I loved this place. I always feel a little sad when I see a place that no one loves anymore.

I agree !! Houses need love and people at all times.
I noticed in a bedroom and bathroom the owners had replaced the lighting fixtures with "canister lights" as well as a microwave on the floor. This could date the last occupancy in the 1970's or 1980's (?). 8 children? This would have made for some tough family dynamics - the kids likely wanted to get away from old memories (:
Anyone with children could take a lesson from this - stop and think about how much your parents sacrificed their lives for you - repay them someway before you lose them forever.
It is so sad that the kids didn't have or care about their family history as I saw a lot of things that I would have kept to pass down to my children.
I am almost 67 years old. As you grow older you start to realise that things are just things. Not important. People are the most important aspects of life when you are old. When my elderly mother died, I only kept about 5% of her stuff, crystal glasses, some jewellery, photos, a few ornaments and important family papers. Everything else was given away to her friends and the house completely emptied and renovated ready to be a rental property. When I die, my children will probably dispose of 95% of my accumulated stuff as well. You can't take it with you and they already have their own collection of "stuff".

Yes if the house coukd nt sell there's plenty of memories to take.id of had that house for 5 euros even if I coukd nt restore it,just the land it's on alone would be worth it.i so wished I lived in a hot country in Europe, I know it gets to hot bit seeing the sun rise and set in one day is such a dream for me
We're they taken out? I don't know. I think many were without the world knowing. That's sad.
It’s nice to have mementos of previous generations to pass on. Photos and items that have a story behind it. Not just money. Funny people love to go to thrift stores to recycle stuff rather than buying new, plastic cheap stuff
You took the wrong path, found another abandoned building, and didn't even take a look at it. I'm sad. But I understand, you probably didn't have the time, and this house was absolutely worth seeing.
It was also one of your most dangerous explores. Be careful and stay safe.
The big wooden screws are not supporting the beams, the screws are attached to the beams so those big wooden wheels (on the previous room) can roll horizontaly, (like music discs) against each other and squeeze the grapes to produce wine.
The other beautiful machine is to make flour to bake corn (or other cereal) bread.

I think this house is centuries old and they aren't even aware of it. Hand cut and hand dressed stone. Wouldn't we love to know the dates.
@@patstokes7040 I believe this house has at least 2 moments in time. The stone basement and the 1st floor are more ancient than the 2nd and attick. We can see it in the age, size a d cut of the wooden beams. Plus, the bricks and roof tiles are recent in Portugal like 60 70 years ago. The ancient portuguese tile has a single half 'tube" and it is hand made.
I would risk to say more than 150 years the down part of the house and 70 de upper levels, would you agree?
Wow! That is fascinating! If only they can be restored and demonstrated to our current generation.
That was definitely a toaster. My parents had one like that in their lake camp back in the 1960s. The problem was it only toasted one side of the bread at a time. You had to open it, flip the bread over, and toast the other side!
caseyflorida yes I remember my parents next door neighbors having one of them toasters lol in the 60s and it looked old then I was a child
My ow my, everytime I watch one of your episodes, For some reason,.. I picture myself living in each and every home and what it must've been like. Sometimes I can't help but cry. For the lives that have passed on. Who's stories, trials, sufferings, happiness, love and lives are nothing that will be remembered. It all boils down to the things we do that change whatever we can for the good of everyone, and making the world a better place for the ones that will inherit it after our time is up.
I have a longing to know the stories behind the walls that held so my secrets. Never to be told. I swear I am able to feel the longing of the walls for people to occupy the rooms and give life to it once again.
Thx u for documenting all the wonderful places you are. Every one offers something so different.
I am forever thankful you have given these walls a way to show the lives that once lived behind them. A timeless offering to days gone by although silent, says so much about the days it was cherished.

There’s not enough bedrooms for 10 people you say? ☺️ Not long ago, a family I know about, with 8 kids, lived in a 3 bedroom apartment. I remember a guy who was an only child, said to the family’s 16 year old son: «OMG, how can you live like that, you have no privacy!» (in a quite snarky tone). Then the 16 year old replied: «When I’m old enough to really need privacy, I’ll have my own place.». I remember we laughed so well, because the only child became all silent and his mouth was hanging open... ☺️ I think the cat got his tongue and he realized that the kid was sooo right. People can adjust and live according to their means and the standard so many expect today, where each child has their own bedroom (and preferably on suite bathroom), really isn’t *needed*. Kids do fine sharing a room and many kids actually love sharing a room and sleeping in bunk beds - actually there is a lot to be learned from sharing rooms! So many of us nowadays are way too spoiled, IMO (just to be clear, I am not saying you are, don’t think that at all). 😊
Took a moment from hyper kids, from the chaos of the world, and immersed myself here in the mountains of Portugal, in the Silva's house. It was beautiful and I didn't want to leave it.
I would love to come from USA and explore with you for a couple of months, oh to dream...lol love your videos
Same here Ronald, When I was young-er, My true Love and I would explore everything we could. We made so many great and exciting memories. Alis she has passed on now I feel like one of these grand old places, so many stories to tell but no ears to listen. I am very thankful for these young men and the wonderful productions. Peace.

I love seeing how people lived and the work they did to make a living. My great grandparents owned a vineyard in Hungary. Can’t even imagine the work necessary to make wine. Amazing video!!

What a lovely place.... the children must have wonderful memories growing up hopefully... but kids don’t always following in their parents job of making wine.... sad to see it go to waste... but that’s life, it will reclaim and breakdown what’s left .... Thankyou for sharing guys ... 💓

Gosh what a shame ,the house had to be beautiful at one time and all that land. The beautiful furnishings,I think it’s so sad that the children didn’t care enough about their history to keep some of their parents belongings,I k ow I really care about things like that but I can see that some people really don’t !Mh daughter is like that ,she’s very minimalist and doesn’t want much !

That was one of the most interesting places you've explored to date - absolutely fascinating. Must have been stunning way back when. The large wine bottle covered with raffia is a flagon. Hope you let the bat 🦇 out? Thanx for a super explore. Gill 🇬🇧
In the USA we use to have cobblestone roads. They were laid during the depression to help give men jobs. They last forever. But now everything is blacked topped. I call them pie crust roads. They fall apart and get full of potholes very quickly after they are done putting them blacktopping the road(s).
Hello Lesley and Danny! Amazing place. 😞Now it is bad conditions and the nature reclaimed the house. Sad the children's not sale the father's home. I am love the tablecloth in the kitchen and round tablecloth in the living room made in crochet for the wife of the owner. Hi both what a long walk to get to this house ,it’s amazing,so many untouched things on see .You always find sowing machines . They must of needed 3 fridges for all of them .I find it sad ,that the children haven’t done anything with it .The lounge is lovely,nice to see pictures,you get to sense who lived their ,loved the three chairs .thank you for taking us around with you much love Ann ukxx
There is currently a reality TV show about twin sisters, Darcy and Stacy Silva and their dad, Mike Silva on TLC 90 day fiancé in the US. Wonder if they are somehow related? For the price, no matter the chore of getting to and from the place it would have been fun to buy and renovate the home. It has so much potential. I too love the characteristic Portuguese bench’s seen in the halls of the old homes. They are each unique and pretty. Very typically Portuguese. If I see one in an antiques shop I will know of its origin. Thank you guys for taking us on wonderful trips around the world and for educating us!! God bless you and many safe travels!!! ❤️
I had to go and look that up... and it's true. I'm not watching an old vid from a few months ago. It's hot in Portugal right now, with 28* and 29* days forecast in the next week. Come do some exploring in Canada. It's nice and crisp here, with the leaves all turning beautiful fall colours :)

I always imagine these houses when they were first built I see the families in them going about their lives. What was especially cool to me is when you looked at the grandfather clock and it was eight o' clock

So small family business was closed. This farm is cool . wine or potatoes could be grown there. I love this setting.

This home was amazing! Such a shame it has gone to ruin...
The last building was an antique olive oil refinery. The olives go in the the big area at the top of the building, heavy wood slats are placed over the olives, the heavy timbers 'held up' by the screws are lowered onto the wood they placed on top of the olives by turning the screws, the heavy stone blocks on the bottom floor are hung from those timbers held up by the screws to add more weight to press the olive oil out of the olives. The olive oil then runs from the spout upstairs into the holding tank below, where it is graded and barreled. The glass casks you found in the house are for olive oil, not wine. He sold olive oil to support his family. That is a very large olive press, capable of pressing tons and tons of olives. I love your videos!!

Hey!! Guys!!! Bats are more afraid of you than you are of them. You woke them up. They sleep during the days. And they are adorable little mammals that are very necessary in nature.
I agree with you. I see many comments "did you let the bat out"? If the bat got in on it's own, it can get out on it's own. Just leave it be!
Side note they really should be wearing a mask, bat guano can be toxic when inhaled. Assuming the bats have been living there a while the guys could be at risk.
You are so respectful of the places you explore. It is so sad that all those beautiful pieces of furniture cannot be brought out to antiques dealers! I cannot fathom leaving my family home in such decay!

Loved this!!! Loved all of the wooden furniture & mirrors which I could rescue & restore! Sooo sad that it is going to be destroyed by nature 😔 Sooo loved all of the wine barrels, pottery & glass jugs in the basement! Very sad that some of the families haven’t come back for pictures or remembrances of the family 😔 Thank you for hiking sooo far, wading through the vegetation & walking on dangerous floorboards to bring us this awesome video! Aww the memories in that place..Not that I care to much for bats but I hope you opened that door back up to let that bat out unless there is another way it can get out..
Very interesting to see that place and get some information to the people who lived there. Also sad that somehow places like that are just left behind.
Most of the time I find these relaxing but today I was just on edge the whole time because it was way too unsafe.

Hi Lesley, how did you arrive at the date of when the man passed ?? I noticed by the sink at 12:30 a product called Cillit Bang which was first launched in Hungary then Europe in 2003. What a cool find, it looks like they lived simply but in a big house. I loved the little balcony and that kitchen was also really nice. Those old cars and that wine cellar were a good find, you never know what you will come across in places like this. Thank you for sharing, much love. xx💖

What an amazing house definitely in need of repairs,but love the antique left behind.The bath tub is common called clawfoot. The older pink could be a calligraphy pin( usually used with an ink well).The house itself is in need of major Repairs,but would be a good retirement home,despite the rough roads leading up to its location.

Those big round disk laying against the wall I believe are grinders. Possibly could go on the big screw things in the wine cellar to squeeze the grapes. I would think they would have been stained if they were used though...

I use to have a toaster like that, it was an antique given to me. Nice sewing machine. Silk flowers 💐 the guys sideburns were called chops.I remember those TV antennas. Wine glass jug bottle. In basement parts for wine making? Corn separator, grist mill? Nice explore.

Very beautiful! The wheels that you have found in the basement are grinding wheels (probably for grinding flour). There is a very important detail that is the toilet you found: before there was plumbing in the countryside, the "needs" were made in those toilets and the hole was directly to a deposit in the basement. There were also animals (cows and sheep) in the lowest part of the house (the basement). It kept the house warm.
