Yes very good contract for ups it has it's. i worked for Fed ex and Emery world wide back when i was in college. One thing you have to remember is that no matter who you work for when you are paid by other then hourly than you fall under the minimum wage law. Also that why some trucking are based out of certain states because the have lower state minimum wage. Federal minimum wage is $7.25

I agree. I worked 9 years part time before getting a full time position. Even then I would show up for work and be told “ we cut routes today and don’t need you, call back tomorrow “ That’s a good thing though because it proves who’s in it for the long haul

You understand the contract is for 5 years, and will be more on the next contract. So, the $50 top, is only for 5 years. First though you have to be willing to prove that you are worth the money. CDL or not, it costs money to train you in how the company works. Coming out of a school, or coming on from the street with a CDL, mean something, but not enough to be an efficient employee. You have to earn your way up. IF you don't like that, then hit the pavement, and move your ass on down the line. Go somewhere else and make that kind of money driving. This is the real world. You don't have to like it, but you have to deal with it. So get on with dealing with it. Damn entitlemebt baby anyway.

yes for me. great contract much better than the last one. I was a seasonal for 2 years then hired in at 18.25 an hour and .36 cpm. I average 160000. per year now as a 9 year Sleeper driver. I was a street hire. these newer street hires most didnt have to work seasonal and came straight in. Wow
I worked for a ready mix company in Chicago. It was seniority based. Took you a solid 7-10 years to make 100k plus! Still is and will always be like that. You pay your dues or you find another job!
For the new drivers hired off the street with a CDL, and not satisfied with this contract. You do realized that you got to pretty much jump the line and starting off as a full time driver. That position typically would take 10+ years, depending on local job market, just for typical part time employees next progression in the company.
Yeah. I worked for YELLOW FREGHT, and there are 5 of us here that got hired on. The only reason they jump is bcuz we have years under our belt driving semi trucks. So why would ups want to put someone who is just learning to drive a semi on the streets. That’s a big time liability.. it’s more of a responsibility when driving a semi truck compared to driving a uhaul.. get the picture

There are a lot of trucking companies closing their doors for good. The big mega carriers are buying out companies in distress, which will make them bigger, but continue to under pay their drivers. The teamsters are the tide that lifts all boats, they are fighting the good fight that individual drivers can not accomplish on their own

After 30 years at the bakery and the teamsters managing our funds, in five years they've reduced our pension payouts by over HALF!! Each time claiming the fund would become insolvent if we did not accept the cuts. 3 freaking times mister! So pump and promote the thieves. They closed our bakery while investing in "Sick Worms IN Financial Treason". How Swift can you get?
Did this guy just use a company slogan as an analogy?? 🤮 Just because it's a great contract doesn't mean there isn't more on the table. A majority of new drivers are not off the street hires, they would be non-contractual hires. It's an 18% raise but over the last 5 years since 2018 inflation has totaled over 20%, so this contract doesn't keep up. I'm a 19 year Teamster at UPS and was a 9 year PTer, not by choice, it's not just the youngsters dissatisfied with this contract. The whole point of being unionized is to make it better for the generations coming up behind you!!! Our union has been at this for over 100 years, this contract didn't happen in a vaccum. I was never forced to work 6 days a week but young drivers have been doing that for 3 years straight. Workers gave their lives for a two day weekend. That didn't earn them their voice?? FOH! Wages are only a small percentage of operating costs, UPS is going to raise prices regardless. This is some corporate clown shit right here! Health and Welfare/Pension contribution increases will be cut in half out West if this contract is ratified! We've fought hard for decades for our pension to be where it is. HANDS OFF OUR PENSION!!! We don't compare our compensation to others in our industry, they compare theirs to ours! We are the standard for a reason. Our union has been fighting for a century for us to be where we are. Send them back to the table!
This driver is right on. First of all, there’s not many places you’ll work where you’ll hit top scale in 4 years. As a Driver, I have averaged 100k since I’ve started here in 2020. I will hit full scale in May. I am very happy with this new contract. I’m making more money than I ever have, and it’s wonderful to be able to have things I’ve never been able to afford. #UPSYES!! My brother in law lost two good paying trucking jobs back during the late 70's early 80's. The Union made more and more demands and the company said bye. They then reopened in less than a year under a new name and non union.
Unions don't put business out of work management does. Unions dontcrun day to day operations, they dont control the purse. Govt deregulation put alot of companies on shaky and unsustainable ground. You cant be like Yellow and price your service so barebone that any downturn in the market is trouble. UPS has had a union model for damn near 100 years and you dont see them having problems. The umion looks at books, and work conditions and formulates a package that is forward looking and fair.

It’s not just UPS it’s all over the industry all the new guys have that mentality that they can just come in and get it right away without putting any years into the pavement … and that’s also what’s wrong with the industry because the lack of discipline and patience makes these newer drivers go out there get trucks and try to be owners and screwing things up across the board

@@sneed915 ironically, I am not a union driver but a team driver for a run of the mill mega carrier. Both of us make over $100k and have not been lifelong drivers. Hard-working should pay. Longterm employment should count but which employer should not be the ONLY criteria.
I'm in a union I don't believe people should pay there dues that's old crabs in a barrel mentality. You should be paid on how hard you work and your experience that way every one has an opportunity to eat
When your in a trade union you go thru a 4 year apprenticeship program & when are finished with the apprenticeship program & you become a journeyman you make the same amount of money 💴 as a journeyman who’s been in that same trade for 25-30 years.That’s called an even PLAYING FIELD if not your membership will decline & your union will be Fu**ED…

I drive for Kroger/Ralph here in Southern California for 18 years it took me 6 years to make full time and struggle to pay bills when it was slow and part timers were only working 3 days minimum,back then we sacrificed,now 18 years in full time,my own assigned truck and #1 senior driver on my shift I basically get my same gravy run,we have hired 4 yellow drivers in the pass month with 20 25 years in the union and they already complaining about working nights,not able to drive the new truck and not getting the gravy runs WTF! I get they have more years than a lot of us but trying to push or brag about your union years doesn’t fly with guy’s who been in this company before them Iam already bumping heads,I would be grateful as fuck to be working again,
I think a lot big companies are the same these days, like what i worked before, Mclane. All of the old drivers are pretty happy with the company, the problem is how they treat the new drivers. When i started, they paid me very well, but it only lasted three months, after that, the pay dropped more than 50 percent cause they cut my hours.
Screw putting in time. Experienced drivers should be paid accordingly. I have a Teamster job. Started at $28 an hour. Went to full scale day 91 after clearing 90 day probation.
The new drivers, (Off the Street) don’t mind the progression., or putting the years. Its the low hourly pay we are getting pay per hour.. $23 p/h until the end of the second year then we get a dolllar raise that would put us on $24p/h. UPS hire off the street truck drivers cause their was not enough inside worker trying to get their commercial license and have that big responsibility that comes with it. When I say not enough means literally just a hand full of workers only. UPS needed hundred of truckers. They had the opportunity.
Ups hires within and should start hiring cdl holders who have experience out the the streets instead of the delivery drivers . If you want your cdl go get it ! Save up and don’t expect ups to do it for you. That’s how I did mine and you should the same ! Get your 1-2 otr experience and then come back for a better company! 😊
UPS drivers don't just drive. They load, unload, pick up, and deliver packages, navigate congested City traffic conditions ect. Additionally they promote from within. They're paid what they're worth. They are not overpaid.
9 year feeder driver here, I agree with him 100% however my local union is giving us the shaft somehow in Norcal they agreed to take a 50% cut to our benefits contribution from the previous $1.00 per hour by the company which is a massive concession and will likely lead to future insolvency of our pension
The problem is no one wants to wait 5 yrs to make money. I have bills just like you do, I need to make money now for example. Another problem is you have the 30 plus year man sitting on the pot and not shittin. Just holding on to seniority just because. If you haven't acquired all your toys etc in 30 yrs then you never gonna get it so retire. The top guys are suppose to retire so the new guys can help take care of them and the cycle repeats. I understand putting in your so called time at the job. I'm a teamster under the carhaul division and it's different than the freight side. We have that same problem but not everyone can haul cars so the senior guys typically be the ones still working. I get it!
If they don’t want to wait, then leave. Simple as that. I worked 9 years to get my shot so I know way too much about waiting and paying my dues. I think EVERYONE should have to work part time 5 years minimum! It will make them appreciate what they have much more.

Then there's the possibility of losing a good driver potentially as well to a non union company. I heard the problem with being part time and loading trucks is you only get 4 or less hours per day. You basically have to get another part time job and you have to do that for years. The guy here said he did that for 8 years which is crazy
I made 21 working for a small mom and pop shop, in Ohio. Class B that’s the easiest of the easy. I also watched Chrysler shut down a plant cause the workers wouldn’t take the deal. But if I worked at ups I would vote yes, cause I’m thinking the new generation just want to watch it burn
@@bobclark7211 Not the first time I have heard that. I left in 06 after 33 years off the street. It still urks me to see on UTUBE drivers pulling out stuff on a regular basis. Some of my few remaining contacts at our hub tell me the training has become so bad that drivers have accidents soon after being put on the road.🦇
What I want to make particularly clear in the end every driver is going to make the same drivers that have been there for 30 years drivers that have been there for 10 years and drivers have been there for four years When they reach their progression rate. everybody's pay rate is equal. I myself did 4 progression as a fulltime driver and I agree with should the progression pay % change yes it needs to reflect the current economic times.
I started with UPS last year as a seasonal driver driving to Brown trucks. Next week I'll be working in Pennsylvania driving a feeder truck. I've been in the industry for 30 years. If I make $23 an hour which that's what I be making I'm okay with that especially with the benefits.
Sounds like he is a mouth piece for the O’Brien Teamsters administration, since O’Brien is originally from Massachusetts. I don’t have anything against O’Brien, but it certainly looks like this is the situation in this case being that this driver is from Massachusetts. I don’t think this interview with this particular Teamster is a coincidence. I am not putting the blame on Alex but the Teamsters have clever tactics to get the word out. Teamsters leaders and business agents are no different than politicians. They always wants the recognition to advance themselves in their careers.
My thing with unionized workforce is that, every 5-6 yrs, their current wages are not enough and they need $6-8hr MORE TO SURVIVE! Disney workers here in FL did just that. In 2015-2016, $15 was the guaranteed wage they needed to survive, so they got it! Almost immediately, every landlord in town hiked rent by $300 (pre-covid, covid made it worse). Now, $20 is the bare minimum needed to survive and they got it. Like, when does it stop? Now there’s folks at Disney that make more than EMT’s or even teachers! This, on top of their decent health insurance and other benefits.

This mentality is a very old way of thinking, and your little raise still doesn't calculate with the current inflation rate or economic situation. It's easy to blame the new guys. Especially since companies target noobs to pay them less, so they can afford to pay more at 8 years. The money needs to be right for right now, not 20, or 30 years ago, but for now and 20 years from now when they go back to renegotiate...

I’m going to have to say this is a wait and see scenario. What would be way better is the government to place in tax cuts for everyone. Company’s, individuals across the board. This could create an increase in shipping and could price out grandma for when she wants to send packages to the grandkids during Christmas. Let’s look out for grandma first.
25 year upser, and I agree. This is a good contract, the best I’ve ever seen. We have great pay, job security through the union, great benefits. I was in package car for 12 years and 3 years in feeders. My transition to feeders is how I found this channel. I have I great deal of respect for truckers. I also recommended trucking to others, and now they are in trucking and successful. The naysayers need to “get the big picture “ we are blessed to work for ups!

Think about this as being a trucker and delivering people's goods. This is only the two I will talk about. I ordered a water tank. Stolen in delivery. I will never get my money back. I ordered a pacific type of bush. Stolen in delivery. I will never get my money back. I get people need a higher pay. We all do. What about doing the job. Take UPS, FedEx, and the post office. If say. The public had enough of not getting what the paid for to be shipped to them. A higher pay is the least of the problems for these people at these jobs. People will just stop ordering anything online. Here is the saddest part to this. At one time in our history. There was a thing called stores. Where you could drive to them and get what you needed. Now. You have to order such things online or do without. Take a hard look at Amazon products. Most of those products used to be in local stores. They demand us to go solar for an example. Can you personally drive to a local store and buy anything solar? How about water tanks? How about different plants and trees not carried as a normal? How about the good cleaning supplies for the inside of your vehicle? Food you can eat? Medical supplies for a bug out bag? Parts for anything you own? Tools? Clothes? You don't buy a TV at Walmart. Where can you buy one? What stores are here. Only sale a brand. What if I want a different brand. That means I have to order it. That means a driver has to bring it to me. Yet. If it is stolen more then I get them. Then what's the point. I look at deliveries now as. Not when they will arrive, but if I get what I paid for. If I get it. Can I get it. What are my odds it will get into my hands and not someone else. One plus side I do have. I live in Kimball Nebraska. That means if I need it bad enough and want to spend money myself on really high gas prices. I have the whole Denver area to find what I need and be my own truck driver. That I am well trained in. That's how I became a very good driver. The training of staying away from accidents of all the bad drivers. Like this town. A nightmare to drive in. Try to ride a motorcycle in it. From the truckers down to a cat crossing the road. Takes hours now to do every day normal things. Why I stay home. Why I order. Why I use the trucking industry a lot. Yet. If I have to do it myself. That's not the first time. Doing someone else's job. I qm just sharing.
No trucking company in my area is paying as low as UPS does to feeder drivers before top progression and without the MRA. Why are people complaining about people getting payed a fair wage in this awful economy? Times have changed, especially since the pandemic. You need an average median income of $110k nowadays to afford a home. So stop hating on fellow drivers trying to make a living and direct that towards corporations making billions in profits and giving tens of millions in bonuses out to their CEOs.
Might have been ok during his time. He was able to make ends. These days someone starting out, looking to buy a house etc. the money is not enough. All drivers should be pushing for better pay regardless of what they had to do. That’s a selfish petty mindset.
Life is about taking time and setting goals. You might have to rent for a year or two until you get money saved up. A lot of companies look at the work and if it has changed much in the grand scheme of things, they won't want to pay more. Honestly the market is getting screwed from the government, and companies can't keep up with all the worldly expenses. Fuel is a cost EVERYONE has to endure. If the fuel dropped to 2$ a gallon like it was in 2020 with PRESIDENT TRUMP, all these companies could pay more. FUEL FUEL FUEL.
What's selfish is thinking a job is going to pay you enough to buy a house right out the gate with no college degree. Go get an efficiency and stop being ungrateful and entitled. I never complained about my wages because I knew how to live within my means. I've been with the company for 35 years and remember the time when we were offered a 10 cent raise.

Unfortunately that’s the mind set of older drivers . If i had to do it you should have to also , I understand both sides of the coin . I would be pissed if i had to wait 5 years for top pay then they changed it where all new guys get top pay from the get go . At the same time you shouldn’t have to slave away for 5 years especially when like here in Canada ups starts feeders off at only $ 19 a hr

No one get everything they wants in any contract. It give and take and you get the best you can. Not everyone will be pleased, but that’s what negotiating is all about. I don’t believe there is any trucking Co. Out the That doesn’t have a tear pay plan. No one anywhere in the trucking industry that pays a new employee top pay day one.
I do not agree with pay your dues. Jobs need to be based on talent. What an employee brings to the table, not just being at a particular company for a long time. It is easy for seniority employees to want seniority to be valuable but how about thier true worth?
It’s not. It shouldn’t take a person 10 yrs to reach top pay, even though the progression rate is 4yrs. If these companies are making record profits, why is it a problem for them to take the progression rate down. UPS have workers with CDLs waiting to drive for years at times. Also those workers who are working in the warehouse loading and unloading are not being paid fairly. You have many other jobs like QuickTrip part time clerks making more than the warehouse workers at UPS…… UPS has been allowed to create the narrative that you have to put time in. Which is a way to manipulate workers into a certain mindset. It’s a bunch of bull…. Why are all other Union jobs are looking to strike also, bcuz they want to under pay workers who are highly qualified and people are tired of it. Yellow fright, Movie industry, Rail workers, etc
When you come to UPS off the street and have years of experience and over the age of 40, aint nobody got time to work part time on call for years before you become full time in the Chicagoland area. Most people of age have a lot of responsibility and can't work and be open to this on call/part time schedule. UPS and the way they do things are full of shit!
It depends on the local job market and the hub you are working. At my hub in ONT, it took me 10 years. I started in 2006. I know of new drivers that it only took them only 2 or 3 years. That's somethings that if you told me before, I would just dismissed you and tell you to wake up and stop dreaming

I’ve been with UPS now for 1 year. I’m very happy to be hear first and foremost! Before I started working with UPS I have held my CDL for roughly 20 years now. I was hired to be a team driver and I came from FedEx Ground which was also a team driving position which I worked at for 9+ years. My only issue is that I feel there should be a different progression for someone who has the experience coming here. I get waiting 4 years but for someone who has 9+ years experience for the job they were hired for the progression should be different for having experience. I just have an issue with my experience not meaning anything! I took a huge pay cut to come here. Waiting 4 years to get back to that pay doesn’t seem right?!?!
What makes you guys feel as though you should be able to leapfrog guys that put in their sweat and time at UPS? You could have stayed where you were. You knew the terms when you signed up. You could have chose UPS initially but YOU chose to apply at another company. I've been at UPS since the 80's and it kills me that guys who didn't start here comes in feeling entitled.
lol it don't matter how many years you have. the reason is because we're about safety we pretrip every day and watch how we drive. seen hot heads come off the streets thinking their the best thing since sliced bread because they have 2 to over 10 years experience and their usually gone from a few months to a year. they don't like rules and uniforms. stop complaining and just do your job and stop being so greedy . the money will come

UPS makes Millions to Billions off your Blood Sweat And Tears nothing isn’t wrong with changing your price and how you value yourself as human beings just like other companies changes their prices remember its business and you and name your price. My price will not always be the same as the next guy in this will depend on the level of comfortability and age and the complacency of that specific person. But don’t tell me that I should not negotiate a price that better suits me of taking care of my family you will be crossing the line.. A complacency state of mind is dangerous and damaging to those who listen and repeat.
This guy isnt feeders. Hes not a truck driver. He delivers packages. He just drives the package cars. Feeders is the reason why the Union is strong because its hard to replace a skill position. If everyone went on strike but the feeders. They all would be replaced in two weeks. You can't do that for truck drivers because of the training....We did good on this contract but could have gotten WAY MORE. People don't realize how much money UPS has and has been making. That's the real reason why people are voting no and also the benefits cut is a huge deal. He forgets how progression use to be 6 months, 1 year, 2 years then it went to 4. This guy is talking a big game about this contract but misses the history and hidden language in the contract. Im not even Gen Z but this is the guys lame excuse. Talk about someone who doesn't understand the contract
As a current UPS driver in my 1st year, the contract is somewhat pretty solid! The issue alot of us new drivers are having is not that we want it and we want it now, but it's the way the progression is set up, especially how the incremental raises are set, they need to be more balanced raises. I, myself was hoping for a two year progression, because I understand that we do have to pay our dues, but the cost of living and everything else isn't going down.....Just my opinion!

Yes very good contract for ups it has it's. i worked for Fed ex and Emery world wide back when i was in college. One thing you have to remember is that no matter who you work for when you are paid by other then hourly than you fall under the minimum wage law. Also that why some trucking are based out of certain states because the have lower state minimum wage. Federal minimum wage is $7.25

You understand the contract is for 5 years, and will be more on the next contract. So, the $50 top, is only for 5 years. First though you have to be willing to prove that you are worth the money. CDL or not, it costs money to train you in how the company works. Coming out of a school, or coming on from the street with a CDL, mean something, but not enough to be an efficient employee. You have to earn your way up. IF you don't like that, then hit the pavement, and move your ass on down the line. Go somewhere else and make that kind of money driving. This is the real world. You don't have to like it, but you have to deal with it. So get on with dealing with it. Damn entitlemebt baby anyway.

great contract much better than the last one. I was a seasonal for 2 years then hired in at 18.25 an hour and .36 cpm. I average 160000. per year now as a 9 year Sleeper driver. I was a street hire. these newer street hires most didnt have to work seasonal and came straight in. Wow
I worked for a ready mix company in Chicago. It was seniority based. Took you a solid 7-10 years to make 100k plus! Still is and will always be like that. You pay your dues or you find another job!
For the new drivers hired off the street with a CDL, and not satisfied with this contract. You do realized that you got to pretty much jump the line and starting off as a full time driver. That position typically would take 10+ years, depending on local job market, just for typical part time employees next progression in the company.
It isn't just new CDL drivers. A 25 year Yellow driver coming to UPS should be able to jump over a 5 year UPS driver.
Yeah. I worked for YELLOW FREGHT, and there are 5 of us here that got hired on. The only reason they jump is bcuz we have years under our belt driving semi trucks. So why would ups want to put someone who is just learning to drive a semi on the streets. That’s a big time liability.. it’s more of a responsibility when driving a semi truck compared to driving a uhaul.. get the picture

There are a lot of trucking companies closing their doors for good. The big mega carriers are buying out companies in distress, which will make them bigger, but continue to under pay their drivers. The teamsters are the tide that lifts all boats, they are fighting the good fight that individual drivers can not accomplish on their own

A majority of new drivers are not off the street hires, they would be non-contractual hires. It's an 18% raise but over the last 5 years since 2018 inflation has totaled over 20%, so this contract doesn't keep up. I'm a 19 year Teamster at UPS and was a 9 year PTer, not by choice, it's not just the youngsters dissatisfied with this contract. The whole point of being unionized is to make it better for the generations coming up behind you!!! Our union has been at this for over 100 years, this contract didn't happen in a vaccum. I was never forced to work 6 days a week but young drivers have been doing that for 3 years straight. Workers gave their lives for a two day weekend. That didn't earn them their voice?? FOH! Wages are only a small percentage of operating costs, UPS is going to raise prices regardless. This is some corporate clown shit right here! Health and Welfare/Pension contribution increases will be cut in half out West if this contract is ratified! We've fought hard for decades for our pension to be where it is. HANDS OFF OUR PENSION!!! We don't compare our compensation to others in our industry, they compare theirs to ours! We are the standard for a reason. Our union has been fighting for a century for us to be where we are. Send them back to the table!
This driver is right on. First of all, there’s not many places you’ll work where you’ll hit top scale in 4 years. As a Driver, I have averaged 100k since I’ve started here in 2020. I will hit full scale in May. I am very happy with this new contract. I’m making more money than I ever have, and it’s wonderful to be able to have things I’ve never been able to afford. #UPSYES!! For me

My brother in law lost two good paying trucking jobs back during the late 70's early 80's. The Union made more and more demands and the company said bye. They then reopened in less than a year under a new name and non union.

Unions don't put business out of work management does. Unions dontcrun day to day operations, they dont control the purse. Govt deregulation put alot of companies on shaky and unsustainable ground. You cant be like Yellow and price your service so barebone that any downturn in the market is trouble. UPS has had a union model for damn near 100 years and you dont see them having problems. The umion looks at books, and work conditions and formulates a package that is forward looking and fair.

who fed ex or OD? they have unions like ups. Most good companies here in Atlanta start out at 25.00 or 27.50h for local home every night. however that union keeps your job safe.

I drive for Kroger/Ralph here in Southern California for 18 years it took me 6 years to make full time and struggle to pay bills when it was slow and part timers were only working 3 days minimum,back then we sacrificed,now 18 years in full time,my own assigned truck and #1 senior driver on my shift I basically get my same gravy run,we have hired 4 yellow drivers in the pass month with 20 25 years in the union and they already complaining about working nights,not able to drive the new truck and not getting the gravy runs WTF! I get they have more years than a lot of us but trying to push or brag about your union years doesn’t fly with guy’s who been in this company before them Iam already bumping heads,I would be grateful as fuck to be working again,

I think a lot big companies are the same these days, like what i worked before, Mclane. All of the old drivers are pretty happy with the company, the problem is how they treat the new drivers. When i started, they paid me very well, but it only lasted three months, after that, the pay dropped more than 50 percent cause they cut my hours.

The new drivers, (Off the Street) don’t mind the progression., or putting the years. Its the low hourly pay we are getting pay per hour.. $23 p/h until the end of the second year then we get a dolllar raise that would put us on $24p/h. UPS hire off the street truck drivers cause their was not enough inside worker trying to get their commercial license and have that big responsibility that comes with it. When I say not enough means literally just a hand full of workers only. UPS needed hundred of truckers. They had the opportunity.
Ups hires within and should start hiring cdl holders who have experience out the the streets instead of the delivery drivers . If you want your cdl go get it ! Save up and don’t expect ups to do it for you. That’s how I did mine and you should the same ! Get your 1-2 otr experience and then come back for a better company! 😊
UPS drivers don't just drive. They load, unload, pick up, and deliver packages, navigate congested City
traffic conditions ect. Additionally they promote from within. They're paid what they're worth. They are not overpaid.

9 year feeder driver here, I agree with him 100% however my local union is giving us the shaft somehow in Norcal they agreed to take a 50% cut to our benefits contribution from the previous $1.00 per hour by the company which is a massive concession and will likely lead to future insolvency of our pension

The problem is no one wants to wait 5 yrs to make money. I have bills just like you do, I need to make money now for example. Another problem is you have the 30 plus year man sitting on the pot and not shittin. Just holding on to seniority just because. If you haven't acquired all your toys etc in 30 yrs then you never gonna get it so retire. The top guys are suppose to retire so the new guys can help take care of them and the cycle repeats. I understand putting in your so called time at the job. I'm a teamster under the carhaul division and it's different than the freight side. We have that same problem but not everyone can haul cars so the senior guys typically be the ones still working. I get it!

I heard the problem with being part time and loading trucks is you only get 4 or less hours per day. You basically have to get another part time job and you have to do that for years. The guy here said he did that for 8 years which is crazy

I made 21 working for a small mom and pop shop, in Ohio. Class B that’s the easiest of the easy. I also watched Chrysler shut down a plant cause the workers wouldn’t take the deal. But if I worked at ups I would vote yes, cause I’m thinking the new generation just want to watch it burn

Some of my few remaining contacts at our hub tell me the training has become so bad that drivers have accidents soon after being put on the road.🦇

What I want to make particularly clear in the end every driver is going to make the same drivers that have been there for 30 years drivers that have been there for 10 years and drivers have been there for four years When they reach their progression rate. everybody's pay rate is equal. I myself did 4 progression as a fulltime driver and I agree with should the progression pay % change yes it needs to reflect the current economic times.

I started with UPS last year as a seasonal driver driving to Brown trucks. Next week I'll be working in Pennsylvania driving a feeder truck. I've been in the industry for 30 years. If I make $23 an hour which that's what I be making I'm okay with that especially with the benefits.
Sounds like he is a mouth piece for the O’Brien Teamsters administration, since O’Brien is originally from Massachusetts. I don’t have anything against O’Brien, but it certainly looks like this is the situation in this case being that this driver is from Massachusetts. I don’t think this interview with this particular Teamster is a coincidence. I am not putting the blame on Alex but the Teamsters have clever tactics to get the word out. Teamsters leaders and business agents are no different than politicians. They always wants the recognition to advance themselves in their careers.
My thing with unionized workforce is that, every 5-6 yrs, their current wages are not enough and they need $6-8hr MORE TO SURVIVE! Disney workers here in FL did just that. In 2015-2016, $15 was the guaranteed wage they needed to survive, so they got it! Almost immediately, every landlord in town hiked rent by $300 (pre-covid, covid made it worse). Now, $20 is the bare minimum needed to survive and they got it. Like, when does it stop? Now there’s folks at Disney that make more than EMT’s or even teachers! This, on top of their decent health insurance and other benefits.
If they don't strike they will create a even bigger problem for them selves.

This mentality is a very old way of thinking, and your little raise still doesn't calculate with the current inflation rate or economic situation. It's easy to blame the new guys. Especially since companies target noobs to pay them less, so they can afford to pay more at 8 years. The money needs to be right for right now, not 20, or 30 years ago, but for now and 20 years from now when they go back to renegotiate...

25 year upser, and I agree. This is a good contract, the best I’ve ever seen. We have great pay, job security through the union, great benefits. I was in package car for 12 years and 3 years in feeders. My transition to feeders is how I found this channel. I have I great deal of respect for truckers. I also recommended trucking to others, and now they are in trucking and successful. The naysayers need to “get the big picture “ we are blessed to work for ups!

I been here in feeder 10 years and the first 3 years ruined my life... being on call working once a week... the hell with paying dues... you should be able to get hired and work...I don't wish that for nobody. Think about this as being a trucker and delivering people's goods. This is only the two I will talk about. I ordered a water tank. Stolen in delivery. I will never get my money back. I ordered a pacific type of bush. Stolen in delivery. I will never get my money back. I get people need a higher pay. We all do. What about doing the job. Take UPS, FedEx, and the post office. If say. The public had enough of not getting what the paid for to be shipped to them. A higher pay is the least of the problems for these people at these jobs. People will just stop ordering anything online. Here is the saddest part to this. At one time in our history. There was a thing called stores. Where you could drive to them and get what you needed. Now. You have to order such things online or do without. Take a hard look at Amazon products. Most of those products used to be in local stores. They demand us to go solar for an example. Can you personally drive to a local store and buy anything solar? How about water tanks? How about different plants and trees not carried as a normal? How about the good cleaning supplies for the inside of your vehicle? Food you can eat? Medical supplies for a bug out bag? Parts for anything you own? Tools? Clothes? You don't buy a TV at Walmart. Where can you buy one? What stores are here. Only sale a brand. What if I want a different brand. That means I have to order it. That means a driver has to bring it to me. Yet. If it is stolen more then I get them. Then what's the point. I look at deliveries now as. Not when they will arrive, but if I get what I paid for. If I get it. Can I get it. What are my odds it will get into my hands and not someone else. One plus side I do have. I live in Kimball Nebraska. That means if I need it bad enough and want to spend money myself on really high gas prices. I have the whole Denver area to find what I need and be my own truck driver. That I am well trained in. That's how I became a very good driver. The training of staying away from accidents of all the bad drivers. Like this town. A nightmare to drive in. Try to ride a motorcycle in it. From the truckers down to a cat crossing the road. Takes hours now to do every day normal things. Why I stay home. Why I order. Why I use the trucking industry a lot. Yet. If I have to do it myself. That's not the first time. Doing someone else's job. I qm just sharing.

Why are people complaining about people getting payed a fair wage in this awful economy? Times have changed, especially since the pandemic. You need an average median income of $110k nowadays to afford a home. So stop hating on fellow drivers trying to make a living and direct that towards corporations making billions in profits and giving tens of millions in bonuses out to their CEOs.

Might have been ok during his time. He was able to make ends. These days someone starting out, looking to buy a house etc. the money is not enough. All drivers should be pushing for better pay regardless of what they had to do. That’s a selfish petty mindset.

Life is about taking time and setting goals. You might have to rent for a year or two until you get money saved up. A lot of companies look at the work and if it has changed much in the grand scheme of things, they won't want to pay more. Honestly the market is getting screwed from the government, and companies can't keep up with all the worldly expenses. Fuel is a cost EVERYONE has to endure. If the fuel dropped to 2$ a gallon like it was in 2020 with PRESIDENT TRUMP, all these companies could pay more. FUEL FUEL FUEL.
What's selfish is thinking a job is going to pay you enough to buy a house right out the gate with no college degree. Go get an efficiency and stop being ungrateful and entitled. I never complained about my wages because I knew how to live within my means. I've been with the company for 35 years and remember the time when we were offered a 10 cent raise.
Ups is not responsible for how you spend your money. Live within your means. Save your money. Ask your other half to get a job. You'll get your house in no time. Humble pie is dry going down the throat sometimes.

Unfortunately that’s the mind set of older drivers . If i had to do it you should have to also , I understand both sides of the coin . I would be pissed if i had to wait 5 years for top pay then they changed it where all new guys get top pay from the get go . At the same time you shouldn’t have to slave away for 5 years especially when like here in Canada ups starts feeders off at only $ 19 a hr

What is ignorant is thinking as a new Comer you are entitled to more. Yet you have put in no real work its called seniority. You don't deserve high pay just because you work there. Do your time put in the miles show your worth before you feel entitled to anything that's how the work force works.

If you are not happy, go get a better job. 30 years ago, things were different. Count your blessings. Believe me. Started with no power steering, no AC, spring ride , real tarps, and up to 120 hr a week ( local, home every day). I forgot all straight time pay.

No one get everything they wants in any contract. It give and take and you get the best you can. Not everyone will be pleased, but that’s what negotiating is all about. I don’t believe there is any trucking Co. Out the That doesn’t have a tear pay plan. No one anywhere in the trucking industry that pays a new employee top pay day one.

I do not agree with pay your dues. Jobs need to be based on talent. What an employee brings to the table, not just being at a particular company for a long time.
It is easy for seniority employees to want seniority to be valuable but how about thier true worth?
As the employer ages, they no longer hold their value. Employers are hiring new younger talent to replace them. Trucking shouldn’t be any different.

It’s not. It shouldn’t take a person 10 yrs to reach top pay, even though the progression rate is 4yrs. If these companies are making record profits, why is it a problem for them to take the progression rate down. UPS have workers with CDLs waiting to drive for years at times. Also those workers who are working in the warehouse loading and unloading are not being paid fairly. You have many other jobs like QuickTrip part time clerks making more than the warehouse workers at UPS…… UPS has been allowed to create the narrative that you have to put time in. Which is a way to manipulate workers into a certain mindset. It’s a bunch of bull…. Why are all other Union jobs are looking to strike also, bcuz they want to under pay workers who are highly qualified and people are tired of it. Yellow fright, Movie industry, Rail workers, etc

When you come to UPS off the street and have years of experience and over the age of 40, aint nobody got time to work part time on call for years before you become full time in the Chicagoland area. Most people of age have a lot of responsibility and can't work and be open to this on call/part time schedule. UPS and the way they do things are full of shit!

It depends on the local job market and the hub you are working. At my hub in ONT, it took me 10 years. I started in 2006. I know of new drivers that it only took them only 2 or 3 years. That's somethings that if you told me before, I would just dismissed you and tell you to wake up and stop dreaming
What this driver did back then is on him 100%.So don’t sit there & bump your gums on the new drivers coming in & wanting to make full scale so they can support their families & have a life to.

I’ve been with UPS now for 1 year. I’m very happy to be hear first and foremost! Before I started working with UPS I have held my CDL for roughly 20 years now. I was hired to be a team driver and I came from FedEx Ground which was also a team driving position which I worked at for 9+ years. My only issue is that I feel there should be a different progression for someone who has the experience coming here. I get waiting 4 years but for someone who has 9+ years experience for the job they were hired for the progression should be different for having experience. I just have an issue with my experience not meaning anything! I took a huge pay cut to come here. Waiting 4 years to get back to that pay doesn’t seem right?!?!

What makes you guys feel as though you should be able to leapfrog guys that put in their sweat and time at UPS? You could have stayed where you were. You knew the terms when you signed up. You could have chose UPS initially but YOU chose to apply at another company. I've been at UPS since the 80's and it kills me that guys who didn't start here comes in feeling entitled.
lol it don't matter how many years you have. the reason is because we're about safety we pretrip every day and watch how we drive. seen hot heads come off the streets thinking their the best thing since sliced bread because they have 2 to over 10 years experience and their usually gone from a few months to a year. they don't like rules and uniforms. stop complaining and just do your job and stop being so greedy . the money will come

Im just going to say this. UPS makes Millions to Billions off your Blood Sweat And Tears nothing isn’t wrong with changing your price and how you value yourself as human beings just like other companies changes their prices remember its business and you and name your price. My price will not always be the same as the next guy in this will depend on the level of comfortability and age and the complacency of that specific person.
But don’t tell me that I should not negotiate a price that better suits me of taking care of my family you will be crossing the line.. A complacency state of mind is dangerous and damaging to those who listen and repeat.

This guy isnt feeders. Hes not a truck driver. He delivers packages. He just drives the package cars. Feeders is the reason why the Union is strong because its hard to replace a skill position. If everyone went on strike but the feeders. They all would be replaced in two weeks. You can't do that for truck drivers because of the training....We did good on this contract but could have gotten WAY MORE. People don't realize how much money UPS has and has been making. That's the real reason why people are voting no and also the benefits cut is a huge deal. He forgets how progression use to be 6 months, 1 year, 2 years then it went to 4. This guy is talking a big game about this contract but misses the history and hidden language in the contract. Im not even Gen Z but this is the guys lame excuse. Talk about someone who doesn't understand the contract

As a current UPS driver in my 1st year, the contract is somewhat pretty solid! The issue alot of us new drivers are having is not that we want it and we want it now, but it's the way the progression is set up, especially how the incremental raises are set, they need to be more balanced raises. I, myself was hoping for a two year progression, because I understand that we do have to pay our dues, but the cost of living and everything else isn't going down.....Just my opinion!

@@HC_8I agree. I just hit scale this past Saturday 8/12. The time does go. I can’t believe I’m at top scale. It hasn’t hit me yet. The big picture is what I focused on rather than the now.
