@BigNotchTV did u figure it out yet?
@BigNotchTV do you need to be a good singer to play talk box
BigNotchTV
I’m a few weeks here and there with it... noticing this is an all day practice deal for sure lol
Growing up with Roger as an inspiration in music production. I first saw the band ( Roger Troutman & Zapp) doing covers about a year about they drop "More bounce to the ounce" . I have lived in Ohio for a bit, been at the studio(s) in Dayton Ohio, seen them countless times in concerts.....what a showman.
You have the best info on the workings of the talkbox. OUTSTANDing guide dude. Will be checking out your channel. Continued success.
Hey man, thank you very much. FINALLY somebody who knew shared how to enunciate on a talkbox. (subscribed)
Bought a talkbox the other week and went searching on how to use it. Thanks a lot for this video. Now I just have to practice... ;-)
Hey Guys i noticed i get a lot of question but youtube nvr informs me too well its always best to send a personal messages, ill definitely get back to you :)
hey man..great vid...like your sounds...what size tubing are you using there? 5/8"? and when you boil your tube, how long do you do that for?
thanks so much for all these vids, i just got mine for xmas. i'd be lost without you man
any line level signal that goes through a speaker can be used...drum machines, turntables even a theremin. Anything works but it helps to have a signal with a lot of harmonic content like a sawtooth waveform.
With out your help i would have never had done this GROOVE!
You are really good at explaining:-)
Thanks for the great tips. I just built a talkbox from scratch and have a vid up on my acct, but have been looking for advice on how to better annunciate.
Your videos are fantastic. Thanks again!
You are amazing. I never heard of the Talk box before (okay, so I am out of touch), but you did a very good teaching style and very easy to follow. Well done.
thanks a lot - that makes finally clear how to produce the consonants on the talkbox - great sound, man!
Our styles are different, you have the tradiotional talkbox sound, i dig it!
for some reason i cant get that sound out of my an1x. it has an altered sound... nott he rodger feel.. you do.. if you can hit me with the way to make my dx27 sound the way it should...
your still the dude, dude!
:)
this is nice. The Talkbox is a very confusing instrument for people to understand. This should make it clearer for the confused. :) nice job.
wicked!!! thanx alot!! just got my talkbox and I'mma start to practise now with your tips.
Sound good, i just got my talk box an my MicroKorg, trying to set up that sound,, i don't know how!
this was a very insightful video! I don't don't have one yet but I'm trying to learn as much as i can before i get it!
I boiled my tube and it got soft and was great, but when it cooled it got even harder than before. Do I need to boil it longer to get it to stay soft? Did I boil it too long? Do you just have to boil it before each use and it gets hard again after?
Yeah you can. When you got the sound you like, press and hold shift 8. Then turn the first knob 1 till it says off. then hit shift again. After that hit write and press any number 1-8 to store that sound.
Great tutorials Ross! Great info. By the way when I boil my tube do I add any spices? lol just kidding! keep the tutorials coming man!
Great Video! Learned alot from it, I do have a question for you though. I have the Rocktron Banshee with the standard Rocktron tubing, I have alot of problems with the tube not staying at the back of my mouth or falling out altogether. How can I prevent this? Thanks!
Just got my talk box and sold my talker!! Stay tuned practicing and will be be out in a week or two!!!
I sent you a PM, I had a couple of questions, but I super appreciate this video!
Forgot to ask..What talk box are you using??
It helps to know how to play a keyboard if you want to have melodic "vocals".
Rhythmicons
Do you have a smaller tube attached to the end? I see a lot of talkbox users doing that, I’m guessing that also has something to do with the clarity of how it sounds.
Ok so i have a question.. When hooking up the talkbox, do you plug it in at the output part of the keyboard and into the input part of the banshee? And midi what is that?
Aaron Brock yes, that's the correct signal path. Output of the keyboard-input of talkbox. MIDI is basically electronic instrumentation. The sound that comes from a keyboard is MIDI.
Midi is control information, not sound. You need a sythasiser or a digital instrument that takes that information and produce sound. Midi is composed of mainly note values and velocities, eg. "the user pressed note c3 at 105 velocity". You would expect to get sound from that information just as much as you would from a book of sheet music. You still need a singer, or a piano player for the sheet music book to "make sound".
ur jus the best lol forreal i love ur videos
@HotBoyRob1105 The microkorg is better then what Ross mentioned for several reasons... one of them being you its analogue and you can't go wrong with that. Secondly, you can have better control over the programming and what sound you want to create. If you wanted to, you could duplicate the sounds of a phatt minimoog synth you can't do that with a Yamaha Dx100.
UR the talkbox king man lol Do ur thing
Hey TalkBoxerDX I cant seem to find some sort of email address where I can message you directly, anyway I'm new to the whole talkbox thing the trouble I am currently having is keeping the tube in a fixed place in my mouth, when I try to shape the words and enunciate for example "Happy" the tube would drop or move about bearing in mind it has only been 2 days Ive been messing with the talkbox, Im not expecting to be on Roger Troutman's level any time soon any thoughts or suggestions? would really be appreciated thanks
And Cool Video BTW is that a Korg R3???
+Sham Talbi MicroKorg, Get at me facebook.com/martinrossmusic
your a good teacher man
thank you man, this was incredibly helpful
hey @talkboxerdx are you using a 3/4" tube or a 1/2" tube? The smaller it is the easier it is to enunciate your words right?I'm having some trouble pronouncing fullwords.i think tube size must be a big factor?
Great as always..I'm on vacation so I will be back soon..thanks for keeping me out here..:)
Slam
Thanks homie!!! I am practicing and should have one out in a week or two!!!!
did u say 2 "BOIL" the tube in water? 2 make it softer

@pricecrewmusic most people use half inch tubes
420'th person to like i had to! Skills.
the more talkbox videos i view the more i want one
2022 amazing
Great walkthrough man. Takes awhile to get used to it all. Certain syllables were gettin lost for me. Regardless, great job man.
Where in your mouth are you placing it? Are you putting it against your cheek? Are you biting down?
Very hepful, any possibility you can do a video on finger placement as well as ideal levels to have the talk box set at for volume tone and gain.
+Rafael Castillo Sure i will plan on doing this when i recieve my new cam!
yo.. thanx for sharring your knowledge...
@XxLogicGuyxX depending on on where you get it looking between 300 - 600 bux
Fantastic, thanks for your help man
Awesome advise. Cheers bro 🍻
Great video man. Much Appreciated.
as long as it has a mono or headphone output you should be ok, but as for a synth i dont know.
I have a Roland jdxi and I can’t find the right mode for it
alot off people could agree that a dx-100 will be a perfect fit
Thanks for tips. XLNT.. What year is your Micro Korg??
do you have to have a certain type synthesizer ? i have a e - 20 roland synthesizer keyboard and have been thinking about getting a talk box ?
Thank you. I needed that.
i have a question is the talkbox the same as autotune
Nope
Where do you get the talk boxx ??? ANd how much is it??
is the size tube you use smaller then the banshee?? or larger?
you use the Rocktron Banshee right? and what keyboard do you recommend
Hey, TalkBoxerDX. I'm having some problems with the talkbox. 1. The original banshee tube is making the corner of my mouth (where upper and bottom lips meet) kinda crack and my inner lip bleed. It's pretty painful and ugly. 2. I've tried replacing the tube with one I bought at home depot ("Watts" Clear Vinyl Tubing). But it has this horrible taste of vinyl. I've tried washing it but it never lost its taste. I don't know if it would hurt my lips as well. Have you had these problems? And what do you think I can do to fix them? (I would still like to play on the banshee tubing as well as a new tubing) Thank you. :)
great technique, man!
thanks man. u are very good. i like your shit. very nice demo. right on.
are u bitting the tube with your mollers or is it on the side your moller ??
Great tutorial.
I used to have a yamaha dx100 when i owned one but never tried a micro korg
Hey I have a question are you using the original talkbox or the talkbox 2 Im trying to figure out which one to buy
How does that connected to to your keyboard and what kind of talk box do you use?
Did you say there were different sizes for the tubes? What size are you using here?
so is using a keyboard easier and better than using a guitar?
I got a dx-100 for $20 on craigslist a few weeks ago. Just gotta keep your eyes open. the dx-7 is worth a few hundred, but the dx-100 isn't all that great. I wouldn't pay more than $40 for one.
what is the best sythesizer sound to use when you using a talk box homie!
@tiptomtom one of my videos has a instructions, look up how do i patch my microkorg
I have $240 a laptop, and an amplifier. can i get this setup?
Can you use one of these for karaoke? I Think that would be cool if it would work..
Hey bro video very helpful is there anyway possible u can help me achieve that pure sound on a jd-xi
great work bro :D
how would u solo on the Talkbox in the higher notes like on "So ruff so tuff" ?
Hi all, can anyone tell me, is it possible to use anything other than a keyboard to control this? A bass guitar, for example?
Great tutorial! :)
your the dude, dude :)
great explanation bro
does the Korg Minilogue not work? I tried it seems it doesnt work dunno why.
great technique
dude youhelped me a lot
yes
Where can I get a talk box?
Good job Ross... I couldna did a better job explaining all that... some don't get it others do... its clearly you understand the whole technique and process.
Mister Groove!
Thanks I hope this helped, but you already doing better than I!
hi ross pls can you tell me how i would connect me banshee talkbox to the korg?
thanks
I've got a question. I noticed the sound coming out of my talkbox is louder when I have the amp connected to the HEADPHONE jack. When I switch to the MONO(L) output, The volume seems to get lower. So, question, should I keep using the HEADPHONE jack or is MONO the proper way? I have a custom EV-1823M Compression Driver, 100 watt amp, & Korg Microkorg synth
+Sal Cruz Mono is the proper way, youll just need to adjust the amp settings on your keyboard.
how do i set up my talkbox with the keyboard
how do u make the talkbox or can u buy it?
How long should I boil the tube? Would it be possible for the tube to melt at all while it's being boiled?
10 minutes
