    I was at this show, sitting in the stratosphere seats where the sound was garbled, i said fuck it , lets go down to the idiot revolving stage and watch the show until they throw us out, and my buddy and I did, and I got "Red House" , fire, spanish castle magic, in my face from 15 ft away .They were INCREDIBLY LOUD, We managed to lurk until the end, it was a life lesson for me. When things ain't great like the seats, fuck it, take a chance and the payoff is unforgettable

    I think ( Myself at least ) that what makes these early live Rock performances so great ( from the ‘60’s / and even early ‘70’s at least ) is the fact that they were so “ Raw” without being “ Over processed” or even Mixed much, if at ALL !! What was played was what you hear & what you got !! Warts , slip ups and moments of sheer brilliance…. That’s just the way it was , and makes the listener even more a part of the whole show , as nothing is left to the imagination….. it IS what it IS….. 👍👍

    Damm this is powerful. You can actually feel the electricity and excitement that was going on in New York City in Madison Square Garden that night. I remember my brother and his band member Freinds went to this show. I waited up late that night into the next morning to ask him how the show was. He said it was the greatest thing he ever experienced in his life. I now fully understand why he felt that way through listening to this. I was to young to go at the time but I still remember the night very well and I will forever!!!

      Another Hendrix trademark, all his work was done with late 60s at best equipment. Hendrix didn't have a locking tremolo bar, a cosm amplifier(s), effects pedals weren't advanced like 20 years ago even. Try doing what he did with the prehistoric equipment he had. A once in a lifetime musician, like a Charlie Parker or Buddy Rich.

    W0W… First time I have ever heard "Come on baby ( let the good times roll )" live. INCREDIBLE!
    Is there a live "Hendrix" version of "1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be …and Moon, Turn the Tides…Gently Gently Away???

      Pt. 1....That is strange and sad for us. I keep hoping that some lost/hidden Hendrix songs will be discovered, but after 46 years, I'm guessing they would of turned up by now. I don't mean the crap that greedy sister (Janie) tries to sell. Hendrix would never let that junk be released if he were alive today. The Cry of Love and Rainbow Bridge were the last decent albums imho. I bought War Heroes and Crash Landing but I rarely listen to anything on them. Many listeners only know about Hendrix's first 2 albums. What a treat to watch the reactions of someone wearing headphones and listening to Electric Ladyland for the first time.... especially "1983 (A Merman I Should Turn To Be …and Moon, Turn the Tides…Gently Gently Away and "Voodoo Chile (Slight Return)" The album is a masterpiece. Very happy with all the concerts being released, but I wish the quality was up there with Band Of Gypsys:)

      Pt.2- Hard to stop typing when Hendrix is the subject:) Still hoping that a decent Hendrix movie will be made before I die. One that will make fans proud. Of course it would have to use actual Hendrix songs and have an actor that looks like Hendrix and capture his mannerisms and stage presence. Like "Ray," the film would have to use Jimi's real voice for the music. "Ray" starring Jamie Foxx was such an incredible tribute. Foxx definitely deserved that Academy Award for Best Actor. He nailed it. A shame that the Hendrix estate does not make classy Hendrix T-shirts. Just checked out the website and most of the choices are still kind of lame, plus greedy Janie is trying to sell T-shirts for $30-35! Link- www.authentichendrix.com/dept/freedom-atlanta-pop-festival?cp=72068_80027 I did see a blue Jimi Hendrix Atlanta Pop Poster T-Shirt that I might take a second look at if were not blue, plus I'm paying $30.00 for a T-shirt.
      I was at Atlanta Pop Festival. The festival was very hot, but still an incredible experience. I finally got to see Hendrix. 4 months later he died. I cried like a baby.
      About 15 years ago, while traveling around Florida, a Key West a street vendor had a shirt with the Electric Ladyland airbrushed on it. It was a piece of art, but was too pricey for me. I see a Ladyland T-shirt on Ebay for only $5.00, but I have never bought clothes from ebay. I only buy the regular 100% cotton T-shirts. Hate the paper thin and organic material t-shirts www.ebay.com/itm/Jimi-Hendrix-Experience-Electric-Ladyland-T-Shirt-Large-Gray-Brand-New-/122249930420

    I was at this one too. A terrible disappointment, as they had him on a rotating stage, a rotten idea - particularly if you're high and I have a notion Jimi was, and you could tell it was upsetting him. He couldn't authentically get off, and the poor sound and dark circus-like vibe of the massive MSG didn't help. One of the great losses of this phase of Jimi's career is that he had fallen into the rut of a very limited set list and many of the wonderful songs on his albums never or very rarely got played live, particularly the beautiful ballads. He didn't play long shows and never expanded into what that could offer him or his audience most unfortunately. I wish he and Miles could've gotten together, but that's just one rainy wish.

      The long drum solo just before that (until around 30:00).may have been when he was replacing the broken guitar string. I remember it seemed as if it took a long time.

    2 months after this show an American landed on the Moon. Obviously from the sound of Voodoo Child Jimi had gotten there long before.

    Hi, looking for Foxy lady live from 1969...it a decent recording if audience. Used to be on UA-cam under "Jimi Hendrix Foxy Lady raw". Annoying that it's not longer on UA-cam. Any idea which concert it could be from? Thanks

      @Garlic Wasps I'd say it was probably a soundboard. Pretty decent recording. I've been searching for it. Thought it might be from Jan 1969 from somewhere in Germany but couldn't find it. Riff sounds raw and better than most of his 69 versions if it. Any ideas? Thanks

      This is the last ever east coast appearance of the Experience (i.e. Jimi with Noel) The show was opened, as were the two previous east coast dates, by Buddy Miles (who will play a big part in Jimi's muse later in 69).

    one of the worst performances of mine seeing Hendrix was at MSG (don't know if it was this show)...a revolvo stage...HORRIBLE amplification...a mess of a show...i saw them many times (5 or 6 ) The best being New Years Eve...Filmore East...1969 !!!

    • @LordGreystoke
      @LordGreystoke 5 років тому +2

      Well, you can't blame Jimi for the "mess of a show" that you saw. It wasn't his idea to perform on a revolving stage. It was an idea designed to show the entire audience as much of Jimi as possible by having him revolve. Obviously, poor decision. But don't blame Jimi for that. He gave a very inspired performance that night even if the amplification was having issues, along with the revolving stage.
