As a converted Protestant, I LOVE the physical acts, gestures, bowing, genuflecting, and kneeling we do as Catholics! It is the truest sign of reverence and acceptance of the triune nature of the One True God.
I love everything about our traditions and rituals, prayers. I love being catholic
I like to think of it as our Catholic “seat belt” we put on before we blast off and climb higher to God through prayer! 🚀
And it can be done with 2 fingers representing the 2 natures of Christ, or better yet with 3 fingers (pointer, middle, thumb) representing the Holy Trinity. ❤
It’s ok to do it with your left hand at Mass if your right hand is holding your son, right? 😊
The Sign of the Cross is a sacramental
if we make it with the right hand by touching
the forehead showing our belief in the Cross,
the breast showing our love of the Cross,
and the shoulders showing our readiness to bear the Cross.
No, That’s inverted sign of the cross. Which is Satanic.
The Orthodox kept the tradition of the ancient Catholics where they put the 2nd hand gesture to the belly not the chest. It looks like an inverted cross.
This is just my thought, that the Sign of the Cross before prayers is to signify clearly that we address our prayers to the Divine Persons of the Trinity, God, regardless of whether in our prayers we specifically address the Father, or Jesus, or the Spirit.
Can’t wait to go to mass.
I was taught when doing the cross:
"In the name of The Father " is center of forehead
"In the name of The Son" is to the bellybutton
"In the name of The Holy Spirit" is left to right shoulders (left for being first arm stretched across the cross).
You can usually tell a “good Catholic” by how far South they go on “In the name of the Son”. Catholics also need to slow down and be reverent when making the sign of the cross.
@@KSTrekker The reason behind the belly button is to show the duality of Jesus' human and divine natures.
@@wendymattingly9344 - understood; I’m just making a general observation, not a judgement, that Catholics who get it and have a deep, abiding faith and consistent practice tend to go all the way to the belly button when making the sign of the cross.
@@KSTrekker did not take offense at all. We are good. 😉
Soooooo gooooood!!! Praise be to GOD!! AVE MARIA!!!! GRATIA PLENA!
Interesting how he said he crosses him self both ways as a small prayer for unity. I do the same thing. Only other person I’ve heard to do that.
After praying in church for about 45 minutes I left and went home and stood buy an elevator to take me up to my floor as soon as the elevator door opened I lost all reality around me and was then taken inside of my body this orange glowing ball appeared in my belly and then I watched the light from it as it rose up and when it hit my brain area a blackboard appeared and flames of letters were being wrote on it I was so amazed by what was going on I didn't read what the words were saying by then all the words came back together and descended back into the orange glowing ball and disappeared and then I was back in this reality around me the elevator door was still open and then I went up to my floor and later on I read in the bible in Hebrews 10:16 This is the covenant I will make with them I will put my laws in there hearts and [ I will write them in their minds] The sign of the cross touch your forehead the Father touch your belly the Son and each shoulder Holy Spirit in you God Bless.
Thank you for telling this
I never thought about how I sign, I am left handed and have always used my left hand and go from right to left shoulder
As a kid I use to think it was dialing up God in prayer
I love making the sign of the Cross
Blessed be God, forever 🙏
My take on the actual act of making the sign of the cross - I could be completely incorrect:
In the Orthodox Christian faith, they specifically use 3 fingers to signify the Trinity. We (Catholics) use all 5 to signify the extended family of Mary and Joseph as well (I think), however - the actual action of the sign of the cross is incorrect and should go like so: In the name (forehead), of the Father (center of the chest), and of the Son (to the right or left shoulder), and of the Holy Spirit (the opposite side). Amen (joining of palms)
Instead, what I see everywhere is - In the name of the Father (forehead), and of the Son (chest or abdomen) and of the Holy (left shoulder), Spirit (right shoulder), Amen. The Holy Spirit isn't 2 separate entities - so why is it broken up in the sign of the cross?
If you observe the Orthodox Christians, you notice they use the right side of the shoulder to signify that Jesus is seated to the right side of the Father - hence it's more accurate to use forehead, center, right & left in that sequence when making the sign of the cross.
@@Call_Upon_YAH - obvious troll. Do you think we go to Protestant UA-cam channels and tell them they’re wrong and they’re going to hell? It’s not the Holy Spirit that is directing your actions.
@@Call_Upon_YAH That's a long devil's deceit list. Keep it simple. Yes, we Catholics venerate Mother Mary. She in turn leads us back to her son Jesus - "Do whatever he tells you" (go research that statement). Don't worry about us Catholics we will all go to hell for venerating the mother of God (as well). I am fine with that.
@@TheBuckaroo987 I hope you were speaking tongue-in-cheek in your response to the 'Jesus Saves' troll when you said "we Catholics worship Mary." Statements like that set Catholic apologetics back about 500 years. As any Catholic should know, we absolutely do not "worship" Mary. We simply offer her "hyperdulia" - the high honor due her as the Mother of the Messiah.
@@janeyount8412 You are right.
5 fingers is for the 5 wounds of Jesus
This should be taught in catheism at early age and taught through out catheism. Born catholic and never taught this.
A lot of things have fallen through the cracks since Vatican II.
One question still remains for me, though. Am I the only one anywhere who does this?
After what everyone else does (up, down, left, right), I've always gone back to the center for just one more touch. Maybe just leftover from my Episcopal upbringing Years ago🤷, but now I guess it reminds me of the spear piercing Him after He was dead.
How can I bless myself? That's weird!
Just another manmade, unbiblical addition to the long RCC list
Early Christians used the thumb or index finger to trace a little cross on their foreheads. They associated the practice with references in Ezekiel 9:7 and Revelation 7:3, 9:4, and 14:1, all of which describe believers bearing God’s seal on their foreheads. Taking it bigger to make a cross connection our head, heard and body for Christ is not “unbiblical”. The exact practice might be “extra” biblical but it’s not unbiblical.
Hi bowing, crying/weepingl, laying hands on, praying, before a plaster manmade graven image isn’t in the Bible but was added to the religion. This is just one more example how far the RCC has removed itself from the simplistic gospel and Christianity
Why do people feel the need to put down someone else’s faith? How Christian is that??!!
@@dalecharlton615 hi how did Paul address others with flse gospels?
