I would still clean the blades since the dust can hold moisture and start to rust the edge of the blades.

The blades are wood. Maybe I will because the brackets are brass.

I can't even imagine the number of hours. It was installed in a building most likely since it was new. The motor is dated 1979. It has likely ran through all the summers since 79,, not once getting cleaned. None of the fans there where ever cleaned. I plan on cleaning it up later this summer for the first time!
