- In this week's episode, I wanted to give a quick run-down of the latest piece of equipment that we picked up for the studio that we have loved using so far.
We shoot a lot of portraits and headshots in-studio and what I have always noticed is that there can often-times be a lot of inconsistency with regards to variations in my cameras position from one shot to the next. Of course, this is because I am handholding the camera. I've never been one to use a tripod in the studio but since tethering has also become a more important part of my workflow, I decided that it was time to find a proper solution that would allow me more consistency from shot-to-shot and a better overall experience both for myself and my clients.
That is where the Pistol Stand Mobile Creator Combo from Cheetah Stand comes in. This kit is the perfect solution in that it offers a consistent look to all of my other rolling c-stands while providing the additional functionality that I needed. The kit comes with two pistol grips, one for the laptop tray and one for the Tripod Ball Head. Total weight is 18lbs with a grip max load of 15lbs. Locking/Unlocking wheels make it easy to move around the setup to wherever you need it and then proceed with confidence knowing it won't change positions on you once those wheels lock. The stand is also easy to collapse and store if necessary, although I have no plans to put this bad boy away anytime soon.
As a Cheetah Stand Master Creator, I'm excited to have this new kit in the studio for my headshot work, especially paired up with my Cheetah Stand Bowflector and I look forward to more consistency and a smoother tethering experience.

Pretty expensive for something so simple.. wonder if neewer has one for a 3rd of the price
I'm sure you can always find something cheaper, but personally I've seen twigs sturdier than neewer stands, so if I'm going to put $10k+ worth of gear on this type of setup, it better be well-built and something I can trust to hold my most valuable assets. It's worth the extra $$ in this case by a long shot.
