Oh my god! I love this video! I am a biologist and I watch so many videos related to skincare because I really want to understand how actives or in general skincare works. This is the only video that helped me connect the dots. Now the retinoid picture is much more clear to me. Thanks a lot for this video.

Would love to see a video specifically on prescription retinoids especially the Altreno you’re using and how you’re liking it! Thank you for all your wisdom! ☺️
Yes, please! My questions include..Do we use Azelaic acid, and if so is over the counter fine? Is metronidazole effective for people prone to flushing and visible capillaries? What do you think about Apostrophe and Curology?
@@jarielisgarcia8916 I use azelaic acid gel 15% (prescription) and it has worked really well. I have mild rosacea with no breakouts... it's really helped with the redness and flushing. It is pricey ($130 with insurance) however I started the first tube in late November and finished it on Feb 10. A little goes a long way! Hope she talks about it at some point.
I love love love this video! I’ve been using Tretinoin 0.25% for a year and 2 months now. I love the effects of it and how it has helped tame my acne and in effect my skin overall. Got a lot of compliments with of how my skin “glows”. Also, consistency is truly the key ❤️❤️❤️
Can we have a videos about skincare before and after workouts in the middle of the day? How it effects the morning and night time skin care routines? ❤️🌤️😎
Dr. Idriss is love! Me and my mom started the journey of tretinoin (0.025%) and I love it. It's been only 8 days but I could see very little amount of purging which isn't even noticable. My skin has lesser acne, and it's gotten smoother and plumper that before. I apply only a pea size amount and I am not going to rush. Another thing Dr. Idriss advised was Minoxidil 5% for hair growth and slowly but surely I am seeing my hair is growing back. This lovely doctor not only stopped me from using tonnes of expensive useless products but also helped me educate myself better about my skin. Thank you Dr. Idriss, you're a best friend I never had! I showed your video to a friend of mine and he is obsessed with your channel. Kinda has harmless crush on you.
I'm 56 and found you a few weeks ago. Sure wish I found you 10 years ago, but hey, it's never too late. Thank you for these clear and concise videos. Already changed my life. :-)
Oh my gosh acutane is a retinoic acid. Of course it is. 16 year old didn’t think about that. But here I am 10 years later wishing I had the skin I did when I was taking it! I know not everyone has the same experience, but I glowed. It was amazing and I need to get back to that!
Questions that could be a part of your topics; 1-Are pore vacuums effective for blackheads? 2- What products are helpful for burnt scars? 3- What should be done to reduce cellulite? 4-Do sunscreens cause acne( I am having this problem all the time whenever i put on sunscreen) 5- What are the benefits of bepanthol( It is commonly used in Turkey and advised by dermatologists) Thank you for your videos, they are great sources for me as an 37 years old person:)
Been wishing for you to make a video on my favourite topic at present : RETINOIDS, and here it is!!😃😃 Thank you Dr. Shereen Idriss ❤❤❤ P. S. I love you 😘 🙏 From India 🇮🇳

First of all, I love when you bust out the textbook! Thanks again for an amazing video with true evidence-based medicine. I appreciate you addressing darker skin tones!
You can get Trentinoin through Curology as well. It is still in prescription form because you are assigned a Derm online through Curology. That's how I get my Trentinoin. I started at the lowest grade and have gone up. 01%. I have zero irritation but my skin was used to Adapalene gel and stronger retinols before using Trentinoin.
Great video, thank you!!!! 😊 please talk about eyelash serums🙏 (I am using one, but recently I started hearing that they could damage your eyes. Now I am hesitant to continue using the serum) it would be great if you could explain to us how they work.
I finally understand what retinol is, and where to start. I think this is such an extensive video and the best explanation from all the videos that I've watched so far. ❤
Ma'am, please slam the table *as hard as you need it to be* because it IS annoying to get the wrong idea of retinoids and hear false info being spread around. You are doing god's work and I love it ❤️❤️❤️ EDIT: About Cerave's Resufacing Retinol, I've heard that it's been formulated with 0.3% of retinol. Although it's kind of questionable that that is not stated on the packaging itself.
Happy Lunar New Year from Vietnam, Dr. Shereene Idriss ! I started my skincare routine quite late, just last Fall when the pandemic started to give me more and more "masknes". Haven't embarked on my adventure with Retinoids yet, but I've been researching. And gotta say, your video is the most educational and easy to understand one that i've watched so far. Rarely comment on youtube, but just wanna say thank you, from the other side of the globe!
Dr. Shereene you are the best advertisement for your channel. Your skin is beautiful; clear, luminous and healthy looking. It helps a lot to see what you do and what you don't do. Thanks!!
I watched many videos about retinol because I was so confused and the way you explained finally made sense so thank you! I am going to include retinol in my skincare and now I am actually excited and looking forward to it so thank you!
Is it possible for you to make a video dedicated to controlling oil production/oily skin? I'm on 0.1 tret and I swear I STILL PRODUCE ENOUGH OIL THAT I COULD DEEP FRY SOMETHING... 😭😭😭Thank you!!! Your videos have easily become my favourite for skincare
Geek&Gorgous also has a retinal serum (in two strenghts: 0.05% and 0.1%) and it is my favourite! It is also quite affordable (€12.50 and €18.50, respectively), compared to Avene and Glytone. They are from Hungary and ship internationally!
I would really appreciate a video about fungal acne. Ingredients to avoid, treatments, and appropriate products to incorporate in skin care routine. Please and thank you in advance.
I've heard that thing about not doing strong actives in the summer here in Northern Europe too. Doctors also used to say to avoid surgery in summer as well, unless it's an emergency - something about wounds healing worse when it's warm 🙂
I find the Augustinus Bader (the rich cream is 265$) line is as overrated as La Mer (crème de la mer is 345$) and if it's becoming a "cult" product it's thanks to their PR (it's no coincidence you've been seeing it in all these models/celebs skincare routine). I tried both and they did nothing a cheaper cream wouldn't do. I am now using retin A with a prescription. I really liked the A313 if you've never tried retinol before like Dr Idriss suggests it's great as an entry/starter step to Retinol. All that to say don't ruin yourself on overpriced creams, there are much cheaper and more effective products out there.
Thank you Dr. Idriss for such helpful and educational content. What happens after your skin gets acclimated to a higher and higher concentration of retinol? What if I stop using it at this point? Does the skin build a dependence on it? Also, what other ingredients (other than retinols) would you recommend for anti-aging? It would be great if you could do a skincare routine for people in their 30's or 40's :)
Such a great video - thank you! One thing, in case you're not aware, for people in the UK... Any 'buy' link that goes to Sephora is automatically redirected to the French Sephora HOME page (as Sephora isn't available in the UK, or quite a few EU companies). Not a biggie to find an alternative place to make a purchase but if the full product name isn't listed in the description box, the product page is completely lost by the redirect. I'd also rather make sure you can get referral commission when I enviably buy something you've helped me research! 🥰
Thank you so much for the guide! Maybe you could make a video explaining integration of the « retinoid routine » into the usual daycare routine. Meaning Can we apply serums/creams on top of the retinoid product? Can we apply vit.C in the morning? Ceramides? Peptides? Etc. Thank you sooooo much
Just a minor correction: Augustinian Bader the rich cream does not contain any retinol esters but The Cream does. The link you provided is for the rich cream.

My Bioderm Micellar water arrives today from Amazon! Be well and thank you!
I really appreciate that you made seeing a dermatologist much more assessable. In the sense that you answer many of the questions that I would have had for a dermatologist. I was able to completely treat my acne from your videos!!! Education is key!
My new sunday morning routine: attending dr. Shereene’s class. And don’t forget to take notes you guys.
Thank you for educating us and makes it easier to understand by using funny analogies 👏
The moment I have been waiting for. Finally a product I can buy in Europe. 👏🇫🇷🇪🇺
A313 here I come. 🙂
It's REALLY good!
Please please pleaseeee do something on female hair loss esp into 30s and how to battle that when blood tests (pending female hormonal panel) have ruled out any deficiencies
Please!
Look up methyl sulfonyl methane (MSM)/organic sulfur, better absorbed with vitamin C.
Have you looked into your thyroid gland and if the levels are normal?
“Sorry for those of you who don’t like it when I hit the desk.” We love it when you hit the desk.
I also cast my vote for seeing a video on micro needling. I got it done professionally and I’m having a weird texture reaction? I’d love to know if I’m just crazy. Thanks Shereene!
YES!! THANK YOU SO MUCH TALKING ABOUT RETINOIDS!! I WAS ASKING ABOUT IT IN YOUR PAST VIDEOS!!
I got you!!
Oh my god! I love this video! I am a biologist and I watch so many videos related to skincare because I really want to understand how actives or in general skincare works. This is the only video that helped me connect the dots. Now the retinoid picture is much more clear to me. Thanks a lot for this video.
leesa kamaru
I would love to see videos on keratosis pilaris and ways to help, strawberry leg treatment, and ways to help prevent or lessen spider veins. Thank you for sharing all of your knowledge and making these videos! ❤️
Would love to see a video specifically on prescription retinoids especially the Altreno you’re using and how you’re liking it! Thank you for all your wisdom! ☺️
I swear I am truly in love with your personality, you are SO REAL and educated at the same time, YES, YES, YES!
A313 only contains retinyl palmitate now. The older formulation (discontinued) contained all three retinyl esters
Could you please do a video for all the rosacea victims 🥲
I laugh so hard at -> “victims”. You got it right !!!
Could you do a video about product layering, especially with actives? Like what a few hypothetical AM & PM routines could look like perhaps?
She does have it dear😘
May be one year old!
Great comment. I agree
I'm 56 and found you a few weeks ago. Sure wish I found you 10 years ago, but hey, it's never too late. Thank you for these clear and concise videos. Already changed my life. :-)
Would love if you could do a deep dive into whether to choose adapalene or tretinoin for a given skinconcern.
Oh my gosh acutane is a retinoic acid. Of course it is. 16 year old didn’t think about that. But here I am 10 years later wishing I had the skin I did when I was taking it! I know not everyone has the same experience, but I glowed. It was amazing and I need to get back to that!
first thing this Saturday morning I'm awake and learning with Shereene! I'm a cosmetic RN and I always learn so much from your videos. Thank you!
Questions that could be a part of your topics;
1-Are pore vacuums effective for blackheads?
2- What products are helpful for burnt scars?
3- What should be done to reduce cellulite?
4-Do sunscreens cause acne( I am having this problem all the time whenever i put on sunscreen)
5- What are the benefits of bepanthol( It is commonly used in Turkey and advised by dermatologists)
Thank you for your videos, they are great sources for me as an 37 years old person:)
your personality is so charming and your videos are so informative and interesting! love from canada
😍😍❤️ thank you!!!!
Retinol didn't get rid of my skincare problems but it sure kept them at bay and I saw quite a difference in texture and appearance.
Been wishing for you to make a video on my favourite topic at present : RETINOIDS, and here it is!!😃😃
Thank you Dr. Shereen Idriss ❤❤❤
P. S. I love you 😘 🙏
From India 🇮🇳
Wish and you shall receive my friend 🙌❤️
@@shereeneidriss Amen 🙏✨
I just really love how you explain so enthusiastically pretty much everything. I look forward to your videos. And if you have products in development, can’t wait. I trust you. Thank you for everything you do. 🧡🧡
First of all, I love when you bust out the textbook! Thanks again for an amazing video with true evidence-based medicine.
I appreciate you addressing darker skin tones!
I’d love your thoughts on bakuchiol vs retinoids!! Thank you for this info!
Would love a video on what to address first when you have multiple things you want to deal with. I.E. skin elasticity, wrinkles & melasma
She: "people in Brazil..."
Me, living in Brazil: "yes, me, rigth here"
💚💚💚
Same here!
Actually, I was like 'did she really say Brazil?!' So I went back a little just to make sure I wasn't crazy...hahaha 💚💛
omg I'm early! Hi doc can you do a video about acne scars please 💕?
Noted
You can get Trentinoin through Curology as well. It is still in prescription form because you are assigned a Derm online through Curology. That's how I get my Trentinoin. I started at the lowest grade and have gone up. 01%. I have zero irritation but my skin was used to Adapalene gel and stronger retinols before using Trentinoin.
Great video, thank you!!!! 😊 please talk about eyelash serums🙏 (I am using one, but recently I started hearing that they could damage your eyes. Now I am hesitant to continue using the serum) it would be great if you could explain to us how they work.
Yes please!
I personally LOVE the A313! It is very strong actually! I have found that it’s stronger than other retinoids!
I agree!
I’m pretty new to the channel but I love your no nonsense personality!! I can tell you’re an amazing doctor
You are doing god's work and I love it ❤️❤️❤️
EDIT: About Cerave's Resufacing Retinol, I've heard that it's been formulated with 0.3% of retinol. Although it's kind of questionable that that is not stated on the packaging itself.
LOL thank you!
@@shereeneidriss OMG you're welcome 😂😂😂
This chic cracks me up. Half the reason I watch is her funny way of doing things. Keep up the good work!
Happy Lunar New Year from Vietnam, Dr. Shereene Idriss
Thanks!!
“You are on the irritating and potent side” hahaha love the realness in your videos.
LOL
I watched many videos about retinol because I was so confused and the way you explained finally made sense so thank you! I am going to include retinol in my skincare and now I am actually excited and looking forward to it so thank you!
Dem when you bring out the book, I have heart palpitation out of excitement. Yea the nerd force is strong in me
Is it possible for you to make a video dedicated to controlling oil production/oily skin? I'm on 0.1 tret and I swear I STILL PRODUCE ENOUGH OIL THAT I COULD DEEP FRY SOMETHING... 😭😭😭Thank you!!! Your videos have easily become my favourite for skincare
Love how your husband shows up in most of your videos 😂😂😂
Loo
Geek&Gorgous also has a retinal serum (in two strenghts: 0.05% and 0.1%) and it is my favourite! It is also quite affordable (€12.50 and €18.50, respectively), compared to Avene and Glytone. They are from Hungary and ship internationally!
Are you still using it?
@@rora1435I am! Still recommend!
We use mostly retinoic acid (tretinoin) here in Brazil, because you can buy without a presciption and is also very cheap.
You can buy most things without a prescription in Brazil, right? 🤣
@@Persefone94 not really..
WHERE DID YOU GET THE SWEATER? It's the only thing missing from my life.
Would love a video about face masks or one about hair health!
I believe everything u say cus she is stunning and her skin is to die for😭💗
Oh!! I am so happy about this video! Just the right moment.
Did you get the answer to this question? I'm wondering about it too
Such a great video - thank you!
Please make a video on rosacea and seborrheic dermatits
On it
^^^thiss my boyfriend has both these and is not big on going to the doctor, would love to help him
I would love to see a video of skin care by age range, such as 30s, 40s,50s & 60s. Or a Video of antiaging. TY Love all the information :)
PLEASEEEEEE! Do a video talking about nuface and radiofrecuency:)
Thank you so much for the guide! Maybe you could make a video explaining integration of the « retinoid routine » into the usual daycare routine. Meaning Can we apply serums/creams on top of the retinoid product? Can we apply vit.C in the morning? Ceramides? Peptides? Etc. Thank you sooooo much
I love how enthusiastic you are about skin! Thank you, I love the energy you bring while being greatly informative ❤️
Just a minor correction: Augustinian Bader the rich cream does not contain any retinol esters but The Cream does. The link you provided is for the rich cream.
Please make a video on back acne, acne on the back. I’ve had it since 15 years ago, not one day have I had a clear back since then. Thank you in advance.
Consider an elimination diet. My son had them all over his back. When he changed his diet they decreased and went away.
The Cerave SA cleanser helped clear mine! Hydroquinone helped with the blemishes.
@@NadiaDakroub I’m a vegan. I eat very clean. I’ve had them since I was a teen, I’m in my 30’s. So I guess more than 15 years. I’ve tried different things and never helped.
@@swabrren what’s hydroquinone? Which products do you recommend?
@@kita3256 I know you didn’t me lol, but hydroquinone is a very strong skin bleaching agent, to put it in a nutshell
"Ascorbic acid is like Scorpio in your life and retinoids are like Taurus in your life, strong and steady, they don't like you deviate from your path and they become aggressive when you do". And free radicals are crazy Gemini!! Dr. Idriss I love you!
Enjoyed this lecture. Im glad you really dont have a cancel culture mentality but more of what it is you recommend for a certain demographic. Keep it up 😊
I really enjoy your videos. I would like a simple skincare routine for a woman in her 50's. Like what would be the top 3 products a woman should use...keeping it not super costly. Thank you. Stay well
Such a good video!! I love when your family pops in ♥️ I also love how informational your videos are. Thank you 🦋💕
You're the best! I love how real you are and how you lay it all out in an easy-to-digest manner. Would loooove to see a Perioral Dermatitis video. Know a lot of us suffer from it and it's such a tricky/sneaky condition...
I currently use the skinceuticals 0.5, thank you for educating us on retinoids!
Another informative content. Been following you Doc and always truly in awe whenever you explain such terms in simple yet creative manner. Kudos to skin care education 👏👏👏
Thank you for your videos! I've learned so much during this year. I was wondering about microcurrent devices: the science behind what they do, their efficacy, target audience, brand/type recommendations. I used to assume they were more novelty than actually effective, but then I saw you use one in a video. Thank you!
It's hard to find such clarity and knowledge. Thank you for your openness, Dr. Shereene
I would love to know more about micro needling and what it can be used for? Love your videos!! ❤️
I'm almost 51 and have recently started getting it done. I've noticed a HUGE change in the texture and plumpness of my skin. It's been amazing!
Today, I went back to this absolutely perfect video to re-solidify my knowledge. Thank you so much. I appreciate you so much and also have enjoyed your Major Fade products. I don’t get hyperpigmentation but I wanted to try your products anyway to experience them and support you. Thanks for all that you do.
Please do a video on “orange peel” skin and how to treat it. This happened to me after using retinoids for 2 weeks and my skin is still not back to normal. Pores are huge!
How long has it been since you used retinoids? I think even I'm prone to getting orange peel skin. I instantly reduced the usage when I started noticing larger pores.
It’s been a year since I used retinoids and the orange peel skin is still there but it’s slowly healing. I don’t know how to get rid of it.
Am absolutely in love with your sweater!!
Your eyes are so beautiful! Like your videos a lot, very helpful
Thank you so much!
The BEST explanation on this subject. Have been using Differin for years but am now going to use something else. Possibly Avene or SkinCeuticals. Still thinking about this. Also, you should know that the Glytone has been discontinued according to the website link.
