For those saying the skater is crying; it's actually an involuntary response to a hard trauma on the brain. It basically reboots itself or freezes for a moment to try and evaluate what has happened, but it means our motor function and ability to speak are hindered. There was a case similar that happened on a season of The Ultimate Fighter where one guy takes a heavy, HEAVY blow to the head and just moans and whines on the ground for over a minute.
the guy who did this literally commented saying that he didn't actually hit his head. he was on a skating trip but when he slammed and hurt his rib, he knew he wouldn't be able to skate for the rest of the trip. do your research before making an uneducated video putting skaters in a bad light.

And no jumper took the vid without consent then left him there I had to make a 1hr drive across w La because the paramedics said they couldn’t help him and he could walk to a hospital. That’s with insurance
Surprisingly pretty common in skateboard culture. The crew will stay seated until they see blood then they start moving and maybe two people will ask if you are okay.

My uncle passed away from not wearing a helmet while skating and a couple of years ago my dad almost passed away and had to have reconstructive surgery done on his face so definitely be safe out there
I love when people that know nothing about skateboarding give their opinion on helmets. Helmets are distracting and will cause you to fuck up more often than they will save your head. Skaters generally have immensely powerful necks and are professionals at taking impact and falling well before they get good enough to attempt shit like a 16 stair handrail. If you grew up skating with a helmet, maybe you're used to the uncomfortable bullshit feeling, but most people don't wear a helmet when they're learning to Ollie or kickflip on flat ground. This video is a freak accident.

I had a friend who skateboarded in the bike lane to get to and fromm college. He often wore a full motorcycle helmet because he also had a bike and prefered it. He was run over by a car. He spent weeks in a coma and recoved with loss of smell/taste and personality changes. If he didn't have the helmet he wouldn't be here. You can be the works safest skate boarder and all it takes is one car running a light to delete you.
As a doctor you should know the damage is caused by the brain hitting the skull not the ground. They’ve basically given up on making a helmet that can stop concussions because it’s impossible
@@OnyxHuber1187 skull fractures allow room for the brain to swell without being squished and causing brain damage. Doctors actually crack skulls themselves when helmets prevent it but usually it’s too late by then.
Bicycle and motorbike helmets do pretty good at protecting against concussions to some extent(not 100% obviously) And any certified helmet is good enough to potentially save you from dying or being disabled from a brain injury.
I've got a skateboard and I've just been practicing the basics and cruising around getting comfortable on my board, but in the next few weeks, once I've got the money I'm gonna buy a good quality helmet (S1 lifer). There's no chance I'm attempting any sort of tricks without one, this type of thing can even happen doing simple tricks! Not risking my brain just to look cool
I’m not a skater by any means but I knew a backpacker that had a board and when she left the country she gave it to me. It was expensive (around $200) so I decided I might as well put it to some use. I skated on the flat surface which was make for skating and I didn’t at all think I’d be hurt. Anyways while I was just getting used to the board I finally decided to put both my feet onto the board and somehow lost balance and fell. I fell hard on the ground and landed on my hip. It was quite painful and I think it will bruise badly but I know a lady that landed on her bottom and broke her tailbone so she’s unable to sit down comfortably and the surgery has chances of paralysis so she is not going through with it. It gave me a harsh reality check today and I’m glad I didn’t break a bone or anything but it’s safe to say I’ll be staying away from that board from now on. Stay safe everyone
A helmet saved my life as a kid. I was riding my bike. I hit a rock and went flying. Landed on my face. I hit so hard that my helmet cracked. The crack started at my forehead and went all the way to the top. I am grateful for that helmet and will always wear them.

@@jayskate6631 And the point of a helmet isn't just to prevent the brain from doing exactly that (bouncing around in your skull), but it's also to prevent blood loss from your brain from those impacts. I've seen blood spill out from people's heads whenever they don't wear a helmet and it's not only scary as hell, the damage can (and oftentimes is) permanent.
Skateboarding is the love of my life. What you say has no impact on whether we wear helmets or not. We know we can smack our heads and die we just don’t care. Skate and destroy not skate and create. @@justalpha9138 in all hobbies and skills in life there is a skill level. A limit. Meaning you know what you are and are not capable of. Because you do said skill or hobby basically all the time. Skateboarding is the exact same way. In order to skate this rail safely, you have to skate handrails on a regular basis and Gradually go bigger and bigger over months, and master falling (because falling is a skill we have to perfect if we’re gonna be slamming into the ground for essentially no reason). This dickhead in the video more than likely skates a few flat bars and hand rails and though he could skate the Hollywood 16. He couldn’t gauge his skill level. They’re little girls that skate this handrail on some real grown man shit… but they’re also at a skill level where they SHOULD be skating the Hollywood 16.

Getting hurt is apart of skateboarding I know but there is a difference between rolling an ankle and getting brain damage. As a skater myself, wearing a helmet has saved me countless times and it’s kind of silly being so pressed about a dude telling you to be safe 😂
I ride BMX. My wife really wanted me to wear a helmet when we first got together. I ended up buying one, and the same day of wearing it, I eat shit on a handrail and smack my forehead hard AF on concrete floor. Luckily I was wearing the helmet and protected me, and essentially didn’t feel a thing. My wife was there, and we were both in shock at how lucky I got wearing the helmet. I never took it off while riding again 😂😂😂
That's ridiculous. All the best pros have gotten concussed. Nyjah, Foy, Zion, Jaws...the list goes on. They all will suffer the effects of brain trauma later. It has nothing to do with ability and everything to do with an industry and culture that loves carnage.
My dad’s buddy was on a three wheeler, wasn’t going very fast, hit some sort of pot hole or something, fell over and hit his head on a rock, (wasn’t wearing a helmet) and now he can still tell you that 2+2=4 but it takes him 30 seconds to get out the answer, this is great advice, please wear a helmet and knee/elbow pads when you are riding something even as simple as a skateboard.
Crazy how I see more people talking about this “stigma” than I’ve ever seen perpetuating it. Literally over 20 years of skating, being around skaters, hanging out with skaters, and I have never seen or heard anyone be ridiculed for wearing protection. I don’t know anyone that has been on the receiving end of ridicule either. This is such a non-issue, but it’s 2024 and people are still bringing it up. 99% of skaters do not care if you’re wearing a helmet. They are way too focused on their bs feeble or whatever they’re trying to pay attention to what someone else chooses to wear. There is no stigma. If a person is so concerned with how they’ll be perceived for wearing a helmet or pads, then they honestly shouldn’t be skating because they clearly lack basic self-confidence skills.

A helmet saved my life as a kid. I was riding my bike. I hit a rock and went flying. Landed on my face. I hit so hard that my helmet cracked. The crack started at my forehead and went all the way to the top. I am grateful for that helmet and will always wear them.

@@jayskate6631 And the point of a helmet isn't just to prevent the brain from doing exactly that (bouncing around in your skull), but it's also to prevent blood loss from your brain from those impacts. I've seen blood spill out from people's heads whenever they don't wear a helmet and it's not only scary as hell, the damage can (and oftentimes is) permanent.

Skateboarding is the love of my life. What you say has no impact on whether we wear helmets or not. We know we can smack our heads and die we just don’t care. Skate and destroy not skate and create. We’re not oblivious to what we’re doing. We just don’t care. Plus he probably wasn’t ready to skate the Hollywood 16 and if that’s the case, that’s on him!

@@justalpha9138 in all hobbies and skills in life there is a skill level. A limit. Meaning you know what you are and are not capable of. Because you do said skill or hobby basically all the time. Skateboarding is the exact same way. In order to skate this rail safely, you have to skate handrails on a regular basis and Gradually go bigger and bigger over months, and master falling (because falling is a skill we have to perfect if we’re gonna be slamming into the ground for essentially no reason). This dickhead in the video more than likely skates a few flat bars and hand rails and though he could skate the Hollywood 16. He couldn’t gauge his skill level. They’re little girls that skate this handrail on some real grown man shit… but they’re also at a skill level where they SHOULD be skating the Hollywood 16.

Getting hurt is apart of skateboarding I know but there is a difference between rolling an ankle and getting brain damage. As a skater myself, wearing a helmet has saved me countless times and it’s kind of silly being so pressed about a dude telling you to be safe 😂

I ride BMX. My wife really wanted me to wear a helmet when we first got together. I ended up buying one, and the same day of wearing it, I eat shit on a handrail and smack my forehead hard AF on concrete floor. Luckily I was wearing the helmet and protected me, and essentially didn’t feel a thing. My wife was there, and we were both in shock at how lucky I got wearing the helmet. I never took it off while riding again 😂😂😂

My dad’s buddy was on a three wheeler, wasn’t going very fast, hit some sort of pot hole or something, fell over and hit his head on a rock, (wasn’t wearing a helmet) and now he can still tell you that 2+2=4 but it takes him 30 seconds to get out the answer, this is great advice, please wear a helmet and knee/elbow pads when you are riding something even as simple as a skateboard.

Crazy how I see more people talking about this “stigma” than I’ve ever seen perpetuating it. Literally over 20 years of skating, being around skaters, hanging out with skaters, and I have never seen or heard anyone be ridiculed for wearing protection. I don’t know anyone that has been on the receiving end of ridicule either. This is such a non-issue, but it’s 2024 and people are still bringing it up. 99% of skaters do not care if you’re wearing a helmet. They are way too focused on their bs feeble or whatever they’re trying to pay attention to what someone else chooses to wear. There is no stigma. If a person is so concerned with how they’ll be perceived for wearing a helmet or pads, then they honestly shouldn’t be skating because they clearly lack basic self-confidence skills.
