- Using my Canon EOS R7 and the RF 100-500 and RF 800mm lenses, I visit the wetlands in Dayton, Tennessee, and photograph Tree Swallows, Red-winged blackbirds, Song Sparrows, and Northern Mockingbirds there. See me get into the swamp! LOL

Those are some really sweet photos. I agree that the 800mm produces a really pleasing bokeh. It was smooth… Thanks!!!
Thank you, David! That lens should not be any good, but it is, it’s weird.
I like your videos, because I am using similar gear. I am trying to learn from you, as I think you make stunning photos.
Thank you!
Superb selection of shots Phil, so many gorgeous species! Cheers
Thank you, Peter!
@@PhilThach also congrats on the 10K!😀🥳🥳🥳
Congratulations on 10.000 subscribers!
Thank you!
Great Phil! Thanks.
Thank you!
Nice video Phil! At some point during the summer there's often some white egrets up there, and I see kingfishers there. I try to get by there every few weeks and see what's up.
Thank you, Forrest! It's a nice place for sure. This was the first time I've had any luck there.
Nice Job - I have noted on the Red wing Blackbird if the sun is on their back (Male) there is a brown edging to the feathers on their back-- really pretty-- We have a local drive through wildlife refuge near us and their are a lot of black wings.
Thank you!
Some great shots considering the light conditions
Thank you, Tony!
Great photos Phil....
Thank you, Cesar!
Good pics taken in trying circumstances. We have to try work with what we have.
Thank you!
Nice images Phil!👏
Thank you, Bill!
Thanks....
Thank you!
C’est toujours un plaisir de regarder vos excursions photographiques. Bravo pour vos belles photos
Merci beaucoup!
Thank you so much for sharing another wonderful video like always Phil, I get so happy every time you post a new video full of awesome pictures, keep up with the awesome content 🐦👍🤗
Thank you, Miguel! That is a very nice thing to say! :)
Great video and great photos! my favorite lent 800 canon
Thank you!
@@PhilThach Hello again! what is the best profile style for birds in the canon R7 for you Phil? what do you use? o do you have any video explaining? Thanks in advance
Great shots Phil. Those blue tree swallows are just so beautiful. Even though there was little light you still did well with that 800mm. Thanks for sharing.
Thank you, Adrain! It did get slightly brighter by the time I switched to the 800 but it never got really bright enough to use it. It’s a pretty amazing lens for the money.
Love the tree swallow and green heron shots. Great work Phil!
Thank you!
I am always impressed by the sharpness of your pictures. Keep it up.
Thank you! They are not all sharp. I only share the good ones. That’s my secret lol.
@@PhilThach That’s probably every wildlife photographers secret as well Phil.
Great shots Phil! I really liked the tree swallow that was coming out of the hole in the tree. I don't think I've ever seen the female red wing blackbird before.
Thank you, Stephen! It’s nice to see a pair nesting in a tree as opposed to a bird house.
Nice video. If I sat on the bank of that lake without taking a bath in DEET I would be covered with chigger bites from head to toe and all unmentionable places between. As a wildlife and nature photographer, chiggers are the bane of my existence in summertime. I treat my clothing with Permethrin and do use DEET around ankles which keeps most of the chiggers (and ticks) away but still get them. I have about 10 on one leg right now. I didn't think they were out yet around here. silly me. Haha
Thank you! I did find a tick on the back of my neck that day. Fortunately, it hadn't dug in yet.
I don't mind pushing the R7 to about iso3200. With dxo pure raw 3 in the XD setting it really helps, even at 6400 or 12800, but I rarely let it go that high.
I try to stay under 1000 but, like dxo pure raw, Topaz can usually save it even at much higher ISOs.
Great video Phil. Beautiful birds😀
Thank you, Richard!
More great pictures, Phil! I can't wait to get back out into nature myself. Soon. Very soon!
Thank you, Tim!
Love the colours of green heron probably because don’t get them here.
Thank you, they are beautiful, I agree!
A fall into that marsh definitely would not have been fun, but you have taken some worse tumbles for sure.
Your bird photography and editing skills just keep getting better and better. Thanks for the video👍.
I would have had to get Heather to bring me a change of clothes before I could get in the car if I fell in. I took my sweatshirt off that day and sat on it as I drove home. I was pretty dirty from just sitting on the bank. Thank you! :)
@@PhilThach I saw your feet in the water and immediately cringed. All I could think of is any similar setting here in Florida and knowing that an alligator was headed your way.
Great video! How often do you walk around vs sit and wait when you are birding?
Thank you! I don't know if I can give you an exact ratio of my sit and wait versus walk around during my bird photography. I can say that I do a lot of both.
Another great video Phil, just curious which shutter mode do you use? I’ve been using the R7 for awhile now but use electronic shutter mostly.
Thank you! You can pretty much count on me using electronic shutter for wildlife and mechanical for sports. I think later this year, when I do some hummingbird photography, I’ll use mechanical for that too.
Heck in Florida, the birds are so use to people, you can almost hand feed them, (slight exaggeration). Decent vid.
Thank you.
Instead of going with the 800 f/11 (which I have also) have you considered adding the RF 1.4x TC to the 100-500? It's surprisingly sharp. Don't get me wrong, I'm impressed with the RF 800 f/11 sharpness too, but at least with the 100-500 you have more flexibility.
I don't know why, but I almost always prefer to go with the 800 f/11 instead of the 100-500 with the 1.4x extender. You are right about the flexibility, I would have bagged that close-up sparrow shot if I had gone with the rig you are suggesting.
@@PhilThach My standard config is the 1-4 with the 1.4 extender always mounted. Still debating another 800. I don't remember my 800 shots looking as good as yours.
Just a question Phil, I know you shoot with both the R6 & R7. Which do you prefer?. I really would like your opinion, thanks
For small birds I definitely prefer the R7.
Hello Phil, I am using the R7 together with the RF 800. What minimum shutter speed would you recommend when shooting hand held and all stabilization is turned on?
Sometimes I can get away with one 1/160 on a full frame but maybe nothing less than 1/250 on APSC. Use electronic shutter to eliminate shutter shock.
@@PhilThach Thank you I will follow your advise. I noticed a lack of sharpness with the RF 800 but I guess it will be atmospheric disturbance on a distance of 200 m.
What are your favorite places to shoot wildlife in East Tennessee? I’m about to receive a 150-600 Fujifilm. I know Fuji isn’t as easy to use as the big boys but I found a great deal on the lens.
I’m not sure I could list all my favorites in a comment. There are too many. That fujifilm 150-600 looks like a great lens!
@@PhilThach yeah looking forward to trying it. Before this one my longest was the Canon EF-S 50-250mm
Do you use Tripod for taking those beautiful photo
Thank you! These are handheld.
@Phil Thach I am new in birding. Just buy R7 after watching your utube. Would b glad if you please teach me how to set up R7 for birding ,still and vedio. Your photo look stunning ,taken at such low shutter speed with handheld. How do u do that
@@woraponchrojprasert6051 Use electronic shutter mode. Make many photos, and share only the best ones.
what are you taking the noise out with pure raw? topaz?
I've personally used both, and I prefer pure raw myself.
@@TBGTOMPHOTO I have both and side by side the updated topaz does a bit better with sharpness and shadows try them side by side.. 2 months ago pure raw did a lot better topaz had an update..
@@DAVE_WHITE are you using dxo pure raw 3, or 2?
I use Topaz Denoise.
@@TBGTOMPHOTO i have pure raw 2 stand alone and pure raw 3 trial and topaz..
But I use dxophotolab elite so I get exactly what pure raw 3 does already on export with the deep prime tab in dxophotolab 6 elite the only difference is you can batch with pure raw 2 3 and topaz in dxophotolab 6.6.0 elite it is just a tab to click on export called dep prime XD and it does it as well
I gave up on lightroom years ago when adobe went to 9$ a month I'd rather buy the software outright and just pay a few $ for updates.. and photolab for me is a lot better then lightroom..
