Joycelyn Thomas , my impression is she was elegant, funny and very intelligent, too. They don't make 'em like that anymore! I saw Ms. Kitt in a matinee performance of "Timbuktu" in 1978--wow!

...True. Although there was double entendre, suggestively pregnant pauses, and knowing smiles, Ms.Kitt was always a lady and never vulgar in the least. Vulgarity is never progressive, it's just trashy...no getting under, around, or over it.

This is one of my favorites. Even without her band (these musicians are not her usual backup), she is exquisite.
She doesn't say giarra sour, the word is yarasour and in turkish it means "suits well" as far as I concernt... Katibima gulalidagumlak na guzal yarasour" means, how well ironed shirt suits my gentelman (katip is a sort of bureaucrat in late 19th century of late ottoman and pre-republic era, who was dressing in tie suits)
