oh man, I know this is horror but the whole 'spiteful business owner keeps his estranged partner's name on the door to be petty' thing is hilarious.
its also interesting that he requested a brass container- brass experiences a process oligodynamic effect and sterilizes itself.
i would just like to point out the specific phrase "becoming just a home for those crawling, feasting things" because that's exactly what happened to Jane (first time listener so i don't really know what's happening here so far)

first time listener here as well. I think they all (Jared, Jane, etc.) had an encounter with death and some characters decided to 'live' on, like that soldier who played a game with it and cheated. some of them chose death, probably many of those who testified and died in unclear circumstances.

I'm also a first time listener (I'm so glad my boyfriend has a sense for my taste in horror because I'm loving every second of this series) and that's an interesting thing to point out. I don't think I noticed it but now that you mention it, it's definitely a running theme.
If I had to wager a guess, I would say that are more entities like the Hive out there and that they are at odds with one another. As was the case with Jane, it is possible that they influence people before they want to use them as a form of preparation
Breekon and Hope. When you need your deliveries made to impossible places, and with dramatic timing, we get it there. Breekon and Hope, so reliable, it's downright *spooky*.
This deserves so much more praise and recognition.

8 months past, i'm sure you're far enough to know you got it right with Trevor. And we got a statement from the girl in question, but really there isnt enough detail to figure out who it is.
if it was the close cropped girl, Sara, from the ghost hunting show, she'd also be the one who went missing in 2006(?) during the anglerfish episode (#1)!
No, it was explicitly mentioned that the sound tech (Sarah) was shorter than average- the girl here was 'tall and lean'

this episode fucks me up. not in a scared way but in a "horrifically sad" way. later information heavily implies that the corruption targets people who desire to be loved and here it is devastating a senior care center for people who had no money or family to care for them.

@@howeboutthis Its fine, someone was nice enough to inform me that its from the episode where the guy is sent cardboard boxes with body parts which he eventualy loses, the lighter is something he stole from the guy he killed earlier on in the story.

Oh wow. The same idea was used in Lord Dunsany's Gods of Pegana, spoken by the death god, I think. It was quoted somewhere and I was so fascinated I found the book free online to read it for that. Lord Dunsany was one of Lovecraft's inspirations. Fascinating to know the idea has an older history. :)

God, the descriptions for this statement were so disgustingly visceral. As soon as I heard the word "rot", I knew I had to save this one for when I wasn't eating, and I'm so glad I did.
I LOVE how well all the previous statements are all coming together to form one mysterious narrative. The writing for this podcast is wound really tight together, so much so that I feel like I have to revisit old statements just to see what previously mentioned names, locations, and archived objects pop up next.
This one is so sad. The people at the end of their lives who once had such a lively and fun community formed between them in the absence of any other supports in their life, and then it turns to a sick and festering place of silence.
There was a zippo lighter with an eye on it in ep12 (First Aid) and another one in ep14 (peicemeal) with a topless women on it. Now this one with a spider web. Hmmmm
There was another zippo lighter that trevor used to burn the vampires he killed in vampire killer, and trevor did get mentioned at the end of this ep before jon got interrupted

god the shift from wtnv to tma is wild. everything here is intertwined (like a web lol) and becomes relevant again later in the plot. im excited to see how the story continues

I really like how they involve so many moments where the statement-givers just get a haunting image burned into their mind, like e.g. here when Alenka tapped against the window rhythmically as if in a trance and, after everything has kind of sunken in for Nicole, she stared at Nicole as if still in that trance until a scream suddenly errupts from her mouth accompanied by a swarm of flies, almost overpowering her voice. I dunno, I just really like how those mind-etching scenes are always described

I currently work in a nursing home experiencing a horrible covid outbreak, and "we've taken ill. We've passed away," is exactly how it feels. Just recovered from my own case of it, which only got me because I had salmonella poisoning, and it took that moment to jump me

edit: our funeral home is right next to the house. we live right next to it, the only gap between the buildings being a gate to get into the garden.

How wonderful that I'm listening to this as we clean the week after my aunt died
ok there it is. this one got me. the thought of death and bodies is ok because we try to process them as fast as possible but finding an oozing tainted dead body with the heat and the flies and the smell is very UGH. I thought i was fine because The Man Upstairs was gross but the sheer amount of rotting meat and the creature made it campy . this one was on a different level for me. Hearing of such a lovely place go to hell like that combined with the creepy new director and the dead silence and smell and the FLIES. I've been dreaming about flies after binging this series for three days. People say if you havea fear, the magnus archives has an episode about it. For me its like "You dont know what you're afraid of? We'll find it" That whole time by face was just ina permanent open mouthed grimace.
THIS is one of the most awesome, chilling stories you have ever done! Forgive my saying so, but it seems to me that some of your older works are a bit better with the scare factor than many recent ones. That is not to be over critical, but you've set such a high bar that it is truly challenging to meet or exceed it.

Well, as you continue to listen to these sorts of stories, you kind of get used to them. I think they are about as good as they ever were.
I think that's for plot purposes. Like yeah, in the beginning they were setting up the plot too but then it focussed more on the fear factor. Then it slowly becomes more plot driven
I really don't know how to feel about the packages... The table is clearly no good although I'm not sure how dangerous it is when you don't look at it.
The lighter however... In that episode with the two burnt guys the open eye seemed to be protective. However, it was also on the lighter so???
Now we have a cobweb on it... This could be good because we know that you can burn the worms and my personal theory is that the spider entities are the natural enemies of the worms but I'm just not sure.
This , this is the one that gave me chills.
The ending where we found out what was delivered gets me so hype for the next episode XD
If I remeber correctly the spiders didn't get along with the worms, so I'm hoping this lighter will save my tired boy John. The table is obviously Grahams and the delivery was made by Beacon and Hope delivery. What is the meaning of this and it's consequences? I have no clue, but I'm here for the ride.
