Full LED headlights. It really irritates me not having that. My MY19 engine was nice and smooth. We have 2x MY21 in our fleet and both are really jumpy when they’re empty. I have to drive mine on eco mode otherwise it just wants to jerk about until it has some weight in the back. Anchor points are a bit scarce like you say. Apart from that we do 50k a year and none of the customs have had a single issue with them so can’t really moan to much.

Totally agree on the headlamps, My firm have upgraded to Lazerlamps which have been fitted in the front grill, they’ve made a huge difference..

fuel flap won't open with door shut, makes it a bit more difficult for fuel thieves.
Yea few people said that. Still makes no sense as cars have normal ones and don’t get fuel nicked.
@@mostlymotorbikes it might be more aimed at people having their vans on building sites, not just for anti theft but for contamination too, I use to labour for brickies a few years back and if you know anything about site work then you’ll know how different work gangs can get a bit crappy with each other, I’ve heard quite a few stories of vans having sugar, sand, water and all sorts put in the tank, not actually sure if that was the thinking behind the design 🤷
Have the same van and in same colour... I think all your comments are right.. headlamps aren’t great but I do think the cornering lights help improve the visibility when turning the steering wheel. Use the eco mode this will improve your fuel consumption to 37. Fuel flap a pain and on refuelling tend to have to wipe excess diesel off. All this aside it’s a brilliant van if you have any doubts... DON’T

My interest in vehicles goes in this order - bikes, bikes, bikes, vans, trucks, tractors and cars. I have a VW Passat that I do 30 odd thousand miles a year in for work but if I’m not working, I’ll always go in my van. Love em

The fuel cap is in rest off europe on the drivers side so it’s normal they not changing all off this to other side . Great video

The fuel cap is like that to stop it being forced open, keyless security you could say. Once you deadlock your doors no one is getting into your fuel tank me thinks?
Hmmm. I guess so.
It’s plastic the cover. Anyone wanting to steal fuel will just break it off or just melt it so the alarm doesn’t go off. That’s my idea anyway.

I think most cars have plastic fuel filler lids, just a deterrent really. I think in most countries the van is no doubt left hand drive also, so that would be in the driver side. Bit annoying in bad weather having to open the passenger door to fuel up.
It’s just because it’s primarily designed for left hand drive
. it isn’t a issue if your getting out of the left that door to refuel.

Love the vid mate, new subscriber! Love my van and my bikes too! Thought you were going to mention the side small quarter windows that you have to get out and defrost or wipe clean! I use the eco button and am getting 45-48mpg. Also the bloody dash lights coming on with the bright front running lights mean I have been caught out with driving off with no lights on! Anybody else done that? Yes I know a lot of cars/van have that now - a safety thing that should not happen if you ask me!! Stay safe everyone!

Love my 2019 limited only had it a week. Can’t think of much I hate... mine does 39mpg and I thought that was bad. Can’t wait till warranty runs out.
Headlights haven’t bothered me tbh but yeah I will update them.
And interior is amazing coming from vans all my life. Plastic seems good to me. Only problem is there’s quite a few knucks and crannys to clean lol.

Just got a 2022 on loan as someone wrote of my NV200, agreed with first4 and noticed them within 400 miles. Didn't need to tie anything is burrowing it.. But I do like it.. vans really are better than they were.

I am a hgv driver and spend lots of hours on the road and the amount of vans i see with that fuel flap left open is unbelievable 😊

Oddly i am getting around 35.7 to 37.6 over 1000 miles on a 185 Sport Auto.
Agreed on fuel filler location, easy to add some more securing rings and some in front of the arch covers to secure bikes well. also one on each side above the 2 OE ones on the front of the bulkhead further up to avoid pulling down and popping fork seals so easily.
Twin side doors also makes loading 2 bikes much easier. but more of a pain if you lean a supermoto up against the side.
I will say though, anyone considering an Auto - test drive one first. if you are used to VW / Audi DSG system or any modern dual clutch setup - then you will be disappointed. The ford Auto box is slow, lurchy and quite random in its gear changes. I believe it is quite reliable though compared to the power shift system, this while you can change gears on a button is more like an old focus 1.6 slush box. worth the extra £1000 ? i don't think so.
Never drove a Ford Transit but about to get one. But I have seen the fuel fill "design" in other vans as well (I think VW T has it). Always thought it is meant as a means to prevent "fuel theft". But yes ... it is a strange take on that. If that is indeed the reason, much better with an unlock button on the dashboard.

I have a 2018 (68 reg) work supplied transit custom limited & some of the things you hate I agree with. The headlights I thought would of been way brighter than what they are being led n all that. Like the older transit custom I’d like a glove box with lid above the steering wheel area as it’s exposed. Also the drink holder below the gear stick I hate, I wish that was a card storage area or a phone holder compartment. Would of liked a official Ford transit custom reverse camera that is built into the top brake light on the rear door as standard.
Someone needs to tell you it’s would “have” not would “of” and that person…is me.

I've got a 2019 custom, it's got a remap to~195hp and fuel economy hasn't changed. Averaging 31 might, but I mainly drive round cities and usually weighing 3-3.4 tonne
Does it invalidate your warranty?
@@mostlymotorbikes I'm not too sure to be honest, but I've never had an issue with the van. I used a reputable tuning company (quantum tuning) just in case there is an issue and it may give me better odds (where its a genuine company)
But worst case scenario if the van did have an issue I'd remove the map prior to sending it in
I’ve got a 2020 connect, headlights are awful. Yet the xenons on my kuga are as good as anything!! It’s literally like daylight on full beam!!
The only thing i miss, are the rear spiral springs. Now its way to jumpy when you go over a litle jump.

Hi i think other vans are more plasticie and after having other transits i think the fuel filler is the best they have made. it secure from opotunists and you dont need the key to access it .

Hi. Loved your videos. Went out and bought one exactly the same model, spec and colour on a 71 plate!... part love it (incredibly comfortable, great spec, light steering, controls, bright lighting in load bay) but also hate it. I mean hate it! Took it back to Ford (useless) with a number of issues but they say the tappety and unusually loud engine is normal. In 3rd gear it sounds like a tractor in a frock. Had loads of diesels, loads of vans and it's the roughest, noisiest engine ever had! The gear ratios between 2nd and 3rd are terrible. Very hard to drive smooth. Even loaded-up it's a very bouncy and oddly jittery and unsettled ride. Got it for 3 years now and after 3 weeks I don't look forward to driving it at all. Again, Ford say there's no injector issue and it's showing all normal on the diagnostic. Well if that's the best Ford can produce in 2021 then it's shocking! Does anyone else out there think the Transit engine is like a stick in a barrel of gravel?!! 😄

I love mine but surely the worst thing is the crazy slippery plastic floor in the back. You have ply lined the floor I notice. I bought a massive £80 horse box rubber mat and cut it to shape. I can now just place things like toolbox in the back and they don’t move at all.
Yeah mine was ply lined at the dealership but I heard they are crazy slippy!
Funny enough the best time to remap it is when it’s under warranty. As if the vehicle shows a weak point the remap can be removed and have the warranty work carried out.. if it is fitted with the new ECU SID212 it’s not released yet for remapping.
How would I know what ECU was fitted? It’s a brand new one.

Yes. I messed the colour grading up a bit but I know what I did wrong so all good. It’s a steep learning curve when you’re used to Resolve but I’m getting there.

Strange place for the filler flap ?? Please inform me of a van which it’s anywhere else I’ve had 2 vivaros 2 transit mk7 a transporter and I’m collecting my custom tomorrow they are all in the same location the transporter and custom being the only one which you have to open the door in my opinion it’s a bonus it slows down fuel thieves where else should it be ? I also use the filler cap to wedge the lever on the nozzle so it’s hands free obviously when it’s full it clicks off
The amount of vans you owned isn’t directly linked to the inconvenience and stupidly of the fuel filler placement
Remapping is also a problem because the vehicle is no longer factory standard so you need to have it reassessed for tax and mot and inform your insurance that the vehicle is modified.

Regarding the remap. I've got a 2016 Custom, which has the same 2.0l engine you have in yours. I had it remapped to 190bhp around 15,000 miles ago. I've done short trips and a good few long ones, and my fuel economy is exactly the same as before. I get 32 for what it's worth, but mine is an L2 crew cab.

@@m2dat791 Water in the load area? No, I've never had that. Maybe check the roof rack mount holes. If the previous owner removed a roof rack and didn't put the screws back in it would get wet in the back.
@@Jesus_Iced I will check all the roof rack mounting holes along with the plastic bungs on the roof!? I mean why are they even there I sealed one the other week. But looking like it came in from the side loading.
@@m2dat791 There are at least six holes and I reckon the middle and front set would both let water in around the side door. Good luck with it.

I have a 2017 model, had it since new and really happy with it. I don't understand why people would complain about the fuel consumption, it is a commercial vehicle. Anyway I'm also ok with that. Had a fair bit of rain here lately and I've experienced more than the usual front wheel judder under acceleration. Did fit new tyres a year ago.

I’ve got a 2018 l2h1 130bhp Ltd. I tested the mpg on 300 mile trip to Cornwall using cruise control and sticking to the speed limits. I got 47 mpg which I was very impressed with. Usually get around 36mpg driving 20 miles to work and back. 32mpg when I was using aircon . I do try to drive economically. Don’t like rear cargo lights not having an on/off switch
That’s way better mpg than I got. Nice one.
It took driving at 60mph in 6th gear for 100 miles along the A30 to get that mpg. At least I could look at the scenery

Hi i do love my Ford transit custom limited lwb white.... but i must agree the head lights at night really are bad, genuinely poor! I noticed this on my 1st night drive and also i must agree with the fuel flap as its just waiting for me to accidentally close the door on it. Besides that i love it.

You can close the driver door while the fuel cap is open. You just have to open the door in order to shut the fuel door.
No complaints about mine. I’ve just decided to sell my Fiesta ST3 to just drive my Custom Limited. It’s a fine car and soon to be camper.

Got the 170PS mild hybrid custom. Agree totally with the fuel cap, which I've had on a Mercedes, but even worse is removing the fuel filler, it always spills. My other complaint is the headlights. Angel eyes driving lights are nice but the headlights are distinctly average. As for Fuel economy, 33.7 mpg around town, which can be improved slightly using the speed limiter which I guess just stops you being too heavy footed, and 40 plus on a run.

I have the exact same model 19k on the clock , the worst thing that i found is the good year tyres wich after 19k they are like slick tyres other than that i love my van
I'd definitely recommend getting a Vito, had both transit and transporter and the Merc drives and feels solid I can't even explain it. You have to drive one to understand I think.

Thanks for the video. I'm enjoying watching your comments about the Transit Custom while I wait for mine to arrive. The fuel cap placement probably makes a bit more sense for markets that drive on the right-hand side of the road, where the fuel cap placement stays the same but then it's next to the driver's door. I agree it's weird to have to open the passenger's door.

I belive the reason why the fuel cap is on the passenger side for you is that you have right hand driving, if you are in Norway f.ex. you have the fuel cap on the drivers side, that`s more convenient.. I belive the Transit is sold more as a left side driver than right hand side..

Transit Custom 2020. I agree about the headlights they are dull and the other thing about them is the 'Auto' high beam has a mind of it's own, they simply don't work properly? Ford say that the sensor can not be adjusted. While I'm here does anyone else have problems with the media unit? Randomly these things happen and the only way to fix most issues is to stop and restart the vehicle - The media source sometimes is not what I left it as - The on/off physical button does not work along with the screen on/off. Sometimes the unit can not see Andriod Auto. Sometimes the screen freezes during maps guidance. Upon telling Ford about these problems they always say, oh come in we have a software update to fix all that, after 3 updates nothing has changed???

Lol... lead foot... I get 39-40 average. The door needing to be opened to reach the fuel cap is to deter fuel theft. A ctr. tie-down would been a chassis rail or something to fix to so you didn't rip the floor up with your ratchet straps.
My personal 'gripe' is the stupid directional spot lights that come on when you turn either left or right 😂

Just had a renualt traffic (2020) side swiped by a bus , got a transit 2021 as rental whilst renault being repaired... BIG difference. Ford is so much better to drive and build quality , only complaints so far with Transit.... i am 6 ft tall , left leg can not get uncomfortable on the clutch ( feels i am standing up whilst pressing it ) long journeys and leg is hurting , tie down anchors at rear doors only at floor level , ,and when i connect phone to main screen . i lose the veiw of the radio stations etc ( that may be me not knowing how ford sync works) . but compared to the renault .. Ford so much better.. but compare the price for a work horse and hard to justify the price of the Ford

I've been really suprised at how many of these Ford van are having major engine problem's. There's loads saying that it's had engine work done or a reconditioned engine. It's not looking to good for Ford.

A chap who does a lot of bloggs about his dog sherpa, he's got one and it went in for engine trouble.

I knew they'd had so many problems on the 2018.1 facelift when Ford switched to Euro 6 Adblue, but they'd supposedly ironed-out all the problems since 2020.1 Maybe there's still some older units floating around
@@stevemartin6882 it was a (huge) batch of faulty injectors. Seems to have only been problematic on the 1st year Euro 6 engines.
My 2019 transit custom is basically the same I’ve had 3 new motors 2 new transmission and 5 turbos ford fixed it all through warranty now they are doing a rav on the transits just keep that in mind p.s the van only did 3 thousand km before the engine blew a con rod out the side

Out of all the vans I've had, corsa van, vito, transporter, caddy maxi, transit custom and 2019 vivaro 1.6. This is the only one I would spend my own hard earned on.
My current 2019 1.6 90hp vivaro is poor. 78k in had a turbo at 50k uses 1ltr of oil every 1k miles. Very slow, and dangerous on hills. Quiet and comfy mind and economy is 38mpg and that is full to the roof with refrigeration kit.

The fuel cap is made for counties that have the steering wheel on the correct side 🤣 the left side. You get out on the side where the full cap is. It makes sense.

Us in the uk have to be different, having it just linked to the central locking like on my 18 year old trafic would make more sense

ahh mate, the headlights are atrocious. I work away from home and often have to drive 200+miles home at the end of the week. The headlights make my eyes strain so bad, been looking at trying to find a Xenon HID kit that actually fits (alot of them claim to fit, but dont).

My l2h1 dciv 320 limited 170ps does over 40mpg with half load 100% of the time.

@@popeyethesailor9 thanks Stuart. Look on autotrader and find dealers who have them in stock. It’s easier to negotiate a deal for a physical van than a factory order
Point number 4: in the rest of Europe and almost all other countries, it is the driver's door you must open and not the passenger's door

33 seems a bit shite. I get just a tad less than that from a pickup that bounces round country lanes and in 4wd on the farm or towing a trailer. The other 4 points are just living with a van, they’re all the same.

Had my 2016 custom remapped, from 98hp to 195hp! Best £300 iv spent on it! Durham remaps if anyones interested.

I own a transporter, but did look at the custom. Funny enough, I run aftermarket bulbs in my VW, as the factory ones are also crap.
Only thing that jumped out to me on the custom was the placement of the blower/heater controls. Have to ‘reach’ quite a bit.
Fuel filler is exactly the same design in my transporter...

One gripe is locking mechanism 3 times been in fir load door not locking had 2 modules fitted apart from that no problem
My door locks sometimes go a bit wild while I’m driving 🤦♂️
