I always appreciate you doing previews like this, because it demonstrates the reality of what seems like a good idea. From a productivity point of view, the time and energy saved just using the iPad (with whatever preferred writing app) we can quickly send to a specific destination, would overtime to me outweigh all the energy in using the app, taking a picture, sending, and wiping it off. Thanks again for the demo!

I do not have Rocket Book but a similar product called Elfinbook. The elfinbook can be erased with a damp cloth. I had two pages disintegrate because I had the paper towel too wet. Damp means damp not wet. I have read that leaving these notebooks in hot cars will erase the notes and putting them in the freezer for a few minutes might restore them. I haven’t tried either one of those.

I use my Rocketbook to take notes at conferences I attend. I have them go to Google Drive where I have folders for each conference with the conference schedule, syllabus, etc. I don't have to scan paper notes after the conference. I can use their keyword feature and OCR to make my notes searchable. I don't carry paper notebooks anymore! I don't have to have a plug for a device during conference sessions. I also use it when meeting with clients to take notes and send them to the client file so again, all my info is in one folder.

I love writing and drawing notes in OneNote. I have also written on paper and used office lens to put notes into OneNote which I can search because of their ocr. Love writing by hand rather than typing.

You can also use both the Rocketbook and iPad. Sometimes I find it easier and quicker to write notes on my Rocketbook when I receive calls at work but then you can just scan your Rocketbook notes and save them on the iPad that also has the OCR detection. When I have time to write notes without any hurry, I love using my iPad.

evolutionaryTom I have seen a few reviews that indicated that the Rocketbook’s writing quality degrades with multiple wipes. Did you find this to be the case? I am considering getting one for my daughter, who is working on her masters.

    • @evolutionaryTom

@@billwilson864 Hey, Bill. Not only do I have experience with the notebook but I also did my masters. So I'm familiar with the note-taking needs there!!! I haven't seen the wiping clean ability degrade at all. The pages are some type of plastic material so if you press too hard, you could leave an imprint on the page. Not much of an issue because it really does come clean. I haven't had any "ghosting" on the pages. One thing to note (pun intended) is that the ink takes about 30 seconds to dry on the page. So if you are at the bottom of the right-hand side, and flip the page to go to the top left of a new page, you are going to have smeared words on the page you just turned from, and also the page it lays on. I manage to work around that and try to make sure I get a brief pause before I turn pages. I use the letter-sized notebook the most. I have it inserted in a thin leather notebook holder I had from a regular notebook set up. If I didn't answer your question, please let me know. I use mine every day in my day job as a CEO. -Tom

Steve, I am a journalist and a grandfather. How are those related? Well as a journalist I have to take a lot of notes. As a grandfather I really would like to save the environment for my grandchildren. So, I have bought the Rocket book in the hopes that it can one, save paper and expense and two, allow me to take all the handwritten notes that I need to take. I just got my Rocket book in the mail today. I hope It works well thank you for your video.

I used the RocketBook rather heavily about 18+ months ago. I had such high hopes as I was traveling 2-3 weeks a month and wanted to cut down on my travel weight vs. paper notebooks. It was great the first 3-5 times I wrote and erased. After that, quality of “erasability” and “Re-writing” degraded rather quickly. In the end, I sucked it up and went the iPad Pro and Apple Pencil route. P.S. If you leave the notebook in a hot car, your writing “disappears” until you put your notebook in the freezer.

No worries. You can use plain paper, postits, envelopes, anything. Here's how! Get a rocketnote template and print it out. It will be an 8.5x11 Rocketnote page printed on paper (I laminated mine). Tape it to any surface (I taped mine to my desk) and plop those handwritten note papers down in the middle of that template so the borders and QR code still are visible. Scan away. An EVERGREEN rocketnote that can be used two thousand times (by then you will have so much peanut butter and jelly on the template that the QR code will need refreshing for 3 cents. I picked up a 2 pk for $4 at a craft store. I'm enjoying the notebook. No batteries! Frixion is very easy to lay down on the Yupo paper in the notebook. A little pricey at $32, but I've just started and I think I'll appreciate it more as time goes on.

Like the app and pre-defined destinations for sending the pics to. But the notebook (limited number of pages) and pen seem largely pointless. If the app simply has a way to predefine destinations and then choose one when taking the scan, well then, that’s the whole idea for a fraction of the cost as far as I can see

Hi Steve, Nice video! I'm not sure I see the advantage of this over a scanning app like Scanbot, Scannable, Apple's or Android's native scanning apps, etc. Most scanning apps support automatic uploading to numerous cloud services. They can convert the scans to text using OCR. Plus, with a phone (or tablet like an iPad), you can easily scan a teacher's work on the whiteboard or chaulk board at the front of the classroom (this is huge for students). Plus, there is no need for a special pen or paper.

@@brendalg4 Hi! I wrote that comment 4 years ago and I do agree it could have been a little clearer. I didn't mean to infer that Rocketbook sent things to the photo app. I was actually referring to the "clumsy" habit by students of taking actual photos of their notebooks or the board at the front of the classroom to create a digital copy of things. I edited my comment to hopefully make things clearer.

An Evernote Moleskine Notebook does just about the same thing. No you can’t wipe it clean with a wet cloth but you get to keep hard copies of your notes and you don’t have to re-learn how to write. And you don’t need any special pens either. Also, I’ve been taking pictures of white boards and projection screen for year and storing them in Evernote, no special $15 triangles needed.

I’m thinking if I use Dropbox link I could then import to noteability app. From your description, I can’t see why not. That would be great. Maybe you can do a video highlighting this integration for note takers , especially students already using noteability b/c of its textbook integration and audio recording of lectures, etc. I’m also thinking of using Rocketbook for my bullet journal. This way I can keep a month at a time in notebook & then archive months. This way I don’t have to keep a bunch of paper notebooks on a shelf. It’s likely lighter to carry & cost effective. I’d love to see a follow up video on these and other uses. Thanks for the review!

Great question, Stacie. Pilot FriXion ink takes about 10-15 seconds to dry on these pages, which is plenty of time to quickly erase a small mistake. Here’s how you can do it:
      1) If the ink is wet, simply wipe it away with the corner of your microfiber towel
      2) If the ink is dry, a tiny drop of water and your microfiber towel (or even your finger) should suffice

It is a great question and in fact a question that was asked on Sharktank which did not pick it up! For me these are some differences. Once you assign icons to destinations all you need to do is scan and it sends automatically without you having to do the destination entries by hand. I have a "Chron" destination I check so with almost every scan of importance the scan goes to a chron file as well as the specific destination. Also, you can send via email to up to 5 addresses per icon so if you are working on something with a team you can not only send it to a shared cloud file but with one icon it will send directly to up to 5 pre-set email addresses. The other thing I find very helpful is that you only need ONE notebook. This seems like a small thing but I tend to use multiple pads and notebooks then need to find one I used before and page through them to see which one I used last. With RB, I do not do this anymore. I know what I need and I know where it is and because you need to re-use it, you naturally organize your notes as you go. The pen you use on RB is Frixion, - it is erasable ink and designed to be used on regular paper.

Frixion (pronounced like the word "friction") pens have an ink that fades with heat. (Thus when you rub, you're creating friction/heat which will erase the ink). Thus, you may want to leave your Rocketbook in a hot car, if you value your notes. That being said, I've heard that if it happens and you place the Rocketbook in the refrigerator, the notes may reappear.

Horrible for Left Handed People - Here is why...
I was given one as a gift. I doubt I will use it much longer. It is nice to write down short term notes and then be able to erase with water but I am not a fan of the pens. The ink does not dry fast and ends up all over your hand. My beautiful cursive hand writing just ends up has a smear so I have to print which is much slower. Plus, if you do manage to get through a page without smearing it, it does not dry fast enough for you to immediately turn the page. I've found that it is just a hassle because I have to keep erasing the smears and it makes the notes useless. I can literally type my notes in faster and draw on my iPhone faster too.
Here is what I will use it for. Remove a page from the rocketbook. Put it on the refrigerator. Make your grocery list. Take photo and cross out items as you buy them. Erase with water. Don't waste paper any longer. No more pad of paper hanging from my frig. Ink can dry because it never touches anything else.
Basically, it is my $30 shopping list paper. Would not recommend for anyone who writes with left hand.
