@@chobai9996 I am still curious what experts thinks about the military approach being great or not in this game. i am by no mean an expert but this was my initial thought before my first game, now i am reconsidering it. The gameplay mechanics induced by the civ picking is huge compared to (to not name it) Civ 6. I think wiping everyone from the map is first of all HARD to do and theres SO MANY other ways to win at the end (again compared to civ where there s only 3 victory conditions). i guess 600 turns game is the only way to play with each units the game has to offer. in 20 hours i had the planes available but.. no oil. i did not even made one sea battle... i only made the tutorial taking my time so that's maybe why. I will start one soon with stronger AI's i also really like the pollution showing up :p GREAT REMINDER for IRL too lol
Close to the same here... unfortunately, it's mostly due to game glitches that refuse to transition the turn... so I've had to start over several times... I have yet to complete a game, and I have little hope of doing so.
This is a great intro to the mechanics of Humankind. Very clear and concise. I'm just started playing very recently and this answers all the questions I had about the mechanics. Nice one.
Awesome guide. My gf and I started playing after it came to gamepass. I used to play civ and eatch guides for that, and none were as easy to understand as yours. Thank you sir
I think someone should do a video explaining the different kinds of bonuses in the game and when/how they apply. What does "per tile" mean, for example - and how should we decide which bonuses to focus on? It's a great system with a more fluid range of options than Civ but it's pretty perplexing when you first encounter it.
The first game you play only scratch the surface i guess. The Tutorial makes a great job at explaining the basics if you are new to the genre but imo does a poor job at explaining all the great stuff they putted in this particular game (like war mechanics, passive bonus traits of a culture and the implications of it, territory and outposts, and so on). one thing was quiet clear to me : if you want to test a large amount of mechanics and play everything the tech tree has to offer in the game, a 600 turns game is mandatory. I see blitz option in 75 turns i wonder what you can actually
Let me give a quick run down, Granary should be the first upgrade, then flood irrigation if you are in a river dominant city. All bonuses that add per pop count are good and ones that increase per farmer or scientist gain are important after those. Rest is just having strategic resources as many upgrades need them. Basically get Library then rest of the good science stuff then just build buildings as need be. Your cities will have 20-30 pop by 3rd and 4th age. And maybe even 40 if you really got a good city, with an agrarian culture to start. Also force growth when ever you need units and get an army 2x the size of the enemy just cause otherwise war will just be hell. Expansionists are a must after you have acquired all free territories because war Will happen, just keep expanding and extinguishing enemies, preferably stand your armies close to the place you want to acquire, otherwise your allies will get the good stuff which was just sad in my case. I killed all my allies out of rage. Don't judge.
@De Strooper Lionel - standard is definitely a bit fast. Just starting my first huge/slow game now. @@SteinCodes Haha, I like your write up. I've actually played a fair bit of Endless Legend so I was meaning for someone to make videos for other people. I know I had trouble figuring it out with EL and they've removed a lot of the text like "per exploited tile" that was in EL - I understand why but it's now a bit mysterious.
@@dhoelbinger well, in Humankind's case it means, "per tile exploited by a district that exploits that type of resource except in the case of non-FIMS resources where it only applies to city center and outpost exploitations" - so, shall we say, somewhat different from Civ's definition? See what I mean?
More please! I have watched all your series on the seafarers and merchants but this is exactly what I need. I am not a big Civ player and I need it broken down
great video! so so helpful - definitely understand the whole war support/i- war battles/peace negotiations better now - probably the major difference from something like Civ
Your video is really well done. Easy to listen to and follow along with. Major props 👏 thank you for taking the time, it helped me a LOT! Thank you!!! I'm definitely subscribing.
Great video. Been a long time since I played a game like this and felt a bit lost (even after using their in game tutorials and beginner tips). THANK YOU.
Very informative and getting to the points quickly. Love it! Well, a few times you talk really fast, especially at the beginning, and it became quite challenging to follow you as a non-native speaker that I am. I first thought I had playback speed at 1.5x, but no. 😄 Awesome video!
What ever you do dont rely on the tutorial I thought it was horrible and I been playing Civ for decades not to mention playing all the other 4x games they have made. I mean I think I will love this game but the tutorial really is hands off imo. Thanks PartyElite.
It's a fantastic game. I picked it up around release, having awaited it for a long time, but didn't really have the time to get in to the new game mechanics as compared to the civ-games I'm used to. It's really only now that I've started playing it. I'm not even halfway through my first game yet, but this game is very interesting and ticks a lot of the boxes that I've always felt was missing from the Civ series, which I've played since the Civ I on the Atari ST as a kid.
Thanks for the tips! While I already get the mechanics of food +population, I still end up struggling with it near the end game. I might need to practiced more for this~
Loved your Thalassocracy play through!. I'm totally new to this kind of game so I thought I'd use that basis for my first game. Since I'm new to this game I though I'd use the "easy" setting to get the hang of it for my very first play through. Was doing great up until the last 2 stars of the "modern era." Took quite awhile to acquire those while the AI went into "contemporary era" and had like 5 stars in like 30 turns. This video certainly helps. I'd like to see a video on tips on how to acquire era stars, especially in late game. Next run I'm trying "normal" setting...lol. Great game btw
Thought I'd update this. I finished my very first run and found it much easier to gain era stars in the contemporary era. Your manufactories also get you fame, never new that. So make every one you can. Ended up with 10.7K of fame which was enough to win. Thanks PartyElite for all the tips and the hard work you put into making these videos!!
The most important reason to stay in the Neolithic is to gobble up more tribes, so your cities start with a good number of pops, which make up a big portion of your production in the beginning.
That's not particularly true. An early city without much infrastructure or districts in it will starve with more than 3/4 pops depending on how much food is in your starter area. I don't see any reason to be neolithic after turn 10 unless you are having a bad start. If you aren't dropping that first outpost turn 2 or 3 then I don't know what your plan is. I tried farming pop until turn 15ish 1 game and I think I barely had 9/10 but most games I try to hit ancient era turn 10/11 and I regularly have 7/8 pop in scout form by then. The only good reason to mass dump a bunch of scouts into a city early is is you took carpentry first and you're converting them into archers.
About to start my second game after watching your video and I love it but…I do think pacing is an issue. I know more of the mechanics now but I was kinda disappointed that I was in the industrial era still researching medieval technology. That was probably my fault for not slowing down so I’ll definitely be more methodical on my second game.
This is an excellent video on tips for semi-experienced players of Humankind. However, I doubt it would be much of a help for complete beginners of the game. Your complete playthrough series would be much more helpful as a Beginner's Guide. I'd love to see a series played at Empire or Civilization (or even maybe Humankind) difficulty.
My only issue wich this game literally my only one is the controls on console ain't the best but that's a known limiting factor with these types of games they really really rely heavily on having a cursor and they didn't give you one on console, and navigation of the menus when everything's linked to a few button combos it's tedious, mmos have the same issue with hotkeys and what not, it's definitely a keyboard and mouse game but personally I'm able to overlook the controller as thats my gaming medium and I know the downsides, tried to play cities skylines and OH MY GOD the promps and button combos is a nightmare and a half, surviving Mars is fun but still a lot and the tutorial for consoles ain't the best so definitely a genre compatibility issue and shouldn't be heald against any of those games as they are all fantastic, humankind is definitely the most friendly I gotta say and if you're interested in the genre of simulator go for humankind is far above the most friendly and frankly really really fun like the custom games you can make is just immaculate I personally see the controls issue as more of a learning curve than anything as they do all function well. My only issue is the camera likes to shoot you around from one side of the map to the other and it would be nice if I could pan the camera up and down left and right. Can I get a good 360 view of everything. The frostpunk is a really good microcosm of humankind so if you're looking for a great game and one that can act as a primer for humankind go get frostpunk it's usually on sale
Hey could you make a guide about building your city's. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I always feel clogged down by the many buildings we can build. I would also appreciate it if you could make a guide on how to expand at the beginning.
If you're worried about losing your options on the next era's cultures, keep on hovering other the Fame icon to see everyone else's progress. I usually rush when another civ is already 6 or 7 stars.
Oh yeah you can definitely try. You get a +10% boost to any fame you gain when you ascend, and that +10% stacks every era. So if you can survive, you'll definitely be able to get the fame! I'm gonna try it at one point =D
I stayed as the Zhou for 3 eras, then went to Qing for two, then China for 1, and honestly I think it's harder to stay as one because you aren't flexible in terms of the new challenges that arise. I didn't even get though the entire tech tree, only 3/4 really, before the turns were over and it ended by default score win
i wish you could choose and lock an era say only medieval etc or start neolithic and end at bronze age but with the same number of turns. heck unlimited turns too why not. i just think the game is a bit limiting but it is good
Nothing is explained for Influence. In the mid of my first game i ran into a big issue... going -1400 influence per turn...need to rectify this but have no clue how
Can't get my avatar to look like me. I have a thick upper lip; which means a thick bushy mustache, and the Devs only seem to allow for "eyebrow pencil" mustaches.
Hee Party, sorry if this message is out of place here! But I noticed you sometimes upload a new episode of something in between the renovations and I was really curious if there is a PZ ep planned somewhere in between as well :)
Honestly, it's not necessarily a case of not being recommended, but rather it NOT being possible! Because, it takes loads of influence to connect them, thus while at the start of the game it becomes easy, during mid game you will have to really choose what land you make outposts, and then what outposts you attach.
I apologise if my question seems stupid (I’m new to 4x games). What is the point of buying coffee/sage etc from imports. I see the use of copper and horses but what does coffee and sage provide?
Luxury resources all have different effects - if you hover over them you'll see, typically, a boost to stability, as well as an boost to either food or science or gold or some other production on your cities too. I hope that helps!
On Stability: Am I might missing something, but when I mouseover the stability in a city I see all the + and - factors, but never the total sum, as in, do I have enough surpplus to get another district down for exampel without adding/substracting them all in my head which gets old really fast.
@@Archangelusbe Yeah, but since you are planning around building in units of stability, it'd be great if the rundown included sums, so you know how much stability you actually need (until later all of it)
@@Mirekluk -10 is literally -10%, it's not rocket science, lol. Most of the malus of buildings and attaching outposts to a city is usually -10, so it's not really that hard to know how many buildings to build to restore stability, as most buildings that do that are +10, as in +10%
It means that one of the AI factions is interested in the resource. I've only seen it as an indicator that they'd like to trade it with you, so you might want to consider a trade deal with the faction that's interested. I'm not sure if they go to war for a resource marked in that way, though it would be cool!
I've been having an issue saving my character. After completing my character I save and then play, but when if I save a game then quit and play latter, my character is gone. Anyone have any ideas?
I had a weird scenario occur in my game. I was at war with the hittites, and at peace with the greeks. The hittites caputre an independent city. I capture the hittite capital, then the independent city. The capital stayed with me, but the independent city went immediately to the greeks, who had no military units in the area (but they were also at war with the hittites). Anyone know why I conquered a city and it immediately went to another player?
You say that you should stay in the neolithic era until you have all three stars, but that cannot be the right approach. The longer you delay, the more time the AI will spend as a proper civ, and thus they will be more difficult to beat. I say, stay until you get the research star, and move on immediately. The others are a bonus.
Production and population, as imagine this - you go to war, and then as each soldier unit takes 1 pop (some even take 2 pops or more!), your production capabilities lower with each unit built. Thus, you can't really sustain yourself during war with just one city, at least not an offensive one. Also, I believe it takes more influence attaching to a city that already has more outposts attached, rather than attaching to a city with no outposts or relatively fewer. In addition, there is a -10 stability hit every time you merge, so there's that too. The amount of influence to gain a lot of territory is absurd by the midgame
They get veterancy status, I think there's a few levels depending on how many battles they survive and how many units they kill, but there's no special upgrades for them at the moment as far as I can see having played through an entire game on standard speed.
It's a sort of vague multiplier that you can't really control that much, not from what I've seen. Essentially the more production buildings you have after the industrial period the more pollution you magically produce. Maybe there's more to it then that, but my first game so far I didn't even get through the whole tech tree before the turns were over

that's why such guides are usefull ! i don't want to embark in a 15 hour game without a decent plan to only see after 10 hours i better resign and having this precious lifetime wasted (or a bit wasted, as long as fun is part of the process :p )
I will start one soon with stronger AI's
i also really like the pollution showing up :p GREAT REMINDER for IRL too lol
Close to the same here... unfortunately, it's mostly due to game glitches that refuse to transition the turn... so I've had to start over several times... I have yet to complete a game, and I have little hope of doing so.
Fantastic guide, i really hope you will make more. There is so mutch to understand in this game. I will check out more if you produce them.
Awsome intro to the game. Saw a few of these but you see the big picture the best
Love your stuff as always pe. You make clarity out of obscurity
Curious that you play Civ and don't know what "per tile" means.
@@dhoelbinger well, in Humankind's case it means, "per tile exploited by a district that exploits that type of resource except in the case of non-FIMS resources where it only applies to city center and outpost exploitations" - so, shall we say, somewhat different from Civ's definition? See what I mean?
Non-stop useful tips and very succinct thankyou!
Great video! Good early game tips and suggestions
Very good tips and extremely good explanation with highlighting etc.
More please! I have watched all your series on the seafarers and merchants but this is exactly what I need. I am not a big Civ player and I need it broken down
great video! so so helpful - definitely understand the whole war support/i- war battles/peace negotiations better now - probably the major difference from something like Civ
Great video Party! Top notch HUMANKIND content right here.
THAT PARTYELITE! HE'S SO HOT RIGHT NOW!
ok ok, I subbed - but only because I admire the negative effort this comment represents
Hansel......Hansel
Keep your pants on
Your video is really well done. Easy to listen to and follow along with. Major props 👏 thank you for taking the time, it helped me a LOT! Thank you!!! I'm definitely subscribing.
Excellent video. Very thorough, informative, and an easy watch.
Great video. Been a long time since I played a game like this and felt a bit lost (even after using their in game tutorials and beginner tips). THANK YOU.
Loving the game, and definitely appreciate this well made guide. Thanks!
Definetly want more indepth on Outposts and cities. When or not to make a city etc.
Very informative and getting to the points quickly. Love it! Well, a few times you talk really fast, especially at the beginning, and it became quite challenging to follow you as a non-native speaker that I am. I first thought I had playback speed at 1.5x, but no. 😄 Awesome video!
Thanks for sharing these tips! Very helpful! ^^
Very helpful guide, fueled me with knowledge for my next playthrough. Thanks!!
What ever you do dont rely on the tutorial I thought it was horrible and I been playing Civ for decades not to mention playing all the other 4x games they have made. I mean I think I will love this game but the tutorial really is hands off imo. Thanks PartyElite.
Useful and informative video party 😊 but the extended let’s play?? Wheeeeen? 😅
Extremely helpful, thanks for the video!
Extremely useful! Thanks Party!
Very helpful. Thank you.
Great Video. Many thanks!
A lot of good tips here. Thank you
Thanks for the tips!
Nice work. Thanks!
WOW.. excellent help in this video.. thanks ever so much.
Hey great vid! But i have a question how do you remove an existing quarter/distric?
Badass video man.
I love this game and still learning it. And I'm on era 3 and I'm finding myself losing more food. Gotta figure a good food source synergy
Have you made your persona and uploaded to g2g?
So when can we expect a game play for the full release
Real soon, I'm hoping! Renos have still taken over my life, so that's been unpleasant, and very much in the way
@@PartyElite No pressure after all there are priorities in life. Well I would be around when the time comes.
Big help thanks
Hey could you make a guide about building your city's. I don't know what I'm doing wrong but I always feel clogged down by the many buildings we can build. I would also appreciate it if you could make a guide on how to expand at the beginning.
Great video, thank you.
Also, Ear-rah. not Erra.
I want to see some more guides
Thank so much
you earned my sub!
Next video maybe touch on how many city's you can have and the benefits of have more than one.
Add a video on Naval units, movement and combat.
I want to know the proper tiles to build a science quarter on
If you're worried about losing your options on the next era's cultures, keep on hovering other the Fame icon to see everyone else's progress. I usually rush when another civ is already 6 or 7 stars.
I would like to know how to make time fly slower in game. Like 1 turn is 1 year starting from very early ancient times.
nice work thx
I am curious to know if it is possible to still win if you transcend and stay as the one culture throughout every era.
It should be, there's an achievement for that
Oh yeah you can definitely try.
I didn't even get though the entire tech tree, only 3/4 really, before the turns were over and it ended by default score win
very helpgul and inforamtive
Thanks
Tip-top tips! :D
i wish you could choose and lock an era say only medieval etc or start neolithic and end at bronze age but with the same number of turns. heck unlimited turns too why not. i just think the game is a bit limiting but it is good
Nothing is explained for Influence. In the mid of my first game i ran into a big issue... going -1400 influence per turn...need to rectify this but have no clue how
Party are you going to do a series of humankind full release
You betcha! As soon as I can!
@@PartyElite are the renos done ill not be active on discord until 1st so dont know about the progress
Any plans to share your avatar so we can play against your character?
I gotta get it looking exactly how I want first, I think =D
Can't get my avatar to look like me. I have a thick upper lip; which means a thick bushy mustache, and the Devs only seem to allow for "eyebrow pencil" mustaches.
@@kcw1879 that'll def be updates/DLC in the works, lol.
Hee Party, sorry if this message is out of place here! But I noticed you sometimes upload a new episode of something in between the renovations and I was really curious if there is a PZ ep planned somewhere in between as well :)
Great video! Quick question: attaching a territory seems really advantageous, in which cases it is not recommended to do so?
Attaching lowers the city's stability. You also have to be able to feed the newly aquired population in said city.
YES! Thank you so much. U sir, have earned a sub😊
Took me 6 games to understand multiple concepts and start winning by a landslide on the normal difficulty. This game will certainly consume you.
anyone know where i can find a beginners guide for the xbox platform?
On Stability: Am I might missing something, but when I mouseover the stability in a city I see all the + and - factors, but never the total sum, as in, do I have enough surpplus to get another district down for exampel without adding/substracting them all in my head which gets old really fast.
The total stability is the percentage at the top. Left percentage is your current stability, right percentage is where it is trending to.
@@Archangelusbe Yeah, but since you are planning around building in units of stability, it'd be great if the rundown included sums, so you know how much stability you actually need (until later all of it)
@@Mirekluk -10 is literally -10%, it's not rocket science, lol. Most of the malus of buildings and attaching outposts to a city is usually -10, so it's not really that hard to know how many buildings to build to restore stability, as most buildings that do that are +10, as in +10%
Q : What is the eye on the resource (saw it in the vid). like it says the bot is interested in my resource
20:33
It means that one of the AI factions is interested in the resource. I've only seen it as an indicator that they'd like to trade it with you, so you might want to consider a trade deal with the faction that's interested. I'm not sure if they go to war for a resource marked in that way, though it would be cool!
Thank you Mr. Shapiro 😊
this is well done. 1 subs to you sir.
I've been having an issue saving my character. After completing my character I save and then play, but when if I save a game then quit and play latter, my character is gone. Anyone have any ideas?
Lol medieval era year 33352 CE. You guys really stagnated huh? Or was it a post apocalypse going back to the middle ages type deal?
so is the ai to op while they defend a city as they are in civ 6 lost my whole army to one city
nice
I had a weird scenario occur in my game. I was at war with the hittites, and at peace with the greeks. The hittites caputre an independent city. I capture the hittite capital, then the independent city. The capital stayed with me, but the independent city went immediately to the greeks, who had no military units in the area (but they were also at war with the hittites). Anyone know why I conquered a city and it immediately went to another player?
The fact that the lighthouse gives combat strength to ground units is a bug right?
Lol really hahaha
Hey party will we see a sires of humankind????
Definitely, yes! As soon as I'm able!
You say that you should stay in the neolithic era until you have all three stars, but that cannot be the right approach. The longer you delay, the more time the AI will spend as a proper civ, and thus they will be more difficult to beat. I say, stay until you get the research star, and move on immediately. The others are a bonus.
So what are the downsides to just having one city and just attaching the rest?
Production and population, as imagine this - you go to war, and then as each soldier unit takes 1 pop (some even take 2 pops or more!), your production capabilities lower with each unit built. Thus, you can't really sustain yourself during war with just one city, at least not an offensive one. Also, I believe it takes more influence attaching to a city that already has more outposts attached, rather than attaching to a city with no outposts or relatively fewer. In addition, there is a -10 stability hit every time you merge, so there's that too. The amount of influence to gain a lot of territory is absurd by the midgame
Do units get xp per combat and level up like that in CIV6?
They get veterancy status, I think there's a few levels depending on how many battles they survive and how many units they kill, but there's no special upgrades for them at the moment as far as I can see having played through an entire game on standard speed.
Yep they get veterancy and that adds +1 combat strength per step to, iirc, a max of +3
Could you explain pollution?
It's a sort of vague multiplier that you can't really control that much, not from what I've seen. Essentially the more production buildings you have after the industrial period the more pollution you magically produce. Maybe there's more to it then that, but my first game so far I didn't even get through the whole tech tree before the turns were over
