    The new browser is good, BUT to work in this DAW seriously and continue Upgrade Plan I want to see:
    1) Grid behind the clips in the arranger! (make it optional in preferences if you don't like it for some kind of reason)
    2) Midi comping!
    3) Piano roll improvements (look FL, not Ableton)
    4) ARA2 for Melodyne integration (look Studio One)
    5) Allow us to work with video on the timeline.
    6) Groove Pools / swing presets

      As a workaround you could create a project template with the tracks, then copy those tracks to the project you are working on.

    Thanks for the video! But I have to say that pretty much nothing demonstrated here is new.
    - The browser was always context aware.
    - We already could customize the browser for each context.
    - We already could create collections and smart collections.
    String search has been improved though and auto completion is a fine addition 🤩
    But the biggest problem is that we can't choose to display multiple rows anymore. Literally the only thing the new browser is really better at is displaying package images in a prominent and more favorable way. Yes the images take away a lot of useful space, but if we only could get our rows back I'd more than happy :)

      Please tell me how I can see Bitwig stock filters, vst filters, grid filters in the same results list in the old browser. Or maybe kick samples, grid kick presets, kick2 vst and its presets, e-kick and its presets, sampler kick presets all in the same results list?

    • @theRumbleChannel
      @theRumbleChannel Рік тому +5

      @@CuriousPassenger The old browser works basically the same way as the new one. The only difference is that devices, presets and samples were on a different tabs. BTW also something I want back. Lumping everything together in one row was a horrible idea imo, but I can see that some users might find this useful. And it would have been easy to integrate this behavior in the existing browser without killing all the niceties :).

    • @CuriousPassenger
      @CuriousPassenger Рік тому +2

      @@theRumbleChannel this is not "the only difference" this is "the crucial difference". I want stuff to be in the same list regardless of its content type. If I make a reverb patch in the Grid, I want to see it in the Reverb category along with the stock Convolution and Reverb devices and 3rd party reverb plugins. I can even make a reverb preset of Delay+ using its blur modes and save it in that Reverb category as well. This was not feasible in the old browser.
      The old one had static tabs structure. You have Devices, Presets, Samples tabs and that's it. Nothing you could do with it. In the new one I can choose which tabs (i.e. quick sources) I need and they're not tied to content type anymore.
      Also, I in the new browser collections can be 'local' too. In v4 when I need an instrument I go to the Devices tab, open the Collections row, and I can see collections with instruments, collections with FXs and collections with Note FXs. Wow. That's several dozens collections that I don't really need now. In v5 I simply choose the All Instruments quick source, uncheck the Show All Locations option and voila, I see only the collections that actually contain instruments.

    • @CuriousPassenger
      @CuriousPassenger Рік тому

      @@vrotegyou have a choice to not see everything in one list. Just use relevant quick sources and filters lol. In v4 I didn't have such a choice. How all of you aren't able to see how versatile the new browser is, I simply don't get it.

    The sample audition and management is far too complicated. When I'm in the "File Browser," I can audition samples in my sample folders, but can't favorite a sample or add it to a collection. When I'm in "Samples and Clips" I can audition the samples and add them to collections but I can't see the folder in which the sample lives. Which is really inconvenient! In my view, the new browser is over-engineered and not intuitive.

    Great job of making features no one asked for Bitwig 👍 Instead of overhauling the actual DAW features and giving us things we need like fixing the piano roll to match Ableton's, putting in all of the warp modes inside sampler, sample slicing inside the sampler, bezier, wavetable LFO and custom curve placement inside of automation lanes, bounce in place with tail effects, a proper resampling option on each channel, the ability to cross-modulate parameters within voice stacking mode, custom themes, etc...Instead of all those missing features you give us an even more difficult browser to work with??

    • @CuriousPassenger
      @CuriousPassenger Рік тому +2

      Wavetable LFO? You can't be serious.
      I think you shouldn't mention Ableton here. It's so poor feature-wise in comparison with Bitwig. I think you want Bitwig to be a generic daw. That'll never happen. Regarding the browser, I totally get what they meant there, but you apparently just don't.

    • @voicesofdust4749

      @@CuriousPassenger Sorry to burst your insular little DAW bubble, but as both a semi-professional Ableton user for over 16 years who makes money from Live and a Bitwig user on the side coming up with ideas and making music straight out of the box and finishing songs Ableton runs laps around Bitwig. Live 11 has more editing and implementative features than Bitwig. That is a fact whether you like it or not! Sampler still to this day does not have more than three modes compared to Ableton's six different warp and slice modes. You still can't draw simple sin waves in Bitwig 5's automation lanes. Comparing to the Grid to Max4Live? No need to even entertain that argument. Yes the Wavetable LFO shapes should be freely available in automation lanes. You also seem as the type of person who cares more about how a DAW looks more than how it performs considering Bitwig is made up of ex-Ableton programmers the looks are very similar. Lastly, more amazing albums have been made in Live than in Bitwig.

    • @CuriousPassenger
      @CuriousPassenger Рік тому +5

      @@voicesofdust4749 you can't even bounce in Ableton. Can't deactivate tracks and devices. Hybrid tracks? Forget about them. No operators. No full MPE support and voice stacking. The modulation system is poor. Note FXs in Ableton is an unfunny joke. The browser is ridiculous. Audio editing is meh. Clip laucnher and arrangement in a single window? Just no. Flexible three-monitor support with different profiles? No. Remote controls is a total mess esp. for VSTs. You can't setup devices' knobs the way you want. You can wrap devices in racks, but you will be limited with 16 knobs maximum. Device containers are like from the 20th century. Pre/Post?Note/Feedback slots? Nah. Flexible midi and audio routing? No. Unlimited sends? Sends in group tracks? Customizable shortcuts? What about different modes of recording automation? I can go on forever really.
      Regarding the M4L vs Grid argument, the former is more powerful, but the latter is way more user-friendly. It took me a couple of evenings to wrap my head around it and start building my own stuff there. The other day I build a '2x osc + sub osc + noise osc + 2 filters + distortion' general purpose synth in the Grid for future use, the oscilaltors, the flters and the envelope are replaceable with couple clicks plus I can use any of Bitwig's modualtors. It's more powerful than any stock synth Ableton can offer me, yet it took only 2 hours to make.
      Regarding Sampler, it doesnt have warping and slicing, but it has the textures mode and its multisample capabilities are way more stronger. Considring that the Sampler is fully integrated with Grid and Bitwig's modulation, voice stacking and MIDI expressions, it's more powerful after all. Slicing can be achieved with modulators, warping can be achieved through bouncing your sample with strecting before dropping it into Sampler, but it doesn't work the other way, as you can't make Bitwig sampler out of Ableton's both samplers.
      They added the Wavetable LFO in v5. As always it's polyphonic, and with audio rate modulation it can act as an oscillator on its own. Phase-4 now makes even more sense to me.
      "You also seem as the type of person who cares more about how a DAW looks more than how it performs"
      Yep, sure.
      " Bitwig is made up of ex-Ableton programmers"
      Yep, cos they were sick of the fact Live was developed too slowly and all the points I made above were not addressed.

      @@CuriousPassenger Completely agree. Dumped Life a year ago (after several years of using it), and bought Bitwig from the money (and a bit of what I had laying around). I never regretted that choice one bit. I would not go back to Live even if they pay me to do it. Live was always a struggle for me, while Bitwig fits me like a glove.
      Not to say anything bad about Live, but it's simply not for everybody. And the same goes for Bitwig of course...
