Barely the same, since the tgaa fan translation kept the japanese names as they were. It's not like the AAI2 translation team called Sebastian "Yumihiko Ichiyanagi" :p
The good thing about that was that the names of the main cast stayed fairly consistent. Sherlock Holmes became Herlock Sholmes, Iris Watson became Iris Wilson, Susato Mikotoba's and Barok Van Ziek's names stayed exactly the same if I remember correctly, and Ryunosuke Naruhodo and Kazuma Asogi just had the spellings altered. The only names that really changed were the side characters.
@@debastiansebeste to an extent yeah, but characters like Stronghart, McGilded, Iris, and Herlock were all called something else and I seen quite a few people on UA-cam say they couldn’t get used to the official names. I didn’t get into this franchise until after those 2 games got localized so it never bothered me. But after playing Investigations 2 last year and seeing the names changed, I get them now.
@@MTown587 tbf "Hart Vortex" and "Mael Stronghart" are very similar, since Heart of Vortex and Maelstrom are synonyms, plus Maelstrom -> Mael and Heart -> Stronghart
Same with McGilded from Cosney Megundal. They both got names that at least sound plausible in english so that's still understandable.
Herlock from Sherlock and Iris Wilson from Watson was purely for copyright stuff, not much to do here
Now, while the AAI2 fantranslation is merely a fantranslation, there's still the fact that it has names people have known for 13 years, so of course there will be much more reaction to the change compared to the TGAA changes ngl

I have no clue if I’ll ever get used to these new names but one thing I know for sure is that Raymond Shields will ALWAYS be Raymond Shields to me
Fun fact: raymond means protector, and shields are for defending people too, so the fan translation name is far more clever and subtle than the basic eddie fender (which literally means "a defender)
@@dylanzlol7293 The surname "Shields" is also just pretty faithful to the original japanese(very rare across both official or fanlocalizations).
It's a little counterpart-pun to the japanese counterpart of "Edgeworth", but it also works in the localization.
I remember in an episode of Courage the Cowardly Dog, Eustace's older brother even nicknamed him Useless

Prozd has done official dub work so it's possible that he stays as Gregory. Unlikely but possible (and they do have him redo the lines maybe his hold it can sound less like hank hill lol)

This is actually the second time this has happened. People forget that the first fan translation of AAI2 was a translated UA-cam playthrough. In that, Sebastian/Eustace was called "Raymond Furst" because he was "Furst-Rayte". Im working on a video going over the history of the fan translations and comparing them.

@@oliverchiasson7833 Yeah, it's really sad that annotations broke, I only was able to recover the first part and the last two parts of the translation. And I was able to find out every localized name and their meanings, thankfully, due to his posts in the comments.

We’ll have to cope. It was always an uphill battle and they couldn’t keep the names for likely legal reasons. I’ve seen the names change before between different translations so I guess I’m a little better braced for it. Pre-Sebastian Debeste was once Raymond Furst, Pre-Ray Shields was once Atticus Stalwart (or Uncle Atty) and Patricia Roland was once Jennifer Reese. And besides. We’ve had worse pun names. But you’ll just have to Beh’leeb Inmee.

@@debastiansebeste my point being is that everyone is everyone is blowing up at name puns when the series has SO many. And there’s many great ones that describe their character well. Eustace Winner has a very matching name pun that feels like a pompous rich boy name that doesn’t realize he’s not as special as he assumes. Luke Atmey is very much so like that and he’s a total attention whore while the reality is he’s always lacked that and his desperation leads him to the most underhanded tactics for gaining it. Better than just saying “I’ll be your guide” but it’s a name. Even if it is literally his job.
@@Kaempfdog I generally prefer pun names that can exist in real life, which is why I'm not that big of a fan of Luke Atmey's name (Atmey exists as a word but it's insanely rare and I'm not very fond of it). Same with names like "Cadaverini" and "Deid Mann" xD
Then again, there are some names like "Jacques Portsman" that are exceptions, I just can't hate them no matter how ridiculous lol

Souta Sarushiro - Simeon Saint. This is nice because dowolf named this character also Simeon in his Translation. I like it way more than Simon Keyes, mainly because I don't like when 2 characters in a Franchise have the first name, and the true Simon is Blackquill 😁)
Manosuke Naitou - Bronco Knight.
Marii Miwa - Fifi Laguarde (a corrupt woman gets a very similar name to the ECB Lady... nah just a coincidence 😂)
