That six minute rant by the fan is worth the watch, regardless of what team you cheer for. That dude is a hero. As a longtime sox fan, I blame the players. Like said in the video, the brass and GM had a loaded farm system. These guys are just playing like crap, or injured. They were lucky when Yermin Mercedes carried them for awhile.

Small critique only cuz I’m a White Sox fan while it may seem like 2013-2016 were rebuild years they were actually trying to win believe it or not, those were the years where they spent money on Melky Cabrera, David Robertson and traded for Todd Frazier. Hey, I feel you all the way over here in Detroit. We were excited to be on the up ourselves. Then there was that little spark of a rivalry between us at the end of 2021. We were excited for a little Chicago-Detroit rivalry action. Nope, turns out we both suck. What's even worse is that our division is so craptastic, there's only one good team, that's it! No one wants to challenge them. This division is ripe for the picking and nobody wants it. It's very aggravating.

    • @guyincognito320

There are no good teams in the ALC. The Sox should be in the driver's seat right now for a 4 peat in the division but in the final tally Rick Hahn's rebuild will have produced one division title with a pathetic showing in the ALDS where they were really exposed as an altogether inferior franchise as compared with Houston. The 3-1 outcome doesn't tell you much. Rick Hahn is easily bottom 5 in the league yet he's been there for 12 years or so. The current has talent but several horrendous players that you just cant win with because you need backups. They can't produce anything of minimal baseball value - serviceable utility players, middle relievers - from within. All their young talent was either from a firesale trade or a high first round pick, so in other words the hardest to mess up.
Sox ownership has never been terribly serious about winning. Their last two GMs have proven themselves well below average but they're both still there.

There seems to always be a silver lining in Detroit of what unheralded prospect or AAAA castoff will turn into something if only for a year or two. The problem seems to be the wrong shortstop was signed in that super class and that Torkelson hasn't been as good as expected. Almost like back when the Tigers had Carlos Pena. Injuries have plagued the team more than I would say is usual for a team. Whenever Moncada or Eloy are injured, it sets us back quite a bit. Whenever TA is injured, we're almost destined for defeat for a month. When Luis is injured, it's a gaping hole in the outfield. And these have all happened in 3 back-to-back years, meaning Leury Garcia became a regular member of the team. Sometimes it's multiple injuries at once, and they'll range from lymphoma (which we now know is gone), to an overextended finger muscle. It even ranges across pitchers, but they've mostly been knee injuries. The wildest thing about all this is that we had *just* gotten a new medical staff.
The closest 2nd baseman we've had remotely like Iguchi has been Elvis, and I hear day in and day out about how mediocre and over-the-hill a player he is. He's only been playing SS because TA had been injured. Burger has been filling in for Moncada and this year is really showing that.
The last couple of years, our entire outfield has been just about missing because Eloy hadn't been there, but was liable to be injured anyway when he was. With Benintendi, Robert, and Colas, we had something resembling outfield defense. And yet many of our games this year have had (checks notes) Gavin Sheets in right field, even with Colas *not* injured.
The pattern I have seen is that we have these awesome baseball players that people have asked for, but they keep getting injured and pulled out for real extensive periods of time. And then they come back to a team with absolutely NO morale. That's why we like Billy Hamilton, Elvis, and when he was with us, also Goodwin. When they're here, they help stop the vicious cycle. They can't do it on their own, but they're like jumper cables being attached to a Maserati with an engine problem.
But that doesn't stop the engine problem, and we gotta figure out what's really wrong with this engine.

As a sox fan I'm still clearly upset over the '22 season. It was indeed a slap in the face to fans who believed in the hype. Letting Abreu walk out the door was one of the stupidest things the organization can do. Despite him aging, he was clearly one of the only few work horses doing his job and the guy was injured several times yet he still played through them and even excelled better then anyone in the roster. Additionally not rehiring James McCann and instead going after Grandal was a terrible plan of execution and what about filling the 2nd base role? That still hasn't been resolved since the rebuild! Better yet where is our starting left hand pitcher? So many questions and so little answers. Clearly going into the 2023 season I see it nothing but a band-aid of a year in progress and after seeing that recent losing streak happening this early in the season clearly shows how bad this team will faulter. Don't expect them to do any better then to remain .500 at best. The Sox organization did everything right to sabotage these past few season. I was never in favor of LaRussa's rehiring. That alone set the club at least 2 years back in performance. The DUI he received before being rehired was swept under the table. It wasn't until after his rehiring did that come to light over the local sports talk airwaves. What done me in with him was his ego trip, that he asked that "this won't affect my hall of fame statue will it?"....
Hiring Pedrol as his replacement, was again another band-aid.
Until this club rights the ship, as far as I'm concerned I will not be spending my hard earn money into attending any more "losing" this season after attending a 1-4 record of last.
I'm with the rest of the crowd this past week...

TLR hadn’t been a manager for over 10 years and had just gotten a DUI days prior to the hiring and during his second stint as manager, the players were taught bad habits that they still have not broken yet to this day (not hustling all the time, hitting singles, etc) not to mention the poor roster construction by the yes men/puppets in the front office that resulted in having to play 1B/DHs in the outfield which obviously did not work, as well as players underperforming and constantly getting injured

They've had quite a lot of years that had a little hope at the start that they could make the playoffs with reasonable good luck. The problem is always with the bottom half of the roster, where your farm system really reveals itself. That part seems to be what makes them 2nd place/3rd place most years. They can't produce effective relievers through the farm clubs and can't produce bottom of the order guys who don't suck, or backups that have good fundamentals. Aside from the rebuild they always spend a decent amount but you need to spend and to develop and in order to do the latter you have to be committed to excellence, which ownership is not.. they've had the same underperformers for 20 years.

Tigers fan here, first of all, great work on a well structured video. This is an important topic in baseball. I think you pointed out a lot of good points, and I think from within their division I often sit there flabbergasted at how they aren't winning with the roster and raw talent they have. However, I do think it's way early in 2023 to talk about this team as a perennial failure who will "never" live up to expectations. Don't get me wrong, they are in need of a DRASTIC turnaround, better management, and a culture change. But we're still early in 2023 and their contention window is by no means expired. Here's to hoping we make it over the top before they do though 😂

I'm not a fan, but and I gotta say by 2019 I was excited for the project the White Sox FO had on the table. I was ready to see another competitive team on the AL besides the Astros and Yankees. I think the FO's mistake was to overpaid for players in their attempt to bring known names to their stadium (remember the fiasco of the Manny Machado offer?), they were desperate to show big players wanted to be on the southside as much as in NY or LA. LaRussa was just the lil push they needed to fall off the cliff. At the end of the day the organization wrote checks their players couldn't cash out.
Still I don't believe they are a lost case, they do need to change their entire coaching staff tho, it's not normal how players with so much unleashed potential just hasn't achieved it.

This is what happens when teams attempt to build through their “systems” instead of simply purchasing talent through free agency. One or two prospects per season is fine, but the rest need to be certain winners… look at the Dodgers, Astros, Yankees, RedSox, Rays, Braves, etc., etc., etc. It’s funny that all 5 of the Chicago big four sports teams are in rebuild mode - at the same time…

I’m surprised they didn’t re-sign Rodon, and I thought for sure Kopech was gonna turn into one of the best pitchers in baseball. They really never truly had a star slugger besides Abreu in the shortened season. They needed Moncada, Jimenez, Robert, Vaughn, or Burger to pop and they never did. Kopech never becoming their stopper either. With Cease having such a bad year, and Lynn and Giolito barely serviceable, they might be looking at another rebuild. That Benitendi signing is looking really bad right now with his power effectively extinct.

After 2021, 2022 was the perfect moment for the Sox to announce that they were back for more and make a big FA signing. It was clear that this team could not beat good teams. And, somehow, Rick Hahn thought it would be a good idea to go "all in" on the 2021 team by trading away a top 5 draft pick in exchange for a second closer who routinely struggled with new teams. Somehow that made sense. That was the day the team went from climbing uphill to going downhill.

Front office wise I wished Hahn would have been better then Kenny Williams but it’s more of the same, not having a backup plan incase things don’t work out. The front office desperately needs to be completely replaced but I don’t think Jerry is willing to take that step. As frustrating as they have been this year they’re still my team.

So many teams tried to replicate what the cubs did and tore their teams down from the bottom up and started fresh with new prospects but what those teams failed to realize that the cubs had on their side was luck… lots and lots of luck. You have a 50/50 shot with prospects if that… the cubs got lucky that a lot of their prospects panned out and then add in a few good trades and they had a good albeit short run and then teams tried to replicate it but can’t.
Just look at my tigers. Shackled by shitty contracts and put all our eggs in prospects but where our ownership failed was when we found a good prospect, we traded them for three mediocre prospects for some reason… I’m just glad miggys contract will be gone after this year and we can finally move forward.

I’m always jealous of the “small” market teams that contend every year and keep bringing drafted talent up from the minors or making trades and developing players through their system. The only White Sox draft pick to win an MVP? Frank Thomas
Also the Sox want every Cuban player in international signing. It hasn’t worked and needs to stop. They’ve been doing it for over 10 years. Maybe look at some Japan, DR , Mexico, PR, VZ players? Japanese players for White Sox? 2
    Tadahito Iguchi
    Shingo Takatsu
This franchise is sad. Rick Hahn is to blame, he’s the GM. Maybe Jerry has been saving up all these years to give Ohtani the $600 million and fool us all? Lol not likely.

As a Cubs fan. Watching our rebuild take place paid off since we had one young core and a WS ring. But the playoffs lacked us since we were roughed out by age. And bad luck. Here's an example.

2016: Won NLDS, Won NLCS, Won WS
    2017: Won NLDS, Lost NLCS

    White Sox
    2020: Lost WC
    2021: Lost NLDS
    2022: Missed Playoffs
I think some speculation is free agency, age and injuries. Like Rizzo was good as a first basemen for the Cubs but he had a glaring issue. Back Issues. Rodon was good, but injuries held him back. If anything. Rebuilds are nice, but sometimes these things kill you.

  • @ReadIcculus93
    @ReadIcculus93 Рік тому +4

Personally I think there are 3 main reasons why this rebuild failed.
    1. Poor front office in free agency.
Consider who they have signed as free agents the past 5 years or so compared to who was available. They could have focused on younger players in free agency or dished out more money for someone who was actually going to make an impact. Guys like Dallas Keuchel, Yasmani Grandal, Liam Hendricks, Lance Lynn, AJ Pollock, Josh Harrison, Kendall Graveman, all these guys were past their primes when the Sox signed them originally.
    2. Poor manager selection
Tony La Russa is a big reason why this team lost anything they had going for them in terms of momentum. The ball stopped rolling the second he came to town. Yes they made the playoffs his first year, but does anyone remember how bad they were the 2nd half of the year? All I have to say is that Rick Renteria oversaw this rebuild from the start, and that team played its heart out for him. Not so much for "oops i fell asleep in the 5th inning again" Tony. and now we got a guy who has no business managing an MLB team, trying to put all these broken pieces back together again. This is the "new" answer. 3 managers in 4 years is a problem for any team.
    3. Injuries
This team could still perform at a high level with the lack of performance from their top free agent signings because they have a young core. Eloy, TA, Robert, Moncada, cease, Kopech, and Crochet. What do they all have in common? They've maybe all been available to play at the same time a total of 25 games in the past 3 years.... This young core cannot stay healthy for anything.

I miss him so much. We just need a manager that coaches with as much passion as him. A guy that knows how to get the most out of his players

@@LaChino7 LOL! ROFL! He only won y'all ONE Season! Rather, he BROUGHT y'all a Championship from Bud Selig. And you're whining he could win you Championships? Face it Jim, the 2005 White Sox were a Flash in the Pan. You've been losers since then. Failed to make the Pennant in 2006 and haven't made it back to the WS since then. Not even Once.

Good video for a bit of history on the team, but the analysis was weak. Can basically sum up that portion of the video as “Yoan Eloy and Luis didn’t pan out”. Yeah, anyone who watches this team knows that they’re underperforming. Also not nearly enough praise for Vaughn who’s been killing it this year at first

People don't seem to want to talk about the "intangible" aspect of baseball that exists and affects players. Injuries are the catalyst that have led to all the issues the Sox have. No other team in baseball has had their heart and core be injured 50% of the time for 3 years straight. This team is frustrated at the consistent AAA lineups we're forced to throw out and having to pick up everyone's slack since they're injured. After 2-3 years it DEFLATES morale. The players are dead inside and mentally drained. There's no amount of stats that can measure morale we can only measure the stats that are CAUSED BY deflated morale. There needs to be a video about this.
