    10. Cole Island
    Location - British Columbia
    9.Bankhead
    Location - Alberta
    8.The Guild Inn
    Location - Ontario
Locally known as The Guild, this abandoned place was once an impressive hotel in Scarborough Toronto. Since 1914, the property has switched owners many times. It was even used as a Foreign Mission House for the Roman Catholic Church.
What's more impressive than the buildings, is the 90 acres around them. The families that owned the property combined many different architectural styles to create gardens that could rival any property in Europe.
For a long time everything on the property was abandoned, nowadays, the gardens serve as a great spot for intimate weddings, and there have been major talks about reviving the hotel too.
    7.Stanley Park Zoo
    Location - British Columbia
    6.Val Jalbert
    Location - Quebec.
My French is not great; so lets just get it out of the way; Val Jalbert is located in Quebec and it is listed as a ghost town. Its easy to see why with photos like this one.
The village sprung to existence because of the successful pulp mill in the area. What is a pulp mill you ask? Its an integral part for the creation of PAPER AND STUFF! You take some wood chips add some magic and then you have FIBERBOARD !
The village was founded in 1901 and by 1929 all the homes in the area were boarded up and everyone was ordered to leave….
In the 1960s the location was transformed into a public park. YAY ! Now everyone can enjoy the nature and check out the homes of the workers that used to work in the mill.
    5.Celanese Power House
    Location - Alberta
    4.Grain Elevators
    Location - Alberta
This is not just one site, the countryside of Alberta seems to be littered with dilapidated grain elevators.
Like this one in Herronton, a very small town near Calgary. Or this one in Brant.
Grain elevators commonly refer to buildings that store grain, but they can also refer to what we see in these pictures, towers containing bucket elevators that load up containers with grain.
Locals have tried to preserve as much as they can, and have even started the Alberta Grain Elevator Society !
    3.Camp 30
    Location - Ontario
    2.Partridge Island
    Location - New Brunswick
This island has quite a long history, located within the city of Saint John, the island was first used as a quarantine station in 1785. It also had a lighthouse and military post on it.
During the Irish Potato Famine it is estimated that around 30,000 people passed through the island for processing, with around 1200 actually dying there. And by 1890, 78,000 immigrants passed through the island a year. The most famous part of the island is the Celtic cross dedicated to those who passed on the island.
There was a museum near the cross that operated until 1995. Since then, the island has become almost a rite of passage for teenagers in the area. With so much to explore, its easy to see how you can be attracted to the haunting past of the land.
    1.Queen of Sidney
    Location - British Columbia

I live 15 minutes from Bowmanville, and Camp 30, the POW camp was actually for higher up officers; generals, colonels, etc, and nobody was ever intentionally killed or tortured there. They had a great many privileges and were allowed to walk, swim in the nearby waters, play games, leave the premises on occasion etc. The "revolt" mentioned is affectionately called 'The Battle of Bowmanville' and it was a petty protest. They locked themselves inside their rooms and "defended themselves" with hockey sticks and lacrosse sticks. There was one reported injury and it was because of a jam jar.

For many years, when it was owned and operated by a family, this was at least partly used as a sort of artists colony. It was always having money issues. These days it's owned by the City and grounds are frequently used for wedding pictures and fashion shoots.
Much of interesting architecture dates from an owner who saved architectural detail from a number of building that were knocked down roughly from 1950-70's.

Near Kamloops British Columbia, there is lots of cool abandon gold mines, even an abandon asylum called Tranquille Pandova City. In the 1800s and 1900s it used to be a prision/mental hospital. In the middle of the night if you were near Kamloops lake sometimes you could hear doors slamming and even some screams of terror coming from the old Asylum. There is also an abandoned ww2 military base out by Paul Lake.

Nice video Taltanic......What really moved me was your bit on the Queen of Sydney. I was born in 1964, the ship was 4 years old then. My Moms' parents lived on Gabriola Island in B.C. and my family would ride this ferry to Nanaimo, then take a smaller one to Gabriola Is. My Grandparents' home faced the ocean and we could see this ferry as it sailed its' route from Tsawwassen to Nanaimo and back.
WOWEE, time has flown and childhood experiences are now just fond memories. I LOVED WATCHING THIS SHIP PASS BY AS I PLAYED ON THE SANDSTONE BEACH.........................

Contrary to No. 4 in the video, the countryside of Alberta is not littered with grain elevators. In fact, there were very few left standing long before this video was made. The reason is because of the way they were made. Most were built in the early years of the 20th century and the foundation consisted of a series of crossed timbers, not cement. The purpose of grain elevators was to hold wheat and barley crops brought there by farmers until an empty grain car was available to be loaded, so all grain elevators were built beside railroad tracks. Grain elevators had 30-40 internal bins and as soon as the track-side bins were empty the grain would be shifted to that side. After 70-80 years, the elevators started to lean towards the tracks. The advent of cheap truck transport plus the increasing instability of the elevators meant that they had to be removed in order for trains to keep using the track safely ( plus, with all the grain dust in every nook and cranny, they were a serious fire hazard). When I was a kid growing up in Alberta grain elevators were everywhere; now they are quite rare and the ones that are left are being restored as historical sites.

It will definitely stay in my memories :) This place is worth a visit if you ever go to Lac Saint-Jean !

I don't know a lot about the Celanese plant, but I do know that I had to go out there to do a service call for a 3rd party contractor around 2005.... The plant was still occupied, but a lot of stuff was sitting decommissioned and unused, including the generating station. I remember the raw water pump system that drew water in from the river was still operating too because we had to go down there and look at some high voltage breakers.

A fellow I worked for owns, or did own, the Queen Of Sidney. He bought it for not much. It paid for itself in just the fuel left in the tanks, and he ran all his farm equipment on it for 2 years. In his barn he had the brass ship’s bell, the wheel, and the portrait of the Queen Elizabeth. I even used the first aid kit from it to patch up a co-worker who cut himself. He rented it for everything film location to paintball games. I rode on that ferry a lot when it was in service. It’s not at Silverdale any more, don’t know what happened to it

    Of note:
The Queen of Sidney was the very first ferry to be built and put into service by BC Ferries. Before that, only a small number of ships from companies that were purchased by the BC government to form BC Ferries had been in use. The Sidney is in essence the first BC Ferry starting a long line of successful ships.

To addon to this for fun, it was decommissioned about 10 years earlier than her sister ship, the Queen of Tsawassen, due to some issues. These "issues" were failing engines, with engines leaking exhaust and oil, which just ended up being a health hazard to the engineers. So they sold it thinking it was going to be sold to be used in a logging camp, but it ended up in the hands of some person who has it just sitting there.

The Queen Of Sidney is a 30min drive from where I live. It is strange to look at, but it's not a ghost ship at all. Just a rusty hulk that no one wants. There was a rumor some years back where someone bought it and planned to turn it into a houseboat. Still haven't seen that happen yet.

I live close to the Queen of Sidney, it's in deplorable condition and is barely recognizable as a ship. It's just west of Mission, sitting on the Fraser River bank, with a bunch of other rusting abandoned boats and junk. So sad.

Near my home in British Columbia If I travel up the mountain a bit then walk for a couple of kilometres there is a abandoned cabin. I have found some interesting things there but have only went once, I only really remember a couple of items I found and only one I could tell was an oil lamp. The others were either nails or random pieces of metal or other items. It’s a very interesting place. No one knows who built it or where they went, it’s a very interesting little place maybe I will go metal detecting up their again sometime.

I am so proud that my home province made this list. And one of the cities that's only a 47 minute drive away from me Saint John. But new brunswick has more to offer then ghost towns and poor cities. It has blueberry fields that still have WWII bomb shelters and bunkers. Not that Saint John doesn't have those around the city either. But Pennfield where the blueberry fields are located was the home to a airfield. So it makes sense for military complexes to be around it. But NB is so beautiful in the fall that one has to see it to believe it.

The Celanese plant (the AT Plastics one) closed down in late 2006 as the reactors were not efficient enough and Celanese still operate the Celanese Eva Polymers plant in Edmonton located just off the 101 Ave NW east of 49 st NW. All people working at the AT Plastics plant were moved to the more updated plant. There they have 5 reactors which made plastics, but recently all but 2 of the reactors have been shutdown and alot of the people working there have been laidoff.

i can see partridge island from where im sitting right now out my window, made the trip across the rocks several times, you have to walk across a breakwater formed with huge rocks to get out there, it takes about a hour to a hour and a half depending on your pace. lots of dumb kids sprain ankles or break legs making the walk across and have to be rescued by the coast guard, come spring you will see all the teens walking down the street with tents and back packs all going out to spend the night on the island.

To correct on the property of the Queen of Sidney. They know precisely who is the owner of that boat and the property it is on, many people ask him for a tour of the ship. The government controversy is from that graveyard posing an environmental risk on the Frazer River. It was decommissioned about 10 years earlier than her sister ship, the Queen of Tsawassen, due to some issues. These "issues" were failing engines, with engines leaking exhaust and oil, which just ended up being a health hazard to the engineers. So they sold it thinking it was going to be sold to be used in a logging camp, but it ended up in the hands of some person who has it just sitting there.
