Rory and Jess couldn't have ended up together on screen because then you would immediately think that he's the father of the baby based on the final four words where the creator of the show wanted it to be Logan for things to come full circle/history to repeat itself because he's Rory's version of Christopher meanwhile they kept Jess as Rory's friend who is longing for her the same way Luke always did for Lorelai. Rory needs to take some time to sort herself out, continue writing her book, get through her pregnancy and become comfortable with being a mother before her and Jess could be together because everyone knows that he's it for her. Jess came from a background of a father who deserted him, a mother who was reckless, with numerous boyfriends. They lived in New York, which has a different culture than STARS HOLLOW. Then she tried to give him some advise one night and he told her to mind her own business. That then became a "thing" between them. She was wrong, by not knowing how he was from all of it. And he was wrong for not listening. He was just a kid . Protecting her daughter , I get it, but getting to understand Jess before passing judgement is clearly a better path. Dean showed his true self later, but Jess was upfront from the start. As a father, I would trust the upfront person more. You can work with that. The sneaky guy is the one to watch out for.

I made this post on tumblr once: The thing is.... I think Rory is the first person Jess ever really loved. Before Stars Hollow and before Rory, he never had a safe place to land. He was just a punk ass kid in a leather jacket who was very intellectual but hid it under a facade of the Jess who we first met. Rory broke him out of the shell he was hiding in, brought out his raw and emotional side, saw parts of him no one else had seen before. Which is why she trusted him when no one else did. Rory was exactly what Jess needed, as if fate brought her to him. If he had never came to stay with Luke, he would've never met her, and if he had never met her, he may have never grown into the young man he is today, or written and published a book. Say what you will about Jess, but Rory helped change him for the better. Sure, he was an asshole at times, even towards Rory, but he had never loved someone before and didn't know how to handle it. He had never connected on a personal and emotional level with someone before. Everyone else saw him as a problem, Rory saw him as a person. All those times he left Stars Hollow, he eventually came back, because he left his heart there. It was always Rory from the moment they met. And even all those years later, he still wanted her. Time after time after time. Not to mention Rory and Dean breaking up because she had feelings for Jess, or Rory defending Jess to Lorelai, or Rory going to New York to visit him, among a billion other things. And now here we are, many years later, and who is Rory seen talking to while having a drink? Jess. Of course it's Jess. It's always going to be Jess. It is what it his, him and her.

someone explain to me how jess was so charming and romantic in season 2 and then completely falls flat on his butt in season 3? he got the girl, you'd think he would've done everything to keep her. i chalk it up to bad drama by the writers + jess being so popular they tried to write his backdoor pilot show into the plot. i have no trouble believing jess and rory could've been very happy together.
Because he's all messed up. School was out of control. That why he was having issues with Luke. He's always had issues with everyone else in Stars Hollow. He's always had issues with his parents and himself. He was insecure, couldn't accept Luke's help. He didn't know how to talk to Rory so he just ran away and lost Luke's and Rory's support. They are the only two people that give him stability, comfort, confidence and a sense of self-worth. He figured out lots of his issues. He grew and came back for Rory twice - unsuccessfully. He was immature in the beginning. Now Rory is immature and Jess seems to be doing much better.
The answer to your question has less to do with bad writing and more to do with realism. There are so many men who like jess, fight to get the girl but keeping her after the fact is near impossible Heck Jess even eludes to it during a conversation with Rory where he says that now that he has Rory, he doesn't have to try anymore. It's a painfully real experience. Not to mention all of Jess' issues and faults on top of that
I know this was 2 years ago but anyways😂 it’s because Jess never felt or knew how to love somebody. Rory was his first person who he actually genuinely got a long with and loved, and Rory was someone who actually loved him back for who he was. She didn’t follow the stereotypes, she followed his heart. When he realized and caught up and actually thought about what he was feeling. He got scared and didn’t know how to react to those feelings. He ran away cause he didn’t know how to tell her that he loved her. I think if Jess never lived with Luke, he would have never got his feet back up, and if he never met Rory, he maybe wouldn’t have even got to the point where he was “more” successful then Rory in the future.
@@annestaudacher972 all of that stuff is valid, it's like what does a dog do when it catches its tail, but i feel it happened the way it did because of the backdoor pilot which gave him an excuse to run away again instead of actually working through these problems (on the show). what i'm saying is there's just as easily a version of the story that he listens a bit, maybe messes it up, but gets to make amends. one where he doesn't run away off screen for two seasons, has an actual character arc that preserves his relationship with luke and especially rory, and actually learns on screen instead of just showing up in season 6 randomly a changed man (which was cool, too).

I think we all forget that lorelai had a pretty wild past. I think she thinks that Jess is going to be just like the wild guys from her past and she wants to protect Rory from getting hurt (or pregnant like lorelai did).. That's why she liked dean, thinking that he was the goody guy that would protect Rory... But what she didn't realise (that most of us did) was that Jess was probably the best boyfriend that Rory ever had.. So for me, I can give lorelai some slack for being anti Jess for a while..
That’s the best episode ever!!! Is true i was mad too that she wasn’t able to be at her mom’s graduation, but everyone who claims to be on team Jess had to admit that’s this is one of their bests scenes.
Also Dean took advantage of Rory when she was feeling terrible about Yale. That’s a crap move to pull when you’re single but here he was married to someone else. I feel like in that scene, Rory gets a lot of flak for sleeping with a married man but she wasn’t in a good emotional state at the time; she was fragile and overwhelmed. Shouldn’t the married man be the one to say, “No, you’re not in the right state of mind for us to be doing this. And also, I’m married.”

I don't know a bunch of it seemed really creepy on Jess's part. He lies to Rory constantly. He pushes himself into her house when she is alone even though she is clearly uncomfortable with it. It only works because he is so attractive.

Now I get that she was far from perfect and it was a realistic relationship in the context of their lives. So. If you love the show, I know, it's the best. Five years later you might hate the characters you idealized. From what I see, people project their life experience onto the characters and they get to feel a certain way about the show. But after all, it's just a story, a good one I might say, with many relatable situations and I'd recommend rewatching it.
Noticing how Luke & Jess are actually the same brand of boys. Both rough around the edges, a little too cool for school, intense, their love is quiet, unwavering & they show for every time without being asked.
Correction they had more chemistry in all of these scenes than any scene that she had with Dean or Logan both of those guys were so boring and her relationships with them were just as boring and Dean was possessive and controlling and Logan was manipulative and gaslit her all the time and brought out the worst in her! I just noticed how before they were together they barely touched each other but in those scenes you could still see the connection between them. And once they were together he could not stop showing his affection in a physical way. Which was probably something new to him.
Rory and jess were the perfect example for right person wrong time They met in a time were they both were very confused. I think it's a little bit funny how everybody is painting jess as the bad guy even tho he did the best he could. He was hurt, confused and simply lost when he met rory she inspired him to do better, he knew he hurt her and wanted to change he knew he made a mistake. Rory never admitted that she done wrong too she was ingorant and selfish. She was always craving for more and had this victim complex and no understanding for the feelings of others. Jess taught her a lesson even tho she didn't admit. Don't get me wtong i liked logan but i think she didn't really lovedhim. Tbh i don't think she really loved neither of the boys she dated she was bored and craving for things she can't have. Logan deserved better. She doesn't even know what she wants. He cared about her the most, he called her out when no one else wanted to, he encouraged her to go back to yale, he encouraged her to write a book, and overall, he was the best for her. At first, I liked Dean and not jess because Dean was so sweet and good to her, but then he got way too overprotective, controlling, and overall toxic. I love them as high school sweethearts, but in the end he got toxic, and especially after he married Lindsay. Rory was what Jess needed, to put him on the right path. Jess didn’t want to come to stars Hollow, then after he met Rory, he kept coming back because his heart was still there. When Rory went to Yale, everything started going downhill. Logan was not good for her, he never encouraged her to do the right thing, and all he wanted to do was party. Jess always encouraged her to be the best she could. When she dropped out of Yale, moved in to her grandparents house, Jess was the only one who wanted to call her out. Logan said it was fine because it was “only temporary.”Jess knew Logan wasn’t right for her the second he met him. He called her out, he was the reason she went back to yale. He knew what was the best for her and that was going back to school. Even in the revival, he was still in love with her. we all saw, when he looked through the window after Luke asked him if he was over her. He will always have an ongoing love for Rory and I can’t believe she doesn’t see that. She will always go back to Logan, just like they did in London. The revival Rory made me irritated Because she had a whole boyfriend and she still went back to Logan, Meanwhile Logan was engaged to Odette. They both did their partners dirty, which made me disgusted. If they were really made for each other, Logan would’ve gone against his family, and married Rory, which would’ve made him happy. It’s both of their faults that they aren’t together, because she could’ve said yes to the engagement. I am actually glad that she said no because it was way too early and she didn’t know what she was doing with her life. Logan was rushing their relationship, which turned out to be a bad idea. They had only been dating for 2 to 3 years, and he already proposed. I don’t think he should’ve proposed in front of her grandparents and all of their friends. It was too much for her, to have to make a decision in front of everyone. She was definitely feeling pressured by her grandparents, because she knows that they would’ve wanted her to say yes. I’m glad she said no because she needed to get her life together and figure out what she was doing after college. Jess is TOTALLY her soulmate. Logan is her Christopher and Jess is her Luke. I really hope they make another revival and actually show who she ends up with, hoping it will be jess.

Me too! I hate that he didn't get credit for that. Lorelai and Jess were always at odds with each other, but they wanted the exact same thing for Rory: for her to go back to Yale and do the right thing. They both knew she wasn't on the right path and they didn't like Logan (and let's not forget, they both hated the smell of Indian food lol). Lorelai always felt that Jess was a bad influence on Rory, but he was the one person who convinced her to return to Yale.

Dean showed his true self later, but Jess was upfront from the start. As a father, I would trust the upfront person more. You can work with that. The sneaky guy is the one to watch out for.

The thing is.... I think Rory is the first person Jess ever really loved. Before Stars Hollow and before Rory, he never had a safe place to land. He was just a punk ass kid in a leather jacket who was very intellectual but hid it under a facade of the Jess who we first met. Rory broke him out of the shell he was hiding in, brought out his raw and emotional side, saw parts of him no one else had seen before. Which is why she trusted him when no one else did. Rory was exactly what Jess needed, as if fate brought her to him. If he had never came to stay with Luke, he would've never met her, and if he had never met her, he may have never grown into the young man he is today, or written and published a book. Say what you will about Jess, but Rory helped change him for the better. Sure, he was an asshole at times, even towards Rory, but he had never loved someone before and didn't know how to handle it. He had never connected on a personal and emotional level with someone before. Everyone else saw him as a problem, Rory saw him as a person. All those times he left Stars Hollow, he eventually came back, because he left his heart there. It was always Rory from the moment they met. And even all those years later, he still wanted her. Time after time after time. Not to mention Rory and Dean breaking up because she had feelings for Jess, or Rory defending Jess to Lorelai, or Rory going to New York to visit him, among a billion other things. And now here we are, many years later, and who is Rory seen talking to while having a drink? Jess. Of course it's Jess. It's always going to be Jess. It is what it his, him and her.
This made me cry. Also in a year in the life when Jess is leaving their house, he looks at Rory longingly. There is always something between them. They should’ve ended up together!

Because he's all messed up. School was out of control. That why he was having issues with Luke. He's always had issues with everyone else in Stars Hollow. He's always had issues with his parents and himself. He was insecure, couldn't accept Luke's help. He didn't know how to talk to Rory so he just ran away and lost Luke's and Rory's support. They are the only two people that give him stability, comfort, confidence and a sense of self-worth. He figured out lots of his issues. He grew and came back for Rory twice - unsuccessfully. He was immature in the beginning. Now Rory is immature and Jess seems to be doing much better.

The answer to your question has less to do with bad writing and more to do with realism. There are so many men who like jess, fight to get the girl but keeping her after the fact is near impossible
Heck Jess even eludes to it during a conversation with Rory where he says that now that he has Rory, he doesn't have to try anymore. It's a painfully real experience. Not to mention all of Jess' issues and faults on top of that
I know this was 2 years ago but anyways😂 it’s because Jess never felt or knew how to love somebody. Rory was his first person who he actually genuinely got a long with and loved, and Rory was someone who actually loved him back for who he was. She didn’t follow the stereotypes, she followed his heart. When he realized and caught up and actually thought about what he was feeling. He got scared and didn’t know how to react to those feelings. He ran away cause he didn’t know how to tell her that he loved her. I think if Jess never lived with Luke, he would have never got his feet back up, and if he never met Rory, he maybe wouldn’t have even got to the point where he was “more” successful then Rory in the future.
@@annestaudacher972 all of that stuff is valid, it's like what does a dog do when it catches its tail, but i feel it happened the way it did because of the backdoor pilot which gave him an excuse to run away again instead of actually working through these problems (on the show). what i'm saying is there's just as easily a version of the story that he listens a bit, maybe messes it up, but gets to make amends. one where he doesn't run away off screen for two seasons, has an actual character arc that preserves his relationship with luke and especially rory, and actually learns on screen instead of just showing up in season 6 randomly a changed man (which was cool, too).

I think she thinks that Jess is going to be just like the wild guys from her past and she wants to protect Rory from getting hurt (or pregnant like lorelai did).. So. If you love the show, I know, it's the best. Five years later you might hate the characters you idealized. From what I see, people project their life experience onto the characters and they get to feel a certain way about the show. But after all, it's just a story, a good one I might say, with many relatable situations and I'd recommend rewatching it.

They met in a time were they both were very confused. I think it's a little bit funny how everybody is painting jess as the bad guy even tho he did the best he could. Rory never admitted that she done wrong too she was ingorant and selfish. She was always craving for more and had this victim complex and no understanding for the feelings of others. Jess taught her a lesson even tho she didn't admit. Don't get me wtong i liked logan but i think she didn't really lovedhim. Tbh i don't think she really loved neither of the boys she dated she was bored and craving for things she can't have. Logan deserved better. She doesn't even know what she wants. At first, I liked Dean and not jess because Dean was so sweet and good to her, but then he got way too overprotective, controlling, and overall toxic. I love them as high school sweethearts, but in the end he got toxic, and especially after he married Lindsay. Rory was what Jess needed, to put him on the right path. Jess didn’t want to come to stars Hollow, then after he met Rory, he kept coming back because his heart was still there. When Rory went to Yale, everything started going downhill. Logan was not good for her, he never encouraged her to do the right thing, and all he wanted to do was party. Jess always encouraged her to be the best she could. When she dropped out of Yale, moved in to her grandparents house, Jess was the only one who wanted to call her out. Logan said it was fine because it was “only temporary.”Jess knew Logan wasn’t right for her the second he met him. He called her out, he was the reason she went back to yale. He knew what was the best for her and that was going back to school. Even in the revival, he was still in love with her. we all saw, when he looked through the window after Luke asked him if he was over her. He will always have an ongoing love for Rory and I can’t believe she doesn’t see that. She will always go back to Logan, just like they did in London. The revival Rory made me irritated Because she had a whole boyfriend and she still went back to Logan, Meanwhile Logan was engaged to Odette. They both did their partners dirty, which made me disgusted. If they were really made for each other, Logan would’ve gone against his family, and married Rory, which would’ve made him happy. It’s both of their faults that they aren’t together, because she could’ve said yes to the engagement. I am actually glad that she said no because it was way too early and she didn’t know what she was doing with her life. Logan was rushing their relationship, which turned out to be a bad idea. They had only been dating for 2 to 3 years, and he already proposed. I don’t think he should’ve proposed in front of her grandparents and all of their friends. It was too much for her, to have to make a decision in front of everyone. She was definitely feeling pressured by her grandparents, because she knows that they would’ve wanted her to say yes. I’m glad she said no because she needed to get her life together and figure out what she was doing after college.

I know people hated the revival, but I think Rory’s end was a great setup for them as endgame. He’s loved her through every season of life and she was always his friend believing in the best of him even when there was no best. I think it will be what pushes them together. He’s her Luke
I think having Jess taking care of Rory’s child with Logan is fucked up. He really doesn’t deserve that. Rory has fucked up her own life so hard, she’s not the same girl she was.
She doesn’t deserve Jess’ undying love, she’s not the girl he fell in love with at all anymore. She’d probably cheat on him and do stupid selfish things.
We all loved teenage Rory with Jess, that girl deserves him. He deserves to move on now.

I feel like we never talk about the fact that Jess was the reason Rory went back to Yale. Also I always wished thier was a scene where Loralie found out that Jess was the reason Rory went back to school.
Me too! I hate that he didn't get credit for that. Lorelai and Jess were always at odds with each other, but they wanted the exact same thing for Rory: for her to go back to Yale and do the right thing. They both knew she wasn't on the right path and they didn't like Logan (and let's not forget, they both hated the smell of Indian food lol). Lorelai always felt that Jess was a bad influence on Rory, but he was the one person who convinced her to return to Yale.
