Beautiful. I bought a real one in 1968 for $1700! It was an absolute rust-bucket but I loved it. I sold it the next year for $1600 to buy an engagement ring. We're still married. Consolation? 50 happy years including 2 Triumphs, 3 Lotuses, 2 Mustangs, 5 more Porsches and 2 lovely daughters.
I bought a real 1960 Porsche 356B in 1969 for $1,600 and ended up trading it for a 1964 VW camper in 1971. In 2018 I bought a black CMC replica speedster with a Porsche engine for $22k. I believe this red replica is also a CMC because the dash is similar to mine except I have black gauges. We also just celebrated our 50th anniversary! And congratulations to you, jjhpor!
Nice overview. I'm actually working on a CMC speedster project right now, too. But, it's the "outlaw" version with the flared fenders. FYI - your first gear grind may be because these old VW transmissions don't have syncros on 1st gear. Most of the old VW guys say not to go into first unless you're at a complete stop. I find that, sometimes, a little gas in neutral or a double-clutch helps.
Also when double clutching kiss 2nd gear first and that will slow the gears down So you can snick it into 1st. You still can't be traveling very fast tho. After you drive it for a while you will figure out the subtleties. Good luck
Congratulations!!! But please don't drive and text. My humble suggestion is make your ignition electronic and use a twin DCOE carb or a progressive carb. Don't forget an offset oil cooler and clutch pedal. I did that to my 1973 econo bug. Enjoy. 😎🇵🇭❤️
Need a heat shield between the exhaust and air intake on carb, I have a Vw 65 beetle and I was missing the rubber seal which stops the heat getting to the top half of the engine and it ran like crap.
Certainly has potential, congrats. First thing I would do is change out those 4-lug wheels and brakes for some correct wide 5 Porsche wheels. Whoever did the dash gets a failing grade. Incorrect gauges and placement. Never understood why someone would spend all that money on a replica, trying to make a replica and just give up on the details and get it wrong. It's really not that difficult to get closer to factory layout and look with all the reproduction parts available. Lots of little details changed out here and there and it could be a close to factory look speedster. Good luck and have fun!
@6:51 yeah synchros , need a fwy flyer and tune and engine dressup kit maybe dual carbs and double your money , and Tylers was a rental wasnt it? and the new is getting a Subby motor of awesomeness lol
yeah, use to be a fun Drive , but now with that road dropping in many place and all the bad road patches not to mention there is now Horrible traffic up there so sad
It's insane how much the REPLICAS are going for in the used market now. Back when you could get one for $15K-$25K sure, why not get a fun little fake 356. But not now when used ones are going in the $30k-$50k for a "replica" car.
The carburator needs a filter and you need a larger diameter steering wheel to see the gsuages...the engine needs more shrouding to stay air cooled....but no clue to keep your shorts from riding up on up on you
People were smaller Look at shoe sizes. I wear a 8 1/2 my Father wore a 7 1/2. . Size 12 is not uncommon today. I once saw a size 24, Would to see a size 24 do Ballet or stomp grapes to make wine. Remember only you can prevent forest fire. Stomp them out with a size 30 😬.
@@nicholasfernandez2573 but it is possible to improve the handling considerably for a bit more money, and perhaps so it is even better than an original 356 (and better brakes too), with by investing further into the chassis, and not go for the cheapest solution, i.e. stock bug parts. that can still be done for a tiny fraction of the cost of a real 356. the 356 is a fun sports car to drive, but it is still rather primitive by modern standards.
The 356 Porsche is by far the most overrated and over priced car out there. And i worked for Porsche. Even the VW 356 replica's are over priced. But because they're so many clueless buyers they will continue to sell for ridicules prices.
No phone while in car......!......price sounds good...even if it needs a tad......like the ones that have modern stuff like crank windows...etc...nice vid....better than people talking for half hour......heeeeeee
Nice ones go for $30-$40k. I bought this one for $16k put about $4k into it and sold it days after the Covid stock market crash for $15k. So I took a big loss to free up capital at an uncertain time. But basically you can get one for $15-$30k. A real one would cost $300k
JNH Classics That’s one thing I would NEVER do is sell it once I’ve bought it. My Late Father use to do that with His Vintage Guitars that took Him decades finding and collecting. My Late Father was a Semi Professional Country Guitarist around Nashville, Tennessee, Dallas, and Austin, Texas back during the Early 1970’s till around 1994. I NEVER could wrap My mind around the idea of frantically searching (obsession) to find Old Classic Vintage Guitars only to sell them months after buying them.
Great video and awesome dream car, congrats to you...... But you need to stop being caught on camera using your phone whilst driving. Really bad example setting.
Even if the car is not running properly, 55 miles is more than enough for you US boys, if you can not drive as well anyway, fumbling with the mobile while driving and are on the road without an air Filter. Do not shift into the first while driving, excuse my bad English.
Bruce Barrett thanks for the comment buddy! Yeah hopefully I don’t take as many losses as him. Lol. I do show a screen shot of the eBay listing in the video. It shows what I paid 👍

Is this part of the Hooptie Fleet?
Increase your steering wheel diameter to see the gauges. They make some nice wood replicas for porsche.
As a mechanic, I’ve got to say, please put an air filter on that carb! But maybe you have by now. I just started this series.
@@vieth06 and any chance it grates going in first is because it’s an early box with no syncro on first as normal. 🤷♂️🤷♂️🤷♂️

It grinds going into first gear, because in old VW’s you needed to come to a complete stop before shifting back to first.
On 1960 and earlier models this is true. From 1961 on, first heat was synchronized.
Yes the old cars weren't synchro in 1st gear.you have to come to complete stop before popping into 1st

The sound of the engine is wonderful!
It needs a air filter, with a certain amount of air restrictions,
Now where will you park it?
Also the color of your new car is “arrest me red”

Very good, finally the right price for a 356!!
Yes so the every day guy and gal can have fun enjoying the new toy……not sum $250k you only see@ car show
Imagine how boujee you'll feel when you get in an accident and you say "ehh, I'll just buy another"😂

Going to over heat and have no heat without heat hoses that blow from fan shroud into exhaust manifolds!!!
Yes, i agree. maybe this is the reason the engine is not running all that well.

you gotta lean forward keep the elbows up and you can see but originally i think the stearing wheel was larger diameter
I See the road up there still hasnt gotten any better, that drop off is crazy lol, use to be an awesome drive now bad road with dam traffic..

Good video, nice driving shoes.
I like it, looks nice great price!
Excellent! What’s the price range?
"It grinds to first gear"... because you don't go down to 1st, you had to go to 2nd!
You have no air filter on the carburetor. You are bound to shut it down eventually.
Nice car
Where did you find it? What engine was that?
Nice Car but needs some calibrating, start with the wheels and air filter. I have one of the first DAX replicas (UK). Regards from Sunny Cyprus
Nice. I need to score one of these for under 20k.
It’s getting harder to do.
Same here

This is much better than Tesla roadster.
looks like it still drives alike an old bug, not a real 356. I have owned both before, road feel and responsiveness is very different.

Ok. Something wrong with the tyres. Or too low?
Too narrow 4 inch to small those what we use on the front of beetles and ghias with 135 tyres

I agree, personally I'd go for a covert VW, but to each their own.
Usually purchased by people who have a few Porsches, but yes very old car and slow, you need to work it . Prices are mental
I disagree.
the car utilized in movie Ford x Ferrari was produced here
The backdrop Looks like Half Moon Bay or Pacifica but without the fog!
Nope, I'd wager it's PV (Palos Verdes) peninsula in the LA area.
Sweet!
Great seeing the Hoovie's garage shirt :) If you're too tall...how tall are you?
I’m 6’-2”. But it’s mostly the seats that make me too tall. I had another replica with different seats and I fit in it perfectly
Just curious. How tall are you? The car seems very small in comparison.

You should NOT be fooling around when you are driving! Especially in a death trap pretending to be a car.
