This Beautiful Moose Mum of Twins Suffers a Devastating Injury that is certainly going to alter Her life as well as Her twin calves. On these roads, Moose may try to run when a vehicle approaches.. the crunching of the road ice seems to be a trigger that spooks them at this time of year. It could have also been a collision with a vehicle, as Moose are very difficult to see at Dusk/Night. Whether she slipped and fell while running or this was a collision, it is a sad reminder that we need to take a bit more time during encounters to keep them calm.

It is rare that both the twins has made it that far! And i think these twins is going to survive.

Is there anyway wildlife services can bring in a vet, maybe tranquilize and set the leg or is it best not to interfere as such?
Often I wonder how those long limbs don't break. Driving with my dad as a child he would always slow down to like 2 mph and tell us how important it is to SLOW DOWN or stop when animals, these large animals, were in the road - even riders. Slow down doesn't mean 10 miles an hour with animals, it means a complete stop or very close to a stop. Prayers she gets through this but I'm worried about the leg, pain, etc.
Thanks for the fantastic videos 💯

Yes, drivers really do have to stop or roll at what you said.. 2mph. We wonder if she is in pain as well. Her leg is certainly swollen. We don't know if anything can/will be done, but the fact that she can only move very slowly is going to be an even greater risk along these roads. Thank You Lizzie!

So sad to see mum moose with a broken leg. Hoping her babies will manage somehow. Do they usually spend the winter with her or move on come late fall? It's a sad situation either way.Heather

The calves usually do stay with their Mum for a year or so according to what we witness. They will be quite vulnerable to any predators, but that is less of a concern during the winter months. The calves may actually tag along with other Moose Mothers if they need to.. we saw 16 Moose on this evening, within a 15km stretch. They are being quite social right now, and that may help. Thank You Heather!

Sad to watch. Hopefully the twins are old enough to survive on their own if mom doesnt make it. Hope all is well with you!!

Yes, we hope so. We do have an Elk Mum here that has a similar injury and She has managed, but this Moose Mum looks like She is pretty slim caring for 2. When you are driving and you come across them, it can be tricky to know what to do. If you try to pass them, they might Bolt and slip.. and Moose are unique in that they will run right in front of the "issue", whether it's a Car or a Train, without altering their path. We find just stopping on these quiet roads is best. It gives them time to realize there is no threat and it is also always a gift to have any quiet moment with these Gentle Giants. Thank You Chris!

God, what a pity for her.
    How could this happen?
I hope the relevant services will notice her and maybe correct this problem surgically, I don't know...

She could have slipped or was struck by a vehicle. Thank You!
