Yeah the slave owners were protestants.. dont know why he was saying they were catholic irish.. a bit odd. Thete was irish catholic indentured servants and rebels sent as "slaves" there though.. there is as interview with some locals and they make it very clear their irish names came from those transported after cromwells wars.. which seems logical

Petrokemikal You are correct. We were not slave-driving anyone. However, when I researched this I found that when the Irish arrived on the island of Montserrat some of them turned rogue. This wasn't exclusive to the Irish it was also true of the Black African slaves. They also turned rogue and were rewarded for being the overseers for the landowners - traitors to their own people in other words. It was only a small amount from what I have read. Michal D Higgins doesn't make this clear and has us believing that the Irish were actually the slavemasters.
Well they were in Ireland for 800 years so you just call them anglo irish, bullshit and go way with you terminology, the black Irish in this Video were a mix of real Irish and African people, we don't have as much identity after 800 years of British terror but please don't insult us.

Facts were the absolute majority of Irish on Montserrat were poor Irish and were heavily discriminated against by the English and Anglo-Irish Plantation owners. Out of the 10s of 1000s of Irish transported by the English to the Caribbean - many are believed to have died due to the harsh conditions or were simply worked to death. This is from the history of Montserrat written by the pre-eminent Montserratian historian of African descent. Howard Fegus. "During the heyday of plantation life in Montserrat, most of the Irish were only a few removes from slavery. In addition to carving a livelihood from the arid slopes of St Patrick's and St George's, their lives were a constant struggle for a place in the sun. ...Discriminating laws were therefore enacted against them to prevent competition with the English and Irish Protestants for positions of authority in the society. Illiterate English were preferred in government administration to educated *Irish* Catholics"...

I am from the Cayman Islands and though it is in the Caribbean it is not close to Montserrat However one of the most prosperous families of African descent in the Cayman Islands are the Connollys which is an Irish surname I suspect that the progenitor of the Conolly /Connolly family In Cayman must been a slave/former slave to a eh
Also though Cayman never had any plantation slavery there were house and domestic slaves and one of the white families who were slave owners were Collins which If not an Irish surname seems to be well represented in Ireland

I got the dates mixed up with the abolition of slavery in Montserrat. That rebellion was in 1768, not 1868 .

There are about 40 families in St Kitts who are direct descendants of Irish slaves. There is a town named Irish town and they have a Convent school.
