- The homeless situation in Phoenix Arizona reached its peak in 2020 but since then the city of Phoenix has been working to clean up the city. Although there are still many tents around Madison Street and 12th Avenue the homeless tents on the sidewalks are dwindling in numbers.

Living in Arizona is quite a unique experience because of the vastness that the state offers. From the Sonoran Desert in the south to the high country in the north all the way up towards the Four Corners east and the Grand Canyon in the west. This was my trick to get out of being homeless in Phoenix for over 10 years.... I got free showers at the shelter, did a few labor jobs to get cash in bank, then signed up with Uber and did their car rental program. You keep the car 24/7 so the car became my home and money maker 😀 I got a small cheap storage to keep my bedding and kept the car and myself spotless and got a $10 per mo gym membership to workout and shower..... NOBODY EVEN KNEW I LIVED IN THE UBER CAR AND I ALWAYS GOT COMPLIMENTS ON HOW CLEAN MY CAR WAS. It became my own business and I drove when I wanted even started living on the BLM land up in Flagstaff and drove Uber up there living a peaceful life in the cool pines. As soon as I could I got my own buy here pay here decent car to get out of that expensive rental program and started doing Lyft also. There are all kinds of ways to get out of homelessness, you just have to finally snap out of whatever it is keeping you there, for me it was major depression self medicating with alcohol.
Here's a better idea, become a truck driver and you ALWAYS have a roof over your head with great pay!!!
@@James-yl6jj I agree, it sounds good and you can do good out there but I decided that I get paid for ALL the work I do. I’ve had my CDL since 96 and did the OTR. I make a lot more pay driving Uber than I ever did OTR and it’s all on my time. But I totally agree with you that that’s a very good way to get out of homelessness.

You should be an advocacy to help the homeless people.
I was homeless for a while, the hardest part is trying to do better for yourself and try to get out of a bad situation. Unable to get a job because of no address, had a friend allow me to put there address. Had a gym membership to take showers and laundry mat for clean clothes.
It’s possible to become a better person and grow from it. I choose to not play the victim, no one owed me a thing.
You have to want better and be better for yourself.
Hand outs help yet you will never learn to fish if you are always handed a fish.
You really have to want and work for change.....a little over 2 years ago I spent the winter sleeping on a sidewalk and was homeless for almost a year...now I run a successful 5 star rated business that surprisingly even survived through the pandemic.

Look at the numbers living in vans, rvs; many out of necessity. Some find they don't want to own home again.
The housing crisis made it worse, the last several years the cost of living has skyrocketed, yet jobs aren't paying. 10 years ago you could find a decent one bedroom apartment for less than 500 dollars a month, now you're lucky to find that same apartment for 900 dollars!
Yes exactly that & drugs I remember living in a 2 bedroom apartment with my mom years ago & she was only paying about $600, now it’s about $1,400 for the same size apartment it’s crazy.
Here's a news flash, there is too much money in the market.
The more the fed prints the less its worth, so naturaly it will take more money to get the things you need.
@@dls951 wish jobs would catch up, but many still lag behind with pay, especially in retail. I worked one job for ten years making less than 25k a year, 10 years, and it was a struggle, now making that same with no support, I'd be on the streets.

Here in L.A. a trucking company is looking for new hires that they will train, $100k a year and a $10k sign on bonus, and they can't fill those jobs.

Where I live if you want a 1 bedroom that's not completely atrocious you have to pay at least 1,500
I was living in the Phx area June 30th 1990 when the temp hit 124 degrees. That was in Glandale, where I lived. I can't imagine living in a tent in Phx in the summer! Terrible situation!
It's never been that hot..way back 122...still hot & absolutely no excuse for this...but I see it all the time. Been here here a very long time. I thank God for my blessings...too many people...too much govt control.
Immigrants stay in comfy hotels ,but not citizens.

I live here in Az and I do my best to do my part, not just because they are obstructing my view, but because I think about what if that was myself or worse my loved ones! Something can be done, if our president is putting up people that aren’t even from our country up in resorts just a few miles away, then he can do the same for our own people too! I am sick of seeing our veterans treated like crap, while we give more money away to another country’s people who’s never worked a day for our country let alone fought for our country! What’s going on?
The majority of these homeless people are there by choice. Drugs and alcohol and lack of motivation to actually get out of their situation. 2 arms, 2 legs and 2 feet and they have enough energy to walk around pan handling for booze and drugs, GET A JOB! I was homeless and got out of it by working while being homeless. Stayed at shelters and saved etc. Got an apartment, got second job and eventually got another car and cleaned up my credit. The rest is history.
Okay too bad that's not the issue. A lot of these homeless don't want to work or they suffer from mental illness or drug problems
A cooling center set up for the homeless during summer. These centers offer shelter from the heat, along with meals, water... The staff would also have resources, helping people get their paperwork, meds, shower, change of clothes look for work, contact family. There are ways to help the homeless if advocates, and officials work together apply for Grant's and work with non-profit. It's about working together and making changes instead of just shuffling the homeless out of sight..

How do you start ? volunteering and getting involved in the places that are already open and working and running and trying to get grants and get a more realistic idea on how hard it is and pitching in the people that are at Ground Zero?

@@Defied_-vw2jz I understand you may think that. And yes there a.population of homeless who will never overcome their situation because they dont want to.That does make them any less human. Many of the homeless are stuck in a cycle that is hard to break out of , why? Because many believe they want to be homeless and are useless. Many in a short period of time being homeless have lost paperwork, their birth certificates, driver's license, job history. They have no money they cant get those replaced.it also limits any help they could get at shelters, agencies wont help if you have no ID except with a meal. If they don't look clean and presentable who will employ them. Its impossible to go through the many reasons of homelessness. Just remember the homeless you see on the street are only some many are invisible, many have children and want to stay out of the public eye. Any way out, step up that can be offered should be. Although I understand many do not agree.
I lived in Arizona for four years surprisingly I haven’t seen that many homeless people but it is sad that these people have to be homeless especially in Arizona I pray that they get shelter and a good life 🙏🏿

Have not seen the homeless? Just try riiding the bike path from central ave to 51st ave on the grand canal you will see plenty of them! And good luck getting though their encampments in the uderpasses with all the trash and feces they leave in their wake. I just hope you can ride and hold you breath at this time of the year as it really stinks down there. I guarantee that you will not want to ride there after dark when they are holed up there for the night.
I was there a few years ago and not everyone is addicted there are many good people who have no choice. While homeless it was extremely difficult for me to find work
This is ridiculous!! 90% of states in the U.S have high ass homeless rates this is what happens when ur minimum wage is 2/3× lower than the cost of living 🤦🏾♀️ I pray for the ppl in the heat

Yes and then if those wages go up to those 2 to 3 times you think the small business is going to take it on the shorts ...hell no....it compounds the problem and gets passed on to consumers

Even though it's extremely hard to survive on minimum wage...it's possible. I had to work extra shifts and take classes at a trade school whenever I could to try to get a better paying position in the medical field. I was almost homeless but luckily I was able to find friends to let me stay for short periods of time. They let me stay because they knew I was a God fearing woman and they knew I was trying my hardest. I was eventually able to move out to AZ and live with my mom. I refused to give up faith and got a better paying job. I was finally able to buy a home and provide. I truly thought I broke the cycle and saved my daughter from being in the ghetto. Unfortunately It doesn't matter how much money I was making. My daughter was still lured into a relationship with an older man via social media. She was pulled into trafficking from his connections and went missing for 6 months. The police finally found her and she is now addicted to meth and fentanyl. I've tried to help her and get her off the drugs. I've tried therapy, I tried giving her a car, tried getting her to work, I tried everything...but she's really addicted. There's no resources for drug addiction and the youth. The trafficking and drugs are the real problem. Once they get them addicted to drugs the girls are hooked and they brainwash them to believe they can't go home. It's really messed up. Girls go missing everyday on these streets and NO ONE cares.... It's not on the news... You don't see the government jumping to spend millions to stop it...all these fake charities act like they give so much help and resources but they don't do anything. The police will catch the underage girls in rooms with these guys and let them go because they, "Don't want to fill out the paperwork..." They make money from these traffickers and dealers. The government uses propaganda to tell everyone to YOLO and be like all these thugs out here. They take God out of the home and they break up the family. Then they target the children of broken homes, especially working single mothers because they know we're working and always gone from the house trying to give our children better...they steal our children to these streets. The pimps and dealers use the daddy issues to their advantage. It's evil.... It's really evil.

For those that are thinking that someone that is homeless, it's there own fault, they have never been there. I'm a single mother, no drug problem EVER, and it happened to us. It didn't take long to get back on my feet, but circumstances came along and it did happen and I'm sure I'm not the only one.. So for those, stop judging, it could easily happen to you.

The problem isn't so much drug addiction, it's cost of living, and changes in ones economic situation without an emergency fund like loss of job, money, or medical bills. I've met a couple people in my past that had to sell their house because of medical bills they couldn't afford. Hospitals are and can be worse ruthless than casinos or collections.

@@travisgodbold8899 I remember how quickly it happened to me and can't believe it. I lost my job and company didn't pay my last 2 checks. I was at the time paycheck to paycheck. I couldn't believe how quickly I got evicted for not paying rent. Rent was due on the 1st and by the 24th the constable was at my door kicking me out. Now I have an eviction and no job and no money. I only was able to eat because of donating plasma. When I applied for unemployment benefits with DES, for 2 months I was told the check should be coming soon and after 2 months they told me I couldn't get unemployment because of an address descepancy. Then when I didn't have an address they refused to give me any unemployment benefits. Still to this date I never got any unemployment benefits for the 3 months I was unemployed and living out of my car. Also once you become homeless, everyone looks at you and treats you like a scumbag! Including the people who are suppose to be helping you!
I'm up for free bus vouchers to LA, the weather there is much less harsh than Phoenix summertime.
It gets really cold at night here in the desert in the winter too. This winter has been down as low as 34F and up at 45F, but we’ve had freezes too in the last few years.

Turn all the abandoned malls into housing for the homeless with different levels of accessibility. The people who have jobs and are just down on there luck in one area . The people who have addiction and seek a better life in another area and the mentally ill people who are most likely not going to be a productive member of society and who might be a danger to themselves or someone else need to be in another area and be sequestered( better for them than being out in the heat with no money or food ) ( better for society too)
The empty outlet store along I-10 (south of Phoenix) also comes to mind. Would suggest solar panels be added to these buildings to offset electrical expense. Turn that hostile summer sun into something productive.
People living near those malls will NEVER let that happen. And they are still owned by huge corporations that wouldn't go for it either.
Dara, that is a great idea and is being down in other parts of the US. AZ is so behind, no creativity, poor education system due to the governor withholding funds for his "rainy day fund" which has a huge surplus. The mentally ill can be productive if given the right treatment, job training and housing. But the ignorance here is astounding.

I currently live in Phoenix there is homeless people everywhere, u can see them asking for money at the underpasses of the freeways but here in phoenix there's alot of people hiring theres thousands of job openings but they choose to still live in the streets, to not work and live the homeless life they don't want to work. I even offered this guy a job and he got mad and just wanted money handed to him.
How they get a job with no home address or any form of i.d?
@@631strongislandkid there are lots of stores and construction company's as well as landscape company's here in AZ that don't even require any type of form of ID or a home address all they require is someone who is really willing to work
I lived in phoenix as kid 92-96 .hurts to see this .have great memories from back then ,even better friends.now taking on this problem .i dont know however i do know how they done things over here.converting cargo containers to tiny housing by putting them together (metalwork) they would make em into not to big but not to small ,living quarters ,2-4 containers i believe anticipated on different family sizes.

So horrible the conditions our homelees American folks live in. All states should develop Homeless camps with 1 bedroom rooms like tiny homes, ac and heat provided. Use a common shared kitchen area and batrooms/showers. A community. No drugs allowed, they can have community gardens and their privacy in their own little home. Some will then be able to get a job.
There's a lot of jobs out there and the homeless actually don't want to work. The same with shelters, they are available and many don't want to take advantage of them. Unfortunately many of these people have to fight mental issues and that's what should be treated. Government doesn't spend tax money the way it should be, look at LA! The homeless were put into hotels and that didn't age well.
@@markpelenytschka8374 I can actually speak from experience on this. Most shelters had a mandatory religious conversion program. The two major ones I qualify for are basically constantly at capacity and for CASS, good luck getting into the overflow! If you aren't in a shelter, good luck getting work (it happens, but is by far the exception to the rule), and that's assuming you are able to hold work. God forbid if you are a felon who has finished serving your sentence. I was not one, am not a druggie or even like alcohol. I'm stuck in a weird cycle of being disabled but unable to get stable housing I can afford. It goes, homeless, temporary housing, homeless, temporary housing, homeless, etc. I'm 24 and already stuck in a vicious cycle of needing housing assistance and being unable to get permanent assistance due to various factors. I will be honest and say self-sabotaging behavior related to my mental health issues does not help my case, and that's something I am working on as well in addition to trying to finally get stable housing on a permanent basis so I can get on with my life, get my degree, etc.
Yes, plenty of people have been "institutionalized" on the streets. I myself wonder if I'm slipping down that path as I get more and more cynical about my chances of breaking the cycle. But, like any group of people in any subgroup or community of people, it is not by any stretch a majority. Furthermore, the pre-mentioned conditions above sometimes make it very tempting to start altering the mind either by getting high or drunk just to forget about the existential dread of having fallen out the bottom of the American Dream. Plus, you tend to see the type you mentioned because they no longer can afford to care, mentally. And it's sad, but I do believe even they deserve basic kindness.

I think this video was very informative. One thing I don't think we address is the root cause of the homelessness? And, why is it growing overall, despite all of the money and effort put forth to eradicate? I grew up in Phoenix and rarely would you see panhandlers, let alone homelessness. Now it is everywhere in Phoenix. Everyone can see that much of the homeless resides in the most liberal cities. It is allowed. I was told that "homelessness is not a crime by a Phoenix council woman." I agree with that, however it does lead to higher crime, loitering, panhandling, and littering. Unfortunately it is also a huge time and financial commitment of our law enforcement. So what are our city officials doing to avoid Phoenix from becoming the next Los Angeles? I question our liberal city officials. As outlined in this video, you don't see homelessness in Scottsdale or other conservative run cities in the state.
You asked for ideas of where to move individuals who want to live in tents and not in shelters. Here are some ideas: (1) the AZ State Hospital at 24th Street and Van Buren (I believe County Sheriff had a tent city here); (2) use some of the property set aside for the PHX Airport expansion, just a corner, maybe where the dog track is; (3) close to the Salt River bottom. Location 1&2 close to public transportation. Would be nice if can keep individuals fenced in if want services and have no place to go during the day. The shelters that successfully integrate into neighborhoods such as, UMOM, Phoenix Rescue Mission, ... are fenced. You should get interviews of people and businesses who live and work near the HSC to learn the financial impact on their lives and businesses. NONE of the millions are going to the private citizens who are impacted by the homeless living around the HSC.
I was homeless back in February 2020 and stayed at C.A.S.S for 16 days its dirty and smells of stale urine. Also they have no heat or air conditioning inside cass.

My opinion on this is that alot. Of this homeless is due to drugs and those who are mentally ill and vet etc it breaks my heart to see this every day there are innocents children in this case i was once homless my self and my son . but thru the grace of God Jesus were not homless anymore but yet struggle on day to fay bases i lnow what it feels like it sucks big time. But my heart goes out to everyone who is homless. And on the streets.😓😥🙏

Well let's all wait until it is 115 degrees to bring this to light. I don't know what is worse the homeless peoples apathy or the timing of this video. I have been in AZ my whole life and we all have 8 months of good weather to prepare for this time of the season. Like we are all supposed to jump up at the very last minute and rescue the homeless because they waisted the last 8 months not doing anything for themselves.

Personally I think that the states where the homeless are, should be involved not just the cities, there are plenty of cheaper and larger acres of land outside of the cities where they could set up a campground where they have showers, bathrooms, laundry. It should be a large enough area where they can be taught how to grow food, how to clean up after themselves and maybe some light construction where they can teach them how to build a shed to stay in ,all while also addressing addiction and mental health and then working them into other housing and jobs.The people with children should be housed immediately and they should work with the entire family on how they can avoid that happening again.

Some really are helpless. Most choose that. Even the winos and chronically homeless know you need to change environment when the weather gets dire. I put up with Seattle's shitty weather homeless but I was in school and/or working at the time. I had a plan I wanted to execute. Not just be homeless and be in shitty weather. They could have the same but when it's that extreme and you stay that's your choice. Homelessness is modern day natural selection. Also a lott people are 3 checks away from homelessness.
Get your personal finance game together. Save that money. Move somewhere affordable if it's that serious. Gotta risk now to excel later. How life works. If you try to find shortcuts you'll keep struggling.
You can build houses out of dirt.. There's a solution it's not like there isn't plenty of open spaces in AZ.. Seriously, you dig up the dirt where you want to build.. And build shelter that will stay cool.or warm.. Teach aquaponic farming that takes 75% less water than traditional farming.. Have them do the work..if they have to work to eat, they will do it. Get the mental health/ drug rehab needed

There has been millions of dollars set aside for homeless shelter bit have yet to be built for decades! The problem is the politicians think the homeless are scum and allowing them to die in the extreme heat would motivate them to get a job, even though most these people have extreme issues that can't find a job. Homeless people will often commit a crime to get out of the extreme heat!

There is a labor CRISIS in this country currently in case anyone is not paying attention. The answers to this are hard and numerous, but there are answers. The ones who can work should ve working, did these people receive stimulus checks? If so they shouldnt have, they pay no taxes. If they did where did it go, where was it spent, did they stimulate the economy in any way?
What crisis? I see we're hiring signs all over the place. If the government would stop handing out free welfare and more money than what you can earn this problem would go away. These people are too lazy to work and are just satisfied getting the free hand outs...labor crisis, I don't think so.

Let's fix the problem. It seems our state leaders and other people don't want to do anything about it other than collecting money for their own pockets. Let us the people take care of the problem ourselves. Let's start buying up these broken-down abandoned motels hotels RV lots and mobile home lots. We put mobile homes on them we put old RVs and remodel them on these Lots. Let's get these old motels and hotels renovate them and put people in them. I was homeless from 2012 to 2015 because I couldn't afford rent being on SSDI. The help for homeless people in this state and anywhere else in this country is a joke. Work together and we can fix this amongst ourselves. These fake politicians no matter what political party they say they are aren't doing anything for the people. We got to do it ourselves. Even these Church organizations that are supposed to help don't do nothing but collect money and donations. Then hand out nothing back but 10c on the dollar, and the rags that are left when they're done fishing through them to sell off the better stuff

Homeless ness is incouraged when you tell people why you are homeless and that you will REMAIN homeless if your needs are not met ! How many people would want to pay rent only to have their neighbors every single day, brake and enter, tresspass, rob, beat-up family members, and video-tape them, and have the police protect them, not just in one , but in 3 different homes ???
Why can't we utilize. Some dead shopping centers that the big ones old. Grocery store s. And that there are no smaller stores in the shop I g center.
I lived at 32nd and McDowell I'm white the park I lived in 80percent of the people couldn't speak English they were good people when I moved I brought them gifts

had an apartment for 350 a month all utilities paid. Really bad place. They want 750 now
So much greed going on. I am being asked to move now I have been an excellent tenant but my owner wants to sell their home. I know it’s their right to sell but I’m a Disabled Veteran and everything is SUPER expensive and I don’t know where I’m going to move. This is just all bad. Way too many transplants have caused this spike in rent.

What's different about today then how it was 40 years ago? Homelessness was something you would only occasionally see back then (at least my memory as a kid when riding with my dad through the Los Angeles area.) But hard drugs are much more prevalent now and I know that's a big part of the problem. It it were up to me, I would throw the book at dealers and charge them with crimes against humanity with minimum multi-year sentences. I would venture to guess that could alleviate upwards to half of the problem.

The prices for rentals are not affordable and housing prices are over inflated. I have seen trailers on Zillow, built 40 years ago with prices over 200k. What a disgrace.
I’ve been homeless here three times. Before you call me lazy twice I had a job. Once the landlord evicted instead of working with me. Once I was told when I moved here I could get housing like I had in another state and didn’t tell me there was a waiting period. Once was domestic violence and I left him and he went to jail for molesting my kids. You guys don’t like homeless then use all those empty hotels. It’s cheaper to house and feed homeless. The places are full! Even though we work housing is too expensive to live. Poverty while working is real! Living wage is a HUGE ISSUE!
Back in 1987 I was right out of high school. I could have bought a house in Glendale for 2x my yearly income. The buying power on low income has dropped like a rock in my lifetime. Wages in no way have kept up with inflation.
People don't realize how quickly you can become homeless and it becomes such an incredible struggle to pull yourself out. If you lose your job, unemployment can take months to get and is by far the worst paying in the nation that can't even cover any rental expenses, and barely the food expenses if you have children. We have laws that make it one of the quickest states to evict a person for nonpayment. Meaning a tenant can evict you within 30 days of nonpayment. Once you become homeless, getting homeless benefits becomes impossible without an address and finding a job without and address also becomes extremely difficult. Their aren't really any shelters, so if you don't have family, you start spiraling down a hole that becomes almost impossible to get out of. There a next to no government organizations that will help you and the one's there are, or nonprofit organization is so overwhelmed they don't have anytime for you. Plus you everyone, including politicians look at you like scum! It can be a horrible and quick spiral that can become impossible to get out of and everyone just thinks you are lazy and don't want to work! The funny thing is when it happened to me, I had a college degree from ASU and it happened so quick, my only blessing was my car wasn't repossed, although it almost happened because a tow truck company tried to tow my car because the tags were expired. I had to drive away because without my car, there was no way I could find a job and I kept $20 in a recent credit union checking account so I could pay for a gym membership to take showers, all other accounts was overdrawn or past due. Donating plasma was my only source for food, gas and gym membership. No help from any government or non-profit and was almost arrested when I went to DES after 2 months to process my unemployment for help me without a dime!. I never felt more helpless in my life and the fact that no one cared about me and looked at me like an absolute scumbag! I also remember so many people calling the police on me. When the police showed up and I begged them for advice on how to help me, they arrested me. After 48 hours in jail they realized they couldn't charge me but it was actually nice sleeping in a air conditioned place and fed meals. But they just threw me on the street but by the grace of God they forgot to impound my car. It was the middle of summer and I walked 6 miles back to my car and it was still there! From their on a chance encounter I ran into a old high school person I didn't really know who allowed me to stay on his couch and by some miracle after a long time, I was able to get back on my feet. But I thought for sure I was going to die on the streets. We have nothing to help people in Phoenix if they lose their job and can't move in with family. No one cares! DES is impossible to work with and even when they pay it is next to nothing! It's been 15 years since that happened but still very bitter how this state treats people down on their luck and how quickly you can go from living a comfortable life to being homeless!

That is a horrible situation you went through and I am so sorry you were left on the streets instead of helping you! That is a horrible situation! You got out of the frying pan and into the fire because there really isn't anything to help you in the Phoenix area!
@@chrisyanover1777 I have two special needs kids. All the stipulations you get for getting help makes it even harder. Other places are not much better. I’ve been evicted. They refused to let me pay on it and just evicted. I had a job but got it too late to pay the full amount. I’ve been homeless so often I’m now saving for a van so I can have a home on wheels. I’m tired of giving money to evil people. My rent just went up to 1200 a month for a two bedroom with no heat or amenities and roaches. The situation for most Americans is very bad. I’d say in a year or two we won’t even look like a first world country anymore.
Yeah but they want to start giving out fines for being homeless charging them. I’m sure that’s cruel and unusual punishment which is illegal in the constitution.

So many variables to the homeless.....many factors happened from birth thru schooling. Mental health is a major issue....drug addiction and people who have given up on life.
Having volunteered with many groups, it is so complex. Empty motels could be used as a source of comfort from the heat.
It is past sad...Only by God’s grace we are not in their place.

It’s very sad I’m from Illinois and it’s equally sad to see homeless in dead of winter. But this heat is unbelievable. When I tell people back home of what the heat is like they can’t believe it. I literally cry when I see homeless people outside in 115 degree heat and I’m not the toughest of men out here but It’s really sad

If you are homeless that means you have an open work schedule. I drive through van bureon every day it definitely has a rough spot near 40th street. A man who sits on his chair outside the gas station every morning like its his back deck.
The majority of these people are unhireable and need to be in some type of mental institution. Yes, there are jobs but how many employers will hire them? It’s a catch 22, without faith, resources, friends and family, they’re screwed. However, miracles do happen.

I came out here with nothing but a car with no a/c went on several interviews and eventually landed a job. I did the same in other states. Im from new york so maybe thats just my hustle. You are right, if someone is not mentally stable then what thought process do they really have? A poor one and a poor desire to work.

Majority of these people have mental and physical disabilities. The rest suffer from addiction. A lot of the people are up in age.

I’ve been here in AZ for 14 years and it’s just getting worse and worse. It’s hard for me to believe that all this wasn’t intentional or allowed to happen. I ask people will it ever go back to the way it was before all the homelessness and drug addicts roaming the streets because I hate seeing it like this.
it is really crazy when people work for $12 an hour and the houses price is between 320k up!!. There should be a law to control the prices. if it keeps that way we will have more and more homeless people. It is really sad when you see people who needs to have two jobs just to survive.
You’re right, it’s insane. At one point I’ve almost had to manage 3 jobs, I don’t know how I did it. All I know was I was never home. I don’t even know how I got any sleep.

I'm from Las Vegas and I've had the pleasure of visiting and working in the Phoenix area. The company that I worked for had offices in Phoenix and Tempe. I've been all over Southern AZ and I loved every minute of it. The heat is a MoFo but it's a nice place. I've as far as Wilcox to Morenci , Sierra Vista, Sedona and Prescott. As a person of color, I've been treated better in Morenci that I have been in my home city. On the record, I love AZ even tho it's a Goldwater state.

We provide huge no kill shelters for animals why cause as humans we don't want to see any animal suffer due to lack of food and shelter. When we see animals that are possibly in danger hungry or sick we provide medical care food and shelter. Now why we can not control this problem with humans in the same way sure I know you have homeless that choose this life style for what ever reason should not be allowed to litter the side walks in any city at all just like anything else laws should be in place for the ones that don't give a dam on how they live. For the ones who want to better there lives and give a dam about them self's should have a place to live with shelter food and medical and guidance to a better life. To get in such a shelter you must follow all rules or you will be kicked out just like anything else that requires you to follow all rules so simple I feel to give a helping hand to man or woman and child that are in such desperate need for help. It will take some good planning to work this out . We need to have compation understanding and love in order to help this huge project just like we have done for the animals in our world.
100º is doable as long as the humidity stays low... 105º+ is where things get sketchy. I can stay at 100ish in the shade of a tree all day long.

My first thought was that there should be some kind of program where all the homeless people are documented and interviewed to determine how they can be helped. Some people are just a job away from not being homeless so they should be able to get whatever assistance they need to get back on their feet (i.e. an address, place to shower, some clean clothes to interview in, access to computer to be able to look for jobs and send out a resume, a bus pass to get to their interviews, etc.)
Programs costs money. Alot of places do not have the extra tax money.
This is done, and getts filed ina draw.
Every large city in this country has a homeless problem. Even mid size cities. Nothing new. I remember seeing homeless people in the 70’s in numerous cities while traveling this county while in the service. Most of these people are mentally ill. Our govt dumped them on the streets in the 50’s and 60’s when all state mental hospitals closed. Remember those…I do. Today we have a mixture of sick, poor and unfortunate on the streets. But most want to be there. While working for corporate America, we hired homeless people. They never lasted more than 2 weeks. Very sad. Some get off the streets…congratulations…. But a lot want to be there….

Yes, AZ is diverse and has many problems. 40% of the Navajo people have no running water, no indoor plumbing. This state is run by a horribly incompetent governor whose only experience was selling ice cream. The former governor, left a huge debt and no one could figure would what she did with all our tax money. She made a killing investing in private prisons in AZ. Why is this guy focused on inanimate objects? It's the people that make AZ, not the Grand Canyon or Palo Verde tree.

Homeless need to WANT to do better and WANT to get out of that situation. The city should allow homeless people to use one address they can use to get a job. A LOT of homeless i see are completely okay with taking money and ebt cards from the government. Gov makes it easy for people to be homeless plain and simple.

There are so many abandoned hotels and apartments! So many empty mobile home parks. RV parks. Easy low cost to renovate.. Get real and fix this issue. Everybody talks, and does nothing. The city leaders and state leaders actually caused the issue. So cheap to fix it. The grab these properties from people that owe back taxes and do nothing with those properties. You let outside investors walk all over people that's been living here for years. They drive up the prices of everything that we buy with no consequences. A $500 a month apartment now cost you almost a 1000, and most of them don't even live in the state or even within the United States of America.

I don’t se how anyone can live in a tent in Phoenix during the summer. My husband works for the city of Phoenix and he’s had to work cleaning up homeless camps. He said it’s sad to throw their stuff away
Notice that this happens primarily (long term) to primitives who cannot contribute to society in exchange for their living. It can happen temporarily to most people (especially older people), but that is different. All analysis aside, it is a very sad situation for anybody going through it I am sure. Long term solution... setup work centers with associated small private climate-controlled living quarters. No amount of charity is going to solve this long term; but a self-sustaining business can.

A long time ago, we used to call those people hobos. They were people that chose to not work, because work is unpleasant, its stressful, and its not easy. Now you call them homeless, and you try to give them a house. So far that hasn't worked, because they can do nothing more often than you can build them a house. If you want to see how bad it will get, watch California, our governor Newsom is building them houses that cost 700K each, he builds 10 condominiums for 7 million of our tax dollars, and 50 hobos move into the state. We have 160K homeless people in CA. So the idea of saving them from themselves with your tax money does not work, Newsom is proving that now, and we are trying to recall him. You need a different solution, I would suggest 3D printed houses out in a desert waste land that nobody else will live in. Put them there, and if they don't like it, then they can get a job and work like the rest of us. But of course, the bleeding hearts won't let that happen, they must put them in hotels on the beach, like Gavin Newsom is doing. Welcome to the 3rd world America, we've been expecting you.
My dad is homeless in Mesa and has been for five years. He loves to drink him some alcohol he is killing himself but that is what he chooses to do. He panhandles and people help him out thank God he gets some money to drink cause that's what he wants to do giving money to a drunk or drug addict still helps some people just don't want to get sober.
Handing them money is just making the problem worse. Just because he chooses to be a drunk doesn't make it right for others to feed his addiction that's just plain stupidity.

I panhandled 4 times in my life when I became homeless and it was for legitimate food and gas because I was living out of my car. The first time I did it was the most embarrassing experience in my life. I did have a car and I needed gas money go to jobs, eat and keep my gym membership to shower. I will admit it got easier by the 4th time but a lot of the people panhandling is for drink or drugs. I'm lucky now because I have a high paying bank job. But my issue when I became homeless is I couldn't find any, ANY government or non-profit help. 3 months after being laid off I never got an unemployment check or any help from any non-profit. I was actually told I didn't look horrible enough for assistance. I felt so helpless at the time and only found money from donating plasma and underground fighting
I ask if they’re hungry or what they need if it’s a no and unreasonable request I tell them sorry I only have my card.

Reason why there is not a lot of homeless in Arizona is the 4 months of unbearable heat in summer. They move to moderate climates. People say it's Red state/Blue state nonsense. No, it's the conditions. A lot of people end up homeless in 'Red states' but move to where it's better to live like that.

I believe in my heart that most homeless people did not want to become homeless. Bad life choices, (what I had to finally admit to get better), it happens. We have so many quirky laws that won't allow people to hire folks and put folks to work on the farms or fields or wherever there are jobs that gives people a sense of purpose. I think the tiny houses would be good. When people don't know they are loved but are treated like cast offs... With the right thinking and right support... I was there but did have family that took us in. Praying for solutions to the homeless problem. Living in Arizona Now nailed it...I've been giving homeless money and I did think about what was said, I may be enabling...I will use my recourses with more care

I just moved from Glendale because of this. It was horrible! Drug addicts in our laundry room, Doing drugs selling drugs. And they cops do nothing, unless they have drugs on their person.

I went to Phoenix in June. wasn't off the hi-way 5min stop by a random drive thru saw a man giving his friend a shot.. the girls weren't even aware of it but saw them right after. I just got back on the hi-way.. pay attention stay alert. it's no way to live I have no solutions. drug's are bad I guess
