Anybody who has any basic knowledge of history knows that what is being proposed is ridiculously inaccurate.
Manchester adopted the ship as its main emblem in 1842- a full 35 years after slavery was outlawed throughout the British empire. It was a symbol of the city's iconic shipping canal, which was a major trade route in the Victorian age.
The Manchester football clubs were not formed until many decades later- United (originally as Newton Heath FC) in 1878 and City (originally as St Mark's West Gorton FC) in 1880. Neither clubs had any connections to slavery or the slave trade whatsoever.

As far as I can see, the ship on the MU badge looks less like a slaver and more like a clipper. Clippers were used to transport goods between Britain and SE Asia, mainly tea from India and Ceylon ( Sri Lanka).
Secondly, Manchester was the world centre of the textile industry; this explains its nickname of "Cottonopolis". Workers (often children) toiled for long hours ( up to 18 hours a day during "brisk time") under brutal conditions. It easn't Silicon Valley.
During the American Civil War, the Manchester textile workers refused to handle American cotton in solidarity with the slaves and the Union.

Manchester City has 1894 on its badge as the date it was founded. The last British colony to free slaves, did so, 60 years before. The British banned slavery 87 years before.

As for Weyman Bennett - This is a man who got a criminal record for battering a Police Officer outside BBC TV Centre and is involved with a number of organisations such as Unite Against Fascism that have almost as dodgy a background as BLM. I was at a UKIP policy launch in Westminster when he turned up to hassle old ladies with some of his thugs, I walked straight up to him in my suit and rosette and said, "Morning Weyman", he seemed shocked that I wasn't intimidated and backed off despite being a fair bit bigger than me.

Nothing is never mentioned what Britain did to end slavery, we were the only country that stood up to the world to end it and it cost us lives and money.

Another issue is that, for some reason, there is a portion of black people who believe that what happened in America with slavery and then "Jim Crow" actually happened here as well. They have this image that black people were taught in different schools and had separate seating in restaurants. That somehow the struggles that black Americans went through were mirrored here.

Slavery ended in 1833, the canals in Manchester were opened some 50-60 years later. The ship on the badges were apparently to celebrate the trade that came through Manchester docks. This trade was NOT slavery. It would have been had the docks been built 100 years earlier, but they weren't. It's simple stats.
