Dude, honest question, what make you think you know which is the right path to take on ICP compared to the vision Dominic, a guy who raised 250 million USD for this startup ? Did you raised your 1 million for your idea yet? What have you achieved in life to make you feel that confident to suggest successful people what to do? Friend I created a startup which was worth millions too, and in my opinion Dfinity focusing on AI is the right way to go, building the infrastructure for this future software, building a useful product like caffeine AI, products, we need products people can use, Dfinity saving money for the products they are building is what I like not giving money to useless entrepreneurs that just wanna make quick money and leave the project.

Selective grants are a non issue in my opinion. People build tools open source all the time without any grants or anything I don't see a grant as a right I see it as a privilege. If a grant is needed then the project should reassess if a grant is wanted then it should expect that not all projects get grants.

I’m curious, as a developer yourself, do you see this? If so, how can we incentivize the DFINITY foundation to provide better support? Like Fabio Zerotohero mentioned, as long as data goes up on ICP, and they are working with Cambodia now to adopt ICP into their systems. I mean from a standpoint investing in a stock this all the information you need, development and success. If dfinity used their money to pay big media, exchanges and influencers, they probably would not have had the team they have today to achieve this, it would only be another coin in the market.

💯 agreed. Although I do understand dfinity's approach. Supporting tech startups and developer tools contribute to building out the infrastructure at scale. Consumer Startups will ultimately benefit. For example caffeineAi has already got people in the community talking about bringing their ideas to reality- People like me who don't have a developer background. This is a great grass roots initiative and will help the ecosystem grow at hyper speed levels. I don't mind them focusing on AI at this point and it pleases me to see that narrative of the Blockchain/crypto cloud is being pushed top down. Having said that, I also want to see a push to bring crypto agnostic people building on the IC. A question for you is, do you feel ICP is ready as a Blockchain cloud competing with the likes of AWS to drive a campaign to bring crypto agnostic start-ups to the ecosystem- or even existing companies to migrate their assets over to ICP?

same story as the XRP Ledger. too many start ups took their projects to other chains because they received zero support from Ripple's dedicated fund. I have a theory on this. The foundations/companies that manage these protocols are mission driven and what they can't say publicly is that these protocols are not intended for entrepreneurs to build whatever they want on them. Perhaps Dfinity, like Ripple, is laser focused on it's target market and doesn't really care about what you are building because they know best. We are building a real world solution on ICP with external funding. Other chains funded startups to their demise like Algorand foundation. It makes sense to fund infrastructure rather than startups without traction. Lowers risks

Why do you keep saying they are focusing only on marketing Ai. It seems like they aren't marketing anything, just sharing progress. Well, I mean, devs do use copilot or at least starting to use it more to make them more effective devs. I think something more specific to ICP would be an aid and not a detriment.
But I totally understand community building is extremely important. Also it's hard to get started anytime you pick up new tech. Usually it's constant errors at first until you finally get Hello world to compile and you know how to set it up. I had this happen everything I switched embedded systems.
He is facing the same issue all of us are facing. I want to use ICP and start implementing it into my everyday ecommerce business life and quite frankly the truth is, I can not. I want to focus on my inventory and not Artificial Intelligence. One of those is the true asset.

there is another problem with the ICP ecosystem. I am quite new so I am researching the various dApps of the ecosystem. Many dApps are actually dead or as good as dead (infinitinote dApp, mora, itoka, ...). 1-2 years ago the projects were hyped and today the dev-team seem to have left and the dApp is just hanging there. There is also no proper decomissioning. Developers seems to do some experiements, meme-coiners seem to be interested in a price push and then after a while the drivers have experimented enough and seem to loose interest and just drop the hammer and move on. I am quite new - but somehow I have this impression. Have you also observed this?

@@cxc if you give me some hints in the video how to do a technical analysis and how to find out if an app is still actively supported by the dev-team this would be great. I am not that technical , I would do the reaserach, but I do not know where to look (canister cycles, active proposals, upgrades, ...). Maybe some dApps also have been designed with a sub-optmial architecture and after a year or so the dev-team figured it out and just lost interested. maybe the founders are not earning any money with it and lost their intersted. somehow I would like to find some sustainability indiciators to figure out: is the app still actively supported, are the founders making money with it, will it still be there in 2-5 years
The reason is because of grant hunters. They just go for them to get paid, but don't have any business strategy so after the project launches they don't know how to make it succeed so they just move on to some other ecosystem and go for another grant. The builders aren't invested enough in the outcome. Growth team is trying to fix this

I like your efforts, but it's unfortunate that your takes are so uninformed. You, I, and know one else knows what they are doing in the dfinity building. Just because the infrastructure does not suit your vision at this moment does not mean it won't.. it's fine that you search for improvement, but Dfinity has laid out a strategy for developers first, marketing and entrepreneurs later. I'm sure the 10 or 15 people that agree with you are sincere. Have you all considered that the developer tools and AI models (which should be of the highest priority based on what the market currently dictates) might allow entrepreneurs to have an easier time in creation and deployment of their dapps? Yes! Your emailer is saying what I’ve been saying for months. And he is outlining what marketing / sales enablement depts. actually do in the corp world. They make sure the right target priority customer’s wants and immediate needs are addressed. That feedback loops into the product innovation process. That’s how it’s done. Your emailer IS your target customer right now. The value prop is not yet strong enough in fact not just words, because we are focusing on the wrong customer while other “inferior” blockchains collaborate and learn with their customers.
I think Definity is doing ok by focusing on AI. The future technologies are robotics crypto and AI, all 3 are disruptors and ICP is focusing on 2 of them correctly.
I can tell you this much, i have an IOT company and after about a year of thinking (and investing) how i can implement ICP as my backbone infrastructure, I made the decision to update and to carry on with microsoft. It is just not mature enough, and thats fair. I really do like the fact that its protected by cryptography, but what does that help if i dont even know where to begin or who to contact. It should not be my job to investigate the when and the hows. IT SHOULD BE SOLD TO ME, and sadly we are far away from that. But who knows, one day they might actually cater to someone like me and my usecase, I sure hope so.
@@AndyWault-jl2zc Security mainly and GDPR. Initally i had hoped for some kind of dapp on ICP where develpers could list their skills and time available and "up for hire" status. And the fact that microsoft and centralized tech is getting really expensive with their constant server versions, security certificates, licences, anti virus and backup. All i want to do is get away from centralized tech, and for what i have learned over the past year, the world computer is the answer. The tech is there, implementation is not, atleast not for the masses. But i hope it will be in the future. I hope one day i can call my local IT company a say to them I want my IOT platform to run on ICP... give me a price and get it done. Until then i can only hope for a dapp that lists developers that are up for hire as i mentioned earlier.

Hi James, thank you for sharing. Yes, probably what you mentioned is a problem and it has to be solved. However, you could underestimate the impact that AI on chain can achieve if all goes well. Many companies couldn’t use chatgpt and others because of privacy related issues and the possibility that IC could open to them creating personalized AI agents is huge imo
I've been building a tooling / framework on ICP for more than a year now. I chose it because the tech stack fits well for the particular use case I'm building for. In many ways, it seems superior in terms of what you're capable of doing with the tech stack. Recently, when trying to integrate Plug wallet into my system, I ran into basically a show stopper. When checking the Plug github, it looks like the bug I ran into has existed for quite a while, what's worse is that the developer isn't responsive. Plug is the #1 web wallet on ICP, moments like this give me pause on whether or not I chose the right stack. I agree with your view about their focus on AI, at the end of the day, I think Dfinity is just jumping on the AI bandwagon trying to attract big investors.
Grants should primarily be allocated to tools that benefit all developers, rather than being directed toward random XY dApps. Historically, 99% of apps, whether in the blockchain space or elsewhere, fail to achieve adoption. As such, grants should not function like a lottery, where a promising idea or even a well-executed dApp is funded without a guarantee of success or adoption. Given the limited funding available, it is crucial that grants are reserved for projects that create reusable tools and/or infrastructure that can benefit the broader developer ecosystem in the future.
Since you have a fair stake in the game I suggest getting on a plane and walking into ICP doors and speak to the most senior people as possible than gauge your decision on their responses, demur and openness to your opinions & views. Some money spent yes but I feel you're at the crossroads and your decision needs to be informed by walking in the doors and feeling your way through. I have done this several times when the stakes are high and i have put so much research into a project/business. I'd have to do some research on the hubs but can you explain why the hubs wouldn't be a good solution? Or are you insinuating hubs are not addressing their intended purposes?

We are building a real world solution on ICP with external funding. Other chains funded startups to their demise like Algorand foundation. It makes sense to fund infrastructure rather than startups without traction. Lowers risks

Hi James, from my understanding, Dom tweeted that icp is putting all of their money into rnd, and thats why he said that they are lightyears ahead. Why do you keep saying they are focusing only on marketing Ai. It seems like they aren't marketing anything, just sharing progress. Also, wouldn't AI help developers with developing their apps, the very support you wish they would focus on more?

Well, I mean, devs do use copilot or at least starting to use it more to make them more effective devs. I think something more specific to ICP would be an aid and not a detriment.
But I totally understand community building is extremely important. Also it's hard to get started anytime you pick up new tech. Usually it's constant errors at first until you finally get Hello world to compile and you know how to set it up. I had this happen everything I switched embedded systems.

there is another problem with the ICP ecosystem. I am quite new so I am researching the various dApps of the ecosystem. Many dApps are actually dead or as good as dead (infinitinote dApp, mora, itoka, ...). 1-2 years ago the projects were hyped and today the dev-team seem to have left and the dApp is just hanging there. There is also no proper decomissioning. Developers seems to do some experiements, meme-coiners seem to be interested in a price push and then after a while the drivers have experimented enough and seem to loose interest and just drop the hammer and move on. I am quite new - but somehow I have this impression. Have you also observed this?

@@cxc if you give me some hints in the video how to do a technical analysis and how to find out if an app is still actively supported by the dev-team this would be great. I am not that technical , I would do the reaserach, but I do not know where to look (canister cycles, active proposals, upgrades, ...). Maybe some dApps also have been designed with a sub-optmial architecture and after a year or so the dev-team figured it out and just lost interested. maybe the founders are not earning any money with it and lost their intersted. somehow I would like to find some sustainability indiciators to figure out: is the app still actively supported, are the founders making money with it, will it still be there in 2-5 years
The reason is because of grant hunters. They just go for them to get paid, but don't have any business strategy so after the project launches they don't know how to make it succeed so they just move on to some other ecosystem and go for another grant.
The builders aren't invested enough in the outcome.

I like your efforts, but it's unfortunate that your takes are so uninformed. You, I, and know one else knows what they are doing in the dfinity building. Just because the infrastructure does not suit your vision at this moment does not mean it won't.. it's fine that you search for improvement, but Dfinity has laid out a strategy for developers first, marketing and entrepreneurs later. I'm sure the 10 or 15 people that agree with you are sincere. Have you all considered that the developer tools and AI models (which should be of the highest priority based on what the market currently dictates) might allow entrepreneurs to have an easier time in creation and deployment of their dapps? Dfinity has a proven track record of timing and competency by EVERY metric. To make well informed arguments you need to have all facts. Respectfully sir I doubt you know even 5% of what's taking place.

I can tell you this much, i have an IOT company and after about a year of thinking (and investing) how i can implement ICP as my backbone infrastructure, I made the decision to update and to carry on with microsoft. It is just not mature enough, and thats fair. I really do like the fact that its protected by cryptography, but what does that help if i dont even know where to begin or who to contact.
It should not be my job to investigate the when and the hows. IT SHOULD BE SOLD TO ME, and sadly we are far away from that. But who knows, one day they might actually cater to someone like me and my usecase, I sure hope so.

@@AndyWault-jl2zc Security mainly and GDPR. Initally i had hoped for some kind of dapp on ICP where develpers could list their skills and time available and "up for hire" status. And the fact that microsoft and centralized tech is getting really expensive with their constant server versions, security certificates, licences, anti virus and backup. Cost cost and more cost, all the time.
@ sounds like getting into ICP development is a much needed skill. I've been looking around at tech stacks to start learning and may start focusing on the gaps on ICP.
@@AndyWault-jl2zc I invested in ICP so i ofcourse want it to succeed, but without easy accessibility to developers its a long long road for cases like mine. All i want to do is get away from centralized tech, and for what i have learned over the past year, the world computer is the answer. The tech is there, implementation is not, atleast not for the masses. But i hope it will be in the future. I hope one day i can call my local IT company a say to them I want my IOT platform to run on ICP... give me a price and get it done. Until then i can only hope for a dapp that lists developers that are up for hire as i mentioned earlier.

Hi James, thank you for sharing. Yes, probably what you mentioned is a problem and it has to be solved. However, you could underestimate the impact that AI on chain can achieve if all goes well. Many companies couldn’t use chatgpt and others because of privacy related issues and the possibility that IC could open to them creating personalized AI agents is huge imo

I've been building a tooling / framework on ICP for more than a year now. I chose it because the tech stack fits well for the particular use case I'm building for. In many ways, it seems superior in terms of what you're capable of doing with the tech stack. Recently, when trying to integrate Plug wallet into my system, I ran into basically a show stopper. When checking the Plug github, it looks like the bug I ran into has existed for quite a while, what's worse is that the developer isn't responsive. Plug is the #1 web wallet on ICP, moments like this give me pause on whether or not I chose the right stack. I agree with your view about their focus on AI, at the end of the day, I think Dfinity is just jumping on the AI bandwagon trying to attract big investors.

Grants should primarily be allocated to tools that benefit all developers, rather than being directed toward random XY dApps.
Historically, 99% of apps, whether in the blockchain space or elsewhere, fail to achieve adoption. As such, grants should not function like a lottery, where a promising idea or even a well-executed dApp is funded without a guarantee of success or adoption. Given the limited funding available, it is crucial that grants are reserved for projects that create reusable tools and/or infrastructure that can benefit the broader developer ecosystem in the future.
Since you have a fair stake in the game I suggest getting on a plane and walking into ICP doors and speak to the most senior people as possible than gauge your decision on their responses, demur and openness to your opinions & views. Some money spent yes but I feel you're at the crossroads and your decision needs to be informed by walking in the doors and feeling your way through.
