (without tripping the overcurrent relay) is the resistor banks heat up like crazy and you can smoke them up. In old rheostatic EMUs (like the British class 315 or the upcoming Polish EN57) the resistors are cut out automatically, because the controller camshaft (which on the EU07 is operated directly, hence the wheel and so many power notches) is rotated by an electric motor connected in a such way that it will stop cutting the resistors out if the traction motor amperage is too high, and depending on the notch you select, it will progress to the non-rheostatic series, paralell or weak-field automatically. You also sometimes have the SHUNT notch as on the LUL C68 stock, which keeps some of the resistors cut in to limit speed, primarily for shunting as the name suggests, but shouldn't be used continuously for overheat protection, as mentioned above

Let me clear the EU07/EP07 locomotive tutorial based on what the Polish community told foreign players
To add power from stand still, put the wheel on the first notch, then add more notches slowly until notch 28 while watching the amps to not exceed 600 amps.
After notch 28, you can add more notches, and the max amps allowed now is 1200 amps.
After the final notch of 43, you can add more power by adding the "shunting regulator". The shunting regulator is effective for adding power at notch 43, below that it's only adding a little bit of power.
If you're just coasting, put the wheel at notch 28 or 43 so the locomotive can stabilize.

If the price could be around $20, it will get a lot more interest in the early access stage which get them some cash infusion while still in development. I think the long team cash revenue will be scenery from different parts of the world, in a way similar to what MS flight sim had been doing.

In my opinion, Dovetail's train sim world still looks & feels arcade-ish. This looks very promising and I hope it focuses more on being a sim rather than spitting out as many routes as possible to make more money.
Also, I don't see hardly any difference between train sim world 1,2,3. Kind of like FIFA, recycling the game and trying to sell it as 'new'.

Train Sim World with a bigger number is just updates of the old version, like Train Simulator gets every year his update ... except for Train Simulator, you "just" had to play for new maps and vehicle. The update itself was awaylable for everyone that just ones payed for the game. With Train Sim World you have to pay for the update itself. I do not own TSW and will probably never do.

I play TSW and really enjoy it but i highly object to having to shell out for TSW3 just to play the new Glasgow to Edinburgh DLC when my existing copy of TSW2 allows me to drive all the other routes. Bringing out a new base game and forcing existing players to buy it in order to add new routes is morally dubious.

Great first look video as always! This looks fantastic. I would love a train sim where you could just join in multiplayer as a passanger. Instant add to my wishlist. Regarding the frame rates. 85fps might seem great but it is pretty misleading since you are running a 3090 Ti in 1080 resolution (which should be considered low res these days). If you did not have great fps this game would be unplayable for most people. This should be underlined more.

We definitely need a good alternative to TSW. These graphics look outdated and glitchy tho. Just pay attention to the weird headlight from the train on the tracks when he's at the first station, as well as all the flickering on the ceiling. The lighting in general just looks very last gen "video gamy", and not very realistic IMO. Also, there so much object popping even very close to the train and it is distracting and immersion breaking. Don't know if this is a limitation of the engine of if hopefully they can still fix all this in the final version.

I haven't bought it yet as I have had enough bad experiences with early access games. I think the most important thing will be if they decide to open this up to the modding community or not.
If they do, then this could become great.
Until all that has become clearer I will hold off and watch from the sidelines with interest.

re: the shadows of the leaves, it's almost too perfect which can itself result in something looking artificial. light isn't hitting the side of the loco from a single point source but reflected off all nearby objects so the shadow maybe would not be so dark and distinct.

    • @GretchenDawntreader
      @GretchenDawntreader Рік тому

fun shadow story, I had a refractor telescope in my backyard observing an annular eclipse of the sun by projecting onto a white card. Annular is when the moon is at a far distance in its elliptical orbit such that it does not block the whole disc of the sun but shows a ring of sun around it. One fun thing to do is to look at the ground under tree leaves, since instead of dappled light, the shadow of tree foliage is a bunch of ringlets which is hard to describe but very interesting to see.
