I can't drive because of medical reasons. This is gonna change my life. I can't wait.
Depend on the medical condition. you still wont be able to drive if its something like severe epilespy. Even if it drives itself you would still need a license which you may not qualify for depending on what the medical condition is.
Hopefully you're not dying soon because this could still take 10 to 20 years to reach a point where you can ride your own car without a license. Elon Musk will always want it done sooner than it really will be and he's being vague because he knows he can't stick to his claims.
@@Theoneandonly88able You will still need a license when the technology is ready but eventually it will cease to be a requirement. Jake B I agree that it would be very impressive it Tesla outsold the F-150. However, what they’ve done is still impressive, as far as sells are concerned. The f-150 is a vehicle that is marketed towards a completely category of drivers who don’t have heavy loads or do not plan on going off-road. What would be more impressive than outselling the F-150 for Tesla would be to improve the quality of their vehicles. Teslas degrade so much within one year that it makes the vehicle not even worth the financial headache. Any model Tesla releases is going to sell good because of the people who believe they are saving the planet.

Lidar is doomed
"Pulls out shotgun

This is because lidar inherently is a low information system.... it's a method of reducing the data that a program has to process.... however at a certain level of algorithmic and computational complexity/performance it actually starts hurting you as lidar has thrown away alot of information that regular old cameras will not.
@@orichalchem lidar will pull out a rubber gun, more like a didar than lidar
Lidar is a very expensive sensor that's basically low resolution, low framerate, limited maximum distance camera that can capture not just color but also depth. You can approximate depth information with good accuracy using plain old 2d cameras, for much less money and much better resolution and framerate, AND you'd be able to see past 100 feet.

@@risto993 The chip Tesla designed is not made for graphical rendering workloads at all, whereas GPUs (Graphical Processing Units) are.
@@florisr9 Right, so in the older teslas you said there is a chip similar to a gpu, why not just call it a cpu?
@@risto993 Because they used a chip from Nvidia which uses the same architecture as their mainstream GPUs used by gamers for example.
The general understanding of a CPU is a processor that runs any computer or smartphone. These are made by AMD, Intel, ARM etc.
From an architectural standpoint a CPU is different from a GPU in that it is much better at computing general purpose, serial, random instructions. This is why they are running at higher frequencies and have less transistors made for calculations than GPUs, which are basically lumps of small but slow CPUs doing very similar work in parallel.

@@vikrantsingh47 And what exactly is going to change outside of human cities? At the end of the day modern forests are the exact same now as they were 1000 years ago.
As for it being just the roads, that isn't true. Even the current google street view has still images of people going about their lives. But this is just the beginning how long will take before we can walk around all theses 360 pictures of a city using VR.
For someone who lives in the north, I very curious to see how these self driving vehicles handle winter conditions.
It learns from how human would have taken the route and teachs the rest of the fleet. It gets better after every Mile driven.
they can learn in summer and use in winter.
That is actually a very good question. Even rain can be a huge problem, because what you can see and what it looks like changes dramatically. We as humans don't experience it that way, because we are used to it and our brain is enormously adaptable. But for computervision today even a change in lighting and shadows can be enough so that an object is all of a sudden not recognized anymore. It will be interesting to see if Tesla really is so much more ahead than the competition and if that is actually enough. Because the problems with fully autonomous driving are seemingly endless. The more you look into it, the more problems you find. It's almost like a Mandelbrot rendering ;)
@@jati You didn't watch the presentation, Jan. They addressed exactly this.
The front of the cars have radar which can see through fog & snow -- but more to the point, they actually don't need to be able to even see "sight lines" as they put it, because whenever a human being is driving a Tesla car, they're training the network on how to drive in that condition. Since they have half a million cars out there, that means they're getting an incredible amount of data for "how to drive like a human" in addition to their direct self driving data.
Your concerns are valid -- but they're valid for 3 years ago.

@@IvoPoblete "First motor cars" - 2 things I noticed.
Electric cars use electric motors, so thus they are included in that statement.

Electric cars have existed for over 100 years in Detroit. Along with plenty of other weird solutions to power the cars. Not really nothing new.
@@94fleetwood49 Well, then.
First cars with internal combustion engines. That's better said, I think.
I would say that Tesla is the first car brand to offer a completely electric line-up, and that has approached the business in a way people like Musk can only do. I know that GM, Honda, and I think Toyota, too, did tried electric cars before Elon.
But at its core they were known as an automaker specializing in internal combustion vehicles. And their business model was in no way relatable to that of Tesla which is structured outwards (to their public), in my opinion, to veer away from the traditional scheme of things, car industry-wise.
Wouldn't you say so??
And I know Detroit Electric did make electric cars in during the first decade of the XX century. But in a small scale. Really small. Unlike Elon.
Furthermore, Detroit Electric did not exist after the 1910's or 20's, as far as I can remember. They went bankrupt, or maybe were absorbed by another car company or corporation of some kind.

True on the face of it but we all know that "law enforcement" will still be able to charge you for "being in control". I was DUI busted here in California about 12 years ago. They lock you in a room once a week for six months with a dozen other 'drunks'. At least two people were arrested for DUI, that weren't even driving. One had the keys in his pocket, while waiting for a taxi, at a country club front desk. Always take a lawyer to court. They got me legitimately and I was a danger to others so no argument there. But the report said I was .42 alcohol content, which is beyond unconscious and into a coma-like state (just before death) for most people, yet I remember the whole thing in detail, even today. So the blood test should have been questioned. Now I see cars with so much smoke in them, you can't see through them. I hope the drivers all have auto-pilot, they seem to think they do.

Then they vectorized the space around the agent and compunded all events into single output with also human inputs. Damn!
So for the neural network part at the end, is he saying that the 3d map around the car picked up by sensors is going to shared to other Tesla's? Creating a huge map of cars near Tesla's?
This is what used to be called ASIC. Designed to be extremely power efficient with specific purpose to fulfill.
Yes, like the antminers used, very effective for one specific purpose but nearly useless for everything else
This gives me goosebumps.
love the background music!
Name??
Side note: if I’m not mistaken Tesla model s doesn’t have a backup sensor to detect movement and distance, but it has a backup camera. Why don’t they somehow add a sensor into the T logo on the rear bumper. Also a model s/x makeover would be nice very few things have been done in the last 7 years other than the front bumper, software updates, and the new motors just now released.
Nice
From memer to serious ceo. Damn
"It does not take up half of your trunk"
What a surprise!! Im mind blown!!
Yes it does motivate me and I'd say the rest of Canada to jump on board!!!
He can be the real life Arnim Zola
If you know What I mean.
I like how Elon was attempting to look serious when he said Lidar was doomed.
I'm a laser engineer. He is right. By all means, use every wavelength range you can build a sensor for, but range finding with Lidar is giant flyswatter. Multiple parallax visual systems can determine a cars shape down to inches and it's relative position to centimeters.
Yes full self driving capability want to purchase more and its 2021 now so we are getting closer to Full self driving 🚗 but I won't use full self driving as much because I like to drive.
I never planned on having AP until recently I was caught in "soul destroying traffic". I'll take AP now. Take it.
Wtf are you talking about dude?
the music makes this video significantly more worrying
Antreas Tzionis wait what what’s worrying about this? it’a innovation and its progress in humanity but go on
@@moistydoooood It's that he is an easily manipulated individual that allows themselves to be lead by the most basic stimuli. (ie, it's got music that sounds scary so it is scary!)
Name of the music please
Let's all remember that this man hosted Meme Review.
I wonder if you drive the tesla on a older highway that has worn off lines. Does its onboard computer still have lane departure warnings? I wonder how strong the software actually is.
Hell yes it does! && it’s energy efficient! 👍🏾
Elon musk has the best team everrrr.tesla is amazing💙💙💙
zoha nourani Ask anybody who’s worked at Tesla, they work you hard. If you don’t come in on Saturday, don’t bother coming in on Sunday.
background music is exciting. remind me of Terminator.
Or Tron great score for sure
As an Elite: Dangerous player, as soon as I heard FSD I thought: "Damn, these cars really are evolving"
min 2:13 "LIDAR is fool's errand...Doomed" Holy sh$%!!!! 😂😂😂
the last percentage might be to integrate with street cams, using logarithmic prediction.
Considering Waymo is valued at 100B, Tesla right-now at 50B is stupidly cheap.
STC there taking the Silicon Valley aproach
tommy aronson Waymo is putting money in a completely different tech. Human have been driving without laser for years. The use of laser is stupidly expensive.
@Trump 4 Prison 2020 Yeah if you have 500k cars on road it will surely kill more people than 1000 cars in "labs"!
Trump 4 Prison 2020 Tesla have the most cars.. + They don’t have selfdriving car, si Tesla can’t be responsible
@Wolfgang Preier Waymo is just a name change. It actually started in 2005 by a branch of Stanford University for DARPA's competition, then it is operating under Google in 2009, and then finally as a separate company called Waymo.
I don't think i ever seen Elon so confident and bold on his state ment about lidar.
do sensors work properly under rain? fog? and snow?
