I was in 4th grade when the song Mandy came out. I was the only Mandy in my school. It was not a popular name in 1974. I didn’t like my name because I could never find it in a key chain or a mug. Then Barry Manilow sang a song just for me. It was awesome.
That is so cool! My little sister was in kindergarten or 1st grade and had a girl in her class named Mandy, she always talked about her when the song came on!
We are the same age. What a fantastic time to be alive and experience incredible music of such a vast variety when we could turn on the radio and hear all kinds of stuff on the same station even. This song made me cry back in the day! Pretty sensitive kid obviously. Haha!!

jennysue62 Honey, we’re the same age! I used to dream about being one of his background singers when I was in 8th grade. Do you remember Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rocking Eve? I mean, back when Dick Clark was still alive? He had Barry on that show probably more than once. It was a tradition back then to listen to Barry sing “It’s Just Another New Year’s Eve.” I’ve seen Barry live 4 times. Twice at the Universal Studios Amphitheater, (one of those times was on New Year’s Eve). Then, I saw him on a set at Paramount Studios on a taping of The Leeza Show when he released his Singing with the Big Bands album in ‘94 (part of that show is here on YT and you can see my friend and I on camera). I fell in love to Barry's music when I was in high school back in 1980. My girlfriend and I refused to remove Barry's greatest hits 8 track tape from the player in my truck. Our friends got so used to hearing it also that we would have "sing a longs" together on the tailgate 😂. It was one of the happiest times of my life. Being 17 y/o, made $50 a week at my "after school" job. I always had money. Gas was .50 cents a gallon. We didn't have to have car insurance. My old truck was paid for due to saving from a summer time job. I was in heaven 👏🤗. Thank you Barry for all your music that has made us who we are today.

@@janeta3509 I must admit, I'm not a big fan of shortening names (unless by close family members as a "pet name"). We have homes in both the U.K. & the U.S.A. & our American family were perplexed as to why the British, especially, were upset at Meghan using the name "Lillibet". The name came to be as her baby sister, Princess Margaret, couldn't pronounce Elizabeth😊. So, you see, that's why it seemed so ridiculous to those who knew the back story when Meghan gave the queen's grandchild what had only ever been a private, family nickname. Amanda is a very pretty name for a girl. There! You got a book instead of a reply😂.

My favourite Phil Collins song is Do you remember? It brings me good memories from when I was a kid, and the song itself is beautiful 💚
My Barry Mannilow fav are Ships, Somewhere in the night and Ready to take a chance again.
Barry Manilow love your beautiful songs ❤
Oh that’s awesome. This young man will have the best memories of talking to Barry Manilow who famously sang Mandy and introduced by Kelly Clarkson. Wow. What a great experience.
Hello Barry Manilow your lookin GREAT ❤️
William you done amazing ☺️ We're so very proud of all the hard work you have been doing you. William you've accomplished so very much keep grounded and keep reaching for the sky ❤️ We love and adore you 💕🤗💕
Finally, "Harmony" gets to New York. Barry released some of the songs from it back in the early 2000's and they're great. "Every Single Day" and "Where You Go" are magnificent. And yes, nearly a half-century later, "Mandy" still works.
"Where You Go" always gives me the chills. "Stars In the Night" is another one. So happy he's finally able to get Harmony on stage!
Barry's kind of .using and that Era in music isn't a very specially time in music.
Yay! William White and Barry!
Great interview ! Enjoyed seeing Barry! He is a gem! Always watch Barry interviews! Thanks!
It amazes me that he thinks no one, especially young people, are still listening to his music!
His music is ETERNAL!
I adore Barry Manilow. Saw him for the first time in the late 70’s at the Circle Star Theater in Foster City, CA. The 4th and last time about 16 years ago at the Concord Pavillion. One of my all time favorite performers. 💕
“Talk about getting laid with music.” Barry is so funny. Such a gem and talent. Blessed he’s been part of the soundtrack of my life.
I have loved him since hearing him as a 13. I am 61 now and he is iconic!!!!!!
Saw Barry Manilow before lockdown in London, the whole thing started as a rave it was brilliant. Show superstar x
ive always loved him and his music since i was a teen and mandy came out i was so glad i got to see barry in vegas some yrs ago , hes fantastic live
This song came out while I was pregnant with my first child. I heard it one day and said...that's going to be her name....I spelled it Mandi just to be different. She is now 46 years old and is an ICU RN. Name worked well for her. Thank you Barry Manilow.
Named my daughter Amanda in 1987 planning on calling her Mandy after this song but she wasn't a Mandy...she was always Amanda.
I actually went to see Barry back in the early 80's when Copa cabana first came out. My friend is holding a Barry Manilow night tomorrow night !! I painted a picture of Barry to memorialize the night !! Can't wait!! Thank you for the Wonderful music !!!
Saw him in concert 5 years ago. He is such a great performer and his music is, was and always will be so much fun 💓
Tbf Mandy.. with its sweeping key changes an emotive lyric can probably unlock the coldest of hearts .. that kid ain’t stupid

I saw Barry in concert way back in the 90s in Florida. Always loved his music, and his good looks. I am one year older than he is. Glad he’s doing well.
His song is why my daughter is named Mandy like so many other girls♥️♥️♥️. Loved it years ago and knew I'd name my daughter Mandy years before I had her.And she's amazing ! Love you Barry!♥️♥️♥️♥️
How can you not love Barry. So good to see him looking so passionate about his new project
