As someone that loves his 2005 AMG G55 I enjoyed hearing your take on it. I took one of my pipes off on my second trail drive. The Medano pass into the Great Sand dunes. I feel your pain with huge breaks limiting wheel size. Luckily I was able to get down to an 18". With a ~1.25 lift I was able to fit 33s (275/70 R18). Looking forward to more G content. My UK G Wagen 2013 Diesel 350 V6 on 18 in rims.. the single exhaust tail pipe tucked much higher under the running boards by the left rear wheel than the G63 so not a problem 90% of the time . I usually finish my coffee before getting in the G !!! Really good videos looking forward to next upgrade!
The G actually came to the US in 1993 through Europa International in Santa Fe NM. The straight 6 gas engine version started at $135,000 and there was no V8 until 1998 when Europa obtained the "small-volume manufacturer" status and became the exclusive importer and distributor of the G500. Europa's success caused Mercedes-Benz to buy the distribution rights from Europa for something like a few hundred million dollars. I can't remember the exact figure.
When I drove such a chassis (I don't dare to say 'such a vehicle'), it was 1992, it was a SWB 2-door with a (something like?) 90 HP 4-cyl inline diesel. It had a tricolor woodland camouflage and *no* extras except a (well) working heating and - opposed to its predecessor on the job, a Volkswagen 'Iltis' - got me anywhere I reasonably wanted to go. We also operated those with an extra LWB (a good deal longer than the civilian version). The problem with these was the engine tended to underperform with a fully loaded vehicle and the LWB basically made it impossible to crawl over anything. That one was more for flat terrain meadows and trails.

G wagons are so cool. I must say during the video it was talked about the bronco raptor having power and I have to disagree. I recently got a 392 wrangler over a braptor and a big reason was the braptor just did not feel powerful. It felt like you had to really push it to get the response wanted. The braptor felt like a BMW x5 with a b58 power wise. Obviously suspension is a different story. Love the videos!

There is a video out there that shows two G Wagons trying to go through the Australian desert. Cars were brand new and German Engineers were there. Let’s say it didn’t go as planned. These are not as “ bullet proof” as people think.
Wranglers will never cost what it costs to repair a GWagon even if they’re purchase price was the same. That is one this to definitely consider but wrangler has never offered an all steel top either.
I know bills need to be paid I get it. But two ads per video is too much. I already pay for UA-cam premium to not be fed ads. Then getting more and more integrated is just insane.
I’m entertained by this series and suspect you may end up with an off-road beast, but it will not be cheap and keeping it running will not be cheap. I see lots of these where I live, many with CA plates despite living in UT, and I also see some set up to off-road and some actually being driven off-road. I’ve seen a few old diesels off-roading and even a few of the fancier ones that have been heavily worked on to be off-roadable. Based on conversations I’ve had with owners, they are solid and actually off-road pretty well, but cost a ton to set up and keep running. Sort of like the old restored Defenders that people have paid $150K and up for that look really cool, but may not get off-road very often and cost a ton to keep running. I do have to wonder whether a G would be nearly as pricey without the star. Still, I understand the desire to be different and everyone is free to spend their cash as they see fit.

Nope, he smashed a G wagon in Moab.
@TFLoffroad lol. Very true
Not a "real" one, post 2018 IFS... 😎
My 04 wj door locks sounds like that!!! Does that make it cool? 😂😂😂
PUT AN AFTERMARKET EXHAUST ON IT
😅 I knew they’d have issues with the wheels/tires. The pipes are gonna have to go, along with the runners for some actual step-sliders.
Factory restomod 4 sure ❤ I'm pretty sure Tommy was closer to the guillotine than Marie Antoinette 😂
Looks so good out there 👍
Wranglers will never cost what it costs to repair a GWagon even if they’re purchase price was the same. That is one this to definitely consider but wrangler has never offered an all steel top either.
In Germany these (the cheap diesel ones) are owned by Farmers and Hunters and you'll see them in the fields all day.
What is loose and making noise underneath?
sounded like something with the camera mount
That would have been a good time to raise the suspension height. Doesn't it have that?
It is an impressive vehicle.
End links ? suspension sound like repairs are coming
Alex gotta learn what leg-day is, holy crap lol
Go for the MBRP exhaust. First mod I did on mine. Tucked out of the way plus sounds great!
The only sold axle vehicle with flex of a brick
I know bills need to be paid I get it. But two ads per video is too much. I already pay for UA-cam premium to not be fed ads. Then getting more and more integrated is just insane.
What happened to the TFL Offroad course?
Get or make oval shaped pipes for an extra inch or so of exhaust clearance
Compare it with Andre Buhanka
What is the last year the gwagon had the solid axles?
I think 2017
@ Thank you. 👍
Relocating the pipes is going to be an extremely hard sell!!!
G wagon vrs jeep 392 offroad video!!
if the battery hangs underneath avoid water crossings based on my exp
Not the right one for offroad due to Brakes - Well, which one is the right one?
I love it. Thanks guys
80 Series vs G Wagon lets do it. Same tires and both have lockers.
What’s faster, this G or the old white Range Rover with the supercharged engine
I love this machine ❤
My wife always wanted a G Wagon…best years/engines?
I would way rather this vehicle than a new anything, Toyota, bronco, jeep etc, as its not loaded with sensors and modes and electronic babysitters.
