This house is similar to the oldest houses here in Brazil. Also we are used to use this pineapple's bottle, I had laughed when I saw it kk. Those huge mud jars, they are clay filters and people say those filters turn water more nutritional, because of the mud properties or something like that.
Sorry for this poor english of mine 😁

Another wonderful video of a typical Portuguese family! Interesting to see that their culture is sooo very different than ours! They may have been poor, but they had gorgeous wooden furniture, that was sooo very unique & beautiful! Amazing how she was illiterate until age 63… wow… what incentive to go back to school after all of that time, to learn to read & write! Good for her! That took fortitude! I’m sooo very glad that you have Danny there with you to translate their customs & give interpretations of the lifestyle! He is sooo very valuable to have around! Thank you for sharing this wonderful adventure with us! I loved it ❤️👍

The Diploma actually mentions that it is a qualification for a 'Sapataria' (shoe store) so I do not believe that Margarida was illiterate at all, but was being recognised here, for training she had completed for her job.

What an inspiring woman who lived there! It's fascinating that the Holy Water wasn't evaporated, some areas were without dust and those walnuts looked reasonably fresh, when other parts of the house absolutely have the dust, debris and cobwebs of 30 years. The way things age is wild.

Hi Lesley & Danny, love the wooden carved cabinets & chairs! Wow, never knew wood silverware before stainless steel ones!! I never seen a shower thing in bathroom before! I never seen a oil light above the bed & you explaining it what ball holds, most interesting!! Yes those cloth tissues you said are called Handkerchief`s. They had these in USA, up to the 1950`s. I have a few from my Mother. The cloth you picked up that was round & detailed to put under things is called Doily`s ! As for the carved chairs that are beautiful, if it has dust on them better to blow dirt off instead of wipe it. Love the chest or ( trunk as we call it here. ) Now for the new part of house...never saw that kind of washing machine or dryer. You should of shut kitchen window to preserve what is left in the kitchen. Wow, love the paper list to go to grocery store, but here we still write a grocery list on paper...no one uses their smartphones-2022. Ok, drawings that a child made was 1995 so longer staying than calendar 1992. The green glasses are worth money! Kids play cars are very expensive in USA. Ok the pencil pen you called it is actually was called Reed Pens, Quill Pens, Dip Pens, before ballpoint pens. Great Video!

Aguarras is white spirit in english or terpentine (maybe turpentine) it was used in the past as bleach, is a very strong cleaner, mainly use for painting jobs or similar, i think now is not allowed in home used, and i think the wooden knife that you showed at the start of the video it was use for cheese and butter, my nana it had one of those, it was used for removed the cream of the top of the just milked milk from the cow, the shower was beautiful, should be in a museum. it did look to me not a poor household maybe modest but not poor, though

Tips in America is 10% more if you want to and your waitress or server was good, if the server is really bad leave nothing or a pocket of change...There is no rule saying you have to leave anything, but usually waitress or server is not making minimum wage they get less and live for the tips they get. Also in America be careful when exploring as you can be arrested for trespassing, it's jail time and a fine. Anything else I can help with please let me know, I love to research.

We say Shhandeleer for Chandelier. You always call brass and bronze things Copper ..copper is reddish metal..brass is gold toned made with copper. Those were red cherries not olives in the bottle. The flimsy bed s around were no doubt day beds for a quick nap. You call dolls puppets a lot. Puppets are put over the hand to make them talk. Not a doll.
I say the orange urn was to hold good drinking water and to keep it cooler ...too big for wine. The wine would spoil in such a large thing exposed to air. Why two kitchens? The larger square "dryer" has an impeller and a hose showing on side ..clearly a larger washing machine model like the other. What "old schools" made that beer. Where are all these old schools you speak of? Those were Mobil Oil logo gas station receipts not mobile phone related.
Oh in other videos when you see a half curved device with a knob on top and blotter paper attached...these are not for sealing letters etc..they are ink blotters to soak up excessive ink from a letter or signature from a fountain pen prior to ball points.

The first machine you called a washing machine, was in fact, a spin dryer, to get excess water out of clothes before hanging them to dry. The second machine was the washing machine, and not the dryer, you hooked the rubber hoses up to the taps to fill it. The centre paddle was called an agitator, and would rotate back and forth to move the clothes around.

Actually, 99% of what he says is made up shit. I wish they would include facts and not the nonsensical fairy telling. Bypassing beautiful architecture and artwork (not just oil paintings) but also carvings, statues, hand-made tiles, etc. to show us close ups of some awful ashtrays is beyond sad and such a waste because you know some knuckle-heads are going to go in and destroy what they can and spray paint everywhere else and it will all be lost. FYI: that thing hanging on the wall you thought it might be some kind of oil dispenser is actually a device to administer an enema, also known as clyster, which was used to stimulate stool evacuation. You would fill it with a liquid and then inject the liquid into the rectum in order to relieve severe constipation. The big clay container in the kitchen was not for wine, it was used to keep the water fresh and pure. I don't think this family was poor, they had pretty expensive stuff for their time. By the way, I love your videos. Keep up the good work.

He walks around in places with moldy clothes, spiderweb and rotten food but doesn't flinch. He picks up a 30 year old razor with some hair on it and is like, Ew! It is funny what disgusts some people.

Thank you Lesley and Danny for taking us on this beautiful time- capsule journey. I love the way you handle everything with respect. I wish Danny would know a little more about his cultures. When you ask him something he always replies, I don't know. You always seem to know exactly what it is. Thank you for another great video

Heyy there, my dear friend Lesley, Only a few moment until your lifestream starts. I am already very excited. The picture is very beautiful
and so interesting, the way how it it is designed with the view of the room and the mother and her daughter on the right side of the picture.
Stay safe, dear bro, peace and kindest regards from very rainy Switzerland.

Also falls noch keiner das geschrieben hat: Das erste Gerät ist eine Schleuder für die Wäsche und das zweite Gerät ist die Waschmaschine. So in case no one has written this yet: The first device is a spin dryer for the laundry and the second device is the washing machine.

Thank you once more Lesley and Danny, for taking us into the life of someone that time seems to have forgotten! The machine that you thought was a dryer "the square one" is a washing machine and the round one was a spin dryer " this just spun out the water" then the clothes ready to hang up to dry! I used one in the early years of our marriage, in the early 70s! Then in 1974, out came the first Phillips automatic washing machine, that washed and spun off, just like todays do! I loved that machine & it lasted 13 years!

Love your documentaries! (Unfortunately I do not have any $ to give you!)! Good for this lady...going back to school so late in life! I love that! Such a sweet time capsule!
Btw, unveil is pronounced like ale at the end like hill and dale! Drinking a glass of beer, or ale! (Unvale, if that makes sense?). Keep up the great work!!!

The square thing you called a dryer would be the washing machine and the thing you called a washer would have been a spin rince and dryer .
