Those overtones, tho...#goosebumps And how about the chord progression in the tag? Holds true to the original score, and they totally nailed it. Wow...
oh my god. I love phantom of the opera and always have done from a young age and music of the night is my ultimate favourite song of all time. this is one of the best perfeormances of music of the night :,) absolutely stunning!
I love Tim, but this one is all about Chris and Eric. When their voices blend, it's like melting chocolate, and it gives me goosebumps. When Chris nails those really low notes, something in my chest vibrates. Holy cow.
You really think so? I think it's beautiful. It's a really intriguing, well-crafted and well-performed interpretation, in my opinion. They did a great job of reinventing it while keeping the same beautiful, gentle quality of it. I love it!
They've been singing it for at least two years for sure. But @TheM3talH3ad1 if you want to hear a studio version, Gas House Gang has it on their CD: "A Little Night Music"
I've always loved the ending of this song. The madness of the Phantom is revealed in those last few chord progressions. So dissonant, it shouldn't work, but it does.
These guys were the featured group at a barbershop camp I went to, really cool, the tenor, Tim Waurick does his own barbershop songs in the studio, with him singing every part. Every. Part.
The lead (eric) has a unique tone and blend that takes a while to get accustomed to. If you listen to vocal spectrum enough, you'll be able to pick him out
For those of you who would like to know more about the song "music of the night", it was composed by Andrew Lloyd Webber as a Broadway tune and it was one of his best pieces. The song originally wasn't written for the play "phantom of the opera" but it was added in as a draft piece thus it became "music of the night."
I LOVE this song! And I LOVE Vocal Spectrum!! My only critique is I can't hear the words the Lead is singing at the start of the song; since the other parts drown him out; but otherwise the song is perfect!
I had to force myself to stop singing so I could hear them, though...hehe. I agree, the lead singer could have been louder. He was closer to the mic than the outer singers yet you could hear them just fine. It's more of a projection issue than placement. Choir nerd moment over! Very beautifully done, I was duely impressed! It picked up on all the major parts of the song rather than simply the melody, which I enjoyed. That and it's MotN, and I'm obsessed with PotO...so that definitely helped! :P
I really love this song, and especially this arrangement. My only complaint is the balance seems a little off in some times. The background chords sometimes overpower the lead vocals, but that is me being very nitpicky.
ipvideogames a fair observation I would say. It's still really good though, but it distracted me slightly. ;) I find myself coming back to Vocal Spectrum recordings again and again.
Don't judge the balance based on this recording. I think Eric's strength is compatible with the quartet overall. I have seen them perform numerous times and don't think balance is an issue for them.
Hey Vocal Spectrum fans. I'm relatively new to these gentlemen but they are amazing. I saw on one of their other video's that these men are Christians? Is this true? Also I notice that all 4 men have a medallion around their necks. Anyone seen them live or heard what they are? I've seen that the men wear these during all of their performances. Thanks to anyone who can fill me in.
FishHunter Hey, man. Did anyone ever reply to your question from years ago? The medallions are their gold medals from Barbershop Harmony Society’s international contest, which they won in 2006 (held in Indianapolis). It is tradition for gold medalists to wear their medals for performances. I hope this helps!
the tune in the begining is the same intro as in point of no return. webber uses the same device musically to introduce both pieces. you were right to recognize that.
A lot of people do that, you should check out trudbol (Julien Neel) or daniscool99 (Danny Fong) or danwright32 or vanceperry, they all do multi-track recordings. I mean, obviously, Tim's a beast, but these guys are all great musicians!
I can't get over this. I must have been watching this on repeat for the last 30 minutes. It's so good.
Oh my gosh. Vocal Spectrum + Phantom Of The Opera = Gorgeous.
5:27 that 9th is actually perfection. Wow
I cannot stop watching this. so beautiful
funny... I think I just said that about your version of "Believe"
This is so beautiful! I love this one and the Aladdin medley.
+Cameron Offutt eh more along the lines of when i see an elephant fly
Those overtones, tho...#goosebumps
And how about the chord progression in the tag? Holds true to the original score, and they totally nailed it. Wow...
That. Bass. Oh my gawd. Beautiful arrangement, and spectacular performance!
My chorus (Oregon Trail Pitchpipers) are rehearsing this song for our 50th anniversary show A Salute to Broadway Feb18.
SO GOOD!! Every chord = perfection, smashing baritone!
Can't wait to see these guys in summer in Toronto :D
The way it resolved into that last chord... shivers. all over.
I'm speechless, this was absolutely astonishing.
Nothing can beat a great tenor or bass :)
They just happen to have both :)
oh my god. I love phantom of the opera and always have done from a young age and music of the night is my ultimate favourite song of all time. this is one of the best perfeormances of music of the night :,) absolutely stunning!
This is music how it was meant to be done, plain and simple. 10/10 freakin unbelievable.
David Wright's arrangements (even gems back from 1989 like this one) never cease to amaze! Brilliant performance by the VS per usual:)
LOVE YOU ALL...!!!!! Wonderful job on this beautiful song. LOVE DAT BASS...!!!!!
don't get tired listening to this! They do such a great job!
Beautiful. Outstanding breath control!
Courtney W Makes me wish I wouldn't have to worry about costs of private singing lessons to learn that properly. :)
Wonderful , so good that I cried tears of joy. One of my favorite songs. Thank You: Steve
I'm not sure I've ever heard a better open 5th than I have between Chris and Jonny
my god....my quartet just mastered go the distance..and i stumble upon this treasure?! REHEARSEL BOYS!!!!
Simply sublime. If you're ever in Ireland, I'll be in that audience.
Of all things Musical, Vocals have always been my Fav.. and THIS!! WoW!! Amazing! Brings it all from deep down! Please keep it going Gentlemen!!
WOW!!! Talking about chills going up my spine .... some of those augmented chords are just awesome!!!
I want to like this a thousand times!
Unbelievable. Every chord was perfection.
So. Many. Goosebumps. Amazing!
I heard of them before I heard a lot of their songs this one is my big time favorite XD
Words fail me.This is so magical.
truly stunning. beautiful in every way. such pitch perfect accuracy, control, dynamics and gosh... everything..
"WOOOOOOOO-" at the end was perfect
So many goosebumps
This is a wonderful way to sing this, I'm so happy they didn't ruin the song :D
good god, that was the most beautiful thing i ever heard
stunning and beautiful. grabs your emotions with the most warm and tender chords and the tag, well fantastic!
I love Tim, but this one is all about Chris and Eric. When their voices blend, it's like melting chocolate, and it gives me goosebumps. When Chris nails those really low notes, something in my chest vibrates. Holy cow.
They way they ended that piece was simply...amazing. Nothing else...
That is the most beautiful thing I've set heard :) it is beautiful

So awesome that even a herd of cows came to listen, you can hear one of them cheering at the end.
These guys were the featured group at a barbershop camp I went to, really cool, the tenor, Tim Waurick does his own barbershop songs in the studio, with him singing every part. Every. Part.
Wow, they are fantastic!
thx for posting this beautiful piece of music!
Completely amazing.
The lead (eric) has a unique tone and blend that takes a while to get accustomed to. If you listen to vocal spectrum enough, you'll be able to pick him out
that was amazing but that switch to the minor chord at 6:10 completely blew my mind!!!! incredible!!!
i LOVE this so much

2:33--whoa! He sang some extremely difficult stuff for sixteen seconds without a breath. Amazing!
When you are listening to barbershop/a cappella and forget that there is no orchestra behind them, that's good singin'
wow ... I love it
Totally awesome!
simply awesome
AMAZING!!!!!!
Wow. Great control and intonation.
AMAZING.
I LOVE this song! And I LOVE Vocal Spectrum!! My only critique is I can't hear the words the Lead is singing at the start of the song; since the other parts drown him out; but otherwise the song is perfect!
Amazing!!!
Met Eric and Tim, got to chill with them and go swimming with em. They're super chill and really fun to harmonize with!
Magnificent.
This is some kind of special
Anyone else find it appropriate that Eric is singing this? Eric? Get it? :D
@terfone16 awesome, thanks!
my ears just came. which i guess is appropriate cuz this song is intended to be seductive in a sense ;)
I saw this at this years convention and I cried
I had to force myself to stop singing so I could hear them, though...hehe. I agree, the lead singer could have been louder. matrix86 Did you hear them live? Maybe it's different than on UA-cam for some reason? :)
Don't judge the balance based on this recording. I think Eric's strength is compatible with the quartet overall. I have seen them perform numerous times and don't think balance is an issue for them.
ipvideogames Yep. Except when the bass has the melody
goosebumps in my ears

The whole song was incredible, but 5:49 to the end...omg.

I like the lead's voice the best
the tune in the begining is the same intro as in point of no return. webber uses the same device musically to introduce both pieces. you were right to recognize that.
3:43 "Of" chord. Beautiful.
