I agree, this is a Vespa channel first and foremost, and the Vespa just bleeds content ideas. I tested this one. If your Vespa is turned on and running, and you give it someone for a spin (God forbid any other scenario), it will run without a problem. At one point, the red LED will turn on to inform the rider that the fob is missing. This is a huge issue.
I have a top case from Vespa that matches my color. Guess what isn’t keyless? I’ve left my keys in my case and driven home/work with my keys in the case.
A year ago, silly me, didn't zip up his Nelson Rigg NR400 saddlebag on my Harley Davidson (I was distracted by saying goodbye to someone I visited, and didn't triple check the saddlebag, which contained my keyless fob). When I arrived at my destination, 50km (30 miles) later and switched engine off and parked the bike, it was at that moment that I knew I had failed to close my saddlebag and consequently lost my fob). To cut a long story short, the fob was recovered by a nice man who found it on a lonely semi rural road. As luck would have it, he just happened to be walking to his grandson's place, who had a birthday on that same day and the man was going to share the ice cream cake. Now if that kid had a birthday the day before, or the day after, I doubt that my fob would have been returned. A big thanks to that kid's parents for 'timing it right' when the child was conceived! But how did the finder of my fob get the fob back to me, you may ask? Very long story, but it was through the lost & found part of Facebook, and I'm not even a Facebook user, however my wife uses Facebook. Sometimes you've gotta have a win in life, and that was one of them for me. For all my essential belongings, I have labels with my name & 2 phone numbers. i had a 2022 model w a key. some f*@#$% jammed a screwdriver into the ignition. believe it or not the bike was a right off. the ignition is inked to the frame. keyless = no f@#$%^ is stealing my bike. Well at this stage. Go keyless fob i love you! i can pop the seat with the button on handlebars without turning the main dial, ie with dial in full lock position. My bike is either in full lock or run position. never straight up n down. i have never used the fob buttons. i accidently locked my key in pet carrier on the 2022 bike. NEVER AGAIN! love your Vespa takes!!! ride safe you rock!!!
I once owned a nice old (it was terrible) Mazda RX-7. Some douche stole it and for whatever reason, left a spare tire in the back. So weird. Anyway, the dude used a screw driver to get her going, and when I picked it up from the police lot, the screw driver was still on the passenger seat. I had to use that screwdriver to start the car up and drive it home. In fact, that was its key until we finally sold it...
Wow, love the intro on this one ... really gets me nodding in agreement in many ways. But let me tell you something really freaky (which in a way, doesn't really surprise me) that happened to me. First up, 2 days ago I went into the garage to check the odometer on my Harley Davidson ... keyless fob, so just need to have the fob in my pocket, turn on the ignition and look at the instrument panel to see the odometer. Silly me, walked away and it wasn't until 4 hours later that I went back outside to empty the kitchen rubbish into the outside bin, that I noticed my H-D headlight still shining brightly. At that moment, I knew that the battery wasn't going to crank the engine, but at least I was home, the bike was home and I had my trusty Kroak super capacitor rip snorter jump starter, plus my own car in the garage. What's freaky about making a careless mistaek you may all wonder? Well, the next day I told a few friends of my incident with my flat battery & successful crankup with my Kroak black box by SMS text message (I've got an Android phone incidentally). Then, about 24 hours later, I open UA-cam and lo & behold UA-cam's #1 suggested video was Bug's Vespa keyless fob video. Uncanny? Hardly not ... but there's a STRONG correlation between the text messages I sent yesterday AND UA-cam's suggestion of what video I should be watching. So much in common between Bug's need to open the glovebox on the Vespa and my inspection of the H-D odometer. Sorry for the long post, but yeah, technology is watching us! I'm not suprised and I don't let it bother me.
Wow! That’s really bizarre! Thank you for sharing that story. Oddly, one of the times I let my battery run down was exactly as you, checking the odometer… This was like 3 or 4 weeks ago. :)
I'm absolutely camp keyless, but I'm also one of those fellows that rammed their knee into the key on my vintage Vespa in a collision... Also I've never used the kill-switch or the kickstand to turn the bike off, so no empty batteries. I'm with you on the useless buttons on the remote....
I also own a Vespa GTS 300 supertech 2022. From 2023, Piaggia updated the new dashboard and upgrade the keyless fob as its selling points. not a huge fun of that. The typical mechanical key is ok to me. For me, i forgot to take the key out of the ignition after parking the scooter about 2 to 3 times. Maybe because I mounted the leg cover in winter, which cover the key from being saw. The good thing is my vespa still parked there safely when I realized that. I think vespa with keyless fob keep that not happen. good video, Bug. I like your video style.
Thank you! I left the key in my motorcycle the other day when I went to the store. I felt like such a moron. But at least I didn't leave the ignition on...
So . . . a couple or more observations: I can see one or two advantages of the fob over a conventional key. 1. If you live near a beach warm enough to go swimming, taking the waterproof chip in your swim trunks would be handy versus trying to hide your key somewhere. 2. Not having a key in the ignition along with the inevitable other two or three means your leg shield wont get all scratched up. As far as the bike finder goes why Vespa didn't tie this feature into the horn is beyond me. As far as replacement cost goes, while the price seems expensive, try buying one for your car for less, they are all wildly expensive. Great video as always Bug.
I'm indifferent. FOBs aren't my first choice but not something I really care about or have any power to change. You've got me thinking though about what might BUG me on a scooter or motorcycle. I only come up with a few. Obnoxiously loud exhaust systems. Uncomfortable riding positions. Frightening power and torque. Butt ugly design and color schemes. Poor dealer service. Poor parts supply. And of course, the machine not starting and running. But I long ago adapted to the relentless nature of progress and shed my last tears when I couldn't get swing out vents on my front windows in the car and they replaced tubes in car radios with transistors effectively robbing me of the anticipation of what I might hear when the tubes finally heated up enough to create sound... Another fine, enjoyable, and thought provoking video. Thanks for taking the time out of your busy web developer life to make it. And please, don't design any sites that constantly pop opt in screens in my face!
No popups for me. I refuse to build them. One of my first cars was a Volkswagen Bug. It had the swing-out vents. Really, the world lost a fine piece of engineering when those were done away with in modern cars/trucks. They were kind of perfect...
It took me a minute to like it. I don't care anymore is kinda convenient because I hate carrying keys! I do wish the fob was much smaller. You are funny bro, love the sense of humor. 🤙🤙
I have a few BMW bikes that do the whole "keyless ride" thing and I quite like it! This, however, seems awful in execution. Completely different results.
First off, I don't watch you because you may or may not have a point. I watch you because you're the best damn TV show not on some overpriced streaming service! Greetings to your Bianco Innocente from my Beige Avvolgente. With only a few miles under my belt, I will have to agree with you on the "fob thang." It's even bigger than the one for my Honda CR-V, and I only carry that one around when I absolutely have to (like any time I use the car...). Once the rains cease (for the next 5 days...and you thought there was a lotta rain when YOU were down here!) and I can get a few more miles in, I'm sure I will only be more annoyed. Ah, well...the price we pay for owning one of the finest scoots on the planet. Ciao, baby!
It would be better if it beeped to let you know it wasn't turned off, also in case of auto hijacking if the scoot was stolen it should cut out if it rode away from the fob.
They're the stock City Grip 2s. Yeah, they're pretty great. I've had no problems with them except the time I punctured one and had to have it replaced. It only cost $14,000 US so not so bad...
I’m a web developer as well and also prefer tech that solves a specific problem. In this case the ability to put it in my pocket, forget about it, and operate the scooter that way. Because I’m lazy I guess. It’s not much of a difference from operating my car. For the US market at least the location feature is pretty much useless… it’s a feature not a bug. I rarely use the remote seat unlock and just push the button on the scooter but it’s nice to have occasionally. I’ve yet to leave my GTS turned on but maybe I’ve just been just lucky so far. I’m sure it’ll happen at some point.
Apparently I never sent a reply to this? Swear I did, but I don’t see it. Anyhoo… full stack PHP, JS/React, mostly via the WordPress platform for a remote agency. Occasionally I take on freelance projects. Prior to working in web dev I was an analytical chemist.

Help me Obi-Bug Kanobe. You're my only hope. haha. my '22 GTS also has the bike finder blinkys. Why didn't the 'geniousi' (?) at Piaggio include the horn in the loop along with the lights as cars have. Just sayin'. BTW speaking of my '22 GTS - it came with a proper key. nyah nyah nyah. my stupid fob has the finder button and a button to open the pet carrier - which works less than 25 percent of the time.
THIS! If the damned horn honked when I pressed the button (or if it just honked continually if I hold it down) then I could scare kids away from the thing when they're hovering. That would be useful. Blinking lights, not so much.
I think you've pretty much got this key, covered. I like tech but it's pointless. You still have to push the button and turn the knob, so you may as we'll put a key in. I very much doubt it will help with theft, especially as your Vespa gets loaded in to the back of a truck. Why you'd want to press a button to find your Bianco Innocente GTS amongst all of those cars/automobiles, I just do not know. By far and away the worst aspect of this fob is that they only give you one. Even the worst of other manufactures seem to give you two before they screw you over for a replacement.
So you'd rather have a sharp pointed key in the pocket poking into your testicles, junk or whatever you kids call it now-a-days. Do you miss hearing the clanking of your nitro pills, other keys and whatever else is on your keyring hitting the plastic around the keyhole? bump, jingle, clank, clank, jingle, clank. You turned her Off, walked away and she said Goodbye, what's wrong with that? You didn't tell her you came back because you left her bling key fob on the curb. She didn't know you were sneaking back. I was eating a slice of pizza and noticed little kids looking and touching my Vespa so I simply pushed the light flasher button and the little bastards scattered. Friendly solution. I enjoy the feeling of power I get when my seat opens to reveal my helmet whilst walking to the bike. And then she says Hello, let's go big boy or something like that. Tech works best when you let it do what' it's designed for so just zip the fob in a sleeve pocket and use your hands to activate the dash buttons like cavemen did. Didn't you ever have to unfreeze a cylinder lock when living in New England? My fob is practical.
HA! While I don't have nitro pills (yet) I do rather enjoy the clink-clank of a nice set of keys bouncing around near the boys. I never unfroze a cylinder lock when I was in NE, but I do clearly remember a day waking up in Maine where the temps were down in the -30s or something like that. I had to go to work (I was a newspaper editor back then) and that was about the most miserable morning of my life. I noped out of Maine shortly thereafter.
Does anyone actually believe keyless fobs make their scooters harder to steal? You're in for baaad surprise. Yes, for the low level crook, it's more difficult, but for sophisticated thieves who are more likely to steal $10K scooters, it's a piece of cake.
In the city, there are a LOT of low-level crooks that'll just take a screwdriver to a key hole. So in that respect, yah, I guess it does make it harder to steal. Or at least less likely? In the end, two people can just lift the damned thing and walk off with it, so there's not a ton that can be done about it anyway.
All the cheap stuff from China uses this sort of tech on their "Premium" model's & since Piaggio has gone to the trouble of doing a Year of the Dragon model, you can't help but wonder, are they aiming for a share of the Chinese Market ??? 😮.
HORRIBLE!!! Every time I try to start it I have to wave it around and touch different parts of the ignition area until it finally lets me turn the ignition. And now it won't start 😡 Dead battery? Dead FOB battery? There have been enough problems with the Vespa (software updates) and this is just 1 more frustration. Do the Germans make a scooter?! 😉
I think Vespa is loosing its way... It's now trying to be more sophisticated and technological savvy than it needs to be. Part of the appeal of Vespas has traditionally always been, first and foremost, "utility". Piaggio has ruined the Vespa by moving way too far towards a fanciful and techie, complicated and confused trinket. If I had to choose one as my own, I'd try and buy an older one and if I didn't plan on lengthy motorways, I'd choose the simpler, air cooled model.
2018 is the last great & best Vespa made as far as the GTS 300 line up is concerned. It has fuel injection, ABS brakes, Traction Control, but does not have the troubling ECU or HPE oil burning engine of the 2019 & never GTS not to mention premature main drive belt breakage. The peak of the GTS 300 was 2018. Just my opinion because I own a 2018 GTS 300 with no issues & have thoroughly researched the newer models with the intention to upgrade & have wisely decided to stick with my .trusty 2018 model. The newer models are a primary example of the Italian made vehicle over stepping it's boundaries & making something that is more troublesome than it is worth.
Haha you're hilarious, you don't know what a meter is and your complaining about the electronic engineering of the key fob. Sometimes the users smarts are the problem, sorry but true.

But I still love technology, always and forever.
Same.
Stay dry this weekend!
Yeah that's a good point. I didn't really even think about the fact you only get one...
I use my pet carrier every day! 🤣
You must have a lot of pets.
YaY ₍₍٩( ᐛ )۶₎₎♪
A Rip City keychain!
Right?????? I need to get back to the gang. I've only been a handful of times but it's always a hoot.
I pay a 119 for a new fob
it solves the problem of making your scooter useless if they steal the scooter.
I could make my scooter useless just by trying to change the oil myself...
My exact thoughts.
Their bluetooth integration is a perfect example of overstepping boundaries.
Haha you're hilarious, you don't know what a meter is and your complaining about the electronic engineering of the key fob. Sometimes the users smarts are the problem, sorry but true.
No, I totally agree. I'm not smart.
About your sense of humor though...
