Full English Breakfast - Cheap vs Expensive - Who Wins?
Вставка
- Опубліковано 24 чер 2024
- The full english breakfast is a British classic along with fish & chips, afternoon tea and roast dinner. It usually contains sausages, bacon, eggs, baked beans, tomato, hash brown, black pudding and toast.
In this video I try out a cheap breakfast from Wetherspoon's and an expensive breakfast from Dakota to find out what the difference is. Is it the quality of the ingredients, the taste or the portion size? I find out in this video.
Places Visited
The Cuthbert Brodrick (Wetherspoon's) - Portland Cressent, Leeds

Which one did you prefer? Cheap or Expensive?
Comment below 😀
I don't think either looked good because of the portion size, an English breakfast should be filling and set you up for the day ahead...looks like you bought two half English breakfasts here.
Watching your videos really helps me because I suffer with bad anxiety.... but your voice is calming and keeps me company. Thank you ❤
The cheaper one by a country mile.
For 18 notes, it should have been a buffet.
Expensive doesn't always mean quality, plenty of places trying to make a larger profit will charge as much as they can and still use cheap produce, places like that are never busy, then u have places that use quality produce and charge a cheap price, they are only making a small profit but they are always busy, if u always have customers, then in the long run u will be the one that makes the largest profit
I like how you always have a cuppa with your brekky when i have a full English i got to always have a cuppa,
You really can't beat that combo a full English and a cuppa,
Good video 👍
I agree!!!
On the spoons breakfast I loved the blue plate best. The egg was perfect, the sausage looked ok, can't comment on the taste. It looked nice bacon but I like mine fried. I don't mind cheap beans on a dry up. I'm not keen on hash browns. I don't think the cheap one looked to bad. On the expensive one the egg looked slightly undercooked, I didn't like the bacon at all, I like lean bacon. The sourdough bread looked lovely. I think I would go with the spoons one
I think I would go for the spoons one on most days but then treat myself on the expensive one lol
Wetherspoon beans are Heinz, but they're the low sugar ones, as I guess they also use them on the kid's meals. I don't actually really rate Heinz beans to be honest but it's interesting that you picked up on how bland they are. The poached eggs at Wetherspoon are actually bought pre poached and they just quickly drop them in water for a few seconds. This means that if they're out of poached eggs they still offer fried eggs on other dishes 😂
The sausages are also ready cooked and are pinged in the microwave. Not sure about the bacon but I *think* it's also cooked and they just sear it on the burger griddle, which does actually give it a nice smoky flavour.
I prefer smaller mushrooms on a breakfast. Portabello are tough and leathery to me, and leave an unappealing black liquid on your plate. I don't recall ever seeing portabello on breakfasts when I was a kid, but I guess some places just think it's easier to sear one big mushroom. Maybe it's cheaper too.
The cheap one did not look that bad, ok has brown needed half the fry time. Honestly I would go the cheaper because I don't think the other was worth 3 times the cheaper and would have done me, I like quality but over priced makes me mad I pay more for good stuff but in reason. Thx for your reviews love watch them.
Thanks 😀
I like Weatherspoon’s breakfasts and think they are great value, but the expensive one would be a lovely treat when meeting up with friends, especially as the price includes the buffet, so is only £3 extra for the hot food.
I agree! You get to experience an expensive hotel too lol
Where your brown sauce?
Both look very tasty.
The trick with weatherspoons is ask for bacon to be well done and tea and coffee are free refills so bonus.. love a big old blue plate 😂
The tea and coffee are free refills? I did not know that! I would have gone back for another cuppa!
I'm not a vegetarian, but have had the vegetarian breakfast many times in several Wetherspoons. It's probably more filling and you get a mushroom too! Maybe you could start a series of working through Wetherspoons menu.
Not a bad idea!
@@everydayimeating3407 the weekly deals are pretty good.
I used to choose a Wetherspoon's burger deal over a McDonald's as they were around the same price.
I visited the UK and was fond of Witherspoons. I wish I could go now.
Stopped at Dakota Edinburgh last week.... Yeah saw the prices and went to a local cafe that looked better than that.
Shows what personal preferences can do in an analysis. Spoons bacon looked better to me - I’m not a fan of oily, streaky bacon like the Dakota. Value wise - Spoons wins for me, especially as the tea or coffee comes with free refills.
Wetherspoon's also now do hotel rooms. Might make an interesting video to see how they compare to the others you have stayed in.
Do they? I might have to go stay in one lol

Not too keen on Spoons as they let themselves down with hygiene issues.
Out of the two it would have to have been the more expensive but there is a third alternative mate.....if you're mobile then roadside cafés or greasy spoons as they used to be called will put you a Full English together for half the price of that hotel and sure you'd enjoy it even more 👍
I've heard the roadside cafes do good breakfasts!
I think I preferred the look of the cheap breakfast, love getting a Witherspoon's brekky. But I've never really had an expensive one to compare.
Treat yourself to an expensive one and see what you think?
@@everydayimeating3407 I might just do that. 👍
if you are looking at 3 times the amount of food for the price. if you buy 3 wetherspoon breakfast or go an get an unlimited one for around £10
And a full belly will make you feel better than paying a lot for the same number of items.
if you want to buy expensive items then buy if from the supermarket and make it for a few days at home
@@davidsworld5837 Good advice 👌👌
You should team up with The Macmaster ...what do you think ?
One slice of toast cut in half is still one slice! The fancy breakfast looked good too: the bacon looked properly cooked, which the first one didn't, and that egg makes me want to go fry and egg. Both breakfasts looked tasty but I prefer the posher one.
I suppose you pay for the experience too
I like a spoons breakfast, I'll usually add black pudding for £1.40-ish, not a lover of a grilled tomato however so glad they seemed to have got rid of this. 1:17 as others have said, if you look top right, free refills, which is why some stay in spoons all day!
I missed it! If I would have seen it I definitely would have gone back for a few more cups!
I guess on the price. But I think I'd rather take the cheaper breakfast. But loving your opinion. I've been watching your videos for a while and I'm preferring the vids on your talking rather than the narrating afterwards. David
has to be wetherspoons free hot drink refills
I didn't know about the free refills!!! I would have gone back for more!
Local cafes are the best options
I need to go try one!
Have you tried the buffet breakfasts like beefeater, Toby carvery etc
I have not, but I think I need to!
I’m enjoying premier Inn at the moment £9.95 all you can eat.
Nice! I will be heading there soon
Spoons large breakfast and pay the extra for the black pudding with unlimited coffee refills for me.
I didn't realise it was unlimited refills when I went 😞
All these big shops, and establishments rip people off, with the price, and what you get. I make my own at weekends.
the dearer one at most should be double the price not a penny more......in fairness you got a pot of tea.instead of just a cup of tea in a paper
I prefer the cheap breakfast for the price and it didn't have black pudding, I don't care for black pudding.
So the expensive breakfast was better than the cheap one? So it should be for three times as much!
I know right!
I avoid Spoons for personal reasons but find small businesses give good value for money even roadside caravan types in roadside laybys.
I might have to check some out!
Brexit?.. reeeeeee!
the wetherspoon's do good large breakfast
I saw that on the menu too!
The expensive breakfast looked a bit greasy I thought!
The hash brown definitely was but it was very tasty!
This has got me wanting a spoons breakfast now, Ialways add the black pudding too. The only thing is the coffee is always too strong like its been burnt or something so I dont get it from there
It is really good value in spoons!
That expensive breakfast looked horrible the egg looked under done and the bacon 🙈… best breakfast is mine I have to say I do a banging fry up 😂
I will need to review it to agree lol 😀
I would say if you were going to spend £18 you can buy a lot of food from the supermarket and have breakfast for the whole family or for several days for just 1 person.
if you really price the items on the plate you find even with using better items you will come no were near what you are being robbed. for spending £18.
a nice place you expect it to be good so you are already in the mindset that it will be better. but many of the items could have been bought from the same place as wetherspoons items
I definitely think the most expensive breakfast should have had a few more items, pound for pound I think weatherspoons was decent 😊
It is good value at spoons
it was not hard to know it was Wetherspoons due to the plates;
the has not the same as the breakfasts i have had normally lighter colour.
the only better breakfast price would be an unlimited one. which would give you a better value.
the expensive one is really 9 item for the price. £18 so £2 an item vs 75p at wetherspoons.
you are not getting a bigger breakfast it will not fill you more and for the cost you can almost get 2 people unlimited breakfasts at Brewers fayre for that much money
i prefere the cheap one it was very small but could top it up make it bigger for cheaper
Thats a good point!
Cheaper place. You can order it 3 times for the same price as the expensive one.
It is good value!
You talk about Heinz beans as if they are good, they loose on almost every blind tasting test.
How many cooked 🍳 breakfasts do you eat a week 🤔?
Too many! 😞
@Everyday I’m Eating 😂🤣
Asda for ms
Three of four spoons breakfasts for me tbh
Thats a big breakfast!
@@everydayimeating3407 Ah yes, didn't mean at the same time lol
I wouldn't worry about Heinz beans or not, other brands are cheaper and often better, streaky bacon is also a no no for me, it belongs the other side of the Atlantic.
I think I prefer the normal back bacon too
some times you get what you pay for
True!
Wetherspoons brekkie much better and tastier looking than the other one, was that a catering sausage on the expensive one, looked terrible, bacon looked cheap and atrocious. Can't beat a wetherspoons brekkie for the good value and quality produce, consistent food everytime!
I think I would preferred the cheap one didn't like the look of the saugage in the expensive one
should have at least two of everything and a cuppa and a token for another one and a free house clean and boot polish. that,ll do
I almost feel bad for liking the look of the hotel one. This probably sounds weird but while the expensive one seems great and I'm sure is of amazing quality just the idea of a posh fry up seems off to me? Feels like you're meant to have those somewhere local or in a more down to earth kinda place.
It's like a chippy tea. I'm sure there's Michelin star restaurants making fried cod and chips but it just doesn't feel right haha.
At the same time though the sausage and beans at the hotel one looked so good.
Really the reason to go to the hotel though isn't even for food quality. More hygiene and such especially in these times.
The service was good too at the hotel one
Hash browns don't belong on a full english😮
You get what you pay for ,😊
18 quid for breakfast is a tad high for most folks ...just sayin
It is a bit steep so maybe to have once in a while
Ah… never put the milk in before the full brew 🤮
I may have been a bit to eager lol
18!for a break fast rip off
I wouldn't have gone near that egg on the expensive breakfast the spoons egg was far better cooked and presented. To me the expensive breakfast looked too greasy and at three times the price it would be a hard pass from me.
I don't think I would go to the expensive place regularly. Only if I'm feeling fancy lol
Hello mate, please don't take this personally but you sound like you're reading a crypt, but i did enjoy it and will watch more 🍻
You mean “script” 🙄 Good review I say
stingy portion rip of i,d ask where the rest is.
if you want a tummy filler, spoons every time
Its pretty good value!
be careful claiming to be a beans expert saying you know heinz beans everytime, Mcmaster used to say the same thing and look what happened to him, the only way to know 100% is to ask!!!, just saying, lol
What happened lol?
@@everydayimeating3407 he got embaressed by getting it wrong more than once, not every establishment use heinz,,,which in my opinion are expensive and over rated, so dont assume,,,ask, lol
Eighteen quid...!!!! 🤔 👎
Its a bit pricey!
those wetherspoons plates are awful to look at ,the expensive one looked better
The plate was pretty distracting lol
I wish you’d stop putting the milk in your cup when the tea bag is still in 🤢
Should it be tea bag out first?
@@everydayimeating3407 yep absolutely 👍🏻 if you make tea in a teapot its milk in the cup first, if you make it in the cup with a teabag then its milk last but bag out first 😋
I don't know why most of these breakfasts have sunnyside up half cooked snotty eggs, I hate them!!!!!
You should try a hospital canteen
Hmmm I'm not sure about that one lol
Strange how the menu for the cheap large breakfast said 2 sausages and 3 hash browns yet you got 1 sausage and 2 hash browns.....
So really the Morrisons full breakfast was best per £ out of the 3
He didn’t order the large breakfast on the top of the menu. He ordered the second one on the menu, a smaller version.
Where's the HP & ketchup? They're essential English breakfast sauces!!! Cant do an English without them, ketchup for bacon, HP for the sausages.
Absolutely pointless comparison, what were you expecting?
Do you work for heinz? 😆
No but I like their beans lol
@@everydayimeating3407 fair
In all honesty, both breakfasts looked pretty lame
The expensive one seemed to be dripping in oil, especially the hash brown. All of it needed a good blot on some kitchen towel before serving. And please, please, use a knife to cut the big things like sausages etc into bite sized pieces. I can’t bear it when you stab a sausage with a fork and pick the whole thing up and eat it like a caveman. 😮😮
So you ordered food from 2 establishments. Proceeded to eat said food from both places. You ate the food and enjoyed them to a point. Ate the bacon, sausage, egg, beans also. You weren't sure whether the beans from the first establishment were heinz. Difficult to decide I'm sure, I mean I had no idea if they were heinz or not! Must have been a difficult decision. You also had a fork on which you placed different parts of the breakfasts onto the fork( thankfully provided to you otherwise it would have been awkward to eat, so good job there) and the combination of different food stuffs must have thrown you into a frenzy! I mean, how do you decide which breakfast is best! Each fork full must have been a real conundrum for the palate and mind! The bacon seemed to be cooked relatively well on both, sausages also looked similar to me, eggs looked similarly cooked on both plates, beans looked like they had been heated up to roughly the same temperature. I'm not sure which one I would have said was best because they both looked quite good and well cooked. Bye.
Grew up in the 50's this is awful food, Hash browns.. really.... most breakfast I remember had chips, Beans, sausage, Bacon, eggs, Black pudding . Mushrooms, stewed Tomatoes, and cold toast, OBTW get rid of those awful yellow potatoes, classic Irish cobblers are what I remember...Just sayin
Hash browns are nicd. Give them chances!Bubble and squeak over Irish cobblers. Even Ulster potato bread over anything ROI! English breakfast (midlands or 80/90s London/Essex breakfasts superior) first, then Ulster. ROI, Welsh and Scottish don't even come close. Sometimes I fancy just duck eggs on toast with black pudding and green chillies on the side.
Cant go wrong with wetherspoons.
It was good value!
I’d just have 3 cheap breakfasts ffs
So you have had a Weatherspoons Breakfast have you ever tried a Greene King Breakfast much better nothing has rubber taste which you get from a Weatherspoons. 👊👊
I've never heard of Greene King. I will have to look out for them
Wow that’s $32 in Australia where I live, so I could get a porterhouse steak meal for that. But, I suppose if I was choosing I’d go for Spoons, 🤣🤣🦘🌻🦘
I choose the steak meal in Australia 😀
