2024 Subaru Crosstrek Wilderness Review: Best Crosstrek for City Driving?

  • Yes, the 2024 Subaru #Crosstrek is better off-road than its other Crosstrek siblings. But all of the changes #Subaru made to the Crosstrek Wilderness also make it the best one to get if you live in a city! Potholes? Frost heaves? Big tires and soft suspension got you covered. Zip through traffic easier with the re-geared differentials. It's a little odd to think about, but the 2024 #CrosstrekWilderness is indeed a good city car.

Great review! Love this car! Nice to see a review that is focused on everyday driving, which is what most people will do with it. Thanks!

You are absolutely right. I currently own 3 Subies: WRX TR, Outback Wilderness and Crosstrek Wilderness. Even though the Crosstrek is the slowest, it is so light and nimble that I tend to drive it more than others for local city driving. It also looks the coolest in my opinion.

Totally agree with all your review points on this vehicle. Both as a city hauler, snow cruiser and mild off roader. My kayak is easily loaded/off loaded without straining due to lower roof height.
The seat fabric cleans up easily and is durable.
A non turbo is less chance of failure and increased maintenance costs.

Taking notes… I’ll take a “vibey” vehicle. Thanks, Jake!

Hello Jake! Love your channel (love the concept). For me and my husband, who drives a new Camry XLE AWD, we are going to stick with Hyundai and get a 2024/25 Kona Limited AWD at the end of the year (my lease is up in October). With all the dealer loyalties (been leasing from same dealership since 2013), I will convince them to give me a great deal. I'm driving a 2022 Kona Limited and the new Kona excites me as I'm into tech and I didn't care for the Crosstrek interior. Too butch for me, I guess? Anyway, looking forward to seeing more content from this channel.

Thanks Steve, glad you found us! I've got a Kona N-Line coming to review next week so there will be a video up on it in early February. They look really promising, especially over the outgoing model.

Hey Jake, I've been looking forward to this review since I saw this in your Instagram story a few weeks ago!
Interesting that the higher final drive ratio gives it a bit more pep. I can see that being useful in the city. I will say that the regular GU Crosstrek is plenty soft - I lent it to my nephew once and he told me it "drove like a boat".
Still, I'm not sure I'd recommend the Wilderness to be used primarily as a city car mainly given the price differential. That's a big reason I happily chose the 2.0 Premium - granted, my fun car is a WRX. If you do a lot of off-roading, then sure, the better city driving is a plus. But I wouldn't pay $35,000 just for that.

Yeah, the price difference is tough to overcome. But if you're a buyer who is already shopping a top-tier Crosstrek Limited, it's not so big there and the Wilderness may end up being the preferable one to drive depending on environment.

Got it at the Nurburgring when I visited back in 2019! Took a Suzuki Swift out from Rent4Ring and got a few laps in while playing tourist :)

Would you suggest the Wilderness over the Limited for the city? From specs it looks like the Limited has better MPG

      @OutMotorsports  5 місяців тому

If you value what the Wilderness brings to the table for city driving, as mentioned in the video, then yes. But it'll come at the expense of MPG, and the MPG hit comes from the differential re-gear and more aggressive tires vs the Limited.

All it needs now is a FA24 turbo to power it.

Yeah, a turbo would go a LONG way here...

The plastic looks not as bad in real life, but sheesh it would be nice if you could get paint match option.
