Atleast where you live there is no bears, wolves or cougars (mountain lions) to worry about. Here on Vancouver island in Western Canada you would be freaked by the number of mt lions around at night in the bush.
And here I was afraid Mike was going to get squished in the middle of the night by a badger... :)
Yeah you might have cougars but we have tories,chavs and year 7s jacked up on white lightning so….
There's actually loads of sightings in UK of minx are some breed of big cat been caught in tapes and sightings from locals.. And there's some hoobie woobies too like dogman are this type of cryptids worldwide.
I like that you showed what those particular "night vision" glasses actually do. That loss of depth perception is a big deal though if you are doing any kind of work where you could hurt yourself by accident: setting up camp, making hot food, etc. I am glad you left the footage from the goggles in so we can see what it looks like. Awesome that they have the ability to record. Will look forward to your exploration of this. Glad you're well enough to camp again.
You got better video with that “night vision” then what I was expecting considering most people that are in the night vision world would call that a child’s toy.

I think the difference with Swedish meatballs is that they're usually made of pork whereas we in the UK tend to make them from beef. There's also a fair bit of breadcrumb in there to keep them soft and juicy.

Thanks! Be wary it throws your perception big time. The field of view is so different to our human eyes. Good experience though!

Swedish meatballs taste so different due to the allspice and nutmeg seasonings rather than the basil and oregano, and possibly parmesan that Italian style meatballs feature. I make the Swedish kind often, here in the western USA.
Love the firebox stove, it’s been my go to on single adventures for years.
That little stove reminds me of the compact stoves the Germans carried during WW2. I think they had little fuel tablets that were used with them. Mike, it's been some time since I watched your videos, always loved them, particularly the palletwood cabin. Sorry you've been ill. I hope your father is well, he's quite a character.
I still have my camp utensil set from the 1970s . Swedish meatball nutmeg and potato... really stealthy with that bright light going.
Nice video Mike and thanks for showing the infra red night vision goggles. Remember if you do want to see further and cut through the trees, you can buy a higher powered independent infra red spot light torch that will work alongside your unit. 👍

Condensation really is an issue in those bivvy tents. I owned both this Stratosphere and the Dutch Army one by Carinthia and sold both of them, because condensation and claustrophobia.

You asked for the yummyyummy „swedish meatballs“: they are named „Köttbullar“ and are made of minced meat (best one is Elk!) with slightly oriental herbs. The myth is, that the swedish king Karl was trapped by Osmans and brought the „Köfte“ to Sweden. But they were well known before his „royal holidays“ - maybe without the oriental touch… Stay on healthy and thumbs up! Ole
Another great video Mike - honesty 100% spot on - very interested to see how visible this NV is to military NV . And laying your gear out showing the sleeping bag has a bigger footprint (packed) than the tent is awesome. Love your content please don't stop
If this unit has an IR illuminator and you have it turned on, it would basically look like someone walking around with a flashlight/spotlight (depending on how strong the IR illuminator is and what generation the other set of NVGs are) to other people in NVGs (military or otherwise). If not, they wouldn't really put off any ambient light outside of the light the screen puts out. The main difference between military and these kinds of NVGs are that military units tend to be analog image intensifiers and these units are digital (basically a digital camera with a toggle-able IR filter or the IR filter removed entirely). Hopefully that makes sense.
This night vision is trash. Like a flashlight to gen 3
The reason you're feeling nauseous is because it's not phosphorus tubes that are as fast as light is.
You're using a camera recording and the screen has a slight delay, that coupled with the delay of the eyes is very hard for the brain to understand.

Please make a video on the laws surrounding wild camping in the UK. I would love to go out to try some bushcraft etc, but I am not sure where I can and cannot do this.

These Tags are simple to remove by pulling them of like you would split a sheet of paper (If they aren't made of textile fabric). The stitching ist like a perforation in them and also the stitching and tentfabric ist much more sturdy so they won't come appart. 👍😁
It is fine to see you out in the woods on a wild camp again. I was also interested in seeing how night vision might help outside of still hunting. I have this style of bivvy/tent. It is shelter but little else that is practical.

This must have been the first time you have ever used these nods. I own them and yes the mic is rubbish, but for the money these things absolutely perform. Even with a PVS 14, There is a slight distance away from your face that you cannot see. You have to use them and train with them.
Oh yeah they are good. It’s just I don’t personally think they’re great for when moving around. Great if you are stationary and looking around. But moving with them and doing things with your hands they’re not wide angle enough. It’s ok when looking out ahead of you and moving. But when looking down and trying to do things that was when it threw me off.

To be stealthy you can't have a visible fire. Chem heat MRE's could be a better solution. I live in NW USA and we have night critters like bears and cougars, making solo tree camping safer. Military grade night vision is the best choice. The other thing to consider is cooking food with an odor (Swedish meatballs).

I had several cameras that would normally do night time, but the IR lights stopped working. So I just got a big IR light and put it high in the back yard, now I have 4 night time cams and 1 IR light . . works like new !! ;)

I'm thinking you could probably save some space, by squeezing the sleeping bag, and the bivy tent into one bag.
That bivy tent, with a sleeping bag or blanket, and a tarp for shade or when it rains, is all you really need.

I had night vision monocular I used to spot rabbits before lamping them. Found it messed up my eyesight for half hour after using it. I found it best to use the night vision on my left eye but keep my right eye for the rifle scope and lamp. Sold it because I didn't like the temp eye problems it caused.

By using it then abruptly not, you are messing with your natural night vision. Its the same if you dont use a headlamp at night then turn it on and back off. Your eyes tend to have a hard time adjusting.
Some proper NVGs do have IR light sources on the units. Night vision doesn’t work in complete darkness and still needs a light source to be used. That’s why IR is used, visible in night vision but not to the human eye.
Good fun Mike. Worth doing. Get some heat sensors.
Suggestion, cut 2 chunky sticks about 15 inches long, bang into ground then upend your boots onto the sticks, keeps falling rain out
They're still real night vision with infrared illuminators. Certainly, now there are better ones, and thermals to boot, but the original designs generally had illuminators for when it was really dark (cloudy, no moon, inside, etc.)

That was good footage with the night vision. Maybe next time bring some meat and distribute it20 or 30 meters from your camp and see if foxes or badgers come for it.
You should get a tiny little battery powered inflator because using your breath puts moisture into the pad interior which will grow mould as it is stored, and they can also blow air into the camp fire if you happen to be struggling with damp wood or whatever
I enjoyed the video. I think to make Swedish Meatballs you need a Swedish guy to make them. I watched PewDiePie's video on making Swedish Meatballs and they seemed like normal meatballs but just made by him 😂 Those night vision googles look like fun. I'd like to wear them here in Canada at night to see what creatures are close by the camp at night. Or maybe I wouldn't want to know, lol😁Thanks for sharing and Happy New Year!

Digital has come a long way. No where near as good as my 31's, but really cool to experiment.
Have you considered using small magnets to keep your cross pegs corralled for the little stove.
Oh, the Canadian Bushcrafters just use little sticks in those little stoves.
A tip for the tentmaker?
Print the information instead of labels.....
I'll be back with a recipe for Swedish meatballs without an "English touch"
Ok.
800 g minced meat
800 g mixed minced meat
mix 1 dl cream/1 dl milk
2 dl breadcrumbs
2 eggs
1 dl water
2 onions
2 teaspoons brown sugar
2 tbsp broth of anchovies
4 tbsp of concentrated veal broth
2 tbsp Kikkoman soy
butter for frying
salt pepper
Mix the "cream milk", breadcrumbs, eggs and water into a loose batter.
Set aside to swell for a while
Peel the onion
Grate one of the onions
Finely chop the other
Mix all ingredients quickly in a bowl to a batter.
Add salt and pepper
Test fry a small piece to check the seasoning

This isn't really night vision though which is probably why you're getting sick. These digital goggles introduce a delay that would make anyone sick. Real military night vision uses expensive analog image amplifier tubes.
The image is better, they work under much lower light without a IR illuminator, in fact you want to not broadcast IR light in conflict zones so. Also, the image is instantly updated so no nausea.
But, they are ridiculously expensive and hard to find.
certainly Swedish meatballs have different spices but apparently they are made with 50:50 pork to beef whereas Italian meatballs are all beef.
Probably if you could see some animals or what ever your looking at. Then night vision would be fine. As for that little tent you had, I think if that there was more space for your feet. Like if it was raised up like over your head it might be a little better. I prefer a little bit bigger tent. Such as a one man or two man tent. That's just me. Great video
Quit a good explanation I would say like a lighthouse or wearing a headlight to a military version. 👍🏻 and yours are probably 840 ir which we can see the faint red glow but you can get 940 ir which we can’t see far more tactical 😂unless you have thermal or mil spec nvg
I always wanted a night vision optical. But they cost so much sir. They work real good under ground sir and inside any caves.

It was in his backpack everytime he was in the woods but seen him used it once before when he got cut in his finger.
Only really used plasters most of the time. Occasionally tweezers but thankfully not much else.

Dehydrated foods will ne quick and simple to prepare just boil water. I made my own Dehydration foods.

I don’t think Sasquatch lives on the British Isles. Mike should come camping in Appalachia! Sasquatch, bears, wolves, cougars, porcupines, lots of opportunities for wildlife up close!
If you sink your foldable stove into the ground, or shield it with upright slabs of rock your flames would be even more stealthy from a distance.
