I wouldn't necessarily say Logan was a bad bf, at the start of dating Rory he was a jerk but what I think makes him a good bf is after being with Rory he changes for the better, and actually ends up being a very mature person later on. The fact that he was willing to change for Rory makes him great imo. He does care a lot about Rory, and is actually emotionally available for her unlike Jess was. Although I love the way you see how much Jess changed for the better in this scene too. If only Jess was this mature when they were dating, maybe then they would have lasted!

Rory got worse too being with Logan in my opinion. I didn't like Rory's character when she was with Logan. Yes Jess left, but he was 18 had family issues, he had a lot of crap he needed to learn to deal with his emotions, and open up. Until Luke and Rory came into his life he didn't have anyone that cared about him, but she motivated him, and he changed cleaned up his act, got his life together, and made something for himself from nothing. Jess truly loved Rory he just felt he wasn't good enough for her, and when he finally had something good in his life he didn't know what to do, so he left before she could leave him. He messed up a lot, but he truly loved Rory, and wanted the best for her, and he always pushed her to be her best self, because he knows what she could be, but she had given up on her goals pretty much, which wasn't like Rory. She always had goals, then when Logan's dad said she wasn't good enough she just gave up, and he was the only one to give her that motivation that she needed to get back up again.

Yes that's because he is the one for her! She is a mess without him she was herself with him, with Logan she was always trying to fit into his world, and be somebody she wasn't. Jess is her other half after he left she became a mess, and took the exact same path Jess was on before, he was the only one who could get her back on track because he was the one for her, he knew from day one she was the one for him, and he never had to cheat on his wife with her either, instead he cleaned up his act, and turned his life around all because of her, they needed each other they were just in different places in their lives, but she only listened to him because he motivated her, Jess is the one for her! She loved Logan, but even in the end she couldn't marry him, because Jess was truly the one for her! Jess was always coming into her life at different times, and there were reasons for that he waited on her for so long, and in the last season with Logan it was all Lust, Jess motivated her then too, and encouraged her to write a book, and she did, they alway saved a look just for each other!
Rory did have a point, Jess didn’t know what it was like. She could’ve been easily having a mental breakdown, Logan was the only one who could see it and that’s why he didn’t pressure her into going back to school. He knew Rory needed to make her own decisions, she was 21 not 5

jess EASILY could’ve broken up rory and logan if he wanted to, but he was being SO mature. he was being a petty little kid when he broke up rory and dean (even tho it was obvious they liked each other) but then he grew and just thought well, if she doesn’t want me on her own, she’s not worth it. You are right Jess easily could have broken them up here, in fact he almost did without him being in the picture, he was clearly the one for her! He was the only one that could get her back on track because they were each others other half! He was a mess before, and then she took the exact same journey as Jess did, she lost herself when he left, because they belonged to each other! She was lost without him that's why she started messing up her life after he left, and he was the only one who could motivate her to get back on her feet not even her mom her best friend could get her back on her feet, or even Logan. He did really grow up, and mature, and he turned his life around, and cleaned up his act because of her. He still waited for her all those years though, because like he said he knew from the first moment he saw her they were supposed to be together, but even though he loved her he still let her go be with Logan, before he would have just broke them up like he did with her, and Dean, but he matured so much!
Yes he could easily break them up. But I'd like to think that this Jess wouldn't want to be with this Rory, he knows that she can be better and encourages her to be ,without being her savior, cause he knows she can do it by herself. Hence the "maybe we'll catch up at a better time".
Jess had the decency to hold back on arguing with Logan, yet Logan actually had the audacity to pick a fight with Rory's old friend the first time they meet. That's just disrespectful. So what if they used to date and Logan is a little jealous. That certainly wasn't nice and shame on Logan for assuming Jess was dumb and not well-read.
This is why jess is the guy for rory. Regardless of how sweet logan may have been at times, he was an absolute jerk ESPECIALLY in this scene, and didn't deserve rory. Jess was the only person who really got through to rory. She was a college-dropout living at her grandparents, until jess told her off. Then all of a sudden, she's going back to Yale. Hmmm coincidence? Literati is and always will be my lane for exactly this reason. Jess knew her better than anyone, and was better than any of the guys she dated. Jess may not have been the best guy in the early seasons, but he truly had beautiful development in the end, and proved everyone wrong.

I love this!! 😂😂 Jess was the one she tells her boyfriend not to worry about. Jess is the best! His expressions are the best this show would not be the same without Jess! The irony is Jess is his only real threat, he was the one that broke up the sweethearts, Jess could have destroyed him if he really wanted too, but he was trying to be nice for Rory!
I love how on sight Logan knew Jess could be a romantic threat. He never felt that way about Marty or even Dean, but the moment he saw Jess he could tell that Rory and Jess had a connection and felt threatened. And of course, Jess could have destroyed him in an argument or a fight but he’s matured and is in a good place and won’t sink to that level any more. And Rory knows all of this, but she doesn’t want to be that flighty girl anymore who leaves her long term boyfriend for Jess, even though it would be better for her if she really thought about it. So any layers to this scene
Tbf he comes home sees his gf with some guy who she doesn’t clarify about who he is, he has to invite himself to dinner. In addition to that Jess seemed very hostile from the beginning as well. Like the whole situation was just fishy so jealousy is understandable. Rory kind of treated him very unfair as well.
I think Jess was able to get through to Rory because he was the guy that cut school and barely finished high school and now he’s very accomplished, so it made her look at her life! She was at the DAR and out of school! That wasn’t her and what she wanted to accomplish in her life! If Jess got to accomplish all of that, she needed to wake up!
I agree - Jess was definitely important to her but his words woke her up specifically because they came from someone who achieved something despite lots of challenges (clueless mother, absent father, wasn't allowed to graduate high school, had to leave Luke's house because of it and went on the road when he was only 18). When he told her he wrote a book, her reaction was twofold: she appeared proud of him and disappointed in herself all at the same time.
He also had distance to her, time wise. It made her realize how much she degraded since they had last contact, which is something that she couldn't experience with anyone else. When he goes 'what happened to you??' she realizes how appalled he is because she is barely recognizable anymore and starts to get ashamed a lot.
My favorite Logan moments is when his Dad scolds him and since he lives out of his family's money he has nothing else to do than to shrink his balls Hahahaha
Jess is always the mature one when he's having an arguments with Rory's boyfriends, the boyfriends are the ones usually snapping and feeling threatened it's funny

I literally stopped watching right after Jess left Stars Hallow. I knew how it was gonna end and I didn’t like it. Not just because Jess and Rory didn’t end up together, but I really thought Rory’s character was going to improve. It doesn’t seem as wholesome.
My motivation to keep watching after Jess left is seeing those moments when he was there with context. Just to see how he develops and just to prove to myself that Jess is the best choice
Me too!! I just skipped and skimmed through the rest of the episodes and seasons for luke and lorelai. Jess deserved so much better ❤ even rory didnt deserve him cuz of how she turned out in the later seasons and revival
I feel like Logan acts like he has Rory (&Jess) figured out but Jess lets Rory be herself, they’ve both been there for each other through each other’s ups and downs and I don’t see that ending. I think she could end up re-married like her mom and other people out there.

This scene is why Jess and Rory should end up together. Jess is the only person that can knock some sense into Rory. Even Lorelai couldn't but Jess could. Also, it was clear that Jess was trying not to be super mean to Logan because he knew Rory wouldn't like it. Jess could've been so mean and made fun of Logan so much more than he did easily but he didn't because he cares about Rory. Logan however didn't care, he made fun of Jess and was WAY meaner to Jess and didn't think about how Rory might feel about it, but Jess kept his cool until he had enough of Logan making fun of him and then when he was super mad and couldn't take any more of Logan so he left because he didn't want to be to mean to Logan and possibly hurt Rory's feelings. Also after like 1-2 years of not seeing Rory Jess still remembered her birthday, It's not as important but I think that it proof Jess remembered about Rory and that he still cares about her
Not only that, but Logan and Rory had been together for OVER a year at this point, and he didn’t even know when her birthday was! That’s one of the first, most basic questions you ask someone! Let alone someone you’ve been with for over a year!
Jess is such a sweetheart, you can just tell he grew up out of his punk phase. You can tell because he didn’t start a fight with Logan. If this was 2 years ago he would try to pick a fight or just argue back. Logan is very immature. Team Jess, period. Jess actually genuinely cared for Rory and if something rough was going on he would try to help. Where Logan was like here is some beer, loosen up. Jess is amazing, no one else but Jess. Jess is the only one who knew how to get Rory back on track. Rory only ran back to Jess. She ran back to Jess when she figured out he was in New York, and ran to Jess when she figured out he was having a open book sale or what not. You can just tell they genuinely love eachother and have a connection.
I haven't watched a single full episode of Gilmore girls in my entire life. I weirdly stumbled upon this channel and have been going through all the rory-boyfriend playlists. And I must say Jess was PERFECT for her. Yes he had his flaws but he matured so much and finally made something out of himself despite his crappy home life. He still cares about Rory and made her go back to school. I HATED Rory in the Logan-Rory playlist. Man, I wished Jess-Rory were endgame. But Jess was too good for her. This is my second time going through the Jess playlist. He was the one. Ughhh!!
this should’ve been the end of logan and the beginning of new age jess. even when he was polite logan was a sleeze, but jess knows rory so well and is so right for her, they’re soulmates. i hate that we got so little of them.

Despite everything wrong that went on in their relationship, despite everything Jess had done, this scene (I think) alone proves that he would always be the best match for her in the end. Overall I shipped Rory and Jess over her with Dean and Logan, but once Jess started growing up and maturing, he was exactly what he needed to be for Rory, cause everything else was already there for them: chemistry, things in common, mutual understanding of each other, even trust was kinda there. Jess challenged her and she was always the most herself with him. The only thing that really lacked for them was honesty and healthier communication. Mostly from Jess's end. But again, I'd like to think that breaking up and Jess moving on for a while..while still holding on to his love for Rory, really helped him develop into a better person. After all she was the only one who ever truly loved him for him (besides Luke.) So I think that also eventually motivated him to want to become a better man. One that she could deserve. Along with other reasons of his own. But then by the time he was better, she was losing parts of herself. Which I didn't like. But I'm glad that Jess loved her enough, even in the beginning, to call her out on things and encourage her to be her own person and not throw her dreams away for anyone or to give up on Yale. Anyways, by the series' end, Jess finally was deserving of her and they should've got back together in the last season. If not then, they definitely in the reboot. I will forever think that we were robbed of this endgame.
I think the reason Jess is the one who got through to her is because he wasn't currently in her life at the time, and yet he came in and immediately noticed she wasn't being herself and called her out on it. Plus he's always a straight shooter and calls it like he sees it 😄 gotta love him.
Jess and Luke both flip out when they hear that Rory left school. They know her well enough to understand how much of a derailment that is for her life. They both can't accept this.
I hate when people take out their frustrations on Rory's character about her becoming a more complex character. Jess is not too good for Rory. Rory is not too good for Jess. They are extremely evenly matched. They met really young and both equally contribute to the instability in their connection. They're kids. It seems like a lot of people want there to be completely good and completely bad characters and that's not the case. She's human- she is a mix, like most people. Jess gets to be that and gets praised. It's sexist. I agree that this scene shows why they should be together. No one can see through her BS and straight to her soul like him. He's literally the only person outside herself who understands who she really is and can reality check her. No man in Rory's life would ever hold back on Logan like he did, because he sensed it would upset Rory and cared more about that than anything. Logan tried to trap him into looking bad and failed! Jess is reminding her here that they still have a soul connection that will stay alive until both are fully prepared to try for real as mature adults, and actually have a chance of lasting. He sees it's not time. He knows she is putting effort into practicing loyalty, emotional availability, and not bailing when things are tough. He knows that her new relationship has more to teach her about herself. It's better she practice on someone less significant to her life. Even if he's standing right in front of her, he understands she has to mature to achieve any form of lasting love one day, and that he would benefit from doing the same. He shows her how much respect for that he has even if it's not what he wants to hear in the moment. It's never goodbye for them- always see you later.
There are debates about Team Dean, Team Jess, or Team Logan, but Rory didn't need to be in a relationship. She can't maintain relationships because she needs to communicate better with her partners. She needs to figure out herself and take care of herself before committing to a romantic relationship.
Jess wants Rory to pick him just by his presence and talking to her. He's not trying to be the wedge that's actively trying to break up her current relationship.

i keep thinking about how ironic it is lorelai hated jess for rory the most back in season 3 and if she knew that jess was the reason rory faced reality and went back to yale, she probably would start liking him. It's a shame they didn't try the relationship back up again.

I just watched the SERIES, PLUS A YEAR IN THE LIFE, what saddens me NO one knew plus RORY never gave him the CREDIT, for being the one TWICE for making her go back to YALE, and making her realize she can write a book she and her Mom.I HATED HOW IT ENDED, She should've ended with JESS.
I think this scene is interesting bc Rory has her past self and present self in clash, Logan is a good bf but represents different values she embraced but doesn't accept it yet
Whilst Logan was super annoying here I guess I can kinda understand he's likely just being a little protective of Rory - from his perspective he arrived and suddenly saw some other guy who wanted to spend time with his (first proper) girlfriend, and finds out they had a history together at least. Doesn't make it okay but I can kinda get it But it's fine because I'm always team Jess LOL 👏🏼
yeah my thoughts exactly, he was just being protective of Rory, I mean he has a right to because she's his gf after all, so I think people's hate for Logan in this scene is a little overblown. But yeah also Jess is so great in this scene. :D
i personally think that if Logan hadn’t come into town that night, Rory and Jess would have probably at least kissed. so i get that he was being jealous. but this was too much, he insulted him the WHOLE time for what, being her ex? if he wanted to keep an eye on the situation he could have easily done that by just sitting there with them but letting Rory and him catch up and being a decent human being and having a polite conversation with him. u cannot justify his actions because of jealousy. he was being a jerk. (i still really like logan tho, but this scene really didn’t rub me the right way)
I don't think the problem was that he was being standoffish and rude. That was understandable but literally his entire attack on Jess was that he wasn't rich and successful. Like those things were so important. He was talking down to Jess because he thought that not having as much money made Jess inferior.

I'm surprised that Jess of all people would be the one to convince Rory to go back to Yale. She was already told multiple times to go back by her mom, Paris and Logan. She wouldn't listen to either of them, but she'd listen to Jess who ironically was very much the same in season 2
We all know that only Jess could make her return to Yale in that time and so does she. Rory got comfortable and maybe she tried to show to Logan that she is able to just hanging around but here comes Jess to wake her up with his character and also with his accomplishments.

As a person who kind of liked Rory and Logan because of how he encouraged her out of her comfort zone, I prefer Jess. He challenges her too and after the revival my opinion of him is solid….. he’s the Luke to her Lorelai while Logan is her Christopher…..
Unlike any of her boyfriends, Jess is the only one who actually talked sense into Rory. Jess is not perfect, but in this scene it shows that he actually cares about Rory.

Yes that's because he is the one for her! She is a mess without him she was herself with him, with Logan she was always trying to fit into his world, and be somebody she wasn't. Jess is her other half after he left she became a mess, and took the exact same path Jess was on before, he was the only one who could get her back on track because he was the one for her, he knew from day one she was the one for him, and he never had to cheat on his wife with her either, instead he cleaned up his act, and turned his life around all because of her, they needed each other they were just in different places in their lives, but she only listened to him because he motivated her, Jess is the one for her! She loved Logan, but even in the end she couldn't marry him, because Jess was truly the one for her! Jess was always coming into her life at different times, and there were reasons for that he waited on her for so long, and in the last season with Logan it was all Lust, Jess motivated her then too, and encouraged her to write a book, and she did, they alway saved a look just for each other!
Rory did have a point, Jess didn’t know what it was like. She could’ve been easily having a mental breakdown, Logan was the only one who could see it and that’s why he didn’t pressure her into going back to school. He knew Rory needed to make her own decisions, she was 21 not 5

He was the only one that could get her back on track because they were each others other half! He was a mess before, and then she took the exact same journey as Jess did, she lost herself when he left, because they belonged to each other! She was lost without him that's why she started messing up her life after he left, and he was the only one who could motivate her to get back on her feet not even her mom her best friend could get her back on her feet, or even Logan. He did really grow up, and mature, and he turned his life around, and cleaned up his act because of her. He still waited for her all those years though, because like he said he knew from the first moment he saw her they were supposed to be together, but even though he loved her he still let her go be with Logan, before he would have just broke them up like he did with her, and Dean, but he matured so much!

So what if they used to date and Logan is a little jealous. That certainly wasn't nice and shame on Logan for assuming Jess was dumb and not well-read.
This is why jess is the guy for rory. Regardless of how sweet logan may have been at times, he was an absolute jerk ESPECIALLY in this scene, and didn't deserve rory. Jess was the only person who really got through to rory. She was a college-dropout living at her grandparents, until jess told her off. Then all of a sudden, she's going back to Yale. Hmmm coincidence? Literati is and always will be my lane for exactly this reason. Jess knew her better than anyone, and was better than any of the guys she dated. Jess may not have been the best guy in the early seasons, but he truly had beautiful development in the end, and proved everyone wrong.

I love how on sight Logan knew Jess could be a romantic threat. He never felt that way about Marty or even Dean, but the moment he saw Jess he could tell that Rory and Jess had a connection and felt threatened. Tbf he comes home sees his gf with some guy who she doesn’t clarify about who he is, he has to invite himself to dinner. In addition to that Jess seemed very hostile from the beginning as well. Like the whole situation was just fishy so jealousy is understandable. Rory kind of treated him very unfair as well.
I think Jess was able to get through to Rory because he was the guy that cut school and barely finished high school and now he’s very accomplished, so it made her look at her life! She was at the DAR and out of school! That wasn’t her and what she wanted to accomplish in her life! If Jess got to accomplish all of that, she needed to wake up!
I agree - Jess was definitely important to her but his words woke her up specifically because they came from someone who achieved something despite lots of challenges (clueless mother, absent father, wasn't allowed to graduate high school, had to leave Luke's house because of it and went on the road when he was only 18). When he told her he wrote a book, her reaction was twofold: she appeared proud of him and disappointed in herself all at the same time.

I literally stopped watching right after Jess left Stars Hallow. I knew how it was gonna end and I didn’t like it. Not just because Jess and Rory didn’t end up together, but I really thought Rory’s character was going to improve. It doesn’t seem as wholesome.

This scene is why Jess and Rory should end up together. Jess is the only person that can knock some sense into Rory. Even Lorelai couldn't but Jess could. Also, it was clear that Jess was trying not to be super mean to Logan because he knew Rory wouldn't like it. Jess could've been so mean and made fun of Logan so much more than he did easily but he didn't because he cares about Rory. Logan however didn't care, he made fun of Jess and was WAY meaner to Jess and didn't think about how Rory might feel about it, but Jess kept his cool until he had enough of Logan making fun of him and then when he was super mad and couldn't take any more of Logan so he left because he didn't want to be to mean to Logan and possibly hurt Rory's feelings. Also after like 1-2 years of not seeing Rory Jess still remembered her birthday, It's not as important but I think that it proof Jess remembered about Rory and that he still cares about her

Despite everything wrong that went on in their relationship, despite everything Jess had done, this scene (I think) alone proves that he would always be the best match for her in the end. Overall I shipped Rory and Jess over her with Dean and Logan, but once Jess started growing up and maturing, he was exactly what he needed to be for Rory, cause everything else was already there for them: chemistry, things in common, mutual understanding of each other, even trust was kinda there. Jess challenged her and she was always the most herself with him. The only thing that really lacked for them was honesty and healthier communication. Mostly from Jess's end.
But again, I'd like to think that breaking up and Jess moving on for a while..while still holding on to his love for Rory, really helped him develop into a better person. After all she was the only one who ever truly loved him for him (besides Luke.) So I think that also eventually motivated him to want to become a better man. One that she could deserve. Along with other reasons of his own. But then by the time he was better, she was losing parts of herself. Which I didn't like. But I'm glad that Jess loved her enough, even in the beginning, to call her out on things and encourage her to be her own person and not throw her dreams away for anyone or to give up on Yale.
Anyways, by the series' end, Jess finally was deserving of her and they should've got back together in the last season. If not then, they definitely in the reboot. I will forever think that we were robbed of this endgame.
I think the reason Jess is the one who got through to her is because he wasn't currently in her life at the time, and yet he came in and immediately noticed she wasn't being herself and called her out on it. Plus he's always a straight shooter and calls it like he sees it 😄 gotta love him.

I hate when people take out their frustrations on Rory's character about her becoming a more complex character. Jess is not too good for Rory. Rory is not too good for Jess. They are extremely evenly matched. They met really young and both equally contribute to the instability in their connection. They're kids. It seems like a lot of people want there to be completely good and completely bad characters and that's not the case. She's human- she is a mix, like most people. Jess gets to be that and gets praised. It's sexist. I agree that this scene shows why they should be together. No one can see through her BS and straight to her soul like him. He's literally the only person outside herself who understands who she really is and can reality check her. No man in Rory's life would ever hold back on Logan like he did, because he sensed it would upset Rory and cared more about that than anything. Logan tried to trap him into looking bad and failed! Jess is reminding her here that they still have a soul connection that will stay alive until both are fully prepared to try for real as mature adults, and actually have a chance of lasting. He sees it's not time. He knows she is putting effort into practicing loyalty, emotional availability, and not bailing when things are tough. He knows that her new relationship has more to teach her about herself. It's better she practice on someone less significant to her life. Even if he's standing right in front of her, he understands she has to mature to achieve any form of lasting love one day, and that he would benefit from doing the same. He shows her how much respect for that he has even if it's not what he wants to hear in the moment. It's never goodbye for them- always see you later.
There are debates about Team Dean, Team Jess, or Team Logan, but Rory didn't need to be in a relationship. She can't maintain relationships because she needs to communicate better with her partners. She needs to figure out herself and take care of herself before committing to a romantic relationship.

That's because Jess is her other half she became a mess when he left, he is the one for her, she just needed to come to the realization of that. She couldn't even marry Logan because he wasn't the one for her, the revival again she was still a mess with Logan, and it was all lust. Here comes Jess to motivate her again, because he is her other half, he waited on her, meanwhile the other two moved on, and had to cheat with her. Jess knew from day one they were supposed to be together, they saved a look just for each other! She was always trying to be somebody she wasn't with Logan, with Jess she was truly herself with him!
Logan was a bigger jerk than Jess in this scene and I frankly didn't think that was possible
Yo I don’t care what anyway says I am glad to be on team Jess, Logan sure was a relentless prick, even if Dean was in this scene I know he wouldn’t like him either.

As a person who kind of liked Rory and Logan because of how he encouraged her out of her comfort zone, I prefer Jess. He challenges her too and after the revival my opinion of him is solid….. he’s the Luke to her Lorelai while Logan is her Christopher…..

I love Logan but I definitely prefer Jess he is the one.
Unlike any of her boyfriends, Jess is the only one who actually talked sense into Rory. Jess is not perfect, but in this scene it shows that he actually cares about Rory.
