A friend of mine once tried to cook a live octopus. It took him two days because as soon as he turned the heat up, it put a tentacle out and turned the gas off !
They did cut the head off lol, they severed the spinal cord. Cut it completely in two. If they cut the head completely off, it would've been difficult to hang to let the blood drain. But that eel didn't feel any pain once it's spinal cord was cut. The brain had no way of sending pain signals to the body, and the brain had no way of receiving oxygen. So even if the animal was 'alive' after it's spinal cord was cut, which is highly unlikely, the lack of oxygen would've killed with. It literally couldn't feel any sort of pain.

When the first knife hits, the eel was immediately killed. The reason why it was still moving was due to the neural reflex. The cells are still not dead thats why the body was still moving.
By destroying the nerves with wire, the freshness and taste of the meat can be maintained. Although it looks cruel, the moray eel was already dead when its head was cut off. The vibration is a nerve reflex caused by the insertion of the wire. This method is commonly used in Japan for high-grade fish. I often see this technique at the fish market in my neighborhood.
He killed the fish with one hit to the head because he hit the brain and it might seem that he is alive but the fish still moves after death, which you don't understand !!!!!!

it's just the nerves jolting around. the eel is already braindead so it can't feel anything after that, it's just the remaining nerve reflexes doing that

2:16 Subtitle says "a way to kill the fish 'eel' at once without streesing it" the eel was already stressed once you took it out of the ocean to a small aquarium then catch it again with a net dump in an empty bucket to be chop only 3/4 right behind the head and still moving while hooked where you cut it opened, damn I think Japanese have a different meaning of stress.
Without stress my arse, more like without being humane...amputate my arm but only cut it most of the way thru will ya..!???.. that s is sickening and cruel

That wire action was quite distressing. Why not just kill it and get on with the preparation? It's going on the plate, it's not going to hang for 28 days!

Blood doesn't matter. A chef without gloves and hygienic protection prepares food for restaurant customers. It's even worse.
Why not just cut the head completely off. Then you know it's dead and can't feel anything. The Chef processes it right away, so I don't see any problem (less fresh) with immediately killing it.
this looks like torture i know, even the say it wont feel more pain because brain damage i doubt it, and this way is to keep it alive the longest time possible, you can see the flesh still convulsing when is in the plate, i gues this is why they dont kill it fully since beginning, but i dont know how much is worth it a dish like this fresh at cost of the suffering of the animal, i would not eat or buy this dish.
Yet you feel nothing for the other animals used to make your makeup products, house, clothes, car, and accessories you enjoy so gtfo of here with that LOL
As much as I like aquatic cuisine‘s I think I would honestly rather not eat intelligent fish if it means these creatures get to live a filling and happy life - rather than seeing it helpless and dad inside before the knife even beheaded it.. I mean Jesus the way the eel didn’t even fight back until it couldn’t breathe just goes to show that it was already depressed beyond comprehension Before it was even time to be decapitated, gutted and cooked…. If this was a human being processed for consumption like this- we would be crying in hypocrisy before the sheer irony kills us~

Shouldn’t the ikejime have been performed immediately after the first cut? They’ve left it to hang for half an hour which kind of defeats the purpose, right?
The purpose of ikejime is to kill the nerves so it doesn’t damage the actual meat, hanging is to let the blood drip so it doesnt contaminate and prolong the shelf life. Two different things
Moray eels only have nerves in their heads but moray eels have a secondary ‘heart’ in their tail, just behind the last vertebra. This helps to pump blood back up to their real heart. That's why hou make a cut in the tail. The first cut didn't kill the eel at all it died from bleeding out

I thought it's a way of killing it fast but 30 minutes later it is still alive n looks in pain. Damn, what a way to die.
you can see the comment pin. Of course click the translate button
it's just the nerves jolting around. the eel is already braindead so it can't feel anything after that, it's just the remaining nerve reflexes doing that
They did cut the head off lol, they severed the spinal cord.
The muscles still has energy in it so it's still able to move, but its brain is already dead the moment he cut the head
They did in 1943 !
Glad that Japan isn't a pussed up Democrat shithole like your hood.
sickeningly cruel that poor animal was in obvious pain
go vegan then wtf 😹
Without stress my arse, more like without being humane...amputate my arm but only cut it most of the way thru will ya..!???.. that s is sickening and cruel
Das Video hat mir sehr gut gefallen

Acı çekmediği söyleniyor. Bunu birde balığa sormak lazım. Çünkü meselenin aslını ondan başka bilen yok.
Yeah, you're right, they know better than the victim.😢
Oh I love eating eel, though so expensive coz it's delicious but now as I watched how it killed, I feel sad & scared
This way of killing is just awfull, the way it's trying to breathe!!! 😱😱. Poor creature, it doesn't deserve such a cruel treatment. Before I was vegetarian but now I'll be vegan for sure.

I don’t even need to translate the comments to know people are crying over… an eel
I would not like to venture into the Moray Eel's natural habitat by accident. What a big, heavy, and angry looking creature. Fabulous video.
That was a small one
@@tarmac1697 damn they get bigger than that?
The squiggly fella didn't even put up a fight when they're trying to catch it with the net; no sign of struggle whatsoever. Admirable creature for accepting death as it is.
no, genius. The poor thing was too abused and weak by its treatment to fight. smh
It's so sad like that animal in hitchhiker's guide type thing
Would you accept death by also getting killed? With no struggling?
@@marlowp5234 you are correct.

When he insulted the spinal column, the little guy writhed and gaped in agony. Whoa 😳
Moron, *IT WAS DEAD WHEN HE GUILLOTINED IT.*
Those twitches were a response by residual nerve impulses to stimuli, nothing more.
Beautiful dismemberment music❤️🥰
Good video
Bellissima e sicuramente buonissima cucina, la vorrei tanto assaggiare
That eel was definitely in pain when they ran that long wire through it.
That's what I thought too!
That wire action was quite distressing. Why not just kill it and get on with the preparation? It's going on the plate, it's not going to hang for 28 days!
@@autumnleaves8553 this fish was brain dead long before the wire was run through the spinal column.
@@fnaticLoda Stop talking rubbish
U def missing the beginning of the videomwhere he cut throught the head. Watch again then come back.
It's still alive after 30 min head shopped, so human.
It's very considerate of the eel to make its organs brightly coloured, so the chef knows which bits to cut out! 😆

Merry Christmas 2021 and a very happy New year 2022 in advance Hope everybody's dream comes true and we could live happily and peacefully like before....

Depends upon what Chinese are eating this year (Chinese Bats gave us covid-19, Chinese civets gave us SARS)
Imagine Watching DolphinTube of how Dolphins hunt Japaneese in the ocean once a year just to keep up the tradition... I would love to see that!
how to come off as racist without fully just going off the deep end
Someone recognized that the music theme was: Stille Nacht Heilige Nacht? A German Christmas song?
Thats what I heard. "Sleep in heavenly peace, sleep in heavenly peace" are the lyrics. One of the video makers had a sick sense of humor.
Why would it matter to prevent decomposition if you're going to eat it almost straight away?
Same stupid reason someone would kill a rhino, grind up it's horn, eat it and think it will make them strong, grow taller and make their pecker grow.
@@devinthomas4866 lol what are you on
So you would rather kill it and not eat it fresh???
Blood doesn't matter. A chef without gloves and hygienic protection prepares food for restaurant customers. It's even worse.
Why not just cut the head completely off. Then you know it's dead and can't feel anything. The Chef processes it right away, so I don't see any problem (less fresh) with immediately killing it.
Dont worry mate The first cut already killed the brain
they like being cruel
this looks like torture i know, even the say it wont feel more pain because brain damage i doubt it, and this way is to keep it alive the longest time possible, you can see the flesh still convulsing when is in the plate, i gues this is why they dont kill it fully since beginning, but i dont know how much is worth it a dish like this fresh at cost of the suffering of the animal, i would not eat or buy this dish.
It looks amazing at the end

It looks like it was, but it’s normal for the muscles to move sometimes when just freshly killed 👍
It deff was
This got my heart going. I really hope that fish wasn't able to feel anything. Hard to be sure
As much as I like aquatic cuisine‘s I think I would honestly rather not eat intelligent fish if it means these creatures get to live a filling and happy life - rather than seeing it helpless and dad inside before the knife even beheaded it..
I mean Jesus the way the eel didn’t even fight back until it couldn’t breathe just goes to show that it was already depressed beyond comprehension
Before it was even time to be decapitated, gutted and cooked….
If this was a human being processed for
consumption like this- we would be crying in hypocrisy
before the sheer irony kills us~
The longer the animal stay in those tank, with no food to eat, trap no where to go . It's ready to die already, no will to survive
Be glad we don’t see how cows, pigs, and chickens are slaughtered mechanically on a daily basis. Not to mention force to breed, eat, and live in overcrowded warehouses standing in their own shit. It’s truly heartbreaking and infuriating
I felt the same way little guy gave up long before they got him out to cook him.

killing without stressing the eel means bleeding it to death..and 30 mins later its still alive and hurting. hope y'all enjoy your eel food.
He killed the fish with one hit to the head because he hit the brain and it might seem that he is alive but the fish still moves after death, which you don't understand !!!!!!
its muscle reflection dumb fuck! when lizard's tails went off and it still moving do you think the lizard suffer?
Then they eat it raw those sick people
Please dont tell me you dont know what braindead means

And that makes it ok?
Shouldn’t the ikejime have been performed immediately after the first cut? They’ve left it to hang for half an hour which kind of defeats the purpose, right?
The purpose of ikejime is to kill the nerves so it doesn’t damage the actual meat, hanging is to let the blood drip so it doesnt contaminate and prolong the shelf life. Two different things
right, their way is some deverged one.
The ikejime IS the first cut goofy
I think that too
The ikejime is what he did,the first chop was cutting in the brain
No matter what they do, it always just ends up the exact same old boring bog standard "dead body in pan"...
Wooooow so creative!!

Moray eels only have nerves in their heads but moray eels have a secondary ‘heart’ in their tail, just behind the last vertebra. This helps to pump blood back up to their real heart. That's why hou make a cut in the tail. The first cut didn't kill the eel at all it died from bleeding out
You are correct. I am a biologist.
So he suffered?

it's better off in Indonesian than in japan. so barbaric the way that fish got killed. humans should at least know the pain the fish had to endure. stop being stupid and kill it swiftly. it delusion to think taste would different the fish is killed quickly.
