  • Grandpa is a pirate
This is a picture of grandma, grandpa and me. Grandma and grandpa has a house with a big garden, and I live with them during the summers. Grandpa has a model of an old pirate ship. - I’ve been a captain on that ship, he says, and then he tells me long exciting stories about how he fought his worst enemy, the Arabic pirate captain Omar. - He’s lying! He’s worked at the post office all of his life, grandma says, but I still believe in Grandpa - I know he has an old pirate suit up on the attic.
Then on day it finally happened. When I looked out through my window, grandpa was in his car waiting for me, he had his pirate suit on. - Hurry up, come with me before grandma wakes up, we’re heading out to sea.
I put on my sailors suit and went with him. - we’re going down to the tavern in the harbour, gramps said, that’s where my ship crew usually hangs out. At the tavern there were sailors and pirates, all with sad faces having a boring time, but as soon as grandpa stepped in they all started cheering and laughing. They began to talk about Omar and his treasures.
First we need to get our old ship back in shape. It needs some repairing and we need to get gun powder and cannonballs, gramps said. The old pirate ship lay down in the docks. It had really seen better days and looked a bit worn. But the crew started painting and fixing, building and setting new sails, Grandpa was handling the crane while I was driving the forklift.
When everything was done we cast of and set sails, leaving the harbour behind. Soon we had passed the final lighthouse and the open sea lay ahead. Somewhere far of in the distant lived Omar the pirate captain on his Island. We sailed further and further south. Grandpa looked pleased as he thought about Omar’s treasures. The treasure chamber was in a cave on the island and it was full of gold and silver.
Several weeks passed by and we just kept on sailing. Then, one day when I was on the lookout in the top of the mast, I saw a peculiar boat heading straight towards us. - Ship o’hoy, I shouted. - Load up the cannons, it’s Omar and his Arabic pirates, grandpa shouted.
We have 14 cannons and Omar doesn’t have a single one. - This time he won’t stand a chance, grandpa said. But Omar and his pirates were smart, they swam under water and surprised grandpa from behind, and worst of all, one of them drilled a hole in the ship’s bottom so that it started taking in water and slowly sank.
Nobody saw me, but grandpa and his crew were captured. I managed to sneak aboard Omar’s ship and hide. There was poor grandpa bound and looking mighty sad.
Hehehe… I’m going to throw you in prison and keep your crew as rudders on my ship Omar said and laughed his evil laugh.
Once we reached Omar’s island, I waited until everyone had gone ashore before I came out of my hiding place. Omar had built a whole town with strange towers on his island. One of the towers had bars across its windows, that’s where they were going to put grandpa. How can I save him? If only he had a shovel, he’d be able to dig his way out, I thought.
The only store on the whole island was the traveling salesman Abdullah. He carried his whole stock and inventory with him and you could almost buy anything from him. Since I didn’t have any Arabic money, I simply had to borrow a shovel from him.
Omar had chosen a big strong man to guard Grandpa, but the big man was pretty much sleeping on the job. He didn’t even notice me when I came sneaking with the shovel. - GREAT, grandpa whispered, a shovel is just what I need. Omar has his treasure chamber right here below ground and if I manage to dig a tunnel to it, then the treasure will be ours.
I finally found the entrance to the treasure chamber. It was just as grandpa had described it, there was a whole chest full of gold coins. But… we had forgotten about Omar himself. He was by the coffin counting his money, and with him he had his terrifying saber. How would grandpa stand a chance without any sword what so ever?
    ...........
    THE END.
