The first machine you called a washing machine, was in fact, a spin dryer, to get excess water out of clothes before hanging them to dry. The second machine was the washing machine, and not the dryer, you hooked the rubber hoses up to the taps to fill it. The centre paddle was called an agitator, and would rotate back and forth to move the clothes around.
Watching these is fascinating. But it always makes me think of my own mortality. I am reminded of my desire to make sure I can declutter my house as much as possible to not put the burden on my 4 kids when I go.

The music made me kinda sad.. I was thinking about my Grandma and her adorable house. She’s in heaven now and so is my Mother. Time goes too quickly! I’m sure this woman loved her home and made wonderful memories there. Thank you for this video, love seeing how people lived and the treasures they had.. 💜

This is my favorite type of exploration. Everything is left exactly as she left it. Things are not thrown around and/or broken. You are walking directly on the floor and not clothes and broken dishes.. There is no writings on the walls. A lovely exploration.
FYI: that thing hanging on the wall you thought it might be some kind of oil dispenser is actually a device to administer an enema, also known as clyster, which was used to stimulate stool evacuation. You would fill it with a liquid and then inject the liquid into the rectum in order to relieve severe constipation. The big clay container in the kitchen was not for wine, it was used to keep the water fresh and pure. I don't think this family was poor, they had pretty expensive stuff for their time. By the way, I love your videos. Keep up the good work.
Hi J Shadows, I am very sorry to hear, that you were sick. I hope you could recover and that you are feeling better again. God bless you and kindest regards.
Another wonderful video of a typical Portuguese family! Interesting to see that their culture is sooo very different than ours! They may have been poor, but they had gorgeous wooden furniture, that was sooo very unique & beautiful! Amazing how she was illiterate until age 63… wow… what incentive to go back to school after all of that time, to learn to read & write! Good for her! That took fortitude! I’m sooo very glad that you have Danny there with you to translate their customs & give interpretations of the lifestyle! He is sooo very valuable to have around! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with us! I loved it ❤️👍
Actually, 99% of what he says is made up shit. I wish they would include facts and not the nonsensical fairy telling. Bypassing beautiful architecture and artwork (not just oil paintings) but also carvings, statues, hand-made tiles, etc. to show us close ups of some awful ashtrays is beyond sad and such a waste because you know some knuckle-heads are going to go in and destroy what they can and spray paint everywhere else and it will all be lost. I think I will look into them again in a year and see if they have matured.
@@MrsNickysMom420 dont be mean, you have to remember these boys have to translate what they see from their own language into English,I think they do very well.

I loved the story and a look at this lady's home she was such a impressive woman to learn to read and write at 60 sum years old ......makes me happy and sad at the same time . This was a great video so many interesting things here to see and you documented it very well as always a true passion you have for this and a unique talent for explorations !! 👍👍
It's 2 o' clock in the morning here in Sri Lanka and I just finished watching. It's amazing!! I could feel the warmth of the place in every room you took us with you, and the smell of time as well. Lesly you are a wonderful, wonderful, wonderful host! Have no words to thank you for joining us in your amazing explorations! I feel love and kindness towards the whole mankind when I watch your videos. Take care and stay healthy! Love from Sri Lanka!
Thank you once more Lesley and Danny, for taking us into the life of someone that time seems to have forgotten! The machine that you thought was a dryer "the square one" is a washing machine and the round one was a spin dryer " this just spun out the water" then the clothes ready to hang up to dry! I used one in the early years of our marriage, in the early 70s! Then in 1974, out came the first Phillips automatic washing machine, that washed and spun off, just like todays do! I loved that machine & it lasted 13 years!
The Lady kept her cozy home neat.Even the poorest people can make a very pretty place to live by adding a pretty ruffle to a shelf or wash basin.I have never saw a shower like that one.Loved the bathroom tiles and.chandliers, and the wood ceilings.a wonderful find thank you so much Leslie,God Bless love from Oklahoma👍❤️😍🇺🇸
Thank you Lesley and Danny for taking us on this beautiful time- capsule journey. I love the way you handle everything with respect. I wish Danny would know a little more about his cultures. When you ask him something he always replies, I don't know. You always seem to know exactly what it is. Thank you for another great video
Thank you for sharing this beautiful and wonderful time capsule from back in the day I really appreciate and enjoy glimpses of the past into someone's life. Again thank you so much and God Bless You and Your Families 💞🙏❤️
This house reminds me a lot of my grandparents house with how the house is built, electric wires tacked along the wall, and the wardrobe.. thank you for making videos of these abandoned homes long forgotten.
Heyy there, my dear friend Lesley, Only a few moment until your lifestream starts. I am already very excited. The picture is very beautiful and so interesting, the way how it it is designed with the view of the room and the mother and her daughter on the right side of the picture. Stay safe, dear bro, peace and kindest regards from very rainy Switzerland.
I love how you narrate and explain in such loving detail of what you are displaying and respect you show for others property. Even if they are long gone; you and your brother still show deep respect. Also you have got a very calming sounding voice which is definitely a plus. I enjoy these very much. I also often get a laugh out of something that you don't know what it is, and I wish I could tell you through the screen of the phone that I watch this on. Much love 🤭
Hi Lesley, I absolutely love your videos. You guys always treat everything with so much respect. Awesome exploration as always!! Blessings, from a fellow explorer all the way from South Africa 🇿🇦
I love all your videos and the respect you show going into every ones house ; That wasn't a dryer that to was a washer the hoses inside were to attach to the washer and put inside the sink to drain the water when it was spinning the clothes out lol great video
At 32:00 this is a spin dryer. The clothes are dried by spinning at high speed and the water is expelled from the spout at the side.At 35:54 is the washing machine known as a "top loader". Great Videos! Keep them coming very interesting and yet sad as you often point out.
What an inspiring woman who lived there! It's fascinating that the Holy Water wasn't evaporated, some areas were without dust and those walnuts looked reasonably fresh, when other parts of the house absolutely have the dust, debris and cobwebs of 30 years. The way things age is wild. Thank you once again for taking us along on your adventure.
You speak so quietly as if someone is sleeping in the next room. I love learning about the history of the homes you explore. You are unique and you take your time as go through. That's why I enjoy watching.
The machine in the kitchen you called a washer is an extractor that takes water out of washed clothes before they are hung to dry and the machine you called a dryer is the washer with the clothes agitator in the middle.
Hi Lesley & Danny, love the wooden carved cabinets & chairs! Wow, never knew wood silverware before stainless steel ones!! I never seen a shower thing in bathroom before! I never seen a oil light above the bed & you explaining it what ball holds, most interesting!! Yes those cloth tissues you said are called Handkerchief`s. They had these in USA, up to the 1950`s. I have a few from my Mother. The cloth you picked up that was round & detailed to put under things is called Doily`s ! As for the carved chairs that are beautiful, if it has dust on them better to blow dirt off instead of wipe it. Love the chest or ( trunk as we call it here. ) Now for the new part of house...never saw that kind of washing machine or dryer. You should of shut kitchen window to preserve what is left in the kitchen. Wow, love the paper list to go to grocery store, but here we still write a grocery list on paper...no one uses their smartphones-2022. Ok, drawings that a child made was 1995 so longer staying than calendar 1992. The green glasses are worth money! Kids play cars are very expensive in USA. Ok the pencil pen you called it is actually was called Reed Pens, Quill Pens, Dip Pens, before ballpoint pens. Great Video!
The Diploma actually mentions that it is a qualification for a 'Sapataria' (shoe store) so I do not believe that Margarida was illiterate at all, but was being recognised here, for training she had completed for her job.
Hey Danny and Lesley, this house was so cool. I loved to see the shower and the cigarette dispenser, I have never something like that before. The Portuguese curtains are so cool! The old picture should be saved for history. Love your videos, stay safe and have fun exploring! xxoo
One of the best video I seen...top of the list it is...I loved it more than castles or rich people places...bcz we are middle class common people not so rich I can feel her living styled that time...so noble family... thanks Lasely for sharing this precious video... Really so amazing...❤️no age limit for education she taught us...brave lady...
Really sad the decay. Interesting to see how they lived. The bathrooms with the showers truly amazing. Today we call this type to bathroom The Wet Room. Love the way you go through the house however humble with the same respect for all. You surely have a good soul. 🌻
Love your documentaries! (Unfortunately I do not have any $ to give you!)! Good for this lady...going back to school so late in life! I love that! Such a sweet time capsule! Btw, unveil is pronounced like ale at the end like hill and dale! Drinking a glass of beer, or ale! (Unvale, if that makes sense?). Keep up the great work!!!
That machine is a washing machine not a dryer. Notice the hose going into it.Love how careful you are with the things you pick up and put back nicely as you say.Just love what you guys do to bring the family's storys to life.Keep bringing us new videos and as always we love you too guys.
You wonderful voice and music you choose for you videos makes your explorations of these amazing homes all the more special. From Florida with Love. Thanks guys for a job well done.
I'm Brazilian and I like it a lot when they visit these houses in Portugal, the products are brands known to us in Brazil and it's very funny that they read in Portuguese, but without knowing what kkkkkkkk means. Show.
I like the style of the vlog in great detail and the best part is that you show all the different things like jewelry, kitchen utensils and so on. WATCHING YOU FROM THE PHILIPPINES
Lesley, 32:00 is a spinner after you wash your articles you stick them in this and it spins the water out then you hang them up on a clothes line to dry. 35:52 is the washing machine
After long time I watched your video again.. And it felt great as always.. At the age of 63 she went to learn how to read and write, really that's incredible, she must have been strong minded woman with never give up attitude.. That's why I say these videos are somewhere life changing.. And it's always wise decision to watch your videos whenever I feel down and skeptical(of course about my abilities).. Those tunes throughout the video and especially your special narrations with such incredible tune, I feel these are music of my soul.. Makes me feel absolutely nostalgic.. Thanks a lot for another such mesmerising video.. Stay blessed, happy and healthy.. 🙏🙏👍👍😇😇
I believe the "Livro de Leitura" that you called a "storybook" [at 22:46] is actually a reading primer (literal translation: "reading book"), a book used in schools to teach READING. That was probably one of the books the lady had used when she learned how to read. 🙂
That white box in the kitchen is a washer. The other one is to spin out the water out of the clothes and then you would take them out to dry on the line. Those were very old school washing machines. Again one was for washing and one was for spinning out water.
Hello first china cabinet you opened up at the very beginning you opened up a little box herbs inside and then where it love your videos thank you for them and you have an awesome speaking voice God bless you young man and thank you so much
Paging all the leaders of all the countries to have concerns about the situations like this, please do something & donate all this wasted belongings instead of letting things go to waste, lets all heal the world , very poor people are scattered everywhere, so this can heal hunger worldwide, godbless us all!
The square machine is for the washing ... the smaller round Thomas machine is called an extractor ... it spins the water from the clothes before you hang them on the line
Washing machine and "spin "dryer to get out the excess water before you hung it, sort of replaced the old wringer washers. Some laundromats still have them in the states.
Also falls noch keiner das geschrieben hat: Das erste Gerät ist eine Schleuder für die Wäsche und das zweite Gerät ist die Waschmaschine. So in case no one has written this yet: The first device is a spin dryer for the laundry and the second device is the washing machine.

But also you seem to be very aware, connected to a deeper reality of life. More power to you . Andrea from Canada
The Kitchen brush looked like a "baking broom". Cooks would pull off a strand of straw off of the broom, in order to check to see if cakes and breads were done. They still make them in the states.

One of your best ones, only discovered it now! Houses of ordinary people are so interesting.
Margarita was born on my birthday! Different year, of course. How wonderful that she went to school in later life and learned to read and write! ❤️
Just watched this. We had showers like that in Texas, but we had to walk out to the backyard. You're amazing.
The pottery is beautiful 😍
Hola,Bros Of Decay... me encato el video. Muchos csriños... 😘😘😘😘💜💜
Oh no! That kind of bed I've seen that in my grandparents house
Wow...never have seen such a shower device. Thanks for showing!!
Loved it…. Great commentary…. Love your voice…
Time to relax matching your beautiful videos waiting for this gigantic snow storm hee in SE much Detroit mi raining now prayers for u and family🙏
I believe the "Livro de Leitura" that you called a "storybook" [at 22:46] is actually a reading primer (literal translation: "reading book"), a book used in schools to teach READING. That was probably one of the books the lady had used when she learned how to read. 🙂
as a FYI the green vase / pitcher thing @ 2:25 is Blue Mountain Pottery from Ontario Canada.
U are the most humble kind caring video maker of this work u do God bless u and your crew and families😇🙏
That white box in the kitchen is a washer. The other one is to spin out the water out of the clothes and then you would take them out to dry on the line. Those were very old school washing machines. Again one was for washing and one was for spinning out water.
This was a great place and great story about the lady. She must have been a very strong lady. To bad her house is going to decay. Love Leslie
Love from Scotland 🏴💚💚
I adore this little cottage. I would love to renovate it.
Hello first china cabinet you opened up at the very beginning you opened up a little box herbs inside and then where it love your videos thank you for them and you have an awesome speaking voice God bless you young man and thank you so much
Sun silk hairspray! My mum used that in the 60’s. I can still smell it!
Love to see this,
Paging all the leaders of all the countries to have concerns about the situations like this, please do something & donate all this wasted belongings instead of letting things go to waste, lets all heal the world , very poor people are scattered everywhere, so this can heal hunger worldwide, godbless us all!
The square machine is for the washing ... the smaller round Thomas machine is called an extractor ... it spins the water from the clothes before you hang them on the line
love it when Danny teaches Leslie Portuguese words! it's so cute! and he does have a very good pronunciation, which is very surprising...
Washing machine and "spin "dryer to get out the excess water before you hung it, sort of replaced the old wringer washers. Some laundromats still have them in the states.
WOW! WHAT A BEAUTIFUL PLACE. SO SAD TO SEE ALL THIS HISTORY AND FAMILY HEIRLOOMS GO BACK TO NATURE. STAY SAFE GUYS.❤❤
Also falls noch keiner das geschrieben hat: Das erste Gerät ist eine Schleuder für die Wäsche und das zweite Gerät ist die Waschmaschine. So in case no one has written this yet: The first device is a spin dryer for the laundry and the second device is the washing machine.
you are amazing. you have an amazing voice and you could easily be a model. You have amazing charisma. You have everything going for yourself. You will go very far in this life time Lesley. I have lived in the Netherlands for 3 years and also spent much time in Curacao. You are one of these gorgeous Dutch people we always see on the beach. But also you seem to be very aware, connected to a deeper reality of life. More power to you .
Andrea from Canada
beautiful find lot's of memories left behind

GOD BLESS THEM😥❤🌈🙏🏻
GOD BLESS HER😥🌈🙏🏻
I wish I had a son like you!, I’m hooked on your everything!!!
Was very quaint and has its own character. Great video!
The Kitchen brush looked like a "baking broom". Cooks would pull off a strand of straw off of the broom, in order to check to see if cakes and breads were done. They still make them in the states.
