    I must say the boss sounds much more authentic to my ears.

    Depends on what you want, but Strymon sounds close to my mesa Lonestar reverb, and the Boss sounds obviously Fender reverb. Personally I prefer Fender Reverbs.

    Nothing to be one with each other. The Boss Frv-1 is a legendary pedal, one of a kind. Keep it if you got it.

    I’ve owned both and both are great! That being said the Boss has a mojo and vibe the Flint just can’t get. Also the flint sounds like it was designed for modern sounds while the Boss has all the artifacts and glitchiness of vintage sounds

    Great video. My two cents....if anyone is looking at this video trying to decide between the two, here’s where I (personally) stand.
    If spring reverb is your thing which it is mine. No matter what I have to have just a touch of reverb and even the small amount I use, it’s hard to find a substitute for an actual spring reverb from an amp. I recently switched from a super reverb RI to an old bandmaster. I’m not in a position to buy an actual reverb unit so I use a flint. I have both pedals but if the words “drip” and “surf” aren’t in your personal music preferences; I’d go with the Flint.
    If you’re just looking for a touch of reverb or even up to a high amount without drowning out the sound of a note, they both seem to do that. At that mix and decay there’s not much difference between the two. Idk maybe this will hell someone...I say the flint because you also have the other reverb options and trem. It’s a lot more usable for myself (personally).

    I have the FRV and test it. The most important on FRV is put the Tone Knob at 100%. Is not like other pedals, first put 100% and then decrease if you want a dark tone.
    Today I purchased the Strymon Flint v1, so I’ll try both

    I mean, all of these spring reverbs are great, you really can't go wrong with any of them, it just boils down to personal preference. Based on this video, I think he Boss pedal clearly wins. I mean it sounds absolutely fantastic. Topanga is another great pedal. But when you go from like 5:00 (Boss) then 5:30 (Flint), it's so evident the Boss is the winner to my ears. Great vid!

      I feel the exact opposite. At those settings, the Fender is overwhelming for my tastes. But I also don't think the Flint mix knob is up far enough.

    Boss pedal really sounds more like a real spring reverb. The Strymon sounds a bit more hi-fi, like a plate.I guess it depends what you are after for sound. I'm all about the spring sound, even if it isn't perfect.

    I use my Flint in front of a Cornell Plexi 7 amp (which is a non master volume plexi inspired small combo). I use the amp mildly overdriven and the pedal works great in front of it. There's some kind of magic in Strymon's analog dry through. Love the Flint.

  • @JamieLamb
    @JamieLamb 4 роки тому +2

    I might consider getting it. The Axe Fxiii is what I've started using recently, and you can basically make it sound how you want. But, I don't plan to take the entire rig out when I start playing out around here... so, it still may be of some use. Thanks for the vids!

    Header caught me.. i have a flint and it is absolutely wonderful.. that being said i just aquired a 2020 64 princeton handwired.. and that means fullsize tube tank and tremelo circuit.
    Flint is amazing. But nothing cones close to that sound other than the real thing for spring tank verb..
    That being said i prefer my strymon trem .. not so much for tone and the effect is so similar. Its the speed. Strymon made it go slower than the tube circuit. and i like that.

    • @scottm121
      @scottm121 4 роки тому

      Also should mention i use the fender amp reverb at a 3.. and at that subtle level its so much deeper and richer sounding wheras you need to push mix when simulating to get the range without so much saturation

      First of all, you gotta let me know your band cuz I love the bands you mentioned. Are you just looking for reverb? There’s a ton of great reverb pedals out there if so. If you want the Trem too, especially for the Rhodes stuff the Flint cannot be beat in my opinion. It’s one of my favorite pedals.

      For SRV stuff probably the Fender Reverb - but the Flint does so much more for the money. Those Fender pedals aren't being made any more so you can get the Flint for the same price if not cheaper and you get a lot more goodies :-)
