WPL B16 with 280 motor

I bought a WPL B16 ready to run after Christmas just because it was dirt cheap - 395 sv kronor, about 39 us dollars. I have mildly modified it to stay true to the original M35A2 cargo truck. I installet a 280 motor and HG 1:10 scale electronics to make it more capable, but it´s still to weak in terrain. I will change to a 2-speed or singlespeed gearbox with 370 motor as soon as possible. But here is a video with the first version of this car! 😊

What a transformation! I found it extremely satisfying to see this vehicle being given a chance to exist as it should have been designed.
I found myself wondering why on earth it has been a successful business strategy to sell RC trucks that can barely stagger along a bumpy path due to the specification of 130 or 180 sized motors and weedy ESCs, and horrible bang-bang steering. How on earth did that work for them? I think it might be mainly because this leaves room for us to enjoy improving them, allowing them to fulfill the potential inherent in their overall design. I would be interested to know to what extent WPL, WLToys, MN Models, and all the rest of the gang planned this, and how much simple good luck was involved.
Congratulations on the look you got, with your clever canvas roof (the denim looks to me like a very coarsely-woven canvas) and the weathered body. Perhaps predictably, I think it looks terrific!

I totally agree with all of your thoughts around the budget division of the rc industri! If I was a wealthy man I would probably buy a Cross RC HC6, that looks almost exactly like the B16, but in 1:10 scale. The price is about 20 times what I paid for this rtr WPL car. I´m not wealthy... The thing is also that I purchased this car from a swedish shop (Reservdels RC) for less than half the price in the wpl official store - and had it delivered in two days. Couldn´t resist it!
Need I say that I like videos of the full scale original M35 A2 but find it both cheaper and more fun to own and drive the radio controlled variant?! 😊😊

Thanks very much, so glad you like it! 😊Yes, the motor is weak and the rear axle drive that goes through the first axle is a no-good construction. I´m going to rebuild it so each rear axle gets its own driveshaft! Will be much better! 🤓🤓
