I had no idea that Barry was gay, I said to myself: "Barry being gay doesn't change my relationship with Barry, I still love him, I've been following Barry since he first started in the 70's.
I fancied him when I was a teenager then when I grew up I just loved his music and his voice. Same with George Michael. I wasn’t devastated when they came out as gay because by then I knew that having their music in my life was so much more important when the crush had passed.
I knew it back in the 80's, and I sang "Oh Andy" instead it sounded more authentic to me ;) I'm glad I had the chance to see him live. - Love you, Barry
Very true: "My career would have been over." And not everybody is "thrilled" and "happy." Some feel they were betrayed. It's not easy to find out you've been "tricked" for 30+ years.
He was my teenage idol crush. I bought every album, got lost in his music. He was so dreamy when I was tenderly young and impressionable. Now those memories seem like a glitch in time. Blurry when those years should be a wonderful time to look back on. I feel like I lost a special part of me. I understand his situation and want only happiness for him but it hurts to be deceived.
I feel the same way. My friends kept telling me he was gay and I defended him and said No he isnt! My friends were making fun of him while I was defending him! Years and years later, I find out my friends were right! I felt very hurt since I defended him AND his music. But I've come to just continue to love his music and not judge his life choices. It doesnt change how I love his music and have since I was 13! He was my 1st boy crush...I continue to listen to him today and I'm almost 60.
Aprendi a admirar Barry Manilow pela sua voz abençoada. ..Linda demais! Suas músicas maravilhosas...Amo ouvi-las! Tornei-me sua fã. .. Deus o abençoe sempre e sempre.. Eu o amo! Amor de fã.... Simples e sinceramente: Eu o amo!
I remember being young and knowing he was gay. Pretty everyone knew and no one cared. I think he's wrong about saying it would have destroyed his career. People loved him; still do. He's so much more than "gay".
Kind of, but not really. I think he was confused and very shy about his sexual orientation way back when. That's something you just didn't admit to back in the day. I consider his sexual orientation more liken to that of Freddie Mercury. Freddie was and has always been in love with one woman, Mary Austin, but their marriage didn't work out. He fell in love with Jim Hutton and was with him until his death. After Mary, there were no other women, although they stayed close friends until his death. He even bought her a house next door to him after they dissolved their romantic relationship! His life story is quite interesting! If you like like that kind of thing, just search Freddie Mercury Documentary on UA-cam. 😊 Barry only loved one woman, as well...Susan Deixler. But he fell in love with Garry Kief and has been with him for many, many years. I think just because they loved just one woman doesn't necessarily make them bi. But that's just my personal opinion. Whatever the situation, I love Barry Manilow's music and his sexual orientation doesn't make one bit of difference to me. He has a wonderful voice and a lot of his songs brings tears to my eyes still!
@@blainefiasco8225 Yes! Mary Austin! I know right? Hard to believe, but it's 100% true! He left most of his money and his estate to her when he died. I was devastated when he came out. I felt he deceived his fans all these years.

Your voice sounds froggy,
Stay in the closet. We like your music. I don’t want to imagine two men doing it. Or ANYONE FOR THAT MATTER. It’s private. 😳
