Great video. Hope the neighbors enjoy your steaming as much as we do. Ever thought of building some sort of dynomometer for these sorts of runs? Always wished I had a boat somewhat like the 'African Queen', powered by steam. But I'd never kick the boiler like Bogart did in the movie. lol
I'd love to see you make or convert a small boat to steam. And might I say: I've found your channel very recently and it is such a joyous place to be. Thank you and I look forward to all your future content
It all depends on the condition of the engine. In order to carry out an accurate inspection/assessment for a repair quotation, I usually have to partially disassemble the engine. This incurs a small fee. My terms are: A fixed fee of £50.00 plus return insured postage costs for the assessment/repair quotation. If I undertake the repair/rebuild then the £50.00 inspection fee is deducted from the total cost. I also make a video of the entire process - including the inspection/assessment. My hourly work rate is only £30.00 per hour. But I cannot quote until I have the engine of the bench. Please let me know whether or not you agree to this. Regards, Keith Appleton MainSteam Models
Is it feasible to fit a condenser on the cylinder exhaust and feed that back to the boiler? I imagine on a boat clean water recovery could be important. Thanks for the awesome videos!
That boiler would look great on a double out-rigger canoe & a pair of paddle wheels... Would also look great in the middle of a Cli-Shay! In fact, I cant think of a place it WOULDNT look good- except gathering dust on a shelf or at a scrap yard.... Bloody luvly boiler that! Do they now sell them with the extra's you had to make to finish it off??? That is the ash-pan e.t.c....
@@keithappleton Im sure I remember you making something to do with the ash-pan or base..... To insulate it from the base board maybe? And changed the gauge glass too I think... I remember it looking moew modern small industrial looking & you "fettled" it & now it's more a model/purposeful art.... Either way, bloody luvly' boiler that!
Keith, I was talking to a chap from Auckland, New Zealand who has one of these V.6 boilers on the way to him, he has ordered some Welsh Coal and Hallett oil from me. As it is a super steamer I was wondering what the ratio of heating surface to water volume is as there seem to be many tube. It appears to be almost flash steam by the rate it makes steam. It looks like to use Welsh Dry Steam Coal too? I really must get my 8" VFT boiler going but I would be tempted to get one of these too. Thanks.
It's hard to believe that little boiler can put out so much steam! It would be able to power a boat and look good as well!
it really is quite amazing . . . .
Another beautiful setup
My dream is a steam launch and when you mentioned boat lengths my mind raced off.. thanks for a great video.
lovely engine . . . beast of a boiler!
What a beauty of a boiler.
I would love to have a nice wooden clinker with this setup in it..

it is indeed something special . . .
That is quite a boiler - and quite an engine.
That's a really handsome boiler I would love to have one like that including side pump, great! John

On ocean going ships it takes 24 hours to raise steam from a cold boiler.
Awesome as ever 🙏🏻💎
Try to use small pieces of charcoal to start fire ☺️
Do you mean exactly like I show at the beginning of the video?
I have a Stuart Turner 5a that I would like to have you re-condition for me. What do you charge to do such work?

not really worth it is these small scales as it is difficult to separate the oil from the condensate.
Keith Appleton Thank you Keith!

Castle Steam sent me a heat insulator which I fitted to the ashpan and now it doesn't set fire to the baseboard }:-)))

It's best to Email the manufacturer for that information.
