Tony was and is my favorite guitar player still. Every time I spoke to him. I felt at home. He was such a gentlemen. And so poetic with his words and where he placed them. Just like the notes he played.
It's been what, two and a half years now, I guess. And I still can't quite wrap my head around the idea Tony Rice is gone. Technical skill at a level few have matched. And a gift for thinking about a piece of music in a way no one else had before, but which forever after becomes part of the conversation. As for Richard? Well, he's one of the things I miss most about no longer living in Santa Cruz county. Like Tony, a true visionary, a modest and humble artisan, and a man able to be in the middle of the pack among like minded folks.
Got to spend an afternoon with Richard Hoover about 6 years ago when I was in Santa Cruz. What an amazing man and so so friendly . My wife and I were the only two there that day and I learned more about guitar building in those few hours than had had known in my 66 + years at the time ! Someday Good LORD Willing I will have a custom one made !
Dang. I love Santa Cruz CA when i visited. I adore Tony....and would love a Santa Cruz some day. Gonna have to come from a Santa Claus tho. I miss Tony.

The Video that made me want a Cruz!. Thank you Richard & the team ❤.
I'm very fortunate that I own a Santa Cruz guitar. It's everything that's ever been said in praise about it.
