- In todays video I changed the direction in which S mode upshifts and downshifts. I felt S- Mode could be a bit more fun to drive if it shifts with the momentum of the driver. Pull back to upshift and push forward to downshift, just makes more sense in head. With the help of some awesome forum members who found color service diagrams, I was able to locate the T23 Transmission control switch. The switch controls S-Mode shifting. Switching 2 wires is all you need to do. First test drive went great with no issues. I will follow up in a couple of weeks. This is a Mod at your own risk. If anything happens to your Tacoma that's on you. Hope you enjoy.

ECT relay switch reversal, so it is in tow mode unless you turn it off. The relay is normally closed, so switch it with a normally open like the cordless charge relay.
This is an S mode Hack, nothing to do with the ECT switch? Are you asking me about another install?
Man, I love it. I hate the shift direction in S mode! my only concern is I have a 2020 and I know from working on earlier models that the wiring is a bit different in the 2020+. Hopefully not for this mod. You rock!

Had a manual 09 tacoma, just got a 22 automatic an drive in S mode often an It just feels wrong when shifting in 2nd a 4 th gear an pressing up, when in a manual u shift downward for 2nd an 4th...just feels wrong

Yes, It's not truly manual shifting. But yes it will let you drop gears and hold gears. If the RPMs are too high it will block you from going into 1st. Thanks for watching.
I wish they had not labelled it as Sport mode when it is just a gear limiter. It is useful, just not an auto stick like on other vehicles. Great for towing/hauling and for offroad descent or carrying power into an obstacle, but not a sport mode.

You know if you leave it in 6th gear, it will shift through, first to six gear, right?
Ah ya, which would make putting it in S-Mode worthless. Might as well leave it in regular Drive.

Props to you for making it shift the way you want but why put the manual shift knob on it... just buy the manual if that's what you wanted
Well I installed the shift knob and the extension after I tore my bicep. As I like to drive with my hand on the shifter it was painful trying to stretch my arm down to the stock shifter height. If Toyota made a TRD ball shifter without the shift pattern I would have bought that one. I'm not over here trying to be cool and act like I have manual. I'm not that guy.

GHOSTK1LLER510 I’m not certain. If you want to do this watch the follow up video. A plug and play harness was created for this mod which can be removed at any time. It’s a much easier install process than what I did. It’s well priced too.

Look up Ram Mounts. That base is specific to the 3TPAM, you might be able to find other mounts made by RAM to fit your needs.

Crap.. I’m worried now about it. I only did it one time in my new 4runner only a mile or so and now I’m afraid of it damaging my transmission. I used to own a manual Tacoma so I wanted to try it out. Now I’m scared.

Interesting. My Tacoma is the complete opposite in S mode than my BMW and it drives me nuts. My BMW has always seemed more intuitive, like an actual stick. The Toyota configuration makes absolutely no sense to me. Also my BMW is kind enough to down shift automatically so you're always in the appropriate gear for your speed. The Toyota, not so much. Stop at a stop sign, press the gas and the Toyota is still in 4th. WTF is that? Toyota wins in quality and reliability hands down but BMW knows how to make a driver's car that just feels right. Unfortunately they turn to crap shortly after the warranty runs out.
In S mode the Tacoma will down shift to lower gears on its own. It just will not go to a higher gear than you let it. Thanks for watching.
@@ClassyTacos yeah I watched another video and it doesn't work at all like I expected. On my BMW you shift gears up and down. Whatever it says on the dash is the current gear you're in. On the Tacoma you're only selecting the range. So when it says 4 on the dash you're not actually in 4th. It just means you are limiting the transmission to a top gear of 4th. Then it automatically switches gears (up and down) between 1rst and 4th. Kind of strange. I guess it has uses for towing or windy roads. You're just not actually shifting the car when you want like the BMW. Either way Toyota still has the direction backwards on the shifter as far as I'm concerned.
Do not do this mod unless you change your transmission fluid every 20k this mod will burn up the trans fluid big time do you think the engineers at Toyota would of done this better if they could

You have no idea what you’re talking about. This mod does not change anything in the trans or how it shifts gears. The trans still shifts gears the exact same way the factor set it to. The only thing that changed is the direction the shifter moves, that’s it. So in stock form if you use S mode it’s the exact same thing. Try to understand only the direction the shifter moves changed. That’s it. Nothing else. It’s ok if you don’t understand.
