I knew it was a Triple K turbo as soon as you showed the engine bay, even though I’ve actually SEEN one. (I’ve rebuilt my T3 several times and that didn’t look like a Garret, so it must be the Triple K)
I would not put a turbo on a non turbo engine. It is not designed to handle the extra heat generated and will likely cause piston damage. But of course it is your engine... :-)
I bought a turbo off of a 85 California 300sd from a local seller and put it on my 82 300sd. Not appearing to make any boost. Is it compatible? Can i swap the turbine housing with my old one if it is not?
What determined which turbo was installed? Ours is a 1984, and I have the air cleaner off. I’ll get back later with the version we have. Ours still works just fine.

Is there any possibility to clean up the intake and exhaust side impellers without removing whole assembly?
Unfortunately, no.
Great information Kent..
Glad you enjoyed it

Is there anyway you could tell us what the key differences are between the two types? Thank you Kent for all you do!
Watch again.

Are they both Garrett T3 turbos? If they are the center sections will be the same.

David, I have no idea. It is very random. Maybe it was just what they had in inventory when the cars rolled down the assembly line???
Why was there a difference?, Efficiency?? Or economy??
Both perform about the same. It may have been what the factory had in inventory when the cars came down the assembly line.
@@Mercedessource thanks, Kent. Great you tubes on mercedes. I have a ,79 300D turbo diesel.
