10. The Ourang Medan
In 1947 (or, 1948, according to some accounts), a disturbing distress call was picked up by two American ships at British, and Dutch listening posts in the Strait of Malacca. The message said, “All officers including captain are lying in chartroom and bridge. Possibly whole crew.” This was followed by a burst of indecipherable Morse code, then a final, grim message
The men at the listening posts triangulated the message and determined it came from a Dutch freighter vessel called the Ourang Medan. A conscripted American vessel named the Silver Star was dispatched on a rescue mission.
The rescuers entered a living nightmare. After hailing the Ourang Medan and receiving no reply, they boarded the vessel. Corpses littered the decks, all of them with the same terrified expression and their arms reaching out as if grappling with an unseen assailant. Even the ship’s dog was, its mouth curled in a snarl.
As they investigated, finding even more corpses in the boiler room, the rescuers made a strange observation. Despite it being over 100 degrees Fahrenheit, the air in the lowest part of the hold was extremely cold. None of the sailors could explain the phenomenon. They also couldn’t find any damage done to the ship itself.
The crew of the Silver Star decided to tow the Ourang Medan back to port. However, as soon as they finished fastening the tow line, they saw smoke boiling up from the lower decks, specifically from the Number 4 hold. The boarding party barely had time to cut the tow line and return to the Silver Star before an explosion ripped through the vessel. The explosion was so strong, it actually lifted the ship out of the water before it disappeared below the waters of the Strait of Malacca.
One theory as to what happened on the Ourang Medan is that it carried some form of nerve gas that escaped, everyone and causing the explosion. It doesn’t account for the strange cold down below, however. At any rate, we will probably never know for sure what happened.
9. The Carroll A. Deering
In August 1920, the Carroll A. Deering set sail from Norfolk, Virginia with an experienced captain and a crew of 10 men bound for Rio de Janeiro with a cargo of coal. Its original captain, William H. Merritt, fell ill shortly after departure and was replaced by Captain W. B. Wormell. Despite this sudden change, the ship delivered its cargo on schedule and set sail to return in December. So far so good!
Captain Jacobson aboard the Cape Lookout Lightship in North Carolina sighted the vessel bound for its home port on January 29, 1921. The Carroll A. Deering hailed the lightship and reported that the ship had lost its anchors. Captain Jacobson took note, but couldn’t report it because his radio was out. He later described the crew of the Carroll A. Deering "milling around" suspiciously on the fore deck of the ship.
Two days later, the schooner was seen stuck on Diamond Shoals, a treacherous stretch of water. Rough waters kept anyone from reaching the wreck until February 4, when rescuers discovered the Carroll A. Deering to be abandoned. Two lifeboats, personal belongings, key navigational equipment, some papers, and the ship’s anchors were also missing. Despite an investigation by the fledgling FBI, no trace of the crew or the ship’s logs were ever recovered.
8. The Octavius
In 1761, a ship named The Octavius departed London loaded with cargo bound for China. It reached its destination and took on another load for the return trip. By then, it was 1762. The captain decided to take advantage of unusually warm weather and risk an attempt through the Northwest Passage. Even though no one had been able to navigate it successfully yet. No one saw the Octavius for thirteen years and people assumed it succumbed to the Arctic.
On October 11, 1775 the whaling ship The Herald, while working in waters west of Greenland, spotted a ship drifting along. They boarded her only to find the entire crew below decks frozen solid. The captain sat at his desk in his cabin, frozen stiff with pen in hand apparently in the middle of a log entry.
The ship was The Octavius. According to the last log entry, dated 1762, the captain’s chance at conquering the Northwest Passage had failed and the ship was locked in ice.

I can't explain these ships.

Looking at the thumbnail, I cam just imagine the captain walking out of his cabin, looking around at his helmsman and just asking “HOW?!”
schooner is pronounced, "skoon-er"
I want to see the boat on the island as shown in cover...

It's not a real ship. Its was built that way. This video is full of crap
Its photoshop art by Marcel Laverdet. He never intended it to be used as clickbait or as a fake ghost ship or whatever 🙄
Thumbnail* and it's fake.
*_One of them must be Captain Edward Kenway's Jackdaw_*
This is why i stick with playing with ships in the bathtub
Lol I'm going to join you
Don’t do it
Your a grown up girl and you do that...
The Mary Celeste has pretty much been explained. It had been racked by storms for 10 days which resulted in broken barrels of raw alcohol leaking into the hold. Because of the high possibility of spontaneous combustion, in all likelihood, the crew abandoned ship in the missing life boat. There was a very long rope that was trailing behind the vessel thought to be a teather to the life boat. Logically, it can be assumed they were trailing behind the vessel waiting for one of two things to happen. Either the hold would vent and cool, (the hatch covers were off of the hold) or explode. Also, the ship was not at full sail. Most of the sails had been downed, including the main sail but in the rush to get off the boat, they didn't have time to take them all down. One can assume a gust of wind caused the ship to lurch forward and whoever had a hold of the teather lost grip, and they were unable to catch up with it, and the lifeboat eventually sunk. Another "mysterious" thing was the broken ships compass, which, again, in all likelihood happened during the 10 days of storms. Mystery solved.
In modern maritime usage, and probably in the marie Celeste's time, a lifeboat was launched with what's called a sea painter line which holds it in the water alongside the ship -- this assumes the ship still has forward movement. When the boat is loaded, the painter is released, and it remains, as you say, trailing along. Usually it would NOT be long enough to trail behind, at least not for a significant distance, though. However, any sort of line trailing is certainly indicative of a controlled lifeboat launch.
abandoned? but i read that all the lifeboats were still there...how
did they abandon..jump off?
she was built in Nova Scotia Canada
That is an awesome unvrifiable explanation. Glad u managed to solve the mystery in your mind without resorting to all that pesky supporting evidence that you passed right by. I mean there is no way anyone could argue with you ..........i mean unless they demanded actual proof.
Um, no. Not mystery solved. That's just a theory, your theory and that's all it is. What happened to the people - why would the lifeboat sink?
The Mary Celeste was caused by Daleks scaring the crew of the ship.
How could they forget the Flying Dutchmen.
Or the Black Pearl
Black pearl was sunk by the brits we know what happened
That is actually a good one...
+ Jason Swaynghame: Whereas the Dutchman is mythified from TRUE HISTORICAL events, the Pearl is purely a Disney creation.

+Emma lou westwood You're very welcome! :)
Man I really love wooden sailing ships! I wish I was born 400 years back!!
Same but I think you don’t want to really but the ships were lovley
great watching .thanks:D
the first one must of been loaded with nitrogen
It was loaded with 15000 boxes of sulfuric acid, potassium cyanide and nitroglycerin. It was smuggled on the ship in beijing and the ship was sent to a low traffic route so they wouldn't be caught. They assume, some boxes were leaking and produced hydrogen cyanide gas... So basically a death sentance on a boat
It didn't exist. Its an urban myth.
There was even a survivor you idiot. He died several days after he was rescued due to exhaustion
it could have replaced the air and suffocated everyone on board.
Or co2.
Where's the flying dutchman😂
#5 is REALLY easy to explain. When you are sailing single handed (you are the only person on the boat) one thing you never ever do is let yourself fall overboard. Most people attach themselves to the boat by 2 lanyards. You never detach both lanyards at the same time. That way you can change tie in positions without ever exposing yourself to danger.
This is a fairly common accident as, in a sail boat the deck is usually tipped to one side or the other up to 30 degrees. Add some water to the deck (which is also fairly common) and slipping becomes almost inevitable. If you slip while you are not attached to the boat, preventing yourself falling overboard is almost impossible. When that happens the boat continues on the heading you last set, and with no one aboard to turn around and get you, the boat leaves you behind.
The boat may some time be found, but your body will almost certainly never be recovered.
They never found my ship yet!! Hahaha
i love how she just said "but I'm gonna try!" lol
CLICKBAIT channel. You use thumbnails that aren't in your vids. Then you just use a bunch of free images & throw on 3-4 ads. Just NO.
Nope. I don't subscribe to channels like this. There ARE several channels like this ~ you're wrong about every other channel being like this. Only greedy, lazy users do this :D People who actually have a worthy video don't need to post false, clickbait thumbnails ;)
ROTFLMAO!!!! Perhaps you should first learn to spell if you'd like me to take you seriously. ;)
I don't have to resort to insulting the mentally disabled to get my point across. How old are you? Twelve? Tsk. Tsk. Yeah, I did decide to go elsewhere. I gave it a thumbs down, I unsubscribed, and I explained why. That is sensible. People like you however, will happily stay here right? There are at least five other channels I could list right now that provide the same content as this one ~ without overdoing it on the ads or using clickbait photos. It's called having integrity. You might want to check that out.
I see the children are out to play! You deserve everything that will come your way in life. You can't fix stupid. Too bad your parents aren't raising you better :D You clearly don't even understand what clickbait is. Once you graduate, or I should say if you graduate, come on back and let everybody see how clever you are. For now ~ you failed. Take care!
while I do enjoy the video and channel danu is right that the thumbnail is clickbait I would so have wanted to see a cool pirate island ship but alas maybe another video in the future will feature it.
I agree
i’m obsessed with these types of videos they are like free therapy
When you pronounced Newfoundland exactly as its spelt it was so adorable
the least you could of done was show pics of the actual ships
Tony Caira they where all like from 18th century
in *1947 or 1948 or according to some accounts*
I think that is both spooky and cool. I wonder if a movie could be made based on anyone of those?
Oh wow I'm never going on a ship again
same here....i was about to comment that untill i saw yours
Literally Drippy Yay u play pokemon
i probably will buddy
atleast it's better than being abducted and never found again right ?
Ya and I also love Pokemon
Rose pettle64
Reminds me of that movie ghost ship
Colton Cheatwood, Only reason to watch Ghost ship is the part where the cable rips through and cuts everyone in half. Apart from that it's a bloody awful film.
Classic, finally everybody knew who mudvayne was
I wanted to find out how that ship ended up on that island, high above the water like in the picture.
Texas Bill High then low tide then stayed low? Maybe...
Yea, click bait photo
Me too, dammit, they tricked us!
That's why even though some of the vids are half good, I have never subscribed or given a thumbs up for this channel
Its such a relief when the music stops....then it starts again...
3:00 - 3:07 Nice picture of the Belgian Relief ship Imo adrift in Bedford Basin following the catastrophic explosion which leveled most of Halifax on Dec 6th 1917!
"The Oceans are a really scary place" what planet are you rambling on about?
Thumb down and reporting. I'm tired of youtubers that use misleading pictures for their videos.
Michael Roepke why are you reporting because reporting for a misleading picture that was just somebody's cool drawing
I think that they where just trying to get people to know what the video is about and they maybe over did it
Dude how old our you dam if your reporting because of that you need to get off of UA-cam
Reports won't work dipshit
You fucking crybaby
The first one the cold might have been a leaking cooling system. Nerve gas is often stored in very cold and secured lockers. If there was a failure in the system or sabotaged by someone that would explain the deaths and the cold as the cold would hang low in the ship. The nerve gas probably had escaped/dissipated by that point. The frighten looks before they died could have been hallucinations.
I wanted to see the thumbnail ;-;
I always want to see the thumbnail
You can board the octavius in assassin's Creed 3
AkaOkami now I wanna play assasin creed 3
I hated 3 ac4 is best one
Zack Floate I said it because it relates to the video. No offense fellow assassin. The Octavis was in ac3 but not 4. On this video it mentions the Octavis.
Speaking of AC here's what I like about 3 and 4
3: loads of weapons and I play as a native American
4: muthafuckin pirates
Ok just saying tho
I like ac4 cause of the sea dynamic and that you play a pirate and meet historical people
Strange strange tales thank you
larry mondello not trying to be rude, this *tail* is the appendage on animals and this *tale* is used for a story such as a "fairytale"
Aphrodite OnEarth are you serious are you out of your mind I think so
larry mondello out of my mind cuz I'm trying to tell you you used the wrong version of a word? There are no tails in this video. It's not about monkeys or cats or anything with a tail you fucking toolbag. You should have wrote "strange strange tales, thank you" not tail as in the thing dogs wag. Different spellings have different meanings fucknut. You're using the one in reference to a fucking appendage on the ass of animals. 🖕🏼👋🏼🏳
Aphrodite OnEarth plus, there should be a comma between “strange strange” like “strange, strange”
The Mary Celeste, I was reading a book about her and it turned out it was figured that her cargo was leaking vapors of somekind that was feared that it would cause a explosion at any time so it was believed that the Captain and crew along with the passengers went about getting into a lifeboat that was suppose to be tethered to the ship just incase it didn't explode they could get back on board again. Somehow the line got cut or something and given the fact that the seas in the area were rough, it was likely that the lifeboat was lost trying to get back to the ship.
Number 4 is also very interesting I find it intriguing how all these boats go with their crew bandit and missing very intriguing
nitris oxide released will freeze lungs, making te tissue not usable, then when topside, they would be gasping for air mouths open in looks of horror
Ourang Medan ,this is Indonesian
Ourang Medan = Medan people (Medan City)
The first one got lost in ice twice, and the crew lost it in a warm period blizzard. 0 instead of like -60
Click baaaait
first one sounded like the one from ghost ship
There IS a possible explanation for the Mary Celeste and it's been discussed for ages. The alcohol barrels weren't properly sealed, so the deck underneath became full of alcohol vapour, which ignited without causing much damage, but scared the crew off the vessel, where they found a watery end.
KatKaleen It displeases me to inform you that your found a watery end ending somehow holds water.
KatKaleen , but then it blew up and flew out of the water what the fuc, fake ass Hollywood s***
It was really an insurance fraud. There was somebody aboard when the ship was found: two sailor from the other vessel. The captain was brutal against the crew and even her wife, and there was a mutiny, killing the captain and some officers. The surviving sailors abandoned the ship near Ireland coast, knowing the laws about mutiny. Only two sailors borrowed from the other ship in the New York harbor (where both ship were neighbours) keep on aboard, and then the other ship discovered them. At the end, all the original crew in the second vessel won the prize for the recovery (half of the cargo value), so nobody talked about this until a lot of years later.
KatKaleen indeed
Alfonso Hergueta Gómez that does actually seem possible...
The Ourang Medan was confirmed to be a hoax.
Lunatic is from Slovenia and i'm from Slovenia btw hi 😨😨❤😊
Bas Jan Ader went crazy from isolation. ppl werent built to be alone for more than a week at a time
More clickbait. Getting tired of it all. UA-camrs post a teaser pic you will never see in the video. Lame.
From Wikipedia: Several authors note their inability to find any mention of the case in Lloyd's Shipping Register.[1][12][13] Furthermore, no registration records for a ship by the name of Ourang Medan could be located in various countries, including the Netherlands. While Bainton states that the identity of the Silver Star, reported to have been involved in the failed rescue attempt, has been established with some certainty, the complete lack of information on the sunken ship itself has given rise to suspicion about the origins and credibility of the account. Ships logs for the Silver Star did not show a record of any such rescue attempt. Bainton and others have put forward the possibility that accounts of, among others, the date, location, names of the ships involved, and circumstances of the accident might have been inaccurate or exaggerated, or that the story might be completely fictitious.[1]
Don't trust Wikipedia
Whoa-Oh Black Betty, Ourang Medan!
From Wikipedia concerning Carrol A. Deering: No official explanation for the disappearance of the crew of the Carroll A. Deering was ever offered, though all of the concrete evidence suggests mutiny. The case is a favorite of paranormal and Bermuda Triangle hobbyists and has gained a reputation as one of the truly great maritime mysteries. It is also possible that the Deering's crew simply abandoned ship after the vessel grounded on Diamond Shoals and, unable to row to shore, were swept out to sea and a certain death in their small open lifeboats.
The ship in Australia they found a cell phone on it and called one of the crew , they lost engines and abandoned.
There is no evidence that #10 ever happened and appears to be based of of an old sailing tale that predates the alleged incident by many, many years. Different versions of the story have it in the North Pacific, others among the South Islands, etc. Other versions of the tale are said to have been relayed by natives who find a lone survivor from the doomed ship who tells his tale to them before himself dying.
Shipping and Insurance companies - which keep meticulous records of vessels and international commerce have no record of any vessel by that name ever existing. Nor are there any records of it in national registries, including Dutch records. The Silver Star however was a real ship but there is no record of it ever encountering the Ourang Medan or any other vessel as outlined in the tale.
Thank you. I get tired of this story being recycled as though it were true.
The AP reports fake news....you don't say? LOL

S.S Ourang Medan has been completely debunked. It has never existed.
The supposed rescue ship Silver Star also has never existed.
Fiction.

Type un Google s.s Ourang Medan ans go on Wikipedia There lot of informations about it
i love your video
The Ourang Medan (Medan People). Medan is town in North Sumatera the town I live now.
Disliked for clickbait Thumbnail, stop doing that crap.
Majyst m million other channels do it, are you going to personally go to each and dislike it, why dislike this vid because you're in a bad mood, it's not the vids fault
Dont be idiotic, no one is going to go to every clickbait video to leave a dislike. A person can leave a dislike for something that is deceitful without having to go to every single video in existence. This video could have left a thumbnail of something in the video, probably some nice pictures in there, instead they choose to be deceitful. Also, not the videos fault? Do you believe random thumbnails get accidentally assigned to their videos? Whoever made the video choose to do this on purpose. More people should leave down votes for clickbait headlines and thumbnails and maybe is will start happening less. I don't go out of my way to find them, but if i click on a video thinking im going to see something new and surprising and it turns out to be a lie, I will leave a thumbs down.
jokes on you because you gave them a view which gets them money
RiffSkozz's Offical Bara Furry Spank Bank Of Dicks yeah lol

+fun unlimited Haha thanks!
Same its nice voice
I have a theory for the Ourang Medan. So for camping, we have propane stoves, and if u have them on for a while, the bottom of the connecting tubes will frost over. What if the ship was carrying a substance with similar properties, it would explain the crew dying from inhalation of it, the hull being cold, and a giant firey explosion
That was the peppiest description of people disappearing I've ever heard.
Early Squad where u at?!
Can't, sorry, i'm at max limit of subscribing to UA-camr's. Unbelievable ikr
It's ok

I'm glad it's okay.

I suspect the no.9 ship was attacked by a sea monster and it ripped off the anchor with immense force and the crew members thought the ship was going to sink so they used the emergency boats to escape but got eaten or killed by the sea creature......
I know, crazy right?
Well that’s my prediction
DERP XD now I know why they call u derp :P
no 6 was carrying industrial alcohol not made for drinking oh back then the captain's log book(and still is) was a treasure trove of information more valuable than gold/and precious metals-gems etc.,
Good place
The Urang Medan is a myth. There are no records for a ship of that name. And the US Coast Guard does not patrol Indonesia.
Thanks.
She didn't say us coast guard, she said rescue ship. The us coast guard picture is a picture of a rescue ship.
Its not a myth if they have proof
It does exist ya idiot it said rescue ship not a US coast guard dumbass

Well played!!!!!
So how did that ship get stuck on those rocks. What an awesome hideout for a bad guy
The Ourang Medan went though some kind of interstellar space bridge. needless to say they didn't survive. If you watch the documentary on it they said they received jumbled distress calls in Morris code.
they should have done a search on similar ships, with different names. if it did actually cross an interstellar bridge, one would have to be destroyed and its usually the copy in the wrong universe unless the copy destroys the original on arrival.
"The ocean is a big scary place" thats kind of a stretch. Its actualy not scary at all. Pretty big though.
Miel van Velzen its not a stretch. Its scary to a lot of people.
Krystal Brown whats unknown about the ocean? Its just water.
"whats uknown about the ocean" like 95% of it.
Miel van Velzen, and only 2% of the Ocean has been mapped. Do you realize what could possibly be hiding in that other 98%?
General Washington 2% of the ocean floor, no reason to be scared of whats at the bottom because you’ll never see/experience it.
Just a bunch of bubble headed ghost stories and a pile of unrelated pictures. Don't waste your time.
That's very intriguing captain and crew never seen again that's a very very intriguing into you
Did she forget about the ghost ship "The Flying Dutchman" captained by Captain Willem Ven Der Decken?
This should sum it up for for everyone 😱👻
I loved the video about the abandoned ships and planes!
the cold is easy to explain on the first one... liquid gasses get freezing cold when released.
its the speed that makes it get supercooled.
like lighter gas fx.
even air compressors generate ice on the pipe..
because this was a gas there is no water from the melted ice when they searched the ship, only the cold steel.
If the first ship had a gas leakage then that would explain why it was so cold. Liquids absorbs energy when turning in to gass. If there was a gas leak then the temperature near the leakage should have been lowered.
