Thank you! I found this method of grafting to be the easiest and I get the most success from this way. Easier to handle and anyone can do it! Thanks for watching and supporting!
@@GraftingDragonFruit Thanks, have you graft cutting on the mature DF plant? Any differences in growth rate comparing on rooted cutting or mature DF plant?
aloha DL Yes, I Graft most of my grafts on mature rootstock. I use rooted cuttings when they are about 6-8 months old to mature. I notice certain varieties like Vietnam white, their rootstocks are super strong when grafted together.
I’ve notice growth rate is a bit slower to show new growth when on a non mature rootstock like a cutting that’s just rooted. But give it 6 months and the roots will form and growth will be in abundance. In the beginning it’s a bit slow but they eventually catch up.
Of all the graft types I've seen, I wonder if there is a "preferred" grafting method that provides the best success and the best graft site strength? Thoughts?
I have been watching your videos and thank you. Can you tell me the minimum spacing for dragon fruit ? Have the white, yellow, red, purple and vietnamese giant white. Will plant these in raised beds ... about 50 cm wide and 2.25 meters long. Will make the bed from panels of aircrete and a support pole of same and will use your PT board trellis design. I have about 8 to 10 plants and need to get an estimate of how many raised beds I will need for 50 footings in this kind of growing container. Would look like a concrete cattle water trough ... but mine won't have a concrete floor ... just 20 cm of course sand at the bottom for drainage.
Hi Kenneth, thanks for watching and supporting my channel. Minimum spacing for each dragon fruit would be 3-4 feet in between each one. They grow very big and can stretch their branches. This space will keep it easy for you to maintain and harvest your dragon fruits. I use 20 gallon pots per DF plant this helps me keep them organize and I can move them when needed.
@@GraftingDragonFruit I will try the aircrete to make raised beds ... 8' x 3' x 2' ... hope to do well with this set up. Will let you know how it works out
when you graft do you graft the same variety or can you graft say a yellow dragon fruit shoot onto a pink root stock. i have just started growing dragon fruits and so experimenting. By the way I am from the Maldive Islands.
Hi Aminath Saeed, Yes you can definitely graft with different varieties and match them together. It doesn’t have to be the same variety to do a graft. They all come from the same cactus family so genetics are capable. You can use a white rootstock, pink rootscock, red rootstock, and Graft a yellow scion onto any of those and they will all work. Hope I answered your question!
